Abstract

Students’ interest in continuing their studies to higher education is an important aspect of educational planning, particularly at the vocational secondary school level, which is oriented toward work readiness and career development. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-potential and motivation and interest in continuing studies to higher education among Grade XI and XII students of SMKS Semen Padang in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a correlational method. The research population consisted of 141 students, while a sample of 59 students was determined using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results show that there is a very strong and significant relationship between self-potential and motivation, with a correlation coefficient of 0.913 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Self-potential also has a very strong and significant relationship with interest in continuing studies to higher education, with a correlation coefficient of 0.893 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. In addition, motivation has a very strong and significant relationship with interest in continuing studies to higher education, with a correlation coefficient of 0.812 and a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Simultaneously, self-potential and motivation have a very strong and significant relationship with interest in continuing studies to higher education, with a multiple correlation coefficient (R) of 0.894 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.798. These findings indicate that 79.8% of interest in continuing studies can be explained by self-potential and motivation, while the remaining 20.2% is influenced by other factors outside this study. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that self-potential and motivation are internal factors that strongly contribute to students’ interest in continuing their studies to higher education. The implications of this study emphasize the important roles of schools, teachers, and families in developing students’ self-potential and increasing their motivation so that further education planning can be more optimal.

Abstract

Welding is one of the essential competencies that students in the Welding and Metal Fabrication Engineering Expertise Program must possess. However, the practical learning process still faces limitations in equipment facilities, both in terms of quantity and usability, requiring students to take turns using the equipment and making practice time less effective. This condition has the potential to affect students’ welding skill outcomes. This study aims to determine the effect of practical equipment facilities on the welding skill outcomes of Grade XI students in the Welding and Metal Fabrication Engineering Department at SMK Negeri 2 Payakumbuh. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The research population included all Grade XI students in the Welding and Metal Fabrication Engineering Department of SMK Negeri 2 Payakumbuh, totaling 55 students. The sample was determined using the total sampling technique, so the entire population was used as the research sample. Data were collected through a questionnaire to measure practical equipment facilities and an assessment rubric to measure students’ welding skills. Data analysis included prerequisite analysis tests, namely normality, linearity, and homoscedasticity tests, as well as hypothesis testing using simple linear regression, the t-test, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results show that practical equipment facilities do not have a significant effect on students’ welding skill outcomes, with a significance value of 0.318 > 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.019 indicates that practical equipment facilities can explain only 1.9% of the variation in students’ welding skill outcomes, while 98.1% is influenced by other factors outside this study. In addition, the direction of the relationship obtained is negative and not significant, with a regression coefficient value of -0.187. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that practical equipment facilities are not the main factor determining students’ welding skills; rather, other factors play a greater role, such as interest, motivation, theoretical understanding, and the learning process. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of a more comprehensive evaluation of practical learning by considering students’ internal factors and the quality of the vocational learning process.

Abstract

Studies on family, poverty, and social inequality in literary works have become a focus in various previous studies. However, research that specifically discusses the normalization of inequality in the representation of family in the novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu by J.S. Khairen remains limited. This study aims to analyze the representation of family and explain the forms of normalization of social inequality presented through the relationships, sacrifices, and life experiences of the characters. This study employed a qualitative approach with an analytical descriptive method and a sociology of literature design. The data source of this study was the novel Dompet Ayah Sepatu Ibu, while the research data consisted of narratives, dialogues, events, and symbols related to family and social inequality. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and were then analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The results show that family in the novel is represented as a space of affection as well as a space in which social inequality takes place. This inequality appears through economic limitations, the sacrifices of family members, children’s responsibilities, the limited roles of parents, and education as a hope for social mobility. These findings contribute to the development of sociology of literature studies, particularly in understanding the family as a space for the reproduction of social inequality. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that inequality within the family does not always appear as open conflict, but can be normalized through habits, sacrifice, and moral demands in everyday life.

Abstract

Moral values in literary works have become a focus in various previous studies, but discussions that specifically position moral values as a reflection of character formation in the novel Negeri 5 Menara remain limited. This study aims to describe the moral values in the novel Negeri 5 Menara by Ahmad Fuadi and to explain their relationship with the formation of the characters’ personalities. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design based on literary content analysis. The data source of this study was the novel Negeri 5 Menara, while the research data consisted of narratives, dialogues, and events containing moral values. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the dominant moral values include religiosity, devotion to parents, independence, discipline, hard work, friendship, sincerity, and responsibility. These values play a role in shaping the characters through family conflict, Islamic boarding school life, and friendship relationships. These findings enrich studies of prose appreciation and character education, particularly in understanding literary works as reflective media for the formation of moral values. The conclusion of the study emphasizes the importance of novels as a medium for literature learning that not only provides aesthetic experience but also instills moral values and character in readers.

Abstract

The representation of hope in literary works is an important issue because it relates to how texts depict human resilience in facing suffering, limitations, and the uncertainty of life. This study aims to describe the representation of hope in Menunggu Musim Kupu-Kupu by Adi Zamzam through a structural study. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design based on structural analysis. The data source of this study was the text Menunggu Musim Kupu-Kupu, while the research data consisted of narrative excerpts, dialogues, events, and symbols that represent hope. Data were collected through reading and note-taking techniques and were then analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, structural interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that hope is represented through the interrelationship of theme, characters and characterization, plot, setting, conflict, symbols, and message. The butterfly symbol becomes the dominant element that represents change, freedom, and the possibility of a new life. These findings contribute to the development of structural studies of Indonesian literature by emphasizing that intrinsic elements not only construct the story but also shape human meaning. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that hope in this work appears as an inner strength to survive and escape from oppressive situations.

Abstract

Social competence is an important aspect of adolescent development because it relates to the ability to establish relationships, adapt, and interact positively in the school environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between secure attachment and social competence among students of SMAN 5 Sarolangun. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research sample consisted of 122 students selected through the random sampling technique. Data were collected using a secure attachment scale and a social competence scale. The research instruments had undergone validity and reliability testing, with the validity coefficients of the secure attachment scale ranging from 0.341 to 0.628 and a reliability coefficient of 0.885, while the validity coefficients of the social competence scale ranged from 0.310 to 0.735 with a reliability coefficient of 0.907. The results show a very significant positive relationship between secure attachment and social competence (r = 0.582; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). These findings indicate that the higher the secure attachment possessed by students, the higher their social competence. In addition, secure attachment provides an effective contribution of 33.9% to social competence. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that secure attachment plays an important role in supporting adolescents’ social competence in the school environment. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of secure relational support between adolescents and significant figures to strengthen students’ social development.

Abstract

The low learning outcomes in Pancasila Education among Grade IV students at SDN 08 Baringin indicate the need to implement a more innovative, enjoyable, and student-centered learning model. This study aims to describe the improvement of students’ learning outcomes in Pancasila Education through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with qualitative and quantitative approaches, which was conducted in two cycles through the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were the teacher and 22 Grade IV students of SDN 08 Baringin, Agam Regency. The research data were obtained from observations of teaching modules, the implementation of learning in terms of teacher and student aspects, and learning outcomes. Data collection techniques used tests and non-tests. The results show an improvement from Cycle I to Cycle II. The average assessment of the teaching module increased from 85.4% with a good qualification (B) to 92% with a very good qualification (A). The implementation of learning in the teacher aspect increased from 76.78% with a good qualification (C) to 92.86% with a very good qualification (A), while the student aspect increased from 85.68% with a good qualification (B) to 92.42% with a very good qualification (A). Students’ learning outcomes also increased from an average score of 77.02 with a sufficient qualification (C) in Cycle I to 92 with a very good qualification (A) in Cycle II. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model can improve Pancasila Education learning outcomes among Grade IV students. The implications of this study indicate the importance of using problem-based learning models to encourage students’ activeness, engagement, and learning achievement in elementary schools.

Abstract

Although the relationship between education and power has received attention in various previous studies, studies that specifically discuss Madrasah Nizamiyah as a systematic instrument of state religious consolidation through critical sociological analysis remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the role of Madrasah Nizamiyah as an educational-political instrument of the Seljuk Dynasty in consolidating Sunni orthodoxy and building political legitimacy. This study used a qualitative-interpretive approach with a historical-sociological design. Textual data sources were selected deliberately through purposive sampling, including primary works such as Siyasatnama by Nizam al-Mulk and Al-Kamil fi al-Tarikh by Ibn al-Athir. Data were collected through documentation study and were then analyzed using content analysis and contextual analysis with the theoretical frameworks of Weber’s legitimacy theory and Bourdieu’s cultural capital. The results showed that the Madrasah Nizamiyah network functioned as a “bureaucratic factory” that effectively converted political capital into symbolic-religious authority through curriculum standardization, a sustainable waqf funding system, and the strategic recruitment of influential ulama such as al-Ghazali. These findings contribute to the development of studies on the sociology of Islamic education and expand understanding of the relationship between religion and the state in medieval Islamic civilization. The conclusion of this study confirms that the institutionalization of education played a crucial role in maintaining social stability and state hegemony. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the literature on social reproduction as well as practical recommendations for strengthening the independence of religious educational institutions through financial autonomy and curriculum integration in facing modern ideological challenges.

Abstract

Analysis of metal content in industrial chemicals has been widely studied, but research that specifically discusses the verification of the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method in determining iron (Fe) content in technical-grade hydrochloric acid according to national standards remains limited. This study aims to verify the feasibility of the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method in analyzing iron (Fe) content based on method validation parameters. This study employed a quantitative approach with a laboratory experimental design. The research sample consisted of technical-grade hydrochloric acid selected through the purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer and supporting laboratory equipment and were then analyzed using linear regression through a calibration curve, as well as testing of precision, accuracy, and recovery parameters. The results show that the method used had very good linearity, with an r² value of 0.9993, precision that met the criterion of %RSD < 2/3 Horwitz CV, and recovery values in the range of 89–104%, which were in accordance with the acceptance standards. These findings indicate that the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method is valid and feasible for use in analyzing iron content in technical-grade hydrochloric acid according to SNI 2557:2015. This study contributes to the development of spectrophotometry-based chemical analysis methods and broadens understanding of method verification in the context of industrial laboratories. The conclusion of the study emphasizes that method validation parameters play an important role in ensuring the accuracy of analytical results. The practical implication is that industrial laboratories need to consistently implement verification procedures to maintain the quality and reliability of testing results.

Abstract

Industrial wastewater is a by-product of production processes that generally has low quality because it contains various contaminants, including heavy metals, with types and concentrations depending on the characteristics of the industry that produces it. This study aims to analyze the content of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) metals in wastewater samples using the flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS) method. This study employed a quantitative approach with a laboratory experimental design. The analysis was conducted by preparing standard solutions to obtain calibration curves as the basis for determining metal concentrations in the samples. The results show that the calibration curves had very good linearity, with coefficient of determination (R²) values of 0.9989 for Cu and 0.9956 for Zn. The concentrations of Cu metal in the samples were -0.0599 ppm and -0.0647 ppm, respectively, while the concentrations of Zn were 0.0426 ppm and -0.0072 ppm, respectively. Negative values indicate that the metal concentrations were below the detection limit of the instrument. Based on these results, the Cu and Zn contents in the wastewater samples were still below the quality standards stipulated in Regulation of the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia Number 5 of 2014, so they did not indicate a significant level of pollution. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the flame AAS method is effective for analyzing heavy metals at low concentrations. The practical implication is that this method can be applied in monitoring industrial wastewater quality to support environmental pollution control.
