Abstract

Teaching reading is not easy for EFL learner, students quick bored because they less vocabulary so difficult to get the point, so the teacher must has strategies in teaching. This article shares how should do teacher’s teach reading comprehension using the think pair share technique. The strategies in this method create the students’ interaction between teacher and students to be active.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out students' ability in writing English texts. This study used the descriptive qualitative method and data collected in writing analytical exposition text. The population in this study was the eleventh-grade students of MAN 2 Lubuklinggau. The subject of this study was XI IPA 4 considered 32 students who took a class by using purposeful sampling. Based on the result of the writing analytical exposition text the eleventh-grade students of MAN 2 Lubuklinggau were in “Good Criteria”. The writer used five elements of writing for analyzing students’ ability in writing English text. First was students’ ability in content, there were 14 students with “Very Good”, 16 students with “Good”, and 2 students with “Fair”. Second was students’ ability in organization, there were 11 students “Very Good”, 19 students “Good”, and 2 students “Fair”. Third was students’ ability in vocabulary, there were 3 students with “Very Good”, 15 students with “Good”, and 14 students with “Fair”. Fourth was students’ ability in language use, there were 26 students “Very Good” and 6 students “Good”. Fifth was students’ ability in mechanics, there were 22 students “Very Good” and 10 students “Good”.

Abstract

The problem in this study is "How is the ability of students to write descriptive text?" The purpose of this study was to describe the abilities of students in writing descriptive text. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method for data collected in writing descriptive text. The population in this study is all class XI students of SMAN 5 Lubuklinggau. The sample of this research is XI F4, totalling 35 students who were taken by class using random sampling. Based on the results of writing descriptive text in class XI students of SMAN 5 Lubuklinggau are included in the failed category. The average value of students is 57. There are 4 students (13%) "Very Good", 7 students (24%) are in the "Good" category, 8 students (27%) are included in the "Medium" category, 10 students (34%) are in the "Moderate" category. It means that the student's ability to write descriptive text is included in the failed category. In conclusion, the ability of students to write descriptive texts is still not very good about grammar, vocabulary and grammar.

Abstract

This study aims to find out what difficulties hinder students from speaking English in the English study program, at PGRI Silampari University. This research uses qualitative research with a descriptive qualitative research design. The 23 students who participated in this study were selected based on a sample of second-semester students in the English language education study program at PGRI Silampari University. The questionnaire consists of 15 questions consisting of questions and statements used to collect data. Data analysis shows that there are a number of problems speaking English in the English language education study program caused by several inhibiting factors such as internal factors, external factors, the school system, environment and learning community. Speaking English in the English language education study program cannot be carried out without solving the problems of the inhibiting factors. So it can be concluded that speaking English will be effective and efficient if students and lecturers always speak English with each other and can make some discipline or give sanctions such as giving bad grades, and so on. To be obeyed to speak English in the English language education study program, PGRI Silampari University.

Abstract

This study was about an analysis of toxic relationship representation between the main characters in It Ends with Us novel by Colleen Hoover. This study would answer the question “What kind of toxic relationship form experienced by the main character in It Ends with Us novel by Colleen Hoover. By answering the question the writer would know what kind of toxic relationship was found in the novel. The writer used descriptive qualitative research. The object of the study was a novel entitled It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover. The instrument of this study was the writer herself as the human instrument key. In collecting the data, the writer read the novel highlighted and underlined those sentences and quotations from the novel and the last rewrote them in another book. In analyzing the data, the writer identified the data, categorized and classified all data in the novel, reduced the data, and described and interpreted the data. There is a point explained in the novel. The writer found about Toxic Relationship in the novel and it is divided into seven parts. Deprecator Belittler, the Bad Temper Toxic Partner, the Guilt Inducer, the Overreacted, the Dependent Partner, the Independent Toxic Controller and the Possessive Toxic Controller.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out whether or not it is significantly effective to teach speaking by using describing picture strategy to the seventh-grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Qur’aniah Mataram. The researcher used a Pre-Experimental design. The researcher used a performance test in the form of an oral test. The data were collected by using Brown's theory. The findings of this study are that significantly effective in teaching speaking by using the describing picture strategy to the seventh-grade students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Qur'aniah Mataram.

Abstract

This research aimed (1) to find out the difficulty of speaking English based on gender at SMP IT An-Nida' Lubuklinggau and (2) to find out the causes of difficulty speaking English based on gender at SMP IT An-Nida' Lubuklinggau. This research used the qualitative descriptive method. The subjects in this study were classes VIII.1 and VIII.2 with the purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques include questionnaires and interviews. In data analysis techniques, researchers use three steps: 1) data reduction, 2) data display, and 3) conclusion. The results of this research showed that most of the respondents experienced difficulties speaking English. (1) difficulties in pronunciation, lack of grammar, difficulty to memorize vocabulary, and their English is not very fluent. (2) Furthermore, the causes of students' difficulties from the research are lack of confidence, anxiety, fear of speaking, embarrassment to speak in front of the class, fear of speaking English incorrectly, and fear of making mistakes. difficulties in speaking English based on gender (1) Most females have difficulties in pronunciation, while (2) males have difficulties in grammar and vocabulary. From the results of the questionnaires, the scores of female students were 14,28% while the score of male students 66,66% of students had difficulty speaking English.. This indicates that male students are more difficult to speak English than female students.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to identify the types of Indoglish and to describe the factors of using Indoglish on Instagram captions. In this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method and the data was collected through documentation and observation. The data were analyzed by using Farihah and Suhartono's study of types of English. The factors of using Indoglish were analyzed using Holmes's theory. The findings of this study indicate that 1) there were two types of Indoglish including a) Indonesian elements in foreign languages, namely phoneme appearance, word addition b) Foreign Elements in Indonesian, namely adoption, and translation with classification into several categories including; Indoglish language translation form of verbs category, Indoglish language translation form of nouns category, Indoglish language translation form of adjective category, Indoglish language translation form of adverbs category, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 2 (two) words, and Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 3 (three) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 4 (four) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 5 (five) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 6 (six) words, Indoglish language translation forms phrase category 7 (seven) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 8 (eight) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 9 (nine) words, Indoglish language translation forms of phrase category 10 (ten), Indoglish language translation forms of clause categories and Indoglish language translation forms of sentence categories. 2) The factors of using Indoglish in the Instagram caption by Indonesian female singers found there were four, namely the solidarity-social distance scale, the status scale, the formality scale, and the referential and affective function scale.

This article to know the benefit of teaching English by role playing technique for English Foreign Language Learner. This research designed in qualitative approach with library research method. The collecting data by using documenter of article and book both online and printing. The result that Learning English for EFL learners is crucial for personal, academic, and professional growth. It fosters global citizenship, cultural understanding, and innovation, enabling sustainable development. The role-playing technique fosters student motivation and engagement, fostering a dynamic learning environment. Embracing innovative strategies like role-playing helps educators create active, motivated, and empathetic learners ready for the 21st century.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the reading ability of class II students at SD Negeri 25 Lubuklinggau. The methods used in this research are descriptive research methods and qualitative research methods. The data sources for this research are class II students and teachers at SD Negeri 25 Lubuklinggau. The data collection techniques used are observations and questionnaires. This research data analysis includes stages consisting of data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. Of the 18 class II students at SD Negeri 25 Lubuklinggau, 4 students, namely PT, RP, FAG and ME, experienced problems in the realm of reading. The problems experienced are: recognizing letters and distinguishing letters of the alphabet, spelling words, being lazy about reading texts to find answers and also lack of interest in reading both at school and at home.
