Abstract

This study aims to describe user perceptions of circulation services at the Library and Archives Service of Padang Pariaman Regency. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative with a survey approach. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 89 respondents who were active library users. The research instrument covered four main aspects: service procedures, service speed, staff friendliness, and facility comfort. The results show that overall, users’ perceptions of circulation services fall into the very good category with a percentage of 86.75%. The highest rated aspect was staff friendliness, indicating that interpersonal interactions between staff and users are highly appreciated. Meanwhile, the aspect of facility comfort received the lowest score among the four aspects, though it still fell within the good category. These findings indicate that the circulation service has met user expectations and is generally functioning effectively. The conclusion of this study is that the quality of circulation services at the library is at a satisfactory level, although there is still room for improvement, particularly in the area of facilities. The practical implication of this research is the need for continuous evaluation and overall service quality enhancement to support user satisfaction and loyalty.

Abstract

Motivation is an internal drive that compels an individual to take action and maintain behavior consistently. This study aims to reveal the relationship between student-teacher interaction and the learning motivation of twelfth-grade students at SMA Pertiwi 1 Padang. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, with convenience sampling involving 84 students as subjects. The instruments employed were a learning motivation scale developed by Hamzah (2011) and a student-teacher interaction scale adapted from the Questionnaire Teacher Interaction (QTI). Data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product Moment correlation technique. The results show that there is no significant relationship between student-teacher interaction and students’ learning motivation. The correlation coefficient was 0.183 for positive interaction and 0.166 for negative interaction, indicating that neither form of interaction had a significant impact on students' learning motivation. These findings suggest that students’ responses to teacher interaction were suboptimal, and other factors beyond student-teacher interaction are more influential in shaping learning motivation. The conclusion of this study is that although student-teacher interaction is an important component of the learning process, in this context, it has not significantly driven learning motivation. The implication of this research is the need to evaluate the interaction approaches used by teachers and to explore other factors that more broadly influence student motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and problematic internet use (PIU) among high school students in West Sumatra. A correlational quantitative approach was used with purposive sampling. The study involved 357 students who met the criterion of using the internet for more than five hours per day. The research instruments were validated self-esteem and PIU scales. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and PIU (r = -0.642; p < 0.05), indicating that the lower the self-esteem, the higher the tendency for students to engage in problematic internet use, and vice versa. These findings suggest that low self-esteem may be a risk factor for uncontrolled internet use behavior. The conclusion of this study is that self-esteem plays an important role in preventing excessive internet use, which can negatively affect students’ psychological well-being. The implications of this study highlight the need for self-esteem enhancement interventions in school guidance and counseling programs to reduce the risk of PIU among adolescents.

Abstract

Discipline is a fundamental character trait that shapes a responsible individual, especially amidst the ongoing wave of digitalization and technological advancement. The values of discipline are also embedded in Islamic teachings, as reflected in religious practices such as prayer, fasting, and other devotional activities. This study aims to describe the development of disciplined character among students (mahasantri) through religious activities at Pesantren Tinggi Al-Quds Dewan Dakwah in West Sumatra. A qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that discipline is developed through the routine and structured implementation of religious activities. In congregational prayer, discipline is instilled through understanding the importance of praying in congregation, the formation of a discipline team, the use of a morning wake-up reminder system, and the application of educational sanctions for negligence. In voluntary fasting and group iftar activities, discipline is reinforced through sahur reminders, collective contributions, and sanctions for non-participation. For Islamic study sessions, discipline is fostered through mandatory attendance twice a week, note-taking of the material presented, and sanctions for absenteeism. The conclusion of this study is that consistent and systematic religious activities significantly contribute to the development of discipline among mahasantri. The implication of this study emphasizes the importance of Islamic educational institutions in designing religious programs that are not only ritualistic but also character-building.

Abstract

This study discusses the development of religious character through the practice of Dhuha prayer at UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Kecamatan Harau. The purpose of this research is to examine the implementation of Dhuha prayer activities as a means of fostering students’ religious character and to identify supporting and inhibiting factors in its implementation. The method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. Data sources include informants such as the principal, vice principal, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) coordinator, Dhuha prayer supervising teacher, and ten seventh-grade students. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using technique and source triangulation. The findings show that the implementation of Dhuha prayer habituation at the school is well-executed and has significantly contributed to the development of students’ religious character. The activity has proven effective in fostering discipline, honesty, and responsibility, enhancing worship awareness, strengthening faith and devotion to Allah SWT, and promoting mutual respect among people of different religions. Supporting factors include school support, teacher involvement, and adequate facilities and infrastructure. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors involve a lack of awareness among some students and technical challenges in maintaining the routine. The conclusion of this study is that Dhuha prayer habituation is an effective strategy for holistically shaping students' religious character within the school environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of mindfulness on subjective well-being among university students residing in Padang City. A quantitative approach with a correlational research design was used. A total of 384 active students from the 2021 to 2023 cohorts were selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria. Data were collected using two scales: the subjective well-being scale developed by Amanah (2020) and the mindfulness scale developed by Meindy et al. (2022). Data analysis revealed a significance value of 0.035 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.108. These results indicate a statistically significant effect of mindfulness on subjective well-being, although the strength of the relationship is considered weak. The conclusion of this study is that an increase in mindfulness levels can contribute to enhanced subjective well-being among students, although additional efforts are needed to strengthen this relationship. The implications of this study highlight the importance of mindfulness-based psychological interventions to support students' subjective well-being in higher education environments.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the keadabiahan program in shaping the religious character of students at SMP Adabiah Padang. Religious character is a crucial aspect of character education, particularly in schools that are not explicitly based on Islamic values. The keadabiahan program is designed as a strategy for developing students’ personalities to be noble in character, disciplined, and highly aware of religious obligations. This research employs a qualitative field study approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews with the principal, teachers, and students, and documentation of the implemented keadabiahan programs. Data analysis was conducted descriptively through stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the implementation of the keadabiahan program is carried out through routine activities such as habituation of congregational prayer, maintaining etiquette in communication and behavior both inside and outside the classroom, environmental manners, and manners during eating and drinking. The program is supported by a religious school environment and active participation from the entire school community. Findings indicate that the program significantly contributes to shaping students’ religious character, as evidenced by increased worship discipline, politeness, and social awareness. Thus, the keadabiahan program at SMP Adabiah Padang can serve as an effective model for religious character development and can be replicated in other schools with similar visions.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the decline in students’ moral behavior, which is suspected to be influenced by the use of the TikTok application. The aim of the study is to determine the level of TikTok usage, the moral character of students, and the influence of TikTok usage on the moral character of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 29 Padang. This research uses a quantitative method with a correlational research design. The population consists of 306 students, with a sample of 75 students selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed with SPSS 25 software. Descriptive test results indicate a relatively high tendency of TikTok use among students. Correlation analysis shows a strong and significant relationship between TikTok usage and students’ moral character, with a correlation coefficient of 0.612 and a significance value of < 0.001, which is less than 0.05. This indicates that TikTok usage has a significant effect on students’ moral character, contributing 37.5%, while the remaining 62.5% is influenced by other factors not examined in this study. These findings highlight the need for supervision and education regarding social media use among students to prevent negative impacts on their character development.

Abstract

The presence of UIN III Imam Bonjol Campus in Balai Gadang Subdistrict has had a significant impact on the development of its surrounding area, particularly in terms of socioeconomic and educational aspects. This study aims to examine the physical spatial development of the area around the campus and its influence on the local community's socioeconomic and educational conditions. The research employs a quantitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method and spatial analysis techniques. The analysis process involves the application of the Generate Tesselation: H3 Hexagon method by converting the administrative shapefile data of Padang City into hexagon forms to produce more proportional and analyzable data. Development data from 2012 and 2022 were used for validation and visualization of spatial growth dynamics. The results indicate rapid physical development around the campus, marked by an increase in housing, business establishments, and supporting infrastructure. This development has directly contributed to increased economic activity and improved access to education for the local population. Although spatial deviations were observed in some areas, data validity remains high. The study concludes that the presence of the campus acts as a catalyst for spatial transformation while promoting improvements in the socioeconomic welfare of the surrounding community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Islamic educational values, particularly the concept of tawhid (oneness of God), in the animated series Ubay produced by Yufid TV as an alternative learning medium for children in the digital era. Islamic values need to be instilled from an early age to enable younger generations to fully understand and practice Islamic teachings, while exposure to digital content that does not align with Islamic principles presents a significant challenge. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis method, this study explores how tawhid values are conveyed in each episode of the Ubay animation. The findings show that the animation successfully delivers tawhid teachings through narratives emphasizing the recognition of God's oneness, the importance of prayer, gratitude, patience, empathy, and understanding Allah as the Creator. These values are communicated through storytelling, dialogue, and habituation methods presented in a simple and interactive manner, making it easier for children to comprehend and internalize the moral messages conveyed. The findings affirm that Ubay serves not only as entertainment but also as an effective educational medium for contextualizing Islamic values. The implication is that digital media products integrating religious messages such as Ubay can serve as valuable references in developing Islamic value-based learning media for early childhood education.
