Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) learning model based on the TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) framework on improving students' cultural literacy. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design model. The research subjects consisted of 65 students, 33 students each from SMP Negeri 23 Medan and 32 students from MTs Miftahussalam Medan. The experimental group was taught using the TPACK integrated RADEC model, while the control group used conventional lecture-based methods. Data was obtained through a cultural literacy test in the form of writing expository texts about local cultural values. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS 27 through normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent sample t-tests. The results showed a significant increase in the cultural literacy ability of the experimental group compared to the control group. At SMP Negeri 23 Medan, the experimental group obtained an average posttest score of 87.12 compared to 61.36 in the control group. Meanwhile, at MTs Miftahussalam Medan, the average posttest of the experimental group reached 84.38 compared to 61.25 in the control group. These findings prove that the application of the TPACK-based RADEC model is effective in increasing student engagement and deepening their understanding of local culture through expository writing. The results of this study have practical implications for educators in designing technology-based learning that is contextual with local culture to strengthen the competencies of 21st century students.

Abstract

The research aimed to develop and validate an interactive learning module effectively applicable in distance education. Using an Educational Research and Development (R&D) model with a mixed-methods approach, the study collected quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data were obtained from pre-tests and post-tests to measure cognitive improvement, analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (paired t-test or Wilcoxon test) and effect size calculation. Learning analytics from the LMS—such as clicks, video-watching duration, and quiz scores—supported the analysis. Qualitative data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke, complemented with Likert-scale questionnaires, observation rubrics, and LMS logs. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ cognitive performance, with post-test scores (M = 13.24, SD = 1.07) much higher than pre-test scores (M = 3.67, SD = 1.41), t(19) = 25.43, p < 0.001, Cohen’s d = 5.69. LMS analytics showed high engagement, with 82% average video completion and frequent quiz participation. Over 85% of students reported greater satisfaction and motivation using the interactive module. The integration of short videos, diagnostic quizzes, and web simulations proved effective for self-directed learning and comprehension, supporting the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework in inclusive digital education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and measure students' mathematical critical thinking skills through the ELPSA (Experience, Language, Pictorial, Symbolic, Application) learning model integrated with Math City Map (MCM). Using Mixed methods with a sequential explanatory design involving 130 MTsN students in Sarolangun Regency, who were divided into experimental and control classes. Quantitative data were collected through pretests and posttests, while qualitative data were gathered through observation, interviews, and field notes. Through the independent sample t-test, the posttest score of the experimental class (M = 65.68; SD = 14.231) was higher than the control class (M = 52.98; SD = 11.737) with a 2-tailed Sig. <0.001 and a large effect size (Cohen's d = 0.973). Qualitative analysis strengthens these findings by showing increased engagement, courage to express opinions, and students' ability to provide logical reasons. The synergy of ELPSA and MCM has been proven to provide contextual, interactive, and meaningful learning, thus encouraging students to be more active in critical thinking. Further research is recommended to expand the context and educational levels to assess the consistency of the ELPSA model integrated with Math City Map at various cognitive levels.

Abstract

This study examined how Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications influence the development of critical thinking and creativity within the Pancasila Student Profile framework in Indonesia. Using a quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test control design, the research involved 64 eleventh-grade students in a six-week project-based learning unit on environmental issues. The experimental group employed various AI tools, while the control group relied on conventional approaches. Students’ cognitive progress was assessed through validated essay tests and project rubrics. The results showed that AI integration led to substantially greater improvements in both critical thinking and creativity. Students in the AI-assisted group achieved significantly higher gains in critical thinking (5.63 vs. 2.18) and creativity (4.56 vs. 1.62), with large effect sizes indicating strong practical significance. These outcomes suggest that AI can function as a powerful cognitive amplifier, promoting deeper analytical thinking and more flexible idea generation. However, although AI enhanced cognitive aspects of the Pancasila Student Profile, it did not inherently support moral or social dimensions. Thus, future studies should investigate how AI can be combined with value-oriented and collaborative learning strategies to foster holistic development. Overall, the findings highlight the importance of adopting AI in balanced ways that advance higher-order thinking while upholding human-centered educational values.

Abstract

This study addresses the urgent need to foster empathy and tolerance in Social Studies (IPS) learning, especially within the Proclamation of Independence theme often neglected in traditional teaching. It aims to examine the effectiveness of internet-based media in developing these social values among fifth-grade students at SDN Moahino. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the study involved 10 students, a homeroom teacher, the principal, and several subject teachers selected purposively. Data were gathered through observations, interviews, and documentation over two learning cycles and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model with triangulation for validity. Results showed that in the first cycle, the use of internet media had little impact on students’ attitudes, while in the second cycle, significant improvement occurred. Students exhibited higher empathy—respecting teachers, helping peers, and giving praise—and greater tolerance by cooperating without discrimination, avoiding bullying, and appreciating others’ opinions. The study concludes that internet-based media, particularly educational videos, effectively enhance empathy and tolerance when applied systematically and aligned with character education. Broader and more creative use of digital content is recommended to strengthen values-based learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) among Grade IV students in IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) learning, particularly in the theme “Caring for the Environment” at SD Negeri Masadian. Conventional teaching methods still dominate, limiting students’ opportunities to think critically and solve problems independently. The purpose of this research was to describe the implementation of an inquiry-based learning model and examine its impact on students’ HOTS. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, involving 30 students of Grade IV, along with the school principal, classroom teacher, and IPAS subject teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, and HOTS-based tests. The findings showed significant improvements in three core competencies: (1) analytical skills, seen in students’ ability to break down environmental issues and present logical arguments; (2) synthesis skills, reflected in integrating diverse information into data-driven solutions; and (3) evaluative skills, demonstrated by assessing information sources, comparing alternatives, and making evidence-based decisions. In conclusion, the inquiry-based approach effectively enhanced students’ critical, reflective, and integrative thinking, enabling them to connect IPAS concepts with real-life environmental challenges.
