Abstract

Emotional and behavioral problems are likely to emerge in early adolescents as they are considered emotionally immature and highly susceptible to changes in their social environment. This study aims to examine the role of self-control and school connectedness in adolescent emotional and behavioral problems. The research hypothesis is that self-control and connectedness to school together play a role in adolescents' emotional and behavioral problems. Research uses a quantitative method with a purposive sampling technique, involving 171 respondents aged 12-14 years who are at the junior high school level. Measurements were carried out using three scales: The Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.760, the self-control scale with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.739, and the Student Connectedness Questionnaire (SCQ) with a Cronbach's Alpha value of 0.891. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that self-control and school connectedness contribute to emotional and behavioral problems with an effective contribution of 23.8%, while 76.2% are other factors that were not studied.

Abstract

Research has shown that most inmates experience stress while incarcerated. If managed appropriately, distress can foster stress-related growth (SRG), a process of positive personal development. This study explores SRG among prisoner escorts (tamping)—well-behaved inmates who are not recidivists, demonstrate self-maturity during correctional processes, and are selected by officers to assist in coaching other inmates. Research on SRG in prisons is crucial as growth enhances self-functioning and adaptation. This study involved three informants, selected through purposive sampling, with criteria of being early adults and serving as tamping for a minimum one year. Data were collected through a preliminary questionnaire, followed by semi-structured interviews. A descriptive phenomenological approach and thematic analysis techniques were employed to examine their experiences and the formation process of SRG. The study identified a self-growth process, internal factors influencing self-growth (personal character and self-motivation to change), and external factors providing support (friends, family, and prison officers). Forms of self-growth include increased self-awareness, resilience, independence, compassion, new perspectives on oneself and others, greater respect for family, strengthened spiritual connection, and changes in life meaning and orientation. Additionally, a novel finding in this study is that prisoner escorts also experience an increase in work proficiency, which further enhances their rehabilitation process. The study suggests expanding informant criteria, conducting longitudinal research, and exploring related variables such as gratitude, self-forgiveness, and self-compassion. Further studies should also examine related issues such as choice, commitment, and social support, which may influence SRG outcomes in prison settings.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the adjustment of single-child students who migrate. The characteristics of an only child raises the assumption that single-child students experience greater challenges and are required to make greater efforts when they have to live in a new environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with thematic analysis to obtain descriptive results. This study involved three students who were only children who migrated to the Special Region of Yogyakarta and were in their first and second years of college. The researcher used semi-structured interviews to collect information, with core questions that explored the informan's experiences in making adjustment efforts as students who migrated. This study found six themes of adjustment of single-child students who migrated, namely 1) developing social skills, 2) carrying out self-regulation, 3) increasing involvement in campus activities, 4) developing learning skills, 5) exploring the environment, and 6) contributing to the surrounding community. The most dominant themes were developing social skills and showing involvement in campus activities. The three informants made great efforts related to these themes. There are a number of factors that influence the informants' adjustment efforts, which can be classified into internal and external factors. Internal factors found include motivation to achieve goals, the need to establish relationships, self-reflection skills, consumption behavior, self-discipline, and social conformity. External factors found include campus climate, parental care, level of demands from the surrounding community, demands of lectures, parental care and culture differences. The limitation of this study is the selection of respondents who come from one college and do not specify the minimum distance of the original residence from the location of the migration. In the discussion section, the results of this study are compared with the adjustment of migrant students in general and the comparison between the three respondents related to the context of their respective backgrounds.

Abstract

Employment provides economic and psychological benefits for mothers but also presents significant challenges that can impact psychological well-being. This study aims to explore the effects of mindful parenting and stress on the psychological well-being of working mothers. This research tests the hypothesis that mindful parenting can improve psychological well-being and that stress can decrease it, with mindful parenting serving as a moderator in this relationship. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 87 working mothers via an online questionnaire. Analysis results show that mindful parenting has a significant positive effect on psychological well-being (p 0.001), while stress has a significant negative effect (p = 0.047). However, the interaction between stress and mindful parenting was not significant (p = 0.995). These findings suggest that mindful parenting plays an important role in enhancing psychological well-being, although it may not moderate the impact of stress. The study contributes to the literature by highlighting the role of parenting mindfulness as a positive factor in working mothers’ mental health. Future research using longitudinal or experimental designs is recommended to assess causal relationships and to explore other protective factors such as resilience and social support that may interact with stress and parenting.

Abstract

Generation Y and Z are in the spotlight. One of the reasons is their tendency towards entitlement, namely expecting their personal needs to be prioritized without paying attention to and caring about the needs of others, not respecting ethics and social norms, and forgetting responsibility as part of society. However it could be the case that this entitlement attitude occurs because of a lack of proper understanding between awareness of the rights of responsible individuals and attitudes that reflect entitlement. This entitlement attitude could have its roots in liberalism and postmodernism, and was affected by technological developments, including social media. In an increasingly fluid world condition, which means there is no longer a single truth, individuals began to emphasize awareness of individual rights, appreciate the freedom to express their identity, and the value of individualism increased, as did the development of popular culture. Another factor that may be less realized so far is the role of overly involved parenting which actually makes children only understand one perspective, that they are individuals who have the right to be prioritized. The feeling of being disadvantaged or feeling wronged can serve as the background for why someone becomes entitled. This collective phenomenon needs attention, including the agents or parties and factors that are involved, and what critical and constructive responses can be given, so that we become more aware and responsible citizens in the larger society.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge sharing and innovative work behavior among teachers implementing Kurikulum Merdeka. The participants were 134 teachers implementing Kurikulum Merdeka, coming from kindergarten/early childhood education, elementary, junior high, and senior high/vocational schools. The hypothesis is that there is a positive relationship between knowledge sharing and innovative work behavior among teachers implementing Kurikulum Merdeka. This study used a quantitative method. The scales used in this study were modified from the Knowledge Sharing Scale by Van Den Hooff and De Ridder (10 items, α = 0.947) and the Innovative Work Behavior Scale by Onne Janssen (9 items, α = 0.935). The study used Spearman's Rho test because the data was not normally distributed. The results show that the hypothesis is accepted, indicating a significant and positive relationship with a moderate strength between knowledge sharing and innovative work behavior among teachers implementing Kurikulum Merdeka (p .001, rs = 0.532). This means that the higher the level of knowledge sharing, the higher the innovative work behavior of the teachers. Conversely, the lower the level of knowledge sharing, the lower the innovative work behavior.
