Abstract

Educational transformation through the Kurikulum Merdeka demands the strengthening of student character, particularly in the "Gotong Royong" (mutual cooperation) dimension of the Pancasila Student Profile. This community service activity aims to enhance the awareness and collaboration skills of SMP Maitreyawira Deli Serdang students through team-building training based on the "Formula One" simulation. The participants included 120 ninth-grade students from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The implementation method involved providing material on "The Big Five" personality theory, self-assessment, and a Lego assembly simulation under strict time pressure. Data were collected through participatory observation and field notes, then analyzed qualitatively. The results indicated that although students theoretically understood their personality profiles, the implementation of teamwork under pressure still faced significant obstacles. Most groups failed to complete tasks on time due to communication barriers and low trust among members who were not previously acquainted. However, certain groups consistently excelled, driven by emotional proximity and effective situational leadership. The conclusion of this service is that the awareness of mutual cooperation requires repetitive and sustainable practice. The primary recommendation for the school is to conduct periodic collaborative simulations with rotating group members to train students' social flexibility in facing future challenges.

Abstract

The utilization of digital technology is a key factor in enhancing the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the global economic era. This community service research aims to empower MSME actors in Sumber Rejo Village, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra, through the optimization of digital marketing as a means of business communication. The partners consist of 26 MSMEs producing "keripik pisang gosong" (caramelized banana chips) and "emping" (melinjo crackers), who previously relied on conventional marketing methods. The implementation method utilized a participatory approach, including needs identification, technical training (content creation, social media management, and e-commerce registration), and intensive mentoring for 1.5 months. The results show a significant increase in digital literacy and technical skills among participants. A total of 18 MSMEs successfully expanded their market reach outside the region and reported a 15-30% increase in sales. Despite facing challenges such as limited internet access and technological adaptation issues among older participants, the program successfully laid the foundation for digital transformation in rural areas. In conclusion, the sustainable integration of digital marketing strategies and the formation of local digital communities are essential to maintain business consistency. This program recommends infrastructure support from the local government to support the sustainability of the MSME digital economy in Batubara Regency.

Abstract

Digital transformation in accounting systems is a strategic step for manufacturing companies like Roti ROMI to improve stock data accuracy and financial reporting efficiency. This community service activity aims to provide assistance and training on the implementation of cloud-based accounting software, namely Accurate Online, to employees and youth within the Roti ROMI environment. The main problem faced by the partner prior to this activity was the disorganized recording of raw materials and finished goods, which was still done manually using Excel, leading to frequent data discrepancies. The implementation method included problem identification, planning using the 5W+1H system, implementation through interactive lectures and live simulations via Zoom Meeting, and an evaluation phase using pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' understanding of critical features such as item stock, inter-divisional item transfer, and item requisition. Employees are now able to prepare organized stock reports and monitor inventory in real-time through the system. The involvement of Politeknik Cendana students also accelerated the knowledge transfer process through intensive technical assistance. The conclusion of this service confirms that the use of Accurate Online has a positive impact on management in monitoring company operations transparently. This success is expected to motivate partners to fully transition to technology-based financial reporting to accelerate the process of preparing accurate reports in the digital era.

Abstract

Financial management is a crucial yet often overlooked aspect in the operations of micro-scale fish farmer groups. Pokdakan Farm Estate Martubung, located in the Martubung residential area, faces constraints in financial administration due to a limited understanding of basic accounting, resulting in the absence of clear financial reports to evaluate business profitability. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of group members in managing business finances, ranging from recording daily transactions to preparing simple financial statements. The method used is participatory community empowerment through stages of socialization, intensive training (workshops), and field mentoring. The results of the activity indicate a significant increase in participants' motivation and managerial awareness. Although the majority of participants do not have an accounting education background, they were able to understand and practice journalizing and preparing income statements after being provided with real-case-based simulations. The group now possesses formal recording documents as tools for business transparency and evaluation. This program concludes that managerial intervention is highly effective in shifting the mindset of traditional farmers into more professional business managers. It is recommended that there be continuous assistance from the local government and related institutions to ensure the sustainability of the established administrative system so that Pokdakan Farm Estate Martubung can develop into an independent and competitive business unit.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication skills are essential competencies for children in orphanages to build self-confidence and social adaptability. This community service project aims to enhance the interpersonal communication skills of children at the Cahaya Natanael Orphanage in Medan through the Role Play Project method. The participants consisted of 33 children from diverse regional backgrounds, aged between 6 and 18 years. The implementation methods included delivering basic communication theories, role-play simulations based on daily case studies, and participatory observation. Data were collected through field notes and analyzed using a qualitative approach. The results indicated an increased awareness of the importance of communication; however, the training objectives were not fully achieved across all participants. A significant variation in success was observed, where children who had resided longer and knew each other well were able to coordinate effectively, whereas new residents and those still grieving the loss of their parents tended to face obstacles in initiating interactions. The role of authority figures, such as the orphanage matron, remained dominant in directing the children's communication. The conclusion of this service emphasizes the need for program sustainability through various routine activities at the orphanage and consistent daily evaluations. Key recommendations include strengthening feedback mechanisms from the children and integrating communication exercises into every celebration at the orphanage to accelerate the children's social adaptation process.

Abstract

Indonesia's rapid population growth has led to an increase in waste volume, yet only 63.3% is adequately managed. A primary obstacle in waste management is the low level of public literacy and limited access to sorting facilities. This community service project aims to enhance public education and facilitate inorganic waste disposal through the implementation of Green Points. The method involved a strategic collaboration between academics, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BCA), and the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Indonesia, Medan Branch. Facilities were strategically placed across three of BCA’s largest branches in Medan in 2020, 2021, and 2024, complemented by socialization sessions for nearly 100 employees. The results indicate a significant increase in participants' awareness and understanding regarding the importance of waste segregation at the source. The presence of Green Points as a visual education medium successfully transformed waste disposal behavior in the corporate environment, as evidenced by the consistent volume of recycled materials collected. This program recommends replicating similar partnership models in other institutions to expand the impact of community-based waste management.

Abstract

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector based on handicrafts plays a strategic role in supporting household economies, including within religious educational institutions. This community service aims to empower students at Pondok Tahfidz Layar Dakwah through training in knitting crafts using wool yarn as an effort to create economic independence. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which includes observation stages, theoretical presentations, demonstrations of knitting techniques, and independent production practice. The program was conducted over two months (June-July) focusing on mastering basic techniques such as single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch. The results of the service showed a significant increase in the students' skills, rising from 3.4% to 96.6% in their ability to produce marketable knitted bags. In addition to providing economic benefits through the formation of the boarding school's MSME unit, this knitting activity also serves as a means of mental relaxation (self-care) for students amidst their Al-Qur'an memorization routines. This program concludes that the integration of handicraft skills and entrepreneurship within the tahfidz boarding school environment is capable of creating a sustainable creative economic ecosystem.

Abstract

Housewives in urban areas such as Medan Tembung District have great potential as economic actors, but are often constrained by low managerial skills and limited market access. This community service program aims to empower housewives through home-based business management training covering business planning, simple financial recording, and digital marketing strategies. The implementation method was carried out systematically through four stages: needs identification, training design preparation, practice-based training (learning by doing), and intensive mentoring for two weeks. The results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, measured through pre-test and post-test with an average increase of 35%. Participants are now able to separate personal finances from business capital and have begun utilizing digital platforms such as WhatsApp Business to expand their marketing reach. Furthermore, the formation of a local business community is an important output to ensure program sustainability. In conclusion, strengthening managerial capacity accompanied by continuous mentoring effectively increases financial independence and the competitiveness of home-based micro-businesses.

Abstract

Financial management and tax compliance represent the primary challenges faced by micro-enterprises such as Cafe 13ML Kopi in Medan. The core issues identified include the commingling of personal and business finances, as well as the absence of formal financial statements, which hinders business performance analysis and access to financing. This community service activity aims to enhance financial literacy and tax awareness through socialization and technical assistance. The methods employed include motivational lectures, tutorials on preparing financial statements based on simplified standards, and interactive discussions regarding MSME tax issues. The results of the activity indicate an improvement in the partner's understanding of basic accounting equations and the accounting cycle, ranging from transaction recording to the preparation of income statements. Furthermore, the partner now possesses stronger motivation to separate personal and business assets and to report taxes regularly in accordance with the latest regulations. The conclusion of this activity is that basic accounting and tax education can strengthen the internal governance of MSMEs, ultimately supporting business sustainability and management professionalism at Cafe 13ML Kopi.

Abstract

Tulisan ini mengeksplorasi dampak media sosial dan kreativitas pada UKM (Usaha Kecil danMenengah) buah di pasar tradisional Berastagi. Tujuan dari pengabdian ini adalah untukmenambah wawasan, implementasi, dan pengetahuan tentang dampak media sosial terhadapkewirausahaan Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pengabdian ini yakni, melalui kegiatan inipara pelaku/penjual usaha buah di Berastagi dapat memanfaatkan aplikasi menggunakan mediasosial (facebook dan akun di market place shopee), yang dapat memberikan informasi danmengaplikasikan penggunaan media sosial dalam berwirausaha. Dari pengabdian ini, jugamampu memberikan informasi tentang peran media sosial dalam dunia kewirausahaan baikdalam perluasan pasar maupun perolehan pendapatan.
