Abstract

The digital transformation and paradigm shifts in 21st-century education demand a reinterpretation of the concept of literacy from an Islamic perspective. Surah Al-‘Alaq, as the first revealed chapter, contains fundamental messages related to the activities of reading, thinking, and learning, which carry both spiritual and epistemological values. This study aims to analyze the coherence (munasabah) among the verses in Surah Al-‘Alaq verses 1–5 and to explore their relevance to the concept of modern literacy. The method employed is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a qualitative descriptive approach, involving thematic analysis of 25 sources—consisting of scholarly journals and classical as well as contemporary tafsir—published in the last five years. The findings show that the structure of verses in Surah Al-‘Alaq forms an integrative Qur’anic literacy framework, encompassing spiritual dimensions (reading in the name of God), existential dimensions (awareness of creation), epistemological dimensions (the use of the pen as a symbol of civilization), and transformational dimensions (the process of continuous learning). These values are strongly relevant to modern literacy, such as digital, critical, and ethical literacy. Surah Al-‘Alaq can serve as a foundation for developing an Islamic literacy paradigm that meets contemporary challenges. The implication is that Islamic education needs to design a literacy curriculum that not only focuses on technical skills but also on shaping the spiritual, moral, and intellectual character of learners.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of digital media has significantly transformed religious communication, including the dissemination of Qur’anic interpretation across Southeast Asia. Online tafsir platforms have emerged as influential mediums through which Islamic teachings are articulated, interpreted, and engaged with by diverse audiences in the digital age. This study aims to examine how these platforms contribute to contemporary Qur'anic da'wah, particularly in terms of discursive construction, interpretive authority, and audience interaction, and a qualitative approach with digital discourse analysis combined with virtual ethnography. Employing a literature-based qualitative approach grounded in Critical Discourse Analysis, the research systematically reviewed 30 peer-reviewed publications focused on digital tafsir content within the Southeast Asian context. The findings reveal that online tafsir platforms not only increase accessibility to Qur’anic knowledge but also reshape the rhetorical and ideological dimensions of religious interpretation through interactive media, localized narratives, and evolving discourse strategies. These platforms increasingly mediate between traditional theological norms and contemporary sociocultural realities, often facilitating pluralistic and contextualized understandings of scripture. The study contributes theoretically by integrating Islamic studies with discourse analysis, offering a novel analytical framework to interrogate religious communication in digital environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the narrative of radicalism develops and influences social harmony among the Madurese ethnic community in Probolinggo Regency, using a symbolic interactionism perspective. The research is based on the assumption that a society with a majority Madurese ethnic population has strong social and cultural ties, but also faces the potential for radicalization due to economic injustice and the influence of conservative ideology. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, involving in-depth interviews, direct observation, and document analysis as data collection techniques. The findings show that radicalism in Madurese society is mostly spread through social interactions within families and communities, with an important role for religious authority figures, such as kyai. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of social interaction and symbols in shaping the narrative of radicalism, as well as providing insights for efforts to prevent radicalization by strengthening social harmony at the community level.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in schools is often trapped in a dogmatic and textual approach, which is less able to accommodate the social and intellectual dynamics of students. This study aims to explore efforts to recontextualize PAI materials by adapting religious teachings to the context of students' social, cultural, and intellectual lives, in order to improve their understanding, engagement, and critical thinking skills. The method used in this study is a qualitative case study approach, conducted in a junior high school in Probolinggo Regency, involving in-depth interviews, observation, and data analysis. The research findings indicate that the recontextualization of PAI materials successfully created a more inclusive and reflective learning climate, increased student enthusiasm, and encouraged them to connect religious teachings with contemporary social issues. This study contributes to the development of religious education theory, by offering a new approach to PAI learning that is more applicable and relevant. The practical implication is the importance of developing more contextual and interactive teaching methods.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of educational background and learning interest on students' academic achievement in higher education. Student interest is a strong predictor of academic success, while educational background contributes to academic readiness, although their impact varies across contexts. However, the combined effects of these factors remain underexplored, particularly in non-Western educational settings. Using a quantitative correlational design, this study collected data through questionnaires and conducted statistical analyses using Pearson correlation and multiple regression. The study sample consisted of students enrolled in the Intensive Arabic Language Program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The findings reveal a moderate correlation between learning interest, educational background, and academic performance, with an overall R-value of 0.541. Regression results show that learning interest significantly predicts academic achievement (β = 0.541, p < .001), indicating that higher interest strongly enhances performance. Conversely, educational background demonstrates no significant effect (p = .821), suggesting limited predictive value in this context. The model explains 27.6% of the variance, indicating that other factors also shape student outcomes. This study contributes to understanding how motivational and contextual variables interact in language learning and recommends that educators prioritize strategies that strengthen student engagement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of prophetic management in human resource development (HRD) in Islamic community organizations (ormas) in Indonesia. Prophetic management, which is based on prophetic values such as humanization (amar ma'ruf), liberation (nahi munkar), and transcendence (tu'minuna billah), becomes a relevant ethical and strategic framework in building quality HR with integrity, professionalism, and oriented towards the welfare of the community. This research falls into the library research category, focusing on document and literature studies related to the main research themes. Primary sources include academic journals, scientific books, and research reports that directly examine human resource development for Islamic da'wah, prophetic management, and the internal dynamics of Islamic political parties in Indonesia. The results show that all three have adopted the principles of prophetic management in various forms, such as internalization of spiritual values, strengthening cadre character, a tiered development system, and capacity building through political and Islamic education. However, there are significant variations in its implementation, where PKS tends to be systematic and structured, PPP emphasizes a cultural approach and Islamic boarding school traditions, while PBB focuses on strengthening legalistic and ideological Islamic insights.

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to map the academic development and thematic shifts in research on Hizb ut-Tahrir Indonesia (HTI) before and after its official dissolution (2010-2023). Previous studies highlight HTI’s evolution as a transnational Islamic movement and the growing scholarly attention following the Indonesian government’s 2017 ban. Despite its termination, HTI remains central in academic debates on Islamic ideology and socio-political dynamics. This study employs a quantitative bibliometric method using Dimensions data to examine structural patterns in HTI research. VOSviewer is used to visualize co-authorship networks, keyword clusters, and institutional contributions. The findings reveal 402 publications, with a significant rise in output after HTI’s dissolution. Ideological contestation, da'wah strategies, and political activism dominate the thematic landscape. Indonesia remains the primary hub of HTI-related scholarship, with significant contributions from the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and PTIQ Institute Jakarta. Key thematic clusters include Islamic movements, political Islam, the caliphate discourse, constitutional debates, and liberal Islamic networks. These findings demonstrate HTI’s continuing relevance in discussions on Islamic identity and social movements in Indonesia. This study maps HTI’s scholarly trajectory and recommends expanding comparative analyses of post-ban transformations of transnational Islamic movements.Adam, Y. F. (2022). Abstract

This study aims to analyse the concept of economic resilience of Muslim families from an Islamic perspective by emphasising the integration of sharia maqashid principles and the collaborative role of husband and wife in facing modern economic challenges, especially in the era of digital transformation. The study also aims to identify relevant family economic strategies based on spiritual values and Islamic ethics to strengthen family well-being and stability. The research method is a qualitative, descriptive approach, based on an in-depth literature review of journals, books, and regulations related to family law and sharia economics. The results of the study show that the family's economic resilience depends not only on financial income but also on the strength of faith, effective communication, transparent financial management, and commitment to the principles of mashlahah, justice (adl), and balance (tawazun). Economic collaboration between husband and wife has proven to be a strategic factor in strengthening household stability. The implications of this research are theoretical and practical: enriching the literature on family resilience in a sharia perspective and providing recommendations for policy development, sharia financial education, and family development to create a family of sakinah, mawaddah, and rahmah.

Abstract

Religious criticism is an integral part of a multicultural society, yet it can become sensitive amid debates over freedom of expression and religious respect. Recent cases, such as online disputes between preachers and the rise of ex-Muslim voices, demonstrate how religious criticism can strengthen dialogue or deepen divisions. This study aims to distinguish two contrasting forms of religious criticism in the contemporary public sphere: destructive criticism, which reinforces polarization and hostility, and dialogic criticism, which encourages transformation of understanding and increases tolerance between religious communities. The study adopts Mikael Stenmark’s framework of forms of religious criticism. It examines two influential cases: the Apostate Prophet, whose online content often shapes public perception through secular, confrontational criticism of Islam, and Husein Ja’far Al Hadar, a preacher whose inclusive and dialogic approach promotes tolerance. The study uses qualitative digital ethnography and discourse analysis to examine religious criticism in online media. The two contrasting figures were deliberately selected based on their distinct digital influence and communication styles. Data from YouTube dialogues and podcasts are analysed to identify patterns of constructive and destructive criticism. The findings suggest that dialogical criticism, which encourages understanding and tolerance, has greater potential to maintain interfaith harmony in Indonesia’s pluralistic society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of BMT NU service performance to increase customer loyalty from a Sharia perspective, focusing on factors such as customer satisfaction, emotional and spiritual support, and compliance with Sharia principles. The research method involved in-depth interviews with 30 customers and 10 BMT managers, as well as observations of ongoing service interactions. The results showed that 85% of customers were satisfied with the quality of service provided, and 78% of them stated that their positive experiences contributed to their loyalty to BMT. The implementation of responsive and ethical services, as well as attention to customer needs, resulted in positive interactions that increased customer trust and satisfaction. The findings also showed that emotional and spiritual support played an important role in strengthening the relationship between BMT and customers, with 70% of respondents reporting that such support made them feel more connected. Despite challenges in maintaining consistent service performance, this study concluded that BMT NU can increase customer loyalty by strengthening service performance that focuses on quality, transparency, and fairness.
