Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on mathematical learning difficulties among third-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, particularly concerning the role of engaging and Islamic-value-based teaching approaches in enhancing interest, motivation, and fundamental mathematical understanding. The objective is to analyze the factors influencing learning difficulties in mathematics and to measure the effect of implementing an engaging teaching approach on students’ interest and comprehension in mathematics at MI Al Atfaliyyah. Employing a qualitative case study method, the research involved 27 purposively selected students identified as having learning difficulties. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of students’ learning outcomes, which were analyzed using thematic analysis and pattern matching. The findings reveal that engaging and contextual teaching approaches positively correlate with increased student interest and understanding in mathematics. The primary factors causing learning difficulties were weak mastery of basic concepts and mathematical formulas, alongside monotonous teaching methods. These results align with constructivist theory and contextual learning approaches emphasizing the active role of students in building understanding. The study concludes that integrating Islamic values into innovative mathematics teaching approaches is essential for creating enjoyable and meaningful learning experiences for Madrasah Ibtidaiyah students. The implications include enriching theoretical literature and the need for developing teaching strategies more relevant to the characteristics of madrasah learners.

Abstract

Loneliness can affect the way adolescents build and maintain social relationships, including in online interactions. This study aims to explain the relationship between loneliness and online friendship among adolescents in West Sumatra. A quantitative correlational approach was used, with a sample of 385 adolescents aged 15–19 years residing in West Sumatra, selected through convenience sampling. Participant criteria included having at least one online friend with whom they actively communicate via social media or instant messaging. The research instruments comprised a loneliness scale adapted into Indonesian by Gultom et al. (2024) and an online friendship scale developed by Ratri and Helmi (2023). Correlation analysis yielded an r value of 0.240 with a significance of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between loneliness and online friendship among adolescents in West Sumatra. These findings suggest that levels of loneliness are positively associated with adolescents’ involvement in forming online friendships and highlight the importance of considering digital-based social interventions for youth development.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the leadership strategies of madrasah principals in developing infrastructure and suprastructure, despite their significant impact on improving educational quality, particularly at Madrasah Aliyah Perguruan Mu’allimat. The objective is to analyze the leadership strategies employed by the madrasah principal in developing physical facilities and strengthening organizational management systems. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research involved one purposively selected madrasah. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the madrasah principal effectively applies participative and visionary leadership strategies in managing the development of infrastructure and suprastructure. These strategies reflect transformational leadership characteristics, emphasizing the leader’s role as a role model and motivator. In conclusion, the madrasah principal plays a central role in fostering communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance educational quality. The study’s implications include theoretical contributions to the literature on Islamic educational leadership and practical recommendations for madrasah administrators to strengthen leadership capacity and resource management. Additionally, the research opens opportunities for further studies on the relationship between leadership and the sustainability of madrasah development.

Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking ability is an essential competence for elementary school students to face real-world challenges that require problem-solving skills and in-depth analysis. This study aims to analyze the effect of the RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create) learning model assisted by animated video media on improving elementary students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent group was employed. The study was conducted at a public elementary school in Purwakarta Regency, involving two fifth-grade classes: class VC as the experimental group (23 students) and class VA as the control group (23 students). The experimental class used the RADEC model assisted by animated videos, while the control class employed the Discovery Learning model. Results show that the RADEC model assisted by animated video media contributed 22.3% to the improvement of students’ mathematical critical thinking ability. The average score increased from 51.65 to 79.13, with the N-Gain categorized as moderate, whereas the control class showed a low-level improvement. The study concludes that the RADEC model assisted by animated videos is more effective than the Discovery Learning model in enhancing elementary students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Arts education plays a vital role in shaping individuals who are creative, possess aesthetic sensitivity, and demonstrate social and cultural awareness. This study aims to explore how teaching methods in Cultural Arts and Crafts (Seni Budaya dan Prakarya, SBDP) foster students’ artistic creativity at MI Salafiyah Kajen. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that teachers utilize three main methods in SBDP instruction: lecture, demonstration, and project creation. The lecture method conveys fundamental concepts, demonstration illustrates artistic techniques, and the project creation method encourages students to produce projects that sharpen skills and stimulate creativity. This combination of methods proved effective in nurturing students’ artistic creativity across ideas, techniques, and final works. The study concludes that a contextual and student-centered teaching strategy can optimally develop artistic potential. The implication is that teachers should continuously refine learning approaches that encourage creative exploration to support the formation of aesthetic and innovative character traits in students.

Abstract

Low student interest and understanding of Arabic language lessons present major challenges in secondary education, necessitating innovative learning media that can enhance student engagement and motivation. This study aims to describe the implementation of the interactive learning media Kahoot! in Arabic language instruction at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Nganjuk. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving teachers and eleventh-grade students. The findings reveal that Kahoot! is used as an evaluation and reinforcement tool following conventional instruction. Supporting factors include school policies endorsing digital device use and the availability of Wi-Fi networks. Conversely, obstacles encountered involve limited internet connectivity and unequal access to devices among students. The study concludes that Kahoot! effectively increases student participation and motivation in Arabic language learning. The implications highlight the need to strengthen digital infrastructure and enhance teacher capacity to optimize the use of technology-based interactive learning media across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

Conserved Javanese manuscripts hold a wealth of visual richness and aesthetic value that remains largely unexplored, particularly in the illuminative elements which serve not only as decoration but also as illustrative support to the textual content. This study aims to propose an invitation card design inspired by the illuminations found in ancient manuscripts, as a form of cultural adaptation within the creative industry. The research employs a descriptive-qualitative method and content analysis. The primary object of study is the illumination in the manuscript Serat Jayalengkara Wulang, codex Add MS 12310, housed in the British Library. The adaptation process comprises five stages: (1) selection of illumination elements, (2) redrawing using the Procreate application, (3) stylization for form simplification, (4) layout arrangement for the invitation design, and (5) final rendering for production purposes. The end product is a market-ready digital invitation design, available for e-commerce distribution. This study demonstrates that Javanese manuscript illuminations can be creatively adapted as visual elements that hold both aesthetic and historical value, while also enhancing product appeal within the creative industry. The findings open new possibilities for utilizing intangible cultural heritage, which has traditionally focused more on script than on visual elements such as illumination.

Abstract

Low learning outcomes among fourth-grade students in integrated thematic learning at SD Negeri 035 Pintu Padang Jae, Mandailing Natal Regency, indicate the need for more effective and participatory learning strategies. This study aims to describe improvements in student learning outcomes through the implementation of the Discovery Learning model on Theme 8 Subtheme 3. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design with qualitative and quantitative approaches, conducted over two cycles comprising planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects included the teacher and 22 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observations, tests, and non-test instruments, including observation sheets, test questions, and attitude journals. The results showed significant improvements in lesson planning from 86.10% to 97.22%, teacher activity from 82.81% to 93.75%, student activity from 81.25% to 90.62%, and learning outcomes with average scores increasing from 78.50 (adequate) to 89.82 (good). The findings conclude that the Discovery Learning model is effective in enhancing the quality of the learning process and student outcomes. The implication is that this model can serve as an alternative learning strategy to foster active involvement and independent understanding in integrated thematic learning.

Abstract

The limited number of studies on robotics extracurricular management in madrasahs serves as the background of this research, despite the significant impact such activities have on enhancing students’ non-academic achievements. This study aims to examine the management of robotics extracurricular programs in supporting non-academic performance at MTsN 13 Jombang. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving research subjects including the principal, vice principal for student affairs, the robotics extracurricular coordinator, and students, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The findings indicate that robotics extracurricular management at MTsN 13 Jombang is carried out systematically through the stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation. The program begins with student recruitment, internal competitions, and regular training held every Friday, with intensified sessions prior to competitions. Evaluation is conducted in two phases, before and after the competitions to identify weaknesses that require improvement. Challenges encountered include limited facilities and constrained training time. The study concludes that well-structured extracurricular management plays a crucial role in developing students’ interests, talents, and skills, thereby enhancing non-academic achievement. The implications involve strengthening the managerial capacity of madrasahs and offering practical recommendations to extracurricular coordinators for improving the effectiveness and sustainability of robotics programs.

Abstract

The low level of students' understanding of Fiqih in Grade VIII at MTsN 11 Jombang is the primary issue addressed in this study. This issue is influenced by internal factors such as differences in intelligence, as well as external factors including out-of-school habits that affect learning concentration. The objective of this research is to examine the implementation of the TANDUR method, supported by the Buzz Group model, in enhancing students' comprehension, and to evaluate the impact of its application. A qualitative approach was employed using a case study method, with data collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The findings indicate that the implementation of the TANDUR method which includes the stages of Tumbuhkan, Alami, Namai, Demonstrasi, Ulangi, and Rayakan, combined with small-group discussions (Buzz Group), significantly improved students’ conceptual understanding of Fiqih. The learning process became more active, collaborative, and engaging, encouraging students to think critically, express ideas, and engage in interactive learning with their peers. The study concludes that the TANDUR method, assisted by the Buzz Group model, is effective in improving the quality of Fiqih instruction. Its implication suggests that this approach can be adopted by Islamic education teachers as an innovative and collaborative strategy aligned with the characteristics and learning needs of today’s students in the madrasah context.
