Abstract

Carbon Nanodots (C-Dots) from waste frying oil could be used as a photocatalyst in water purification with solar light irradiation. Performance of C-Dots as a photocatalyst was tested in the process of water purification with  a given synthetic sewage methylene blue. The tested was also conducted by comparing the performance C-Dots made from frying oil, waste fryng oil as a photocatalyst and solution of methylene blue without photocatalyst C-Dots. Performance of C-Dots from waste frying oil were estimated by the results of absorbance spectrum. The results of measurement absorbance spectrum from the process of water purification with photocatalyst C-Dots showed that the highest intensity at a wavelength 664 nm of methylene blue decreased. The test results showed that the performance of photocatalyst C- Dots from waste frying oil was better in water purification. This estimated that number of particles C-dots is more in waste frying oil because have experieced repeated the heating process so that the higher particles concentration make the photocatalyst process more effective. The observation of the performance C-Dots from waste frying oil as a photocatalyst in the water purification processes become important invention for solving the problems of waste and water purification.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of assertive communication techniques in cross-cultural counseling for reducing avoidance behavior among students experiencing interpersonal friendship conflicts. Cultural differences between counselors and clients may influence communication patterns, emotional expression, and conflict resolution processes during counseling sessions. Friendship conflicts among university students commonly arise from jealousy, misunderstanding, social comparison, and ineffective interpersonal communication. These conditions often encourage students to avoid direct interaction to prevent further conflict. This study employed an experimental method using a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The participants were students who experienced friendship conflicts and demonstrated avoidance behavior tendencies. Data were collected through counseling individual. The intervention was delivered through counseling sessions that used assertive communication techniques and combined behavioral and humanistic approaches in a cross-cultural counseling setting. The findings revealed that assertive communication techniques were effective in reducing students’ avoidance behavior. After receiving the intervention, participants demonstrated greater confidence in expressing opinions, improved emotional regulation, increased openness in communication, and healthier interpersonal relationships. The study indicates that assertive communication in cross-cultural counseling can serve as an effective counseling strategy to help students manage interpersonal conflicts and improve social adjustment in higher education environments.

Abstract

Social Studies (IPS) instruction in elementary schools often faces challenges such as low student participation, limited teaching methods, and minimal use of interactive learning media, all of which contribute to weak conceptual understanding and learning outcomes. This study aims to improve the quality of lesson planning, implementation, and student learning outcomes through the application of the Cooperative Learning Model of the Team Quiz type supported by interactive PowerPoint media, targeting fifth-grade students at SDN 10 Sumpur Kudus Selatan. The research employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) over two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data collection techniques included observation, documentation, and learning outcome tests, analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative descriptive methods. The results showed improvements in all aspects of learning. The average planning score increased from 74.95% (good) in Cycle I to 85.71% (very good) in Cycle II. Teacher activity improved from 76.35% to 83.3%, and student activity rose from 69.7% to 83.3%, both categorized as very good. The average student learning outcomes increased from 76.1% to 84.53%. These findings indicate that the Cooperative Team Quiz model supported by interactive PowerPoint is effective in enhancing student engagement, instructional quality, and Social Studies learning outcomes. The practical implication of this study highlights the importance of adopting innovative, technology-based learning models to foster active, enjoyable, and meaningful classroom environments while promoting student engagement and independence.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the reinforcement of religious moderation through Islamic Religious Education (IRE) and its contribution to fostering students’ social harmony in SMPN 12 Gresik, a multicultural secondary school in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study collected data through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving Islamic Religious Education teachers, students, and school administrators. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the reinforcement of religious moderation is implemented through the integration of values such as tolerance, respect for diversity, social cooperation, and inclusivity within both classroom learning and the broader school culture. Islamic Religious Education teachers play a pivotal role in cultivating students’ moderate religious attitudes through dialogical pedagogical practices and social role modeling. Furthermore, students’ social harmony is strengthened through open social interactions, an inclusive school environment, and collaborative activities that transcend religious and social differences. The study concludes that Islamic Religious Education serves as a strategic instrument for promoting religious moderation and fostering social cohesion within multicultural educational settings. These findings underscore the importance of integrating inclusive religious values into educational practices to support peaceful coexistence and strengthen intercultural understanding among students.
