Abstract

Gout arthritis is a non-communicable disease caused by hyperuricemia, with increasing prevalence due to aging, lifestyle changes, and limited public knowledge on prevention and early detection. This activity aimed to improve community knowledge and conduct uric acid screening to support early prevention in Garut City District. Methods included interactive health education, uric acid testing using the Easy Touch GCU device, and pre-test and post-test evaluation among 30 participants. Results showed that 23,3% had high uric acid levels and 33,3% had a history of gout arthritis. Knowledge significantly improved after the intervention, with good knowledge increasing from 20% to 80%. The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference before and after education (p < 0,05). This activity effectively improved community awareness and supports preventive and promotive efforts for gout arthritis through education and early detection.

Abstract

Household organic waste management is one of the main environmental challenges in Indonesia, especially in rural areas with limited access to formal waste processing facilities. This community service activity was carried out in Garut on April 24, 2026, with the aim of increasing public understanding and skills in processing household organic waste into compost. The method used was a workshop combining interactive lectures and hands-on practice demonstrations using a simple composter drum. Participants were members of the local community, primarily housewives. The results showed that participants were highly enthusiastic and gained new knowledge about composting principles, organic waste sorting, and the application of compost as organic fertilizer for home gardens. 90,91% of participants reported that the activity was very beneficial and expressed readiness to independently practice composting at home. Through this activity, it is expected that the community will be able to manage organic waste sustainably, reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, and minimize environmental pollution.

Abstract

Over time, plastic waste has become one of the most dangerous environmental pollutants because it is difficult to decompose and can even last for more than 1,000 years. The goal of this training is to provide a demonstration of technology that is easily applicable in everyday life, so that the community is better educated and motivated to actively participate. The training method is descriptive, targeting the village/sub-district community where the Community Service Program (KKN) is being implemented, particularly housewives, teenagers, and students who play an active role in household waste management habits. The training also opens up opportunities to utilize waste as a material with economic value. Inorganic waste such as plastic bottles, paper, and cans is starting to be viewed not only as waste but also as a resource that can be recycled into recycled products. Some participants are even interested in developing creative ideas, such as making crafts from used plastic or selling recyclable items to waste banks. Through appropriate education, it is hoped that the community will be able to manage waste safely and in accordance with health protocols.

Abstract

Abstract The Merah Putih Village/Subdistrict Cooperative Program is a national strategic policy aimed at strengthening the community economy through cooperative institutions. This program is supported by a strong legal foundation, including Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025 and Law Number 25 of 1992 concerning Cooperatives. Ponorogo Regency is one of the regions with a high implementation rate, marked by the establishment of 307 cooperatives covering all villages and subdistricts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Merah Putih Cooperatives in community economic empowerment through a comparative approach between rural and urban areas. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method supported by secondary data analysis and descriptive statistics. The results show that administratively the program has been effective with 100% coverage, but operationally it remains less than optimal due to the low number of active cooperatives. Urban areas demonstrate better organizational performance, while rural areas possess greater economic potential but face institutional and accessibility constraints.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes mellitus are silent diseases that often remain undetected in their early stages but may lead to serious complications. Limited public knowledge and restricted access to healthcare services in rural areas, including Parakan Village, Samarang District, Garut Regency, pose challenges for early detection of NCDs. This community service program aimed to improve public knowledge and awareness of silent diseases through health education and simple medical examinations. The activity was carried out in Parakan Village involving 55 adult and elderly participants at risk of NCDs. The methods included interactive health education on silent diseases, simple medical examinations (blood pressure, blood glucose, uric acid, and BMI), as well as medication provision and counseling by healthcare professionals and pharmacists. Knowledge evaluation using pre-test and post-test showed an increase in the average score from 63 to 85 (+22 points; ±34.9%). These results indicate that health education and medical examinations are effective in improving community understanding while supporting early detection and prevention of NCDs, particularly silent diseases, at the community level.

Abstract

Limited access to information and health services in rural areas triggers disparities in public health literacy, particularly regarding the risk of maternal anemia and the threat of infectious disease transmission. This community service program, titled "SIGAP DESA" (Siaga Ibu Hamil dan Penyakit Menular di Masyarakat Desa), aimed to improve health knowledge, awareness, and early screening of disease risks among residents of Bagendit Village. The program was attended by 50 participants. Interventions were conducted using a promotive approach via interactive PowerPoint-based lectures (covering maternal anemia, tuberculosis, measles, and basic immunization) and a preventive approach through free health screenings (blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, and uric acid). The effectiveness of the education was measured using pre-test and post-test questionnaire instruments to assess participants' knowledge levels. The evaluation results showed a significant surge in health literacy, where participants with a good knowledge level increased from 24% to 86% post-education. The health screening successfully identified high-risk residents, who were immediately directed to the local community health center (Puskesmas) referral system. The SIGAP DESA program is proven to be effective in improving the knowledge of Bagendit Village residents and has successfully facilitated access to free health screening services for rural communities.
