Abstract

Globalization has caused a cultural shift among the younger generation that has the potential to reduce the existence of local wisdom culture. Schools can make efforts to revitalize local wisdom culture through culture-based extracurricular activities so that cultural preservation is guaranteed. The objectives of this study are (1) to describe the process of implementing culture-based extracurricular activities; (2) to explain the components of the Pancasila student profile contained in the extracurricular activities of traditional dance, karawitan, and pencak silat; (3) to explain the inhibiting factors. This research was conducted at Hang Tuah 9 Elementary School in Candi Sidoarjo using qualitative methods and a case study approach. The research subjects included the principal, extracurricular coaches, and students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation which were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model and verified using triangulation techniques. The results showed that there were three stages of implementation, namely planning, implementation, and evaluation.  This study also found that the revitalization of local wisdom culture through extracurricular traditional dance, karawitan, and pencak silat can form the profile of students who have the spirit of Pancasila. The research findings show that the activities not only increase students' appreciation of their cultural heritage, but also develop important character values such as obedience, responsibility, discipline, confidence, criticality, and accountability. However, the creative dimension was not found in this activity because learning is centered on the trainer's direction. The creative dimension is very important to develop the ability to create, innovate, and contribute in adapting or developing cultural values. In practice, this activity faces several obstacles such as time constraints, differences in student abilities, lack of supporting facilities, and parental concerns about pencak silat activities.

Abstract

Mathematics is one of the subjects that is considered difficult and less attractive, which has an impact on students' low understanding of concepts. One of the obstacles in learning is the limitation of technology, especially the unavailability of adequate computer equipment in the classroom. This condition hinders the application of interactive learning media that can increase student interest and understanding. This study aims to analyze the effect of gamification strategy using Kahoot technology on improving mathematics understanding of grade 3 elementary school students. The method used was a quasi-experiment with a quantitative approach, comparing two classes: an experimental group using Kahoot and a control group using conventional learning methods. The research was conducted in grade 3 of MI Muhammadiyah Gonilan. Data analysis included normality test, Wilcoxon test, and N-gain test. The results showed the average post-test score of the control class was 74.73 and the experimental class was 82.10. The findings show that gamification strategy using Kahoot has a positive and significant effect on improving students' math comprehension.

Abstract

Building children's readiness for learning during the transition from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to Elementary School (ES) will help children adapt to the new school environment and will influence their subsequent learning process. This study aims to (1) analyze children's learning readiness from a psychological perspective, and (2) to identify effective strategies to support their transition from early childhood education to elementary school. This qualitative research employed interviews and observations of three early childhood participants (ages 6-8) identified as having high (NA), medium (RA), and low (RD) learning readiness based on indirect questionnaires from 19 first-grade students. The secondary data were obtained from two classroom teachers and the school principal. This study utilized source triangulation (participants, parents, and teachers), technique triangulation (observation and interviews), and time triangulation. The findings indicate that the aspects of physical development and health, approaches to learning, cognition and general knowledge, language and early literacy, and social and emotional development vary among the three respondents. Effective strategies applied to respond to children's learning readiness is focusing on improving the quality of learning by aligning the concepts of early elementary school learning with those of ECE through enjoyable learning processes, instructional adjustments, and parental involvement in the ECE-ES transition. This study provides insights for parents, teachers, and educators in preparing children for the transition, emphasizing cognitive aspects, physical, and socio-emotional aspects. Additionally, recommendations are made for schools regarding the provision of enjoyable learning experiences for students, facilitate teaching at the right level, and ensuring students are well-prepared for subsequent stages of learning through parent involvement.

Abstract

Digital technology is one of the strongest driving forces in the modern economy, requiring the mastery of 21st-century skills. These skills can be developed through mathematics, as its learning process enhances students' strategic thinking. Mathematics should be taught from the elementary level to equip students with logical, analytical, systematic, critical thinking, and communication skills. Mathematical communication is especially important for elementary students to understand, express ideas, model problems, and find solutions. However, current evidence shows that students’ mathematical communication skills remain relatively low, partly due to the limited use of learning models and classroom activities designed to foster such abilities. One potential solution is the use of a problem-solving approach supported by VBA for Excel-based learning media. This combination can improve students’ mathematical understanding and enhance their 21st-century skills, particularly in mathematical communication. The use of VBA-based media provides students with visual and interactive tools to solve and communicate various mathematical problems. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the problem-solving approach and VBA for Excel media in improving elementary students’ mathematical communication skills. A quasi-experimental method was used, applying a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design in two classes at a public elementary school in Bandung, with sampling through Non-Probability Sampling techniques. The results showed that this approach effectively improved students’ mathematical communication skills. Moreover, the learning media helped optimize the learning process and received positive feedback from students.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the character of student cooperation through the implementation of Project-Based Learning on the topic of Indonesian cultural diversity in grade V of SDN 112 Palembang. The background of the research is based on the low cooperative skills of students as seen from the lack of active participation, communication, and responsibility in group activities. This research is a Class Action Research (PTK) which is carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. In the first cycle, most of the students have not shown optimal cooperation character. However, after improvements were made in cycle II with an emphasis on role sharing, intensive guidance, and the use of lighter media, there was a significant increase. The results of observations in the second cycle showed that 20 students (76.9%) were in the good cooperation category, 5 students (19.2%) in the medium category, and only 1 student (3.9%) in the low category. These results are in line with several previous studies that state that the Project-Based Learning approach is effective in fostering students' collaborative skills and character. Thus, project-based learning can be used as an alternative learning strategy to build the character of student cooperation holistically.
