Abstract

This study aims to formulate and evaluate a topical cream preparation based on areca nut seed (Areca catechu) and pineapple stump (Ananas comosus) extracts as a scar-removing agent. Areca nut seeds contain tannins and flavonoids, which act as antioxidants, while pineapple stumps contain bromelain, an enzyme with proteolytic and anti-inflammatory properties. These ingredients were selected for their ability to accelerate wound healing and stimulate the regeneration of damaged skin tissue. The cream formulation was prepared by incorporating areca nut seed and pineapple stump extracts into a cream base using a hot emulsification method. The resulting cream was then physically tested for homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, pH, and stability at room temperature and accelerated conditions over a 30-day period. Additionally, an in vivo test was conducted on male rats with incisions on the dorsal area to assess the cream’s effectiveness in accelerating wound healing and reducing scar formation. The findings indicate that the formulated cream has good physical stability, high homogeneity, suitable viscosity for topical use, optimal spreadability, and a skin-safe pH. The in vivo test showed that rats treated with the areca nut and pineapple stump cream experienced faster wound healing compared to the control group. Histopathological analysis revealed increased epithelial tissue regeneration and reduced scar tissue formation. Thus, the cream formulation from areca nut seeds and pineapple stump has the potential to be developed as an effective natural product for scar treatment. This product provides a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative to the synthetic chemical-based products commonly available on the market.

Abstract

Catechins very potential as active ingredients to be formulated in cosmetic preparations because catechins have antioxidant activity and effective as anti-aging. The effect and confortness of using catechins on the skin is enhanced through nanoemulsian serum formulation. Nanoemulsion are stable, transparent and has a very small droplet size usually in the range of 20-500 nm. This study aims to formulate a nanoemulsion preparation of the active compound catechin and evaluate its effect as anti-aging. Catechins were formulated in nanoemulsion serum preparations with various concentrations (1%, 2%, and 3%). Effectiveness testing was conducted for 21 consecutive days on 4 volunteers. The results showed that the use of catechin nanoemulsion serum formula 2 with a globule size of 46 nm from the composition of catechin 2%, lecithin 2.5%, olive oil 1%, and Tween 80 35% effectively enhanced skin conditions related to signs of aging such as wrinkles, dark spots, skin tone, and pores.

Abstract

Background: Based on data compiled by the Health Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia regarding pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) cases in Indonesia, a total of 1,017,290 cases were reported in 2018 (Riskesdas, 2018). The increase in tuberculosis cases is attributed to the low adherence to medication. Low medication adherence can affect the quality of life. It has been found that the quality of life of tuberculosis patients at the Puskesmas (community health center) in Tuban Regency is still low. Therefore, research is needed to examine medication adherence in order to identify the causes of the low quality of life among tuberculosis patients in the working areas of the Rengel and Plumpang Puskesmas in Tuban Regency. Objective: To determine the relationship between medication adherence and the quality of life of tuberculosis patients in Tuban Regency. Method: This study used a Cross-Sectional research design. The sampling technique employed was simple random sampling. A total of 94 respondents participated in this study. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires directly while adhering to health protocols. Results: The study results indicated that tuberculosis patients in Tuban Regency exhibited moderate self-care, with 30 patients (31.91%) reporting frequent self-care, and 38 patients (40.43%) reporting an average quality of life. The Spearman correlation test, conducted using SPSS 25 for Windows, showed a significance value of p = 0.000, indicating that the smaller the p-value, the more significant the results. Since ? < ? (0.000 < 0.05), and the correlation coefficient (r) was 0.671, which indicates a strong correlation. Conclusion: The quality of life of tuberculosis patients is not only influenced by medication adherence but also by other factors that affect the implementation of medication adherence.

Abstract

Speech and language development is a crucial aspect of early childhood growth, allowing children to communicate, express thoughts, and interact with their environment. Delays in speech can have significant impacts on a child's academic performance and social interactions. Speech delay refers to a condition in which a child's verbal abilities do not align with developmental milestones. Various internal and external factors contribute to this issue, including genetics, family interaction, and parental knowledge. This study aims to describe the level of maternal knowledge regarding speech and language development in children aged 0–3 years, specifically among mothers with 2-year-old children at Midwife Helen K. Br Tarigan’s practice. This descriptive study involved 30 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire and analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that most mothers (86.6%) had a low level of knowledge regarding speech and language development, indicating the need for increased health education and routine counseling by healthcare providers.
