Abstract

The utilization of social media in the digital era has become a primary key to the sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), especially in rural areas with limited market access. Nagurpane Village possesses diverse economic potential, ranging from palm oil derivative products to handicrafts; however, its management remains traditional and confined to local marketing. This community service activity aims to enhance the human resource capacity of MSMEs in Nagurpane Village through entrepreneurship training and social media-based marketing management. The methods employed in this activity include field surveys, material preparation, intensive training execution, and direct practical assistance. The results of this program indicate a significant increase in participants' understanding of the importance of branding and digital marketing techniques. Participants are now capable of operating business accounts on social media platforms, conducting independent product photography, and understanding competitive pricing strategies. Despite challenges such as time constraints and digital infrastructure limitations in rural areas, the high enthusiasm of the participants served as the main supporting factor for the program's success. The conclusion of this activity emphasizes that digital transformation through online marketing education can expand the market reach of Nagurpane Village's MSMEs, increase sales volume, and strengthen local economic competitiveness amidst dynamic global market competition.

Abstract

The community's need for practical and economical drinking water has increased the dependence on Refill Drinking Water Depots (DAMIU), especially in urban areas such as Jalan Perjuangan Medan. However, this increase in consumption is not always accompanied by adequate microbiological quality assurance in accordance with health standards. This community service activity aims to socialize the importance of marketing drinking water that is fit for consumption and educate entrepreneurs and the public about the risks of bacterial contamination. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a field survey design and laboratory tests. The service team took water samples from all depots on Jalan Perjuangan to be tested at the Medan Health Laboratory Center, focusing on Escherichia coli bacterial parameters based on Minister of Health Regulation No. 492 of 2010. In addition, socialization was carried out through the distribution of health brochures and direct interviews with traders and consumers. The laboratory test results showed significant findings, where 66.7% of the samples (2 out of 3 main samples) tested positive for E. coli bacteria, thus declared not meeting the health requirements for direct consumption. The main factors of contamination are suspected to come from low employee hygiene, poorly maintained equipment sanitation, and the expiration of ultraviolet lamp life. Through this activity, the community was educated to always boil refilled water before consumption as a preventive measure. The conclusion of this service emphasizes that entrepreneurs must prioritize product safety aspects in their marketing strategy, while routine supervision from health authorities is urgently needed to guarantee the quality of drinking water at the community level.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has transformed societal consumption patterns, particularly among adolescents who are highly active in online shopping transactions. However, this convenience is often accompanied by the widespread distribution of counterfeit goods of well-known marks, which infringe upon the exclusive rights of brand owners and mislead consumers. This community service activity aims to enhance the legal literacy of students at SMA Negeri 3 Medan regarding the protection of well-known marks in electronic transactions. The implementation method utilized legal education through interactive lectures, group discussions, and legal case studies conducted directly at SMA Negeri 3 Medan, involving 40 students as participants. Data analysis was performed using a descriptive qualitative approach to capture changes in students' understanding before and after the activity. The results of the service show that prior to the socialization, the majority of students did not understand the legal aspects of trademarks and considered purchasing counterfeit or "KW" goods as a common practice. Following the intervention, there was a significant increase in legal awareness, where students were able to identify the criteria for well-known marks based on Law Number 20 of 2016 and the principle of good faith in the ITE Law. The conclusion of this activity emphasizes that continuous legal education for the younger generation is highly effective in preventing intellectual property rights violations in the digital market. Collaboration between academics and educational institutions is essential to establish a strong legal culture in transactions during the era of economic globalization.

Abstract

The rapid development of financial technology (fintech) in Indonesia has brought serious challenges, specifically the proliferation of illegal investment and online lending schemes that cause public unrest. This community service activity aims to provide education and improve financial literacy for residents in Patumbak District, Deli Serdang Regency, to prevent material and non-material losses resulting from illegal financial practices. The primary issue identified at the partner location was a low understanding of the legality of financial institutions and a lack of awareness regarding personal data protection, which is frequently exploited by illegal debt collectors through intimidating actions. The method employed in this service is a descriptive qualitative approach involving socialization stages, interactive discussions, and practical assistance based on the "Legal and Logical" (2L) principle. The effectiveness of the activity was measured through pre-test and post-test evaluations conducted with 35 participants. The results of the service demonstrate a significant increase in knowledge, with the participants' average score rising from 43.90 in the pre-test to 61.50 in the post-test. This improvement reflects that the community has begun to understand the importance of verifying permits from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and maintaining the confidentiality of personal data. The success of this program was driven by the high enthusiasm of the participants and the full support of local village officials. In conclusion, direct and intensive education is effective in building the community's financial resilience at the district level against the threats of digital economic crimes.

Abstract

The household-scale food industry in Medan City has great potential but is often constrained by the low visual competitiveness of its products. The main problem faced is the use of conventional packaging which is minimal in information and unattractive, making it difficult to compete in the modern market. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of "Sate Pisang Keju" (Cheese Banana Satay) business actors through training in innovative packaging and label design. The implementation method used includes educational lectures on the strategic functions of packaging as well as participatory workshops (direct practice) starting from the design stage to precise labeling techniques. The results of the activity show a significant increase in the participants' competence in understanding the concepts of branding, brands, and packaging aesthetics. Visually, there was a transformation of the product from plain plastic mica packaging to packaging equipped with informative sticker labels with ergonomic positions. This change directly increases the perceived quality and selling value of the product in the eyes of consumers. The conclusion of this program confirms that simple but effective packaging technology intervention is able to change the image of local products to be more professional. The implication of this activity is the need to expand similar programs for other MSME actors in Medan City to accelerate creative economic growth based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the processed food sector is often hindered by low visual quality and conventional packaging systems. This community service activity aims to enhance the competitiveness of cassava chip MSMEs through packaging optimization and marketing strategies based on marketing research management. The method employed was action research, which included participatory observation, in-depth interviews with owners and employees, and distributing questionnaires to customers to map consumer perceptions. A SWOT analysis was used to formulate targeted business development strategies. The results indicated that the partner's primary strength lies in authentic taste, yet it suffers from weaknesses in packaging design and high oil residue. Through this program, business owners have gained technical knowledge regarding protective packaging materials and skills in designing attractive visual identities. The implications of this activity emphasize the importance of transitioning from conventional to modern packaging to increase market value and expand market share. It is recommended that continuous mentoring be provided on a larger scale to accelerate the digitalization of MSME marketing in Medan.

Abstract

Literacy and speaking skills in early childhood are the primary foundations for their cognitive and socio-emotional development. However, challenges in the field indicate a persistent need for more interactive and enjoyable learning methods to stimulate these abilities. This community service program aims to socialize the storytelling method using picture media for children at the Fadilah Rahma Foundation, covering the Pekan Labuhan and Panah Hijau areas. The implementation methods used in this activity include lecture techniques through creative fairytale narration titled "CICI Ingin Terbang" (CICI Wants to Fly), dialectical question-and-answer sessions to evaluate children's understanding, and demonstration workshops where children create their own original stories and illustrations. The results of the service show an increase in enthusiasm and active involvement of participants during the learning process. Based on observations, most children were able to grasp moral messages and new vocabulary through visual aids, although some participants still required guidance in building self-confidence during presentations. This activity proves that the integration of picture media in storytelling is effective in stimulating imagination and strengthening children's verbal articulation skills. The conclusion of this service emphasizes the importance of multisensory stimulation that involves the senses of sight and hearing synchronously. The main recommendation is the need for regular story-based literacy programs to shape a generation that is wise, creative, and literate from an early age.

Abstract

Land degradation and global climate change represent serious environmental challenges that require collaborative responses from various stakeholders. This community service program aims to mitigate the impacts of environmental damage through the concrete action of tree planting while providing comprehensive public education within the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara. The implementation method utilized a participatory approach involving 62 students from Politeknik Cendana, academic staff, local communities, and partners from national and international universities. The stages of the activity began with the identification of critical land, the selection of adaptive shade and productive tree species, followed by silvicultural technique workshops and a synchronized planting action. The results of this program led to the successful planting of 1,000 tree seedlings in areas experiencing land degradation, which is projected to increase green cover and improve the micro-climate within the campus environment. Beyond the physical impact, evaluations showed a significant increase in ecological awareness and practical environmental management skills among participants. The international synergy in this activity successfully broadened participants' perspectives on global responsibility for maintaining Earth's sustainability. The success of this program reinforces that the integration of field action and public education can create an effective and sustainable environmental conservation model. The implications of this activity emphasize the importance of using digital-based monitoring technology to ensure future tree survival rates. As a successful service model, this program is expected to be replicated in other regions by strengthening multilateral collaborations between academia, the private sector, and the government to achieve broader and more massive environmental impacts.
