Abstract

The objectives of this research is to describe the process of teaching writing recount texts by using diary, to find out the teacher’s problem sand students’ responses toward using diary. The research employs a descriptive qualitative research. Findings show the use of diary in teaching writing recount text could help and develop students’ writing. The teacher explained and instructed in procedural teaching practice to diary usage. However, the problems were limited time at the activities and lack of the teacher’s knowledge. Generally, the use of diary gave a creativity both the teacher and students and made students motivated in learning writing. Thus, diary is one of effective ways to express the students’ ideas in writing because they can tell prior activities or experiences happened.

Abstract

Abstract This research aimed to analyze errors in order to obtain kinds, differences and causes of error between male and female students in changing active to passive voice. Sample of this research was the twelfth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Lubuklinggau. The method of the research was qualitative descriptive research. The researcher used test and interview as the technique to collect the data. In analyzing the data, the researcher used four steps were: first, collecting the data, second is identifying the data, third, describing data and finally, the researcher explains the data. The results showed that there are four kinds of error made by male students in changing active to passive are; Misformation errors with 68.84%, Misordering 21.34% Omission 8.70%, and Addition 0.72%. On the other hand, there are only 3 kinds of error made by female students are; Misformation error 53.47%, Misordering 29.37%, Omission 17.16%. From the result of written test, the differences between male and female students in changing active to passive voice is male students tend to make more error than female students. In addition, the researcher found three causes of error made by male and female students in this analysis namely; interlingual transfer, intralingual transfer and communication strategies. In conclusion, this research showed that there are 4 kinds of error and 3 causes of errors between male and female students, and male students tend to make more errors than female students in changing active to passive voice. Abstract

Abstract The problem in this research was “How was the ability of students in writing descriptive text?” and “What were the difficulties faced by students in writing descriptive text?” The objective of this research was to describe the ability of students in writing descriptive text and to describe the difficulties faced by students in writing descriptive text. This research used quantitative method to and data collected in write descriptive text. The population in this research was all the eighth grade students of SMPN 7 Lubuklinggau. The sample of this research was VIII.2 considered 27 students who taken class by using random sampling. Based on the result of the writing descriptive text at the eighth grade students of SMPN 7 Lubuklinggau was in (failed category). The mean score of students was 61. There were 5 students(18%) on Very Good category, 5 students on (18%) Good category, 1 student (4%) on Nearly Good category, 8 students on (30%) Sufficient category, and the last 8 students on (30%) Nearly Sufficient category. It means that the ability of students in writing descriptive text was categorized into Nearly Good, and their ability was categorized into failed (the students’ score were lower than KKM 61< 68). In conclusion, the biggest difficulties faced by students were about grammar, and organizing the ideas. Keywords: Descriptive Text, Difficulties in writing, Students’ Ability

Abstract

“This Far from Paradise” is all about a feisty young woman who fights to regain control of her dead father's Caribbean empire. Max McHenry is a grizzled old prospector straight out of Treasure of the Sierra Madre when he makes a fabulous gold strike and shrewdly builds a financial empire on it, becoming practically king of a group of Caribbean islands called the Angelines. In the novel entitled “This Far from Paradise” written by Philip Shelby, the writer wants to find the way how the characters show their role to give the reader the meaning of the novel, how the story goes. The research methodology is the qualitative method. There are some steps done by the writer in doing the research. Firstly, the writer reads the novel by Philip Shelby which entitled “This Far from Paradise”, and tries to understand its content. Secondly, the writer reads some other references that are related to the study. Furthermore, the writer applies the psychoanalysis theory of personality by Sigmund Freud concerning trauma, anxiety, and the defense mechanism.

Abstract

This research article is aimed at knowing how much Kupang Malay this one boy has acquired after living in Kupang. To answer the question mentioned above, the writer used the descriptive method, the subject of this research was one young boy who came to Kupang to continue his study and can not speak Kupang Malay at all. Abstract

This article analyzes women’s freedom in Alice Hoffman's The Red Garden. There are four characters analyzed, namely, Hallie Brady, Mary Starrs, Emily, and Hannah Partridge. Using the theory of liberal feminism as well as descriptive and dramatic method, the researcher finds that all the characters mentioned above gets their freedom through their efforts, respectively.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the types of moral value of “The Boy who Harnessed the Wind”. The objective of this research was to describe moral value based on Linda and Eyre’s theory occured in the movie “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind”. The method of the research was descriptive qualitative. The technique for collecting the data was library research. The researcher used movie of sources applied in this thesis. The primary source obtained the movie of “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind movie”. The secondary source obtained from the books or articles related to the theories. In this research, the researcher found some moral values which were found consist of the value of being and the value of giving; the value of being 7 scenes were found and 9 scenes value of giving. The value of being consists of 1 scene of honesty, 2 scenes of courage, 1 scene of peacebility, 2 scenes of self-reliance and potential, and 1 scene of self-discipline and moderation. The value of giving consists of 1 scene of respect, 1 scene of love, 2 scenes of loyalty, 2 scenes of unselfishness, 2 scenes of kindness and friendliness, and 1 scene of justice and mercy. In conclusion, “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” movie contains all aspects of moral value. Keywords: Moral Value, Movie, Analysis

Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy at the tenth grade students of SMAN Raksa Budi. However the population and sample in this research were 32 Students (X IPA1) who were collected by using a purposive sampling technique. The research used a pre-exsperimental method. The pre-exsperimental class had given the treatments by using the Think-talk-write (TTW) strategy. The result shows as follow: first, the score point pre-test showed that the average score 55.6. After given the treatments the post-test was given. The score in the post-test result showed the average score was 75.87. However the result of the paired t-test taccount 12.6 while ttable 1.695. It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. In the order word, it can be announced that theThink-Talk-Write (TTW) Strategy were effective to used by students to write descriptive paragraphs. Therefore, it was significantly effective to use Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy to teach writing skill at the tenth grade students of SMAN Raksa Budi in academic year 2022/2023.

Abstract

Movies are identical to characters. If the characters in a film are less interesting in terms of storyline, then the audience's interest will also decrease. Therefore it is important to have a character that describes the character's personality. The film SouthPaw (2015) features the main character with the theme of boxing sports with a character who loves his family and has to lose his beloved wife. This study aims to analyze a movie from the SouthPaw film about the personality of the main character, Billy Hope. The data used in this study is from the film itself which can be watched on the HBO application or other free official sites by telling the life of a boxer who has a dark life story. Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out An Analysis of EFL Teachers’ Pedagogic Competence in teaching English at SMP Negeri 8 Lubuklinggau. However, the research was conducted at SMPN 8 Lubuklinggau and the time of this research was carried out on Augustus’ 2023. The researcher was chosen by using total sampling there were 2 English teachers in SMPN 8 Lubuklinggau. In this research, the researcher held on the observation in the first meeting in class, and last the researcher conducted an interview and given a questionnaire with two English teachers to know the teacher's pedagogical competence in teaching English at the seventh grade of SMPN 8 Lubuklinggau. However, the data was conducted by observation, interview and questionnaire. Based on the observation in general the teacher has done the criteria of pedagogical competence. Meanwhile, some steps were missing, in the data of the interview result and the questionnaire it also can be seen that English teacher A and B has good pedagogical competence.
