Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the nutritional value and fiber fraction of the Samurai sorghum variety II due to the harvest age and urea fertilizer dosage levels in producing high-nutrient forage raw materials. This study used a completely randomized plan factorial pattern (3 x 3) with 3 replications. The first factor was the treatment of harvest age of 60, 65 and 70 days, and the second factor was the urea fertilizer dosage of 150, 200, and 250 kg ha-1. The parameters observed included crude protein (%), crude fiber (%), crude fat (%) and NDF (%), ADF (%), and hemicellulose (%) in the Samurai sorghum variety II. The data obtained was analyzed with General Linear Models (GLM) and further tested with the Tukey Test. The results showed that there was no interaction between cutting age and urea fertilizer dose on the content of crude protein (%), crude fiber (%), crude fat (%), NDF, ADF, and hemicellulose in the Samurai sorghum variety II. There are also no significan differences caused by each factor, except for the variable of the average value of crude fiber at the 70-day cutting age which is higher compared to other cutting ages. The conclusion that there was no effect of interaction between harvest age and fertilizer dose on crude protein (%), crude fiber (%), crude fat (%) and NDF (%), ADF (%), and hemicellulose (%).   The conclusion of this study is that the best treatment, namely the best treatment, is the single factor of 65 days of cutting age because it is able to reduce crude fiber.

Abstract

Goat milk yoghurt has considerable potential as a functional dairy product because of its high nutritional value and digestibility. However, its distinctive goaty aroma may reduce consumer acceptance. Incorporating cempedak fruit (Artocarpus champeden), known for its strong and distinctive aroma, is anticipated to enhance the sensory quality of goat milk yoghurt. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding cempedak before and after fermentation on the physical properties (pH and color) and organoleptic characteristics of goat milk yoghurt. The experiment consisted of two treatments with four replicates: addition of cempedak after fermentation (A) and addition before fermentation (B). The physical properties were analyzed using instrumental measurements, and organoleptic data were evaluated using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that Treatment A produced a higher pH value than treatment B. In terms of color, treatment A exhibited higher lightness (L*), whereas treatment B exhibited higher redness (a*) and yellowness (b*). Organoleptic evaluation indicated that the yoghurt with cempedak added after fermentation was preferred by panelists in terms of taste, aroma, texture, and color. In conclusion, the timing of cempedak addition significantly influenced both the physicochemical and sensory qualities of goat milk yoghurt, with post-fermentation addition providing better overall acceptability.

Abstract

Feed is crucial in livestock farming. Rising feed prices are a new challenge, and solutions are needed to reduce feed costs by replacing pellets with homemade protein. Black Soldier Fly are recommended protein sources.The purpose of this study was to determine the results of a mixture of rice waste and green vegetable waste on the performance and nutritional content of maggots. The research method used was an experiment or trial in the form of a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) where the treatment given was a combination with different percentages of the BSF living media. The treatment of the maggot growing media was 5 treatments and 3 replications with the treatment arrangement in this study as follows: P1 = 100% Rice Waste, P2 = 75% Rice Waste + 25% Green Vegetable Waste, P3 = 50% Rice Waste + 50% Green Vegetable Waste, P4 = 25% Rice Waste + 75% Green Vegetable Waste and P5 = 100% Green Vegetable Waste. Observed variables: maggot and colony weight, maggot length, maggot protein and fat content. The results showed that feeding fermented household waste did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) in individual weight and maggot length. However, it did significant effect (P<0.05) in colony weight, crude protein, and crude fat content. The best performance and nutrient content was found in treatment P5 (feeding 100% green vegetable waste) with an average colony weight of 1355.67±11.50 g, crude protein content of 34.88% and crude fat content of 30,92%. The conclusion of this study is that fermented household waste feed has no significantly effect on the performance and crude protein content of maggots

Abstract

Digital transformation in the livestock sector is one of the efforts to improve business management efficiency and expand market access for farmers. However, the utilization of digital technology in rural areas still faces various obstacles, particularly regarding infrastructure, digital literacy, and human resource readiness. This study aims to assess the level of digital application adoption among horse farmers and identify factors influencing its utilization in the management of horse farms in Tolo Timur Village, Kelara Subdistrict, Jeneponto Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach supported by descriptive quantitative data, with data collection techniques including interviews, questionnaires, observations, and a literature review, involving 30 horse farmers selected using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed descriptively using a Likert scale to measure farmers' perceptions regarding several indicators: internet availability, ease of application use, application utilization in livestock business management, and interest in participating in digital training. The results of the study indicate that only half of the farmers (50%) own a smartphone, and the utilization of digital applications in livestock business management remains relatively low. The main challenges include limited digital literacy, limited experience with technology, and the perception that digital applications remain difficult to use in livestock business activities. Nevertheless, some farmers expressed an interest in participating in training on the use of digital applications. Therefore, support is needed in the form of improved digital literacy, training and mentoring for farmers, and the development of simple, user-friendly applications to enable the optimal use of digital technology in the livestock sector.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of limming time on protein content, fat content and yield in Rote sheepskin crackers. The skin used in this study is the skin from fresh Rote sheep which is used as research material. This study used an experimental method with a Complete Random Design (RAL) design consisting of three treatments and 5 replicates. The treatment is P1: limming duration is 150 minutes, P2: limming duration is 180 minutes and P3: limming duration is 210 minutes and each treatment gets 5 repeats. The variables tested were protein levels, fat levels, and yield. Cracker data on protein content, fat content and yield in the analysis using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued the Duncan test. The results of the study showed that the duration of liming had a very real effect (P<0.01) on the yield where the longer the liming of the yield decreased. The length of limming has a significant effect (P<0.05) on fat levels where fat levels increase in limming is higher. Meanwhile, the limming  period had no real effect (P<0.05) on protein levels. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the soaking time has an effect on the fat content and yield of Rote sheepskin crackers, while the protein content is relatively unaffected. High limming time increases fat content but tends to lower yield, so it is necessary to optimize the length of limming time in the process of making Rote sheepskin crackers.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary hesperidin supplementation on total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels in the blood and meat of broiler chickens. Method research was experimental with a completely randomised design (CRD), consisting of 6 treatments and 6 replications. A total of 36 broilers were randomly allocated into six treatment groups using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD): K0 (standard feed), K1 (hypercholesterolemic feed), K2 (Simvastatin 0.1 mg/kg body weight), P1 (Hesperidin 10 mg/kg feed), P2 (Hesperidin 20 mg/kg feed), and P3 (Hesperidin 30 mg/kg feed). The observed parameters included total cholesterol, LDL, and HDL concentrations in serum and meat samples. Data were analysed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and significant differences were further tested using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that hesperidin supplementation significantly reduced total cholesterol and LDL levels in both blood and meat compared to the hypercholesterolemic group (p < 0.05). In addition, hesperidin significantly increased HDL levels in serum and meat. These findings suggest that hesperidin has potential as a natural feed additive to improve lipid profiles and enhance the nutritional quality of broiler meat by modulating cholesterol metabolism. Conclusion based on the analysis conducted in this study, the best results were observed in treatment P2 (hesperidin at a dose of 20 mg/kg), which was able to improve meat quality. Furthermore, the contribution of margin analysis showed a positive financial impact for the P2 group.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rice straw bokashi and bat guano application on the growth of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) cv. Raden and to determine the most effective treatment combination. The experiment was conducted in Witaponda District, Morowali Regency, Indonesia, from August to October 2024 using a Randomised Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisting of five treatments and five replications. The treatments included P0 (control), P1 (50 g rice straw bokashi + 200 g bat guano), P2 (100 g rice straw bokashi + 150 g bat guano), P3 (150 g rice straw bokashi + 100 g bat guano), and P4 (200 g rice straw bokashi + 50 g bat guano). The observed parameters were plant height, number of leaves, number of branches, and flowering age. Data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by correlation analysis to determine the relationship between plant height and leaf number. The results showed that the application of rice straw bokashi and bat guano positively affected the growth of bitter melon. The P4 treatment produced the best growth performance, with a plant height of 140 cm, 35 leaves per plant, the highest number of branches, and the earliest flowering age of 23.75 days after planting (DAP). The combination of bokashi and guano improved nutrient availability, enhanced soil physical and biological properties, and stimulated microbial activity, thereby promoting both vegetative and generative growth. Correlation analysis revealed a strong positive relationship between plant height and leaf number (r = 0.84), indicating balanced plant development. These findings demonstrate that the application of 200 g rice straw bokashi combined with 50 g bat guano is the most effective treatment for improving growth and accelerating flowering of bitter melon cv. Raden has potential as an environmentally friendly organic fertilisation strategy.

Abstract

The research was conducted from late July to early August 2024 on the roadsides of the Cikole pine forest tourist area, Lembang. The study aimed to analyze the botanical composition and carrying capacity of forage in the surrounding area. The sampling method used was purposive sampling through direct field observation at the target locations. Sampling was conducted along roadsides around the pine forest at 10 sampling points. The distance between points was 400 meters, and at each point, five samples were taken, resulting in a total of 50 samples. Sampling used randomly placed 50 x 50 cm quadrants. The forage obtained was then cut and weighed to determine the fresh weight of the samples. The results showed the presence of 28 forage species, dominated by several forages, including Ageratina riparia, Cyperus rotundus, Miconia crenata, Digitaria sanguinalis, and Oplismenus burmannii. The carrying capacity of forage on the roadsides of the Cikole pine forest tourist area is 1.06 UT/ha/year, with fresh forage weight production of 13.38 tons/ha/year, and dry forage weight production of 5.7 tons/ha/year.

Abstract

Chinese cabbage is one of the vegetable commodities with high market demand and relatively stable selling prices at the farmer level in traditional markets. Farmers’ dependence on inorganic fertilisers in cultivation practices has led to declining environmental quality, reduced soil fertility, and increased production costs. In an effort to reduce the use of inorganic fertilisers, environmentally friendly technological innovations have been developed, one of which is the utilisation of tofu industrial wastewater as an eco-friendly fertiliser. Tofu wastewater is often discarded into the environment and has not been utilised optimally. This study aimed to determine the effect of liquid organic fertiliser (LOF) made from tofu wastewater on the growth and production of Chinese cabbage. The study used a one-factor Randomised Block Design (RBD) with five treatment levels and five replications, using doses of 20 ml, 40 ml, 80 ml, and 160 ml each diluted with water. Data were analysed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a significance level of 0.05. The increase in tofu wastewater LOF dosage was in line with the improvement in growth and production of Chinese cabbage, comparable to plants treated with 100% NPK fertiliser. The optimal growth and production were obtained at the 160 ml dosage, which was able to replace the use of 100% NPK fertiliser.

Abstract

Lahan kering umumnya memiliki pH masam, kandungan bahan organik rendah, serta ketersediaan unsur hara yang terbatas, sehingga produktivitasnya belum optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh pemberian hidrogel berbahan limbah daun nanas yang diperkaya Pseudomonas fluorescens terhadap perubahan sifat kimia tanah di lahan kering. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga perlakuan, yaitu tanpa hidrogel (kontrol), hidrogel + P. fluorescens, dan hidrogel tanpa bakteri, masing-masing diulang empat kali. Parameter yang diamati meliputi pH tanah, C-organik, N-total, P₂O₅ tersedia, kation basa (K, Ca, Mg, Na), kapasitas tukar kation (KTK), kejenuhan basa, serta Al³⁺ dan H⁺ yang dapat ditukar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan hidrogel + P. fluorescens memberikan perbaikan paling signifikan dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya, ditandai dengan peningkatan pH dari 5,85 menjadi 6,15, C-organik dari 2,45% menjadi 4,06%, N-total dari 0,13% menjadi 0,33%, dan P₂O₅ dari 10,86 ppm menjadi 17,60 ppm. Selain itu, terjadi peningkatan KTK dan kejenuhan basa serta penurunan Al³⁺ dan H⁺ yang dapat ditukar. Temuan ini menunjukkan adanya sinergi antara fungsi hidrogel sebagai sumber bahan organik dan peran bakteri dalam meningkatkan ketersediaan hara serta menekan kemasaman tanah. Dengan demikian, kombinasi hidrogel limbah daun nanas dan P. fluorescens berpotensi menjadi strategi bioameliorasi yang ramah lingkungan untuk rehabilitasi lahan kering.
