Abstract

Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) have become a flexible learning solution that is widely accessible. Drop Out is still a problem in MOOC learning. Many factors cause participants to choose not to continue their studies in MOOC, including limited study time and high workloads. The meaning of presence in online learning is often overlooked, even though it plays an important role in enhancing participant engagement and success. This study aims to describe the needs of MOOC participants for the meaning of presence in online learning, inspired by the community of inquiry framework. The survey was conducted with 150 graduates of Zoonoses Control Training. Data processing was conducted using Microsoft Excel to analyze the response patterns of participants. The research results show that the majority of participants responded positively to the meaning of presence in MOOC. Participants strongly agree that the cognitive presence, social presence, and teaching presence is needed in MOOC learning. These findings make an important contribution to the development of higher-quality MOOC by emphasizing the importance of creating a more inclusive and interactive learning environment. By understanding the meaning of presence in MOOC, course designers can create more engaging learning experiences and reduce dropout rates, thereby ensuring that online learning is more effective and sustainable.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the performance of PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (MNA) Bandung District through the application of the Balanced Scorecard, with particular emphasis on assessing the presence and maturity of a learning organization within the company. As MNA strives to enhance service quality and maintain a competitive position in the aviation industry, it becomes increasingly important to measure not only operational performance but also the company’s adaptability to evolving business conditions. Although PT MNA holds ISO 9002 certification - demonstrating established business processes - this research highlights the need for strategic management tools that align with the company’s vision and mission to drive accountability and measurable outcomes. In an era marked by digital transformation and the rise of e-commerce, the company must adopt an integrated management approach that supports ongoing performance evaluation and continuous development. Fostering a culture of learning within the organization is vital for navigating change and achieving both internal enhancements and external competitiveness. By examining MNA's current performance and the extent to which it embodies a learning organization, this study offers insights into the company’s preparedness to meet dynamic industry challenges. The findings are expected to inform improvements in strategic planning and operational effectiveness. Future research should delve deeper into how cultivating a learning organization impacts long-term success and competitive advantage.

Abstract

Quality financial statements are critical as they form the basis of decision-making for investors, regulators, and other stakeholders. This study seeks to provide empirical evidence on how various factors including “Leverage, Profitability, Institutional Ownership, Managerial Ownership, Independent Board of Commissioners, Audit Committee, Female Executives, and Competence” affect the quality of financial statements in banking companies listed on the IDX. The main focus of the study is to review the collective and individual impact of these variables. The secondary data source of this research is the annual report and performance summary of banking companies for the 2021-2023 period which are accessed through the IDX portal and the company's official website. Of the 47 eligible companies, this study took a sample of 27 banking companies through purposive sampling technique. The research hypothesis was then tested by applying multiple regression analysis. The results of this study reveal that Leverage, Institutional Ownership, Independent Board of Commissioners, and Audit Committee have a significant influence on the quality of financial statements. However, Profitability, Managerial Ownership, Female Executives, and Competence did not show a similar impact. Interestingly, when reviewed together, all these factors collectively affect financial statement quality. These findings underscore the important role of corporate governance in driving financial statement quality, while suggesting that some elements such as female executives and managerial ownership may not have a direct impact. Future research could explore additional variables or different sectors to deepen the understanding of financial reporting quality.

Abstract

Employees in an agency or company are the most important assets that affect the progress of a company, so there is a need to improve the quality of employee performance. Employee performance is an achievement achieved by an employee in carrying out work in accordance with the standards or criteria set in the company.  The need for employee performance is important in an agency or company because it is related to a decision-making system for the company. This study aims to analyze the practice of decision-making systems for employee performance assessment. The method used in writing this article is literature review. The results of the study show that important indicators or criteria are considered in determining the weight of employee assessments. The methods of a Decision Making System (SPK) are very diverse to support the ranking and determinants of employee assessment decisions. Based on the literature review above, the author argues that the decision support system in assessing the best employee performance is with the Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) algorithm. This is supported by the assessment criteria used, including work performance, loyalty, initiative, responsibility, cooperation, communication, discipline, obedience and leadership. These criteria are often used in research to assess employee performance and produce a decision related to human resources that can be used by leaders in determining their company goals.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the influence of technical competence on employee performance. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, which refers to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines. In the midst of the dynamics of the ever-evolving world of work, technical competence is one of the key factors in supporting increased productivity and work effectiveness. With reference to the PRISMA guidelines, a total of 21 articles published between 2020 and 2025 were systematically reviewed. The articles come from a variety of sectors, including government, private, and education. The results of the study show that technical competence consistently has a positive and significant effect on employee performance. Employees with adequate technical skills tend to complete tasks faster, produce quality output, and are able to adapt to technological changes. In addition, some studies show that the influence of technical competence can be amplified by other factors such as motivation, leadership, and work discipline. These findings support the importance of developing technical competencies as an integral part of human resource management strategies. This research provides theoretical contributions in strengthening competency-based management models, as well as practical implications for organizations in designing employee performance training and evaluation.

Abstract

The condition of gender equality in education in Indonesia is an issue that continues to make progress, although it is not yet aligned with the global gender equality situation. Based on the Global Gender Gap Index (GGGI) in 2021, Indonesia still ranks 101 out of 156 countries with a score of 0.688 or 68.8 percent gender equality. Indonesia's ranking in the GGGI sub-index, particularly in educational attainment, is relatively lower. This research examines the condition of gender inequality in education and its impact on poverty in Indonesia at the district/city level. By using panel data from 2012 to 2021, the analysis reveals variations in gender disparities in education across different districts/cities. The research findings show a significant negative relationship between gender inequality in education, measured by the ratio of average years of schooling for females compared to males, and the poverty indicator, indicating that an increase in gender equality in education can contribute to poverty alleviation efforts. The research emphasizes the importance of a contextual approach to address specific challenges and opportunities in different regions. Policy recommendations include promoting gender equality in education, eliminating gender stereotypes, and considering factors such as economic growth, population size, internet access, and social assistance programs in poverty alleviation efforts. This research is expected to contribute to policy-making efforts to achieve gender equality and poverty reduction in Indonesia

Abstract

This research seeks to examine and evaluate the influence of Profitability (measured by Return on Assets/ROA), Capital Structure (measured by Debt to Equity Ratio/DER), and Good Corporate Governance (measured by the Board of Directors) on the Price to Earnings Ratio (PER) among property and real estate firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Employing a quantitative research approach, the study focused on companies listed between 2020 and 2023, totaling 94 firms. After applying specific selection criteria, a sample of 44 companies was obtained for analysis. Panel data regression using EViews software was utilized to process the data. The findings reveal that profitability, as indicated by ROA, has a positive and statistically significant impact on financial performance, represented by PER. Conversely, DER was found to have no significant influence, while the Board of Directors demonstrated a negative and significant effect on PER. These results are specific to the property and real estate sector listed on the IDX.

Abstract

The customer refund system at minimarkets like Alfamart has drawn criticism for creating an imbalance between consumers and pelaku usaha. Although Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection grants consumers equal legal standing with pelaku usaha, practical issues persist, particularly regarding consumer rights when insufficient uang kembalian is provided. This research examines the legal protections for consumers who incur losses due to a lack of uang kembalian at Alfamart and explores available legal remedies. Using a descriptive analysis approach with a normatif yuridis method, the study evaluates the relevant business law frameworks. Findings reveal that Law No. 8 of 1999 does not specifically regulate insufficient uang kembalian in retail, but the Kitab Undang-Undang Hukum Perdata (Civil Code) classifies failure to provide refunds as wanprestasi (breach of contract). Additionally, pelaku usaha are subject to the principle of strict liability (tanggung jawab mutlak), making them accountable for consumer losses resulting from unlawful acts, regardless of fault. These results highlight the need for clearer legal guidelines on consumer refunds in the retail sector. The study suggests that stricter enforcement of consumer rights and more explicit regulatory frameworks are essential to ensure fair treatment for consumers in retail transactions.

Abstract

In accordance with Law No. 11 of 2012 on the Child Criminal Justice System, Diversion is intended as an alternative approach to handling juvenile criminal cases, aiming to reduce recidivism rates among young offenders in Indonesia. Although the implementation of diversion in the judicial process—at the investigation, prosecution, and trial stages—has proven relatively effective, technical challenges remain, particularly when juvenile offenders deny or default on the terms of diversion agreements. This issue was highlighted in case Number 1/Pid.Sus-Anak/2017/PN.Cbn, where the perpetrator failed to honor the agreement, leading to the re-trial of the case despite the earlier diversion decision. The main objectives of this study are to examine the implementation of diversion in the juvenile justice process according to Law No. 11 of 2012 and to analyze the legal consequences when victims' rights are not fulfilled during diversion. The research uses a normative legal approach, focusing on existing literature and legal frameworks. The findings reveal that if a diversion agreement is not executed within the stipulated time—particularly regarding victim compensation, restoration, or community service—the judge's decision with legal force may be annulled. As demonstrated in the aforementioned case, failure to fulfill diversion terms leads to default, causing the criminal process to resume. This study highlights the need for stricter enforcement of diversion agreements to ensure effective implementation and protection of both the rights of the victims and the integrity of the diversion process.

Abstract

Structural inequality poses a persistent challenge within the criminal justice system, shaped by social factors such as poverty, race, and gender. Restorative justice offers an alternative to retributive models by emphasizing the restoration of relationships through inclusive dialogue among victims, offenders, and communities. This study evaluates the effectiveness of restorative justice in addressing structural inequality, utilizing qualitative methods including literature analysis and case studies from various countries, such as Indonesia. The analysis draws on academic journals, policy reports, and legal documents, alongside practical examples of restorative justice implementation. Findings suggest that restorative justice can promote a more inclusive justice system by empowering both victims and offenders and facilitating community involvement. However, challenges persist, including institutional bias, resource limitations, and resistance from the conventional justice system. To enhance the effectiveness of restorative justice, the study recommends institutional reforms, context-sensitive mediator training, and increased policy and resource support. Furthermore, fostering synergy between formal legal mechanisms and local, community-based approaches is crucial for addressing the root causes of structural inequalities. Overall, while restorative justice demonstrates significant potential, its success depends on overcoming systemic barriers and ensuring sustained commitment from all stakeholders.
