Abstract

Anxiety disorders represent one of the most prevalent mental health challenges among adolescents globally, with significant implications for academic performance, social development, and overall well-being. While extensive research has examined the impact of digital technology on mental health in Western contexts, there remains a critical gap in understanding these relationships in smaller urban centres in Africa. This study addressed this gap by investigating the relationships between social media use intensity, cyberbullying victimisation, online peer support, and anxiety levels among adolescents in Oyo Town, Nigeria. A cross-sectional correlational design was employed with 250 adolescents (mean age=15.2years, SD=1.8;52% female) selected through multistage sampling from four secondary schools across two Local Government Areas. Data were collected using validated instruments: the SMUIS, CVS, OSS, and the SCARED scales. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between anxiety levels and both social media use intensity (r=0.483,p<.005) and cyberbullying victimisation (r=0.652,p<.005), while online peer support demonstrated a significant protective effect (r=-0.316, p<.001). Multiple regression analysis identified cyberbullying exposure as the strongest predictor of anxiety levels (β=.526,p<.001), followed by social media use intensity (β=.312,p<.001), with online peer support serving as a significant protective factor (β=-.241,p<.001). These digital variables accounted for 64.3% of the variance in adolescent anxiety levels, indicating a substantial influence of digital experiences on youth mental health in this context. The findings underscore the critical need for comprehensive cyberbullying prevention programs and culturally appropriate digital literacy interventions in Nigerian educational settings, while highlighting the potential of online peer support networks as protective mechanisms against adolescent anxiety.

Abstract

Despite extensive discussions on multiculturalism in education, few studies explore its foundations from an Islamic perspective, particularly through classical tafsir and authentic hadith. This study addresses this gap by uncovering the principles and values of multicultural education in Islamic teachings through an analysis of the Qur'an based on Ibn Kathīr's Tafsir and the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad SAW. The research employs a qualitative literature review approach, drawing primary data from Ibn Kathīr’s Tafsir and collections of authentic hadiths, and secondary data from Islamic and multicultural education literature. The findings reveal that the Qur'an and hadith contain strong principles of multiculturalism, including recognition of diversity, social justice, respect for human rights, and the promotion of cross-cultural dialogue. Ibn Kathīr’s Tafsir emphasizes that diversity is sunnatullah to be approached with wisdom and insight. Sources from the Qur'an that highlight these principles include Q.S. Al-Hujuraat: 13, Ar-Rūm: 22, Al-Maidah: 8, Al-Mujadalah: 11, An-Nisa: 135, Al-Baqarah: 178, Al-A'rāf: 199, and Al-Muthaffifin: 29. Relevant hadith include Sahih Bukhari no. 1376, Sahih Muslim no. 2564, Sunan Tirmidhi no. 3890, Ahmad no. 8595, Musnad Ahmad no. 15444, Sunan Ibn Majah no. 68, and Sunan Tirmidhi no. 520. These findings provide a conceptual framework for educators to design learning environments and curricula that actively respect and accommodate ethnic, cultural, and religious differences, fostering peaceful coexistence and moral integrity in schools. This research is a scholarly reference for integrating Islamic values into multicultural education practices.

Abstract

Conducted in the Philippines during the COVID-19 pandemic, this study employed Photovoice as a participatory platform for Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) students to express their experiences and evaluate their SAHMOP training in Partido State University at the foot of Mount Isarog and near coastal areas. Photovoice was also employed to collect and document students’ reflections on their experiences with home gardening, family participation, and civic engagement under the NSTP framework. It looked at and interpreted images to understand positive volunteer work, civic awareness, discipline, and proactive efforts. Among the 900 CWTS students trained under SAHMOP, 596 completed ten vegetable gardening stages. During the photovoice exhibit, students from marginalized communities expressed that the training fostered a sense of belonging and civic responsibility.  One student reflected, "We didn’t just do this for grades - we built friendships and learned to care for our community through gardening."  This participatory experience prepared students for real-world concerns, including climate change. Some underprivileged children showed the exhibit's inter-raters their best photovoice. Their response as policymakers was to create policies that promote SAHMOP in barangay local government units (LGUs) by linking them with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on excellent education, sustainable cities and communities, and partnerships.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly reshaped educational practices, requiring teachers to evolve from knowledge transmitters into dynamic facilitators of student-centred learning. This study adopts a library research method combined with content analysis to examine how teachers’ roles have transformed in response to technological innovation, particularly in enhancing learning effectiveness and student engagement. By reviewing a broad spectrum of recent scholarly articles, policy reports, and empirical studies, the research highlights that the integration of tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and interactive online platforms has fundamentally changed classroom dynamics and instructional design. For example, the use of gamified learning applications has been shown to increase student participation by fostering a sense of achievement, while adaptive learning software enables teachers to tailor content to individual progress, thereby improving comprehension and retention. As a result, educators are expected to develop advanced digital literacy, create innovative learning experiences, and adopt flexible strategies that respond to diverse learner needs. This shift requires sustained professional development, supportive institutional frameworks, and responsive educational policies that equip teachers to thrive in technology-rich environments. Moreover, meaningful integration of technology rather than its mere adoption has emerged as the key factor in driving improvements in motivation, engagement, and academic outcomes. This study contributes to the discourse on teacher professionalisation in the digital age and offers recommendations for policymakers and educational leaders to design effective training initiatives and support mechanisms for educators adapting to these evolving demands.

Abstract

This study examined the correlation between reading frequency and reading comprehension, particularly at the literal level, among eighth-grade students at SMP Labschool UNTAD Palu, as regular reading practice can strengthen word recognition, vocabulary, and the ability to grasp explicit information in texts. This study was conducted in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year using a Pearson Product-Moment correlation design. A total of 36 students were selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a reading frequency questionnaire and a reading comprehension test of 15 multiple-choice items based on descriptive texts from the Eighth-Grade syllabus. Instrument validity was tested using Pearson’s r, and reliability was analysed using Cronbach’s Alpha. All questionnaire items were declared valid, and the reliability analysis produced a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.743, indicating high internal consistency. There was a significant, moderate positive correlation between reading frequency and literal reading comprehension (r = 0.427; p = 0.009 (p < 0.05), indicating that increased reading frequency is associated with increased literal comprehension. The results of this study indicate that high reading frequency positively contributes to students' ability to identify explicit information in reading texts. This research strengthens the literature on basic literacy and can be a reference in developing a literacy-based curriculum at the junior high school level.

Abstract

The low mathematical literacy of junior high school students in Indonesia remains a challenge, as reflected in PISA results that consistently place Indonesia at the bottom in mathematical reasoning. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) assisted by H5P interactive videos in improving mathematical literacy compared to PBL without digital media. A quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design was applied to two grade VIII classes of a state junior high school in Cirebon, each consisting of 36 students. The instrument was a mathematical literacy test based on three PISA indicators: formulating, employing, and interpreting. Data analysis included normality, homogeneity, and an Independent Samples T-Test, supported by N-gain calculation. The results showed no significant difference in pre-test scores between the groups, indicating comparable initial ability. However, the experimental class achieved an N-gain of 0.71 (medium–high category), higher than the control class of 0.38 (low–medium category), with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. These findings confirm that integrating H5P into PBL significantly improves students' mathematical literacy. The study concludes that interactive media serve not only as a learning aid but also as a pedagogical tool that fosters participatory, contextual, and meaningful learning, providing practical recommendations for mathematics teachers to adopt innovative digital approaches.

Abstract

Transformational leadership is recognized as a critical factor influencing creativity. This strategy should be executed to create an environment, procedure, and framework that fosters innovation in the banking sector. The current study aims to examine how transformational leadership (TL) influences product and process innovation within ACLEDA Bank Plc. in Cambodia. A total of 262 branch managers from ACLEDA Bank Plc. participated in this study, representing all branches of the bank across Cambodia. A quantitative design was employed in this study. Inspired by the Multi-Factor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), the first author of this study created and distributed a Transformational Leadership (TL) questionnaire. To minimize errors and ambiguity, the questionnaire forms were translated into Khmer and back-translated into English by experts, and the instruments were examined to confirm their validity by the field experts, too. The Khmer versions of the questionnaires were deployed in the field for testing, yielding a reliability coefficient of 0.93. The correlation between transformational leadership and innovation was examined using quantitative and explanatory analysis. This study employed structural equation modeling (SEM) using AMOS 20 software. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics via computer software methods. The findings indicated that transformational leadership is crucial in fostering innovation within ACLEDA Bank Plc. The primary finding reached was that Intellectual Stimulation exerts minimal influence on the originality of products and processes. Individualized Consideration emerged as the foremost predictor of both aspects, succeeded by Idealized Influence and Inspirational Motivation, respectively. The study indicated that a transformational leadership style improves the overall performance of ACLEDA Bank Plc. by encouraging employee participation in creative processes and products. These findings enhance our comprehension of the mechanisms through which TL fosters creativity. Furthermore, they emphasize the benefits of generating more innovative findings and achievements.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores how curriculum quality and personal factors shape TESOL students’ and graduates’ perceptions of their employability. The researcher has adopted a constructivist approach to analyse 37 semi-structured interviews with current students and alumni from a four-year TESOL undergraduate program at a private Cambodian university. The findings reveal that curriculum factors, such as content relevance, the balance between teaching theory and practice, and instructional quality, significantly impacted graduates’ confidence and employability. Practical experiences, including teaching practicum and micro-teaching, were crucial in enhancing self-efficacy and job readiness, while many participants found theoretical courses irrelevant to their careers. Personal factors, such as self-efficacy, motivation, social capital, and resilience, further influenced subjective employability outcomes. Graduates with higher self-confidence were more proactive in pursuing jobs, while strong networks led to faster employment. This study contributes to the TESOL employability literature and offers actionable insights for improving curriculum design, student support, and career services. Recommendations include more practical learning opportunities, better mentorship and networking, and fostering a growth mindset to enhance resilience and adaptability in graduates.

Abstract

This study explores the values of local wisdom within the Mandailing community's seven-monthly oral traditions, emphasising its significance in understanding the intricate relationship between culture, language, and the environment. The primary objective is to describe these values through an ecolinguistic perspective, supported by an ethnographic study of communication. The research employs listening and note-taking methods, ethnographic conversation, and recording techniques for data collection. The analysis utilises extra-lingual matching and contextual analysis to identify and interpret the embedded wisdom. Our findings reveal that local wisdom manifests in tangible forms, such as rice wrapped in leaves, gala shrimp, carp, and eggs, and intangible forms, exemplified by words of advice and admonition. These manifestations collectively embody noble values deeply rooted in the Mandailing people's culture. This research contributes to ecolinguistics by highlighting how oral traditions are a repository for cultural values and environmental knowledge.
