Abstract

Knowledge about gender should focus more on various circles. In this study, it aims to describe the rational form of equality of gander in the novel Aku Lupa Bahwa Aku Perempuan by Ihsan Abdul Quddus. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method by analyzing the novel. Data were obtained from various sources, including a related novel titled Aku Lupa Bahwa Aku Perempuan by Ihsan Abdul Quddus. The results of this study show that of all the existing gender equality, the most appropriate equality is to know the characteristics of each gender itself. Various roles in life are already supposed to be studied and applied in life, in accordance with the social constructions taking place and pay attention to the social, political, economic, cultural and other spheres. However, in reality, there are many cases of gender equality that are still the same as in the novel. There is no awareness of their respective roles, especially in terms of households.

Abstract

In the current era, leadership is no longer held by men only, but women also have the same rights and ability to lead. This has been proven by one of the nation's idol figures, especially for women in Indonesia itself, namely RA Kartini. RA Kartini as a leader as well as a role model for women at that time proved to the world that women were able to realize the ideals of the nation through education. She really understands the characteristics of women that can support leadership effectiveness. In this article, there are five discussions about the leadership process, leadership type, characteristics, and vision of leadership applied by RA Kartini to fight for the education rights of Indonesian women, especially in Java as seen in the leadership theory put forward by Burt Nanus. This research is a type of library research with a qualitative approach. This research data collection technique uses documentation techniques that have the aim of explaining and providing related information. Abstract

Substantial research has demonstrated that the police are critical agents in dealing with the problem of DV and reducing its overall prevalence. The passage of the DV laws in Ghana and Nigeria made the police the primary agency to respond to DV: however, there is limited research on how police handle domestic violence in the two countries. This study, therefore, critically interrogated police intervention strategies in handling DV and their effectiveness in Ghana and Nigeria. In-depth interviews were conducted with 100 female victims of DV who have utilized police services and 30 police officers who handle DV cases. In addition, ethnographic observations were made in the police stations. The study found that arrest and detention, prosecution at the law court and the use of caution letters are the major conventional strategies used by the Ghana and Nigeria police to handle domestic violence. The two police institutions also adopted culturally sensitive approaches such as mediation, invitation letters and the use of minor punishment to deter offenders and potential offenders. There were a few variations in how the two police institutions handled domestic violence. The Ghana police utilized invisible arrest to preserve family relationships while the Nigeria police adopted naming and shaming of perpetrators to deter the public. The effectiveness of the interventions was mixed, depending on cultural acceptability, victims’ needs and impact on perpetrators. Police interventions emphasized punishments, and this often brought swift changes in offenders’ behavior but the changes were not sustainable.

Abstract

The demand for the separation of Darjeeling from Bengal goes back to 1907. The demand in the colonial period was not consistent and was limited to the submission of memorandums. During the colonial period, politics was elitist and the common people and women were not part of it. Even after the independence of India, women in Darjeeling did not take part in the movement for the creation of Gorkhaland. Their political participation was limited. It was only in the 1980s when the movement gained momentum that women started to participate. Since then women have been able to use their agency to empower themselves and create their own collective identity and participate in the movement. Post the formation of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and the emergence of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha women have created a political identity for themselves in the male-dominated political realm. Their shared experiences and beliefs have assisted them in breaking traditional barriers to play a new role of political subjects and transform society by being the agents of change in history.
