Abstract

This study examines the impact of leadership style and work environment on employee performance at the Aloft Bali Seminyak Hotel. Employee performance plays a crucial role in the success of any company, particularly in the hospitality industry, where service quality directly affects customer satisfaction and business outcomes. A good leadership style and a positive work environment can significantly enhance employee performance, while poor leadership and work conditions can detract from it. The study utilized a quantitative approach, collecting data from 42 respondents through questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale to assess 49 statement items. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, t-test, f-test, and the coefficient of determination, processed with SPSS version 26 for Windows. The results show that leadership style and work environment together explain 61% of the variance in employee performance, with the remaining 39% influenced by factors not explored in this study. The findings reveal that both leadership and work environment have a significant positive effect on employee performance. Effective leadership, characterized by support, motivation, and clear communication, boosts job satisfaction and productivity. Similarly, a conducive work environment, including appropriate work conditions and teamwork, contributes to enhanced employee engagement and performance. This study highlights the importance of leadership style and a supportive work environment in driving employee performance in the hospitality sector. It suggests that hotel management should prioritize leadership development and create a positive work environment to improve employee outcomes, which in turn can enhance the overall success of the organization.

Abstract

This study examines the resilience and recovery of the Arab Tourism Village in Gresik, focusing on the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the strategies implemented for post-pandemic recovery. The village, renowned for its Arab Kampong in Gapurosukolilo, is home to the graves of the first harbor master and the first regent of Gresik, which have become significant cultural heritage and pilgrimage tourism sites. However, during the pandemic, tourism in the area was severely affected, with a significant decline in visitor numbers and a substantial reduction in the local community's income.  Using a qualitative historical approach, the research analyzes documents and interviews regarding the impact of the pandemic and the subsequent efforts to recover. The findings indicate that the pandemic served as a critical period for reflection and adaptation in the village's tourism sector. Strategies focused on improving health and safety standards, promoting virtual religious tourism experiences, and developing new marketing initiatives. The village embraced the processes of rethink, rebuild, and restart, leading to the implementation of strategic programs aimed at helping the community navigate the post-Covid-19 era effectively.  The urgency of this study lies in understanding how the pandemic can be used as an opportunity to rethink and rebuild sustainable tourism models for cultural and religious destinations. The novelty of the research is its focus on the Arab Tourism Village in Gresik, offering insights into how a historical, culturally rich area can adapt to the challenges of the post-pandemic tourism landscape. This study contributes to the broader discourse on tourism recovery, providing valuable lessons for similar religious and cultural tourism destinations.

Abstract

This study analyzes the legal protection for tourists participating in rafting activities at Alam Tirta Outbound, in accordance with the provisions outlined in Law Number 10 of 2009 concerning Tourism. The research uses a normative juridical approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, alongside qualitative analysis of relevant regulations. Adventure tourism, particularly rafting, involves inherent risks, making the protection of tourists a significant concern for operators.  The findings reveal that Alam Tirta Outbound complies with the applicable legal provisions by providing insurance protection for tourists, covering risks related to accidents during rafting. Additionally, the site has established clear medical handling procedures, including the availability of First Aid in Accident (P3K) equipment and access to nearby health facilities for swift responses to incidents. The management also enforces strict safety standards, including regular inspections of river conditions and rafting equipment. These measures demonstrate a high level of commitment to protecting tourists' rights and fulfilling legal obligations in managing risky tourism activities.  While the study confirms Alam Tirta Outbound’s compliance with legal requirements, it also highlights that gaps remain in broader enforcement, such as the need for more comprehensive tourist education on risks and rights. The urgency of the study lies in the necessity to ensure consistent enforcement of safety protocols across the industry. This research contributes to tourism law by identifying practical challenges in applying legal protections in adventure tourism, offering recommendations to enhance legal frameworks and improve safety standards for tourists.

Abstract

Kampoeng Lama Village in Pantai Labu District, Deli Serdang Regency, has faced a decline in its image and tourism sustainability following a fire incident at the Paloh Naga Agrotourism site. This incident has negatively impacted the village's attractiveness and overall tourism potential. This study investigates the rebranding of Kampoeng Lama as a sustainable tourism destination through community empowerment. Employing a qualitative descriptive method with a field study approach, data were collected through interviews with key stakeholders, including the heads of the village-owned enterprise (BUMDes) and the tourism community empowerment group (Pokdarwis), along with observations and documentation. The findings reveal critical challenges, such as insufficient promotion, a weakened agrotourism image, and inadequate tourism facilities. To address these issues, a rebranding strategy centered on community empowerment is proposed. Key initiatives include engaging the younger generation in programs like the "Child of Seven Charm" (ASAP) and ecobrick activities to promote environmental awareness, improving tourism infrastructure, creating an integrated tourism map, and optimizing digital platforms such as social media and the Paloh Naga Agrotourism website. These efforts not only restore the village’s image but also increase its visibility and tourist appeal. The urgency of this research lies in the need to revitalize Kampoeng Lama’s tourism potential and address the socio-economic challenges following the decline in its image. The novelty of this study is its focus on a community-driven rebranding approach that integrates environmental awareness and modern marketing strategies. This research contributes a replicable model for restoring and sustaining tourism in rural destinations, ensuring economic growth, environmental preservation, and cultural resilience.

Abstract

The declining understanding and interest in historical studies among the millennial generation is a growing concern. Tourism has the potential to serve as a medium for enhancing historical comprehension, with the Trowulan site—an archaeological relic of the Majapahit Kingdom in Mojokerto Regency, East Java—offering a prime example. This study aims to analyze the activities and benefits of tourism based on historical heritage sites like Trowulan. A qualitative research method was employed, using a historical and descriptive-interpretative approach. Data were collected through literature reviews, field observations, and interviews conducted on-site. The findings indicate four key benefits millennial visitors gain from tourism activities at Trowulan: discovering physical evidence of the Majapahit Kingdom; increasing knowledge of Majapahit history through storytelling at the site; gaining new insights into Indonesia’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage; and fostering a deeper appreciation of the unique architectural achievements of Indonesia’s ancestors. The urgency of this study lies in addressing the declining interest among younger generations in cultural and historical education, which threatens the preservation of Indonesia's rich heritage. The novelty of this research is its focus on millennial visitors and its exploration of innovative strategies, such as integrating storytelling and interactive activities, to engage this demographic. This study contributes to the academic literature on heritage tourism by providing insights into the role of historical sites in promoting cultural and educational values. Practically, it offers actionable recommendations for tourism stakeholders to develop creative programs that ensure the sustainability and relevance of cultural heritage sites like Trowulan for future generations.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of tourism experience on revisit intention, with satisfaction and trust as mediating variables, at the Kintamani tourist destination in Bali. Using questionnaires distributed to 133 tourists who had visited Kintamani and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS), the research reveals that tourism experience has significant positive effects on revisit intention, satisfaction, and trust. Satisfaction and trust also positively and significantly influence revisit intention, mediating the relationship between tourism experience and revisit intention. Among various aspects of tourism experience, authenticity, hospitality, and service quality are identified as key drivers in building trust and satisfaction. The novelty of this research lies in its exploration of the dual mediating roles of trust and satisfaction, which are often overlooked in previous studies on revisit behavior. It also emphasizes the unique cultural and environmental attributes of Kintamani, offering specific insights for managing similar tourism destinations. The study highlights the urgency of enhancing visitor retention to support Kintamani's economic and cultural sustainability, especially in the face of global tourism challenges. It contributes to the literature by providing an integrated framework for understanding how tourism experiences shape revisit intention through trust and satisfaction. Practically, the research suggests maintaining Kintamani’s natural beauty, improving service quality, providing staff training, and focusing on visitor satisfaction to enhance trust and long-term loyalty. These findings serve as strategic guidelines for sustainable tourism development in Kintamani and similar destinations worldwide.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of location, service quality, and price perception on tourists' revisit intention at Klayar Beach, Pacitan, East Java. A quantitative survey method was employed, involving 350 respondents who had visited Klayar Beach more than once. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The analysis revealed that all three variables significantly and positively influenced revisit intention, with service quality being the dominant factor. The findings contribute to the management of natural tourism by providing insights into the factors affecting tourists' revisit intentions. This research is crucial for tourism managers, particularly for Klayar Beach, to formulate effective management and marketing strategies aimed at increasing repeat visits. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the specific factors influencing revisit intention in a popular natural destination, offering practical recommendations for improving visitor retention and satisfaction.

Abstract

Walahar Village, located as an entrance to Pantura and an alternative route to Central Java or Jakarta, holds significant potential for the development of traditional culinary tourism, particularly through its Pepes dishes. The village is also home to the Walahar Dam, a popular tourist destination built by the Dutch, making it an attractive location for both historical and culinary tourism. This paper aims to determine the best strategy to develop Pepes-based culinary tourism in Walahar Village, using SWOT analysis to explore the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats involved.   The study identifies several key strategies for regional development. These include producing content to promote traditional village food, culinary techniques, and production processes, and encouraging local government involvement in creating signage to guide visitors. Additionally, the creation of an icon connected to Walahar Village’s Pepes culinary heritage, potentially through "Instagrammable" features, is crucial to attract younger tourists who engage with visual content on social media. The research also highlights the importance of leveraging electronic media and the internet, including developing websites and social media platforms to enhance promotion and visibility. By incorporating these strategies, the development of Pepes culinary tourism in Walahar Village can capitalize on its rich cultural heritage and its position as a popular travel route, boosting local tourism and economic growth. The findings suggest a comprehensive approach that combines community involvement, infrastructure improvement, and digital marketing to successfully promote Walahar’s culinary offerings while ensuring sustainable tourism development.
