Abstract

Janjang 1000 in Nagari Sulit Air, Kecamatan X Koto Diatas, Solok Regency, is a historic staircase that embodies the rich cultural heritage of the Minangkabau community. This study aims to analyze the aesthetic meaning and historical value of Janjang 1000, focusing on its architectural design, cultural relevance, and potential development as a tourist destination. A qualitative method was employed through field observations and in-depth interviews with local residents and historians. The findings reveal that Janjang 1000 functions not only as a connecting pathway but also holds symbolic meanings related to resilience, solidarity, and the local wisdom of the Minangkabau people. The complexity of the staircase’s construction and its utilization in daily life reflect the integration of function, aesthetics, and cultural identity. However, modernization and a lack of preservation awareness pose challenges to sustaining these values. Therefore, this study recommends community-based preservation strategies and the development of sustainable tourism that maintains the integrity of local culture. By highlighting the aesthetic and historical values of Janjang 1000, this research reinforces the importance of cultural heritage preservation as part of Minangkabau’s identity and regional appeal.

Abstract

Modern education demands the development of critical thinking skills as an essential component of the learning process. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Cooperative Learning model of the Snowball Throwing type in enhancing critical thinking skills among junior high school (SMP) students. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis involving teachers and students. The findings indicate that the Snowball Throwing model significantly improves students’ critical thinking abilities, particularly in problem analysis, constructing logical arguments, and objectively evaluating opinions. The activity of throwing questions and engaging in group discussions fosters a collaborative learning environment that encourages active student participation. Key findings include increased social interaction and depth of thinking, effective heterogeneous group division, and challenges such as classroom noise, low confidence among introverted students, and technical difficulties like illegible handwriting. Proposed solutions involve strengthening classroom management, utilizing digital media, and creating a more inclusive learning atmosphere. This study emphasizes the importance of teacher training in classroom management and critical questioning techniques, as well as the need for innovative learning media. The findings support Johnson and Johnson’s (2017) cooperative learning theory and previous research, recommending contextual application of this model alongside the development of mixed-methods approaches for broader generalization.

Abstract

Palatoschisis is a congenital craniofacial anomaly with significant clinical and social implications, particularly in developing countries where prevention and management efforts continue to face numerous challenges. This study aims to systematically review the scientific literature on risk factors, early detection methods, and management approaches for palatoschisis. A systematic literature review was conducted based on ten scholarly articles published in the past ten years, sourced from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria consisted of articles in English or Indonesian that addressed the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of palatoschisis. Thematic analysis was applied to categorize findings into key thematic areas. The review identified major risk factors including genetic mutations (e.g., IRF6 and MSX1), micronutrient deficiencies (folate and vitamin A), and exposure to teratogenic substances such as tobacco and pesticides. Early detection using 3D ultrasound was found to be effective for prenatal identification. Optimal management requires a multidisciplinary approach involving surgical intervention, speech therapy, and psychosocial support for both the child and their family. The study concludes by underscoring the importance of cross-sector collaboration in promoting comprehensive prevention and management strategies, as well as the need to ensure equitable access to healthcare services and public education to improve the quality of life for individuals affected by palatoschisis.

Abstract

Histopathological examination plays a crucial role in cancer diagnosis, including carcinoma mammae, yet systematic documentation of technical procedures remains limited, particularly in educational laboratory settings. This study aims to provide a detailed description of the histopathological examination stages of breast tissue using the Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) staining method in patients with carcinoma mammae. The research employed a descriptive approach conducted at an anatomical pathology laboratory from January to February 2025. The study object consisted of breast tissue specimens from cancer patients, processed through stages including fixation, macroscopic sectioning, dehydration, clearing, impregnation, embedding, microtome sectioning, HE staining, mounting, and microscopic evaluation. Key instruments included a rotary microtome, tissue processor, and autostainer, while materials used comprised alcohol, distilled water, xylol, hematoxylin, and eosin. Results indicate that each procedural step significantly contributes to tissue integrity and the quality of microscopic interpretation. HE staining proved effective in revealing cancer cell morphology, with hematoxylin staining cell nuclei bluish-purple and eosin staining cytoplasm pink. The histological features showed hallmark characteristics of malignant tumor cells, such as nuclear pleomorphism, atypical mitoses, and lymphovascular invasion. In conclusion, the HE staining method enables clear and accurate histological visualization to support the diagnosis of carcinoma mammae.

Abstract

Teacher certification is an official recognition of professional status aimed at enhancing teachers’ competencies and well-being, as well as strengthening the overall quality of education. This study systematically analyzes literature on the impact of teacher certification on analytical capacity, professional skills, and well-being. A systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted on ten relevant scholarly articles. The review findings indicate that certification positively contributes to improving teachers' professional capacity, including teaching skills and well-being through financial compensation. However, the study also identifies implementation challenges such as unequal distribution of certification allowances, misaligned financial incentives, and limited access to ongoing training. The research concludes that teacher certification holds significant potential to improve education quality, provided it is supported by comprehensive policies, continuous professional development, and adaptive growth strategies. These findings underscore the need for a holistic approach in the formulation and implementation of certification programs to ensure the optimal achievement of educational objectives.

Abstract

Islamic education serves as a fundamental pillar in shaping the character and intellect of the Muslim community; however, its traditional system often struggles to address the challenges posed by globalization and technological advancement. This article aims to examine the contribution of modern thought to the reform of Islamic education, particularly in the areas of curriculum development, teaching methods, and educational objectives. A literature-based approach was employed, analyzing the ideas of modern Islamic thinkers alongside contemporary practices in Islamic education. The analysis reveals that modern thought promotes the integration of religious and secular knowledge within the curriculum, the implementation of interactive and critical teaching methods, and the expansion of educational goals to include 21st-century competencies. This approach enables Islamic education to cultivate a generation that is not only religious but also capable of analytical thinking, creativity, and adaptability in the face of global change. Such reforms enrich the Islamic education system, making it more inclusive, contextual, and empowerment-oriented. Nonetheless, cultural resistance and limited resources remain significant challenges, necessitating collaboration among various stakeholders. Therefore, modern thought plays a strategic role in shaping an Islamic education system that is relevant, progressive, and responsive to contemporary demands.

Abstract

The primary sources of Islamic law revealed by Allah SWT through the Qur’an and Hadith were delivered in Arabic, reflecting the historical and linguistic context of the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) mission in the Arabian Peninsula. However, not all Muslims, particularly mujtahids, possess native-level Arabic proficiency, thereby necessitating precise linguistic methodologies for interpreting legal texts. This study aims to identify and classify linguistic methods within usul al-fiqh through a literature review employing a descriptive content analysis approach. The findings illustrate a range of linguistic approaches used to derive legal meanings from shar'i texts, including the method of Dilālah an-Nash (such as ‘Ibarah an-Nash, Isyarah an-Nash, Iqtidha’ an-Nash), the classification of wadlih ad-dilālah (explicit meanings) such as dzāhir, nash, mufassar, muhkam, and ghair wadlih ad-dilālah (ambiguous meanings) such as khafī, musykil, mujmal, and mutasyābih. The study also explores the concept of mafhum (including mafhum mukhalafah and mafhum muwafaqah), as well as lexical analysis concerning generality and specificity (‘āmm–khāṣ), unrestricted and restricted meanings (mutlaq–muqayyad), commands and prohibitions (amr–nahy), and semantic interpretation based on word usage (ḥaqīqah–majāz, ṣarīḥ–kināyah). The study concludes that the comprehension of Islamic law necessitates a systematic linguistic methodology to interpret shar'i texts accurately and contextually, especially for non-Arabic speakers.

Abstract

Children’s intellectual development plays a crucial role in supporting the success of learning processes at the elementary school level. This study aims to systematically examine the optimization of intellectual development in children through the implementation of appropriate instructional strategies. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted, analyzing five scholarly articles published between 2019 and 2024. The results indicate that instructional strategies such as contextual approaches, problem-based learning, the use of interactive media, and the creation of supportive learning environments have proven effective in fostering students’ logical, critical, and analytical thinking skills. The findings also highlight that teachers' understanding of children’s cognitive development stages is a key factor in designing suitable and effective learning experiences. The study concludes that aligning teaching methods with students’ intellectual development needs is essential for maximizing their learning potential in elementary education. The implication is that teachers must possess adaptive pedagogical competencies to create learning processes that are relevant and oriented toward cognitive development.

Abstract

The advancement of technology offers significant opportunities for developing effective training aids, including in the field of pencak silat. One crucial aspect of pencak silat is kick speed, which directly influences the effectiveness of an athlete’s offensive and defensive actions. This study aims to design and develop an automatic kick speed measurement device utilizing two Sharp distance sensors integrated with an Arduino UNO microcontroller and a Real Time Clock (RTC) module. The sensors are positioned in parallel at a distance of 30 cm, with the system initiating time measurement when the foot passes the first sensor and stopping when it passes the second. The recorded time and distance are used to calculate kick speed, which is displayed in real-time on an LCD screen. The device design follows the waterfall method, encompassing stages of analysis, design, implementation, and testing. Test results demonstrate that all input, control, and output subsystems function optimally and are capable of delivering accurate and automated measurements. The validity of the device was assessed using Aiken’s V method and confirmed to be suitable for use in pencak silat training. The study concludes that the developed kick speed measurement tool presents an innovative solution to support the objective, efficient, and technology-based evaluation of athlete performance.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of narratives about ṣāliḥ (pious) individuals in shaping the religious character of university students, particularly in the context of globalization and the overwhelming flow of digital information, which may trigger a crisis in spiritual and moral values. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations of religious activities, and documentation of digital Islamic content. The findings indicate that stories of ṣāliḥ individuals serve as effective media for instilling religious values, strengthening religious identity, and fostering positive behavior and motivation among students. Storytelling by lecturers and the use of social media were found to emotionally engage students, facilitating deeper internalization of moral messages. These narratives function as uswah ḥasanah (exemplary models) that are relevant and applicable to daily life. The study concludes that integrating stories of pious individuals into Islamic higher education learning and religious development programs plays a vital role in reinforcing students' religious character. The implication is that this approach can serve as a contextual moral education strategy that meaningfully addresses the affective domain.
