Jurnal Gramatika: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia (2442-8485) & (2460-6316), well-known as GRAMATIKA, is an international forum for original research focused on identities as local contexts, like an identity in linguistics, identity in literature, and identity in language education in global and local contexts, especially in Indonesia. These may include but are not limited to various fields, such as we are interested in interdisciplinary studies examining how issues of linguistics, literature, and education in language influence individual and community identities. In order to publish in GRAMATIKA, a study must have an overview of previous research or theoretical concepts that are packaged to justify the novelty/uniqueness of this study and central focus on local, foreign, minority, heritage, or indigenous languages (or non-standard dialects) and their intersection with either identity and/or education in language, linguistics and literature. We welcome a variety of topics, theoretical orientations, and methodological approaches (both qualitative and quantitative). Abstract

Humans often use profanity as verbal aggression to express displeasure towards others or a particular situation. Using animal names and gender-related terms with regional connotations is common in Indonesian society. Generation Z, who predominantly engage in social media, have learned to use words like animal names or genders as tools to express their emotions, both aggressively and non-aggressively, which impact on interpersonal communication. This research aims to understand the semantic changes of words created by Generation Z. This will be achieved by applying four principles of semantic change: amelioration, pejoration, narrowing, and broadening. This research will explore the use of expletives in the style of Generation Z in their daily lives and the purpose behind their usage. The study adopts a qualitative approach, with eight respondents meeting the criteria of being part of Generation Z, frequently using expletives, and actively participating in social media. The data obtained will be analyzed using a thematic approach.  The results of this study indicate that the expletives used by Generation Z have deviated from standard literal language. Despite undergoing semantic changes, the words coined by Generation Z still constitute a part of verbal aggression. The inability to contextualize expletives within normative, psychological, and sociological perspectives renders these words commonplace and acceptable.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of word trends and patterns associated with the "Ibu Kota Negara" (IKN) project, which involves relocating the capital city in Indonesia. The study examines these linguistic trends within the context of social media, specifically on Twitter, and a local media outlet, Tribun Kaltim. This type of research is descriptive qualitative using corpus linguistics methods. The research data is in the form of words, phrases and sentences originating from tweets with the hashtags #IbuKota Negara, #IKNNusantara, and #PindahIbuKota, as well as 100 selected news articles from Tribun Kaltim. The analysis was carried out with the help of corpus processing tools and focused on word list analysis, collocation, concordance checking, and exploration of plot features. The findings reveal noteworthy similarities in word trends and patterns across both datasets, indicating a certain degree of alignment between Indonesian conversations on Twitter and the reporting of news media. However, it is worth noting that Twitter conversations tend to exhibit a more dynamic and rapidly evolving nature compared to traditional news media reports. This study sheds light on the interconnectedness between social media discourse and traditional journalism in the context of the IKN project, offering valuable insights into public discourse dynamics in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the representation of cultural products in English language learning materials as depicted in narrative texts for Indonesian high school students. To this end, the design of this study employed qualitative content analysis to know how cultural products are represented in narrative texts for Indonesian high school students. Initially, the narrative texts were collected from the English learning materials which were compiled and used in the teaching and learning process by the English teachers. The data of this study was gathered through document review and then coded within the analysis process. The findings of this study revealed that cultural products as depicted in those narrative texts represent the category of places, followed by artifacts and institutions. However, the category of art form has not been identified yet. These findings indicate that the cultural products have not been widely represented in the learning materials. In addition, the teacher-selected narrative texts still only showed Indonesian local cultures while their students needed to know other target cultures from around the world. This study suggests that teachers should include more cultural learning in their learning materials to build student’s knowledge and awareness of culture.

Abstract

This article explores the transformation of the text Salawat Dulang Alam and Qodratullah music into a new artwork form that embodies the narrative form of Islamic identity in West Sumatra. The research involved a collaborative work of transformation by practitioners of Salawat Dulang. The Festival Musica Sacral committee commissioned the creation of this musical artwork, and the artists created new performances with new texts following the theme requested by the committee. The production was done by adopting contemporary songs and inserting theatrical elements that collaborated with traditional Salawat Dulang song texts, highlighting the role of language as identity. The research resulted in a new form of Salawat Dulang music that is more communicative and touches the heartstrings. Incorporating contemporary text songs and theatrical elements created a fresh perspective on Salawat Dulang music, embodying Islamic identity's narrative form in West Sumatra. The study suggests that transforming traditional art forms into contemporary ones can create a new way of looking at the art form, leading to increased communication and emotional connection with the audience. It is also suggested that further research should be carried out to explore the possibilities of transforming other traditional art forms similarly, recognizing the role of language as a vital component of identity.

Abstract

The study starts by acknowledging the challenge of students' restricted capacity to properly grasp scientific essays. The acquisition of knowledge pertaining to the rules of composing scientific essays, alongside a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of bahasa course, has significant importance for students. The present investigation adopts a quantitative methodology and utilizes experimental techniques. The participants of this study were students who were currently enrolled in the engineering study program at UMRAH during the initial semester of the academic year 2018-2019. The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive description of the influence exerted by the guided discovery learning strategy, in conjunction with character education and competition, on the enhancement of students' proficiency in scientific essay writing. Various methodologies, including statistical tests and survey questionnaires, are frequently employed in data analysis techniques that are prevalent in research investigations. Throughout the lecturer's presentation of educational material, students exhibit passion and courtesy in their reciprocal replies, so reflecting their familiarity with the instructional methodology being discussed. This study use character education as a means of developing students' cognitive and behavioral qualities, hence nurturing a mentality oriented towards competition. The results of the study indicate that the integration of the discovery learning method with character education and competition had a noteworthy influence on students' competence in scientific essay composition. The obtained value of 5.739, which surpasses the crucial value of 1.688 at a significance level of 0.05 and with 36 degrees of freedom (df), provides evidence in favor of this assertion. Given that the calculated t-value exceeds the crucial t-value, it is appropriate to accept the null hypothesis (H0). The findings of this study carry substantial significance for the progress of educational science, perhaps yielding benefits for the discipline. Moreover, this study might serve as a valuable resource for informing the adoption and integration of various pedagogical approaches

Abstract

Abstract

Extreme weather phenomena have become more frequent, and the natural environment has suffered due to rampant deforestation, logging, and unchecked forest clearance. These issues have captured global attention. The primary objective of this research is to underscore the necessity for the formulation of a naturalistic ecolinguistic learning paradigm. This study is rooted in ecolinguistic theory, specifically focusing on naturalistic ecolinguistics and the creation of educational materials for higher education institutions. The research methodology employed in this investigation is characterized as descriptive quantitative research, incorporating basic statistical techniques. The target population comprises students enrolled in the language education master's program, particularly those who have participated in courses on ecolinguistics, particularly the naturalistic branch. Through purposive selection, a sample size of 30 respondents, consisting of current students and alumni from Sanata Dharma University's Master of Language Education program, who have undergone training in naturalistic ecolinguistics, was determined. Participants were presented with a series of 20 statements, rated on a Likert scale, soliciting their agreement or disagreement. The findings reveal an overwhelming consensus among respondents, with approximately 90% expressing support for the development of a naturalistic ecolinguistic learning model. The prevailing sentiment is that this initiative is of utmost importance, aligning with the university's commitment to the green ecology program
