Abstract

This study investigates teacher strategies in fostering students' learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education and Character (Pendidikan Agama Islam dan Budi Pekerti/PAI) at SMP Negeri 9 Muaro Jambi. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through passive participatory observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving the PAI teacher, class VII A students, and the school principal. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, and validity was ensured through source, technique, and time triangulation. Findings revealed that students' learning motivation in PAI varied considerably, with several indicators of low engagement identified across the class. The teacher applied five principal strategies to address this condition: provision of rewards and verbal praise, use of varied and engaging instructional methods, individualized attention and personal guidance, creation of a conducive and spiritually positive learning atmosphere, and moral guidance through exemplary conduct (uswatun hasanah). Supporting factors included school institutional culture, positive peer dynamics, and teacher competence, while inhibiting factors encompassed knowledge heterogeneity, limited media resources, student fatigue, and insufficient parental engagement.

Abstract

Public communication is an important element in governance because it affects public participation, policy legitimacy, and public accountability. However, the study of DPRD public communication in the entire cycle of implementing community welfare programs is still relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the public communication of the Bulukumba Regency DPRD at the planning, implementation, and reporting and evaluation stages of community welfare programs. The research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving leaders and members of the DPRD, legislative bodies, related commissions, and other stakeholders. Data analysis uses the interactive model Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña which includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that at the planning stage, public communication is carried out through recess, hearings, working visits, and public consultations that allow people's aspirations to be accommodated in regional policies, including Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2016 concerning CSR. At the implementation stage, public communication functions as a means of coordination and supervision between the DPRD, local governments, OPDs, and the community. Meanwhile, at the reporting and evaluation stage, public communication is realized through the discussion of the APBD accountability report, evaluation of budget realization, and follow-up on audit results. This study concludes that DPRD public communication plays a role as a mechanism for absorbing aspirations, coordination, supervision, and accountability in realizing responsive, participatory, and accountable community welfare programs.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the function and role of Qur'anic calligraphy in the context of the Malacca Straits Mosque. This study is carried out by applying the semiotic and hermeneutic approach of Islam, which makes it possible to examine the symbols, meanings and messages contained in the calligraphy from various perspectives, including historical, social, and cultural contexts. With an analytical focus on the calligraphy of the main wall and the mihrab, this study seeks to uncover the symbolic and non-verbal communication aspects carried by sacred texts in the worship space. In addition to exploring how calligraphy functions as a medium of teaching and reminder of spiritual values, this article will also discuss the visual aesthetic impact produced by such calligraphy, as well as how these artistic elements are able to create a solemn atmosphere in worship. Within the framework of scientific research, this article is prepared with a systematic structure with a qualitative analysis approach and observation of photographs and calligraphy transcription used as the main method in understanding symbolic messages. The main focus of the study is on the calligraphy text found on the main wall and mihrab of the Malacca Strait Mosque, which is believed to represent the core of the religious messages to be conveyed. Through visual and textual analysis, this study will identify the relationship between calligraphy aesthetics and the spiritual experience of pilgrims, as well as explore how calligraphy functions as a community bond that strengthens the collective identity of Muslims in the region. This study also focuses on the aspect of calligraphy, as one of the highest art forms in Islam, in this mosque not only functions as a decorative element, but also as a medium of communication that is rich in meaning. Every indentation and dot in calligraphy illustrates the dynamics of the spirituality of Muslims in interpreting the Qur'an, where every word becomes a window that connects man with the divine. The results of this study are expected to add academic insight in the field of Islamic art studies as well as contribute new perspectives to the discourse of Islamic cultural heritage, by highlighting the importance of preservation and appreciation of the art of calligraphy in the modern context.

Abstract

In an era marked by modernization, traditional rituals are often dismissed as obsolete or merely symbolic remnants of the past. This study challenges such assumptions by exploring Bersih Desa, a Javanese communal cleansing ritual, as a site of implicit eschatological expression. Far from being a purely cultural celebration, Bersih Desa embodies the community’s deeply held hopes for spiritual continuity and post-mortem well-being. Through an ethnographic study conducted in Sumberandong hamlet, Sumberoto village, situated in the southern region of Malang Regency, this research investigates how local conceptions of the afterlife are embedded within ritual practices and communal narratives. Drawing on in-depth interviews with ritual leaders and participants, and employing Creswell’s qualitative analysis framework, the findings reveal a rich interplay between indigenous spiritual cosmologies and formal religious teachings. This syncretic understanding sustains the ritual’s vitality, functioning as a localized eschatology bridging tradition and transcendence. The study contributes to contextual theology and the anthropology of religion, offering insight into how rituals like Bersih Desa articulate the hopes and horizons of a living tradition. Practically, this study recommends that local churches embrace Bersih Desa as an inculturated locus theologicus, fostering a transformative dialogue that honors indigenous ecological spirituality while recontextualizing Christian eschatological hope within the community.

Abstract

TikTok has evolved into a digital cultural space that plays a significant role in shaping gender representations through widely circulated visual content. This study aims to analyze the representation of hegemonic femininity in TikTok content and examine how the beauty standards portrayed contribute to the construction of users' gender identities. The research employs a qualitative approach using visual content analysis of ten TikTok videos from the beauty, glow-up, and aesthetic lifestyle categories that demonstrate high engagement rates and frequently appear on users’ For You Page (FYP). The analysis is conducted using Schippers’ theory of Hegemonic Femininity and Mansour Fakih’s concept of gender injustice. The findings reveal that hegemonic femininity is represented through the visual dominance of fair skin, slim body types, symmetrical facial features, flawless makeup, and aesthetic lifestyles, all of which are constructed as symbols of the ideal woman. These representations are reinforced by TikTok’s algorithmic mechanisms, which tend to promote content with specific visual characteristics, thereby contributing to the homogenization of beauty standards. The study also finds that digital beauty standards contribute to the internalization of dominant feminine values through practices of social comparison, the pursuit of public validation, and the formation of users’ self-image. Furthermore, various forms of gender injustice are identified, including stereotyping, marginalization, subordination, and symbolic violence, which emerge both in the representations themselves and in audience responses to women's bodies. This research highlights that TikTok functions not only as a platform for entertainment but also as a cultural agent that plays an active role in producing, reproducing, and sustaining the construction of hegemonic femininity in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the TikTok account @suarawanita represents anti-feminist narrative through translated Western content, how anti-feminist ideology resonates with Javanese gender culture, and how the discourse on career women and domestic women is framed in the content presented. This study uses a qualitative approach with a representation analysis method based on Stuart Hall’s Representation Theory. Data was collected through documentation of videos and comment columns on TikTok account @suarawanita. The result of the study show that the account selectively frames feminism as a threat to family harmony, a source of unhappiness for women, and a cause of damage to gender relations. This narrative resonates with traditional Javanese cultural values that emphasize family harmony, women’s domestic roles, and male leadership. From the perspective of Muslim feminism as advocated by Alimatul Qibtiyah, this representation tends to ignore moderate and progressive approaches that emphasize equality based on justice and shared responbility. This study confirms that the anti-feminist content on the TikTok account @suarawanita not only represents Western feminist ideology, but also creates new meanings that reinforce patriarchy in the context of traditional local Indonesian culture.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in the digital age faces a pedagogical paradox: while it aims to cultivate faithful and rational individuals, its instructional models often prioritize rote memorization over higher-order thinking. This disconnect leaves learners unable to critically engage with Islamic doctrines amid contemporary socio-religious challenges such as extremism, secularism, and misinformation. This study aims to analyze the theoretical and practical implementation of the Deep Learning (DL) framework—an emerging pedagogical model focused on critical analysis, integration, and transfer of knowledge—as a strategic alternative to enhance critical thinking skills (berpikir kritis) within PAI. Employing a qualitative library research design, this study systematically analyzes literature from national (SINTA-accredited) and international (Scopus-indexed) journals published between 2021 and 2025. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model (data condensation, display, verification), supplemented by thematic synthesis and critical hermeneutic analysis. The analysis reveals that surface learning dominates PAI classrooms due to time constraints, assessment systems focused on low-level recall, and teacher-centered approaches. Deep Learning—characterized by the three syntaxes: connecting, constructing, and active application —directly aligns with Islamic epistemological principles ( tafakkur , tadabbur , ijtihad ). The study constructs a synthesized model of Deep Learning-based PAI consisting of: (1) Authentic Problematization of faith issues, (2) Multidimensional Reasoning (naqli, aqli, and empirical), (3) Collaborative Dialogic Inquiry , and (4) Reflective Metacognitive Assessment . Implementing Deep Learning transforms PAI from doctrinal transmission into a critical-humanistic discipline. It significantly fosters students’ abilities to analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and create arguments rooted in Islamic sources while engaging with modern challenges. The study recommends teacher training redesign, curriculum modification, and assessment reform toward process-oriented evaluation.
