Abstract

This study aims to: (i) assess the understanding of career planning among the 10th-grade students at MAN Sorong; (ii) create a practical, valid, and engaging career guidance module aimed at improving their comprehension of career planning; and (iii) demonstrate that the utilization of this module can enhance the understanding of career planning among these students. Adopting the research and development framework established by Borg and Gall, this study employed scales, observations, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for data collection.  The results showed that: (i) the level of career planning understanding among 10th-grade students at MAN Sorong was low, emphasizing the necessity for a career guidance module as a counseling tool to enhance their understanding; (ii) the developed career guidance module was deemed valid, practical, and engaging, as affirmed by the utility, feasibility, and accuracy assessments conducted by experts and field practitioners; and (iii) implementing the career guidance module effectively enhances the understanding of career planning among 10th-grade students at MAN Sorong. Additionally, the module’s acceptability is confirmed through a limited group test involving 10 students who are ready to utilize it in school to improve their grasp of career planning.

Abstract

This study aims to determine work readiness in terms of life goals owned by final year students in Madiun. This research is a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of this study were final year students studying at universities in Madiun City. Sampling using purposive sampling technique with a total of 172 final year students. The scales used were the work readiness scale and the life purpose scale, distributed online via google form. Correlation analysis using spearman's rho. The results of the spearman's rho correlation coefficient in this study showed insignificant results with sig (2-tailed) 0.647> 0.05 with a correlation score of 0.035. It means that the relationship between work readiness and life goals is very weak or insignificant. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there is no relationship between work readiness and the life goals of final year students in Madiun. The recommendation of this study is to explore other variables that affect work readiness, such as self-efficacy and optimism with similar subject characteristics

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a valid and reliable Student Grit Scale and to analyze the feasibility of a measurement instrument using the Rasch Model. This study employed a quantitative research method with a descriptive approach and involved 75 junior high school students. The grit scale developed by Datu, called the Triarchic Model of Grit (TMG), was used in this study. The results of the reliability test showed that Cronbach's Alpha was greater than 0.60 (), indicating that the measurement instrument was reliable. The unidimensional analysis showed that the instrument was feasible because the variance observed in the contrast of 1 to 5 residues contained only values above 15%. Thus, the entire construct of the grit has measured one appropriate variable. This study provides recommendations for the development of a grit measurement instrument to investigate he balance between the topics contained in the questions and the level of ability of students as respondents.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of needs, produce a prototype, examine the validity, reliability, and practicality of an Android-based SDQ application as an instrument to detect students’ psychological and behavioral problems. This is an R&D study utilizing the Borg and Gall development model. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis, while quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of the study showed that: 1) the development of an Android-based SDQ application to detect students’ psychological and behavioral problems is strongly needed by both school counselors and students; 2) the Android-based SDQ application prototype features menu items, school counselor profile, student profile, information on the objectives and advantages of SDQ, filling out SDQ, SDQ results, an application guidebook, SDQ statistical results, and an application management administrator; and 3) the Android-based SDQ application developed has been found to have high levels of validity, reliability, and practicality. Therefore, the Android-based SDQ application is considered a valid and reliable tool to detect students’ psychological and behavioral problems.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the main factors in the selection of majors in college. There were 1283 participants consisting of first, second, and third year students from various universities in Indonesia, both public and private. The research approach was non-experimental quantitative using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that almost 30% of students felt that they chose the wrong major. Those who felt they chose the wrong major had lower knowledge domain (μ = 42.67; t = 20.376, p < 0.05) and help-seeking behavior (μ = 47.89; t = 5.336, p < 0.05) compared to those who felt they chose the right major. Based on the type of university, 274 students from public universities (72.29%) and 105 students from private universities (27.71%). The conclusion was that students who felt they had the wrong major did not have adequate Self Knowledge and Occupational Knowledge. Their need to seek help has not been accompanied by sufficient knowledge about themselves and their intended careers, hence students need to be proactive in gaining knowledge from credible sources. This study mapped the factors that influenced major selection and thus guidance on major selection since high school should be considered.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the mindset of adolescents who marry early and the impacts of early marriages. This is a qualitative descriptive study with a case study design, allowing in-depth exploration of a specific case. Following data collection through interviews, observations, and documentation, data analysis was conducted to understand the context and the characteristics of the case. The research informants were nine people from three adolescent couples who married early. The location and informants in this research were identified using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study showed that: adolescent mindset is divided into three processes, namely encoding, storage, and retrieval.  This mindset is shaped by the fulfilling of economic and familial needs, as the majority of adolescents originate from farming families with limited educational backgrounds. The informants underwent the three processes before and after getting married early. The impacts of early marriage include the loss of opportunities for further education, leading to a reduced likelihood of obtaining better jobs and finding the right partner. However, early marriage is negatively perceived by society as it has more negative than positive outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the career well-being of school counselors in Indonesia. This study was conducted quantitatively using a quantitative descriptive analysis. The population of this study was all school counselors in Indonesia. The selection of population was made by the researchers because there is no standard Career well-being Scale in the Indonesian context. The sample consisted of 1,000 school counselors throughout Indonesia, selected using simple random sampling technique. The data was collected using the Career Well-Being Scale based on Coetzee’s theory. The study began with the development of the Career Well-Being Scale, followed by the distribution of the scale through Google Form, data collection, and data analysis. Data analysis was performed using percentage statistical formula. The results showed that the difference in career well-being of school counselors had a Sig value of 0.00. Obtaining a Sig value < 0.05 indicates that there is a significant difference in the career well-being of school counselors with four different educational qualifications. Educational qualifications influence the career well-being of Indonesian school counselors. School counselors with a master’s degree and a PPG certification have higher career well-being than school counselors with a bachelor’s degree

Abstract

This research aims to show that narrative counseling can increase adolescents' self-esteem. The research approach used is mixed-method with an embedded design. The instrument is based on the Coopersmith Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI) which measures four aspects of self-esteem. The research subjects in this study were 3 high school adolescents in class XI. The results of the research showed that there was a change in self-esteem in the three teenagers, which was indicated by receiving sufficient recognition and feeling worthy, which means that narrative counseling can increase the self-esteem of adolescents who experience self-harm. However, of the three adolescents, one adolescent still committed self-harm with infrequent frequency even though his self-esteem was already in the medium category. This suggests that there are other variables that influence someone to do self-harm, such as self-concept. Apart from that, the factors influencing a person's self-esteem are different. Further analysis is needed regarding these factors.
