Abstract

In the digital era marked by rapid advancements in information technology, character formation among students faces increasingly complex and multidimensional challenges. Within this context, Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers hold a strategic role in instilling moral and spiritual values that serve as the foundational pillars of student character. This study aims to analyze the contribution of PAI teachers in educating the younger generation to develop strong character, noble conduct, and the ability to filter negative influences arising from digital developments. The method employed is descriptive-qualitative with a literature review approach. The findings indicate that the role of PAI teachers extends beyond that of mere instructors; they also serve as role models, mentors, and facilitators who integrate Islamic values with digital literacy skills. This integration enables character education through PAI to function as both a preventive and constructive instrument in shielding students from moral crises brought about by digitalization. Thus, PAI teachers become key agents in promoting value-based character education that is responsive to the dynamics of the digital age.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia has deep historical roots as a tool for liberation from colonialism and as a means of shaping national character, with Pancasila serving as both the state ideology and the primary philosophical foundation of the national education system. This article aims to examine the historical roots of Indonesian education, the central role of Pancasila in character formation, and the contemporary challenges in consistently and contextually integrating its values into the education system. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature review, this study explores various academic sources and educational policies to identify how Pancasila values are embedded in the curriculum and educational practices in the modern era. The findings reveal that although Pancasila has been normatively established as the foundation of the national education system, its implementation continues to face obstacles such as gaps in understanding, policy inconsistency, and the pressures of globalization and digitalization. The study concludes that strengthening Pancasila values requires the development of a contextually relevant curriculum, improvement in teacher quality, and synergy among the government, educational institutions, and society. Revitalizing Pancasila-based character education emerges as a key strategy in shaping a generation that is intellectually competent as well as morally and socially resilient in navigating the complexities of the modern world.

Abstract

Education is a fundamental element in shaping individual quality and determining one’s future direction. Beyond serving as a means to develop rational and critical thinking, education also plays a crucial role in achieving financial independence. However, not all children have equal opportunities to access formal education up to the desired level. School dropout remains a persistent issue that continues year after year and proves difficult to eradicate. The rising number of school dropouts has significant impacts, both at the individual and societal levels. Individuals who do not complete formal education often face difficulties in accessing employment opportunities and experience limitations in social and economic mobility, which can trap them in cycles of poverty. The causes of school dropout are complex, involving both internal and external factors. This article aims to analyze the social and economic implications of students’ decisions to leave school, as well as their ability to compete in a modern labor market that increasingly demands specific skills and qualifications. The study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach, drawing data from scholarly sources, journal articles, and relevant news reports. Thematic analysis is used to gain a deeper understanding of the socio-economic dynamics that underlie and influence school dropout decisions. Keywords:

Abstract

Access to education in remote areas of Indonesia continues to face various structural challenges, including geographical barriers, limited infrastructure, and unequal distribution of teaching personnel. In this context, the implementation of technology emerges as a potential solution to expand access and improve the quality of education in underdeveloped regions. This article aims to examine the role of technology in enhancing educational access in remote areas, while also identifying the challenges and opportunities associated with its implementation. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review method, analyzing scholarly sources related to educational technology, education policy, and development strategies in 3T regions (Tertinggal, Terdepan, and Terdekat – underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost areas). The findings indicate that technologies such as internet connectivity, digital learning platforms, educational radio and television broadcasts, the Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence have opened new pathways for learners in remote locations. However, the effectiveness of these technologies depends heavily on the readiness of digital infrastructure, levels of technological literacy, responsive affirmative policies, and stakeholder synergy. The article recommends strengthening locally based policies, improving digital literacy, fostering cross-sector collaboration, and developing contextual hybrid learning models as sustainable strategies to ensure equitable access to education.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology into primary school learning has become a central focus in contemporary education, responding to the rapid advancement of information technology. Technology functions not only as a supporting tool but also as a catalyst for pedagogical innovation, driving a shift from traditional teaching methods to more interactive and collaborative approaches. This study aims to examine the role of digital technology integration in enhancing the quality of primary education, particularly in terms of student motivation and academic achievement. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature review, the article explores relevant studies on the integration of educational technology at the primary school level. The findings indicate that the use of multimedia resources, such as e-books, instructional videos, and online learning platforms—enriches students’ learning experiences and expands access to instructional content. Despite challenges such as limited infrastructure and inadequate teacher training, the implementation of digital technology has generally contributed positively to increasing student motivation and academic performance. Therefore, the integration of digital technology in primary education should be supported through teacher capacity building, infrastructure development, and adaptive and sustainable education policies.

Abstract

Masjid Raya Syekh Ahmad Khatib Al-Minangkabawi in West Sumatra is a historic structure that exemplifies the acculturation between Islamic values and Minangkabau local culture. Serving as both a place of worship and a cultural symbol, the mosque features a façade rich in traditional Minangkabau carvings and Islamic calligraphy, each carrying philosophical and religious meaning. This study aims to analyze the placement patterns and visual meanings of the carved motifs and Islamic calligraphy on the façade of the mosque. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using literature review and visual analysis. The findings reveal that motifs such as Pucuak Rabuang, Siriah Gadang, Bungo Tanjuang, Kaluak Paku, as well as fauna and anthropomorphic motifs like Motif Bada, Rajo Tigo Selo, and Ninik Mamak, convey moral and social messages such as the pursuit of knowledge, leadership responsibility, and communal harmony. Meanwhile, Islamic calligraphy featuring phrases such as Allah, Muhammad Rasul Allah, and the Shahada (commonly rendered in Thuluth script) is strategically placed to reinforce messages of monotheism and spirituality. These findings demonstrate that the decorative elements serve not only aesthetic purposes but also function as a medium for conveying Islamic values and Minangkabau cultural identity. This research contributes to the preservation of Indonesia’s Islamic cultural heritage and offers valuable insights for developing contextual Islamic architectural design rooted in traditional values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the contributions of Mahmud Yunus to the modernization of Islamic education in Indonesia through a library research approach. Mahmud Yunus was a reformist figure who played a significant role in integrating Islamic values with modern scientific knowledge within the national education system. The study reveals that his educational thought encompassed the renewal of an integrated curriculum, the development of teaching methods that emphasize rational, spiritual, and practical dimensions, and the establishment of modern Islamic educational institutions. He also highlighted the crucial role of teachers in shaping students’ character and fostering a learning environment grounded in noble morals. The findings indicate that Mahmud Yunus’s ideas remain relevant as a foundation for developing Islamic education that is responsive to the challenges of modern times while upholding ilahiyah values as its core. This conclusion contributes theoretically to the discourse on Islamic education reform and offers practical implications for curriculum development and instructional strategies in contemporary Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

Most students at SMP Negeri 6 Payakumbuh are unfamiliar with the various traditional weapons of the Minangkabau culture, reflecting a lack of interest in local cultural content due to the unavailability of information media tailored to the characteristics and preferences of adolescents. This study aims to design an educational media based on a Trading Card Game (TCG) as an enjoyable and interactive tool for introducing Minangkabau traditional weapons to teenagers. The design approach integrates engaging visual elements, contextual narratives, and interactive features to create a meaningful and relevant learning experience. By adopting a modern game concept popular among adolescents, the TCG is expected to serve as an alternative learning medium that is not only informative but also entertaining, thereby enhancing students’ interest and understanding of local cultural heritage. The study concludes that visual game-based media such as TCG has strong potential as an effective strategy for preserving Minangkabau culture while reinforcing the cultural identity of the younger generation amid the challenges of modernization and globalization.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolutions 4.0 and 5.0, marked by advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI), have introduced new challenges to students’ academic integrity, particularly within UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, which is grounded in Islamic values. This study aims to holistically examine how students confront ethical dilemmas in AI usage and to assess how their scientific integrity is tested and shaped through the internalization of the values of amanah, sidq, and istiqamah. A descriptive qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design was employed, involving students, lecturers, and academic administrators through semi-structured interviews, academic documentation, and limited observation. The findings indicate that AI plays a dual role: on one hand, it supports learning efficiency and personalization; on the other, it poses risks of plagiarism and a decline in critical thinking motivation. Within the UIN Imam Bonjol context, Islamic values have proven to be a vital foundation in preserving and shaping students’ academic integrity amidst technological disruption. The study concludes by emphasizing the urgency of value-based education and character development as essential counterparts to technological advancement. The implications encourage Islamic higher education institutions to develop ethically grounded curricula and digital literacy strategies so that AI serves as a tool for character reinforcement rather than erosion.

Abstract

Listening is a fundamental language skill essential for effective comprehension and communication, and it must be mastered by students to support overall language learning. In the digital era, technology-based adaptive learning has emerged as an innovative approach capable of addressing individual learning needs in a more personalized manner. This article aims to theoretically and conceptually examine how the integration of technology into adaptive learning can enhance students’ listening skills. The method employed is a literature review with critical analysis of books, national and international journals, and other relevant sources. The findings indicate that the use of technologies such as adaptive learning applications, interactive media, and artificial intelligence has a significant impact on improving listening competence by tailoring instruction to students' individual learning styles, pace, and needs. These findings affirm that technology-based personalized learning not only increases student engagement but also strengthens the overall effectiveness of the listening instruction process. The implications of this review encourage the development of technology-oriented learning strategies aimed at reinforcing language skills, particularly listening within formal educational settings.
