Abstract

Sufi exegesis (tafsir isyari) offers profound esoteric insights into the Qur'an, yet it frequently encounters academic skepticism due to perceived subjective biases and the absence of a systematized methodological framework. This study aims to reconstruct the methodology of symbolic interpretation in Sufi exegesis, bridging spiritual intuition with modern academic objectivity. Employing a qualitative library research design grounded in spiritual hermeneutics and historical-philosophical analysis, this research critically examines classical authoritative texts, including the works of Al-Tustari, Al-Qushayri, Al-Ghazali, and Ibn Arabi. The findings reveal that Sufi interpretation does not operate arbitrarily but functions through a novel "Layered Epistemic System" comprising textual (zahir), symbolic (isyarat), and spiritual (batin) dimensions. Within this framework, the literal meaning (zahir) serves as a rigorous epistemic control mechanism, fostering "disciplined subjectivity." Consequently, the transition from literal to spiritual meaning is mediated by intuition (dzauq and kasyf) while remaining strictly anchored in normative theological boundaries. Ultimately, this study proposes the theoretical construct of "Bounded Dynamic Epistemology," demonstrating that Sufi exegesis remains highly relevant for addressing the existential crises of contemporary modernity. It provides a robust hermeneutical paradigm that enables transformative, meaning-making encounters with the Qur'an without compromising its foundational textual integrity.

Abstract

This study examines the socio-religious resilience of the Cireundeu indigenous community in Cimahi, West Java, in preserving ancestral values, local spirituality, and interfaith cohesion amid urban modernization. While previous studies have discussed indigenous adat (customary tradition), local belief systems, interfaith harmony, and cultural tourism separately, limited attention has been given to how these dimensions operate together as an integrated mechanism of resilience within an urban indigenous community. Using a qualitative case study approach within the anthropology of religion, this study draws on in-depth interviews, field observations, visual documentation, and document analysis. The data were analyzed thematically by focusing on interfaith solidarity, Sunda Wiwitan/Agama Djawa Sunda (ancestral Sundanese belief/ADS) spirituality, customary values, sacred spaces, food-based identity, ritual practices, and adaptation to modernization. The findings show that Cireundeu’s resilience is shaped through three interrelated processes. First, interfaith harmony is sustained through kinship ties, gotong royong (mutual cooperation), mutual participation in Islamic celebrations and Seren Taun (annual thanksgiving and ancestral ritual), and respect for sacred communal spaces such as mosques and paseban (customary communal hall). Second, ancestral values are preserved through Sunda Wiwitan/ADS, Pikukuh Tilu (three firm principles), Tri Tangtu (threefold order), rasi (cassava-based rice) as a food-based identity, ecological ethics, and ritual continuity. Third, modernization is negotiated through the principle of Ngindung Ka Waktu, Mibapa Ka Jaman (following the times while preserving inherited identity), which enables selective adaptation without abandoning indigenous identity. This study argues that Cireundeu’s resilience should not be understood as cultural isolation, but as an everyday socio-religious process formed through negotiation, participation, symbolic continuity, and adaptive engagement with urban change.

Abstract

The trade market is increasingly dominated by e-commerce, shifting consumer preferences. Threatening the existence of traditional markets and retailers such as Johar as a cultural heritage of Semarang City. This study aims to analyze the influence of digital literacy, marketing skills, and market orientation on the sales performance, with entrepreneurial orientation as a moderating variable. This study uses a quantitative approach, collecting data via questionnaires from 225 clothing traders, determined using the Krejcie & Morgan formula, with a 95% confidence level and a 5% margin of error. Data analysis uses SEM-PLS through SmartPLS. The results show that digital literacy and marketing skills have a positive and significant effect on sales performance. Entrepreneurial orientation positively affects sales performance, but it does not significantly strengthen the relationship between digital literacy and sales performance. Directly or through entrepreneurial orientation, market orientation has not yet affected sales performance. These findings confirm that digital skills and marketing capabilities are key determinants of traders' performance in traditional markets amid digital transformation. Strengthening both aspects allows traders to adapt sustainably, so that Johar Market, as a cultural heritage, remains sustainable and its historical value is not lost, as it cannot be replicated. This study tests Albert Bandura's Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) in the context of traditional market MSMEs, which are relatively rarely discussed in previous studies.

Abstract

This research analyzes Indonesia’s Law Number 18 of 2019 on pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) as a form of state recognition within the politics of Islamic education. Utilizing a combined library research and content analysis and then policy study approach informed by contemporary literature, the study traces the genealogy of pesantren recognition in the national education system and critically examines its implications for institutional status, curriculum development, and resource allocation. Findings reveal that while the law provides formal legitimacy and expands access to state resources, it also introduces bureaucratic standards that may constrain the epistemological autonomy of pesantren. Varied responses among pesantren reflect ongoing negotiations between traditions of religious scholarship and demands of modernization. The research concludes that the effectiveness of legal recognition largely depends on the pesantren’s internal capacities to negotiate with state mechanisms and on implementation frameworks that respect institutional diversity. Policy recommendations include differentiated implementation strategies, curricular autonomy safeguards, strengthened human resource capacity, and participatory accountability models.

Abstract

Digital inclusion policies in public services aim to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to government administrative systems. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the digital inclusion policy implemented through the "Si Laku O2T" (Sistem Layanan Adminduk Kolaka Utara Offline, Online, dan Terintegrasi) innovation program at the Department of Population and Civil Registration of North Kolaka Regency. Using a qualitative descriptive research design, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with policy implementers, civil servants, and community members, alongside direct field observations and comprehensive document analysis. The evaluation framework was based on William N. Dunn’s policy evaluation metrics: effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, responsiveness, and appropriateness. The findings indicate that while "Si Laku O2T" has significantly enhanced administrative efficiency and simplified document issuance through its integrated and mobile-based services (such as "La Jebola"), full policy effectiveness is still constrained by structural barriers. These limitations include unstable telecommunication networks in remote mountainous areas, inadequate digital literacy among rural populations, and the lack of standardized digital infrastructure at the village level. Consequently, while the program represents a major step forward in administrative modernization, its transformative potential is unevenly distributed. This study recommends prioritizing local network infrastructure expansion, conducting sustained community digital literacy training, and standardizing administrative support systems across rural jurisdictions.

Abstract

This study analyzes the digital platform-based service innovation through the Lontara application in handling sexual violence in Makassar City. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive research design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observations, and documentation. The informants consisted of nine key actors, including the Integrated Service Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) officers, the Women and Children Protection Unit of the Polrestabes Makassar (PPA Police), and survivors of sexual violence. Grounded in Everett M. Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovations theory, the study evaluates five core attributes: relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, trialability, and observability. The findings reveal that while the Lontara platform significantly enhances early reporting accessibility, shortens administrative response times, and facilitates initial multi-sectoral coordination, its field execution faces several strategic barriers. These hurdles include substantial digital literacy gaps among vulnerable socio-economic groups, technical connectivity issues in suburban districts, and persisting cultural taboos that reinforce underreporting due to fear of social stigma. Furthermore, systemic integration between the municipality's digital platform and the police force’s judicial database remains loosely coupled. This research recommends comprehensive public socialization, UI/UX simplification, enhanced end-to-end data encryption to protect survivor anonymity, and the institutionalization of standardized digital-to-judicial referral protocols to optimize protection and recovery outcomes.

Abstract

This article examines the construction of popular Islamic visual ideology in the Instagram da’wah posters of Muslim Designer Community (MDC). Rather than treating da’wah posters merely as media for transmitting religious messages, the article positions them as visual-cultural artifacts in which Islamic meanings are produced through the interplay of text, image, typography, color, composition, and other design elements. The study responds to the limited corpus-based scholarship on how digital da’wah posters organize visual-verbal signs and naturalize particular models of Islamic piety. Employing a qualitative interpretive method, this article analyzes 50 MDC posters selected from 304 Instagram posts published from November 2022 to December 2023 through stratified purposeful sampling across ten themes. Roland Barthes’ semiotics, particularly his “Rhetoric of the Image,” provides the main analytical framework for examining linguistic messages, iconic messages, anchorage, relay, denotation, connotation, myth, and naturalization. The analysis shows that MDC posters rely on titles to anchor visual interpretation, main images to concretize religious values, and supporting texts to extend or legitimize the message. Across the corpus, these visual-verbal relations generate dominant myths of Islam as moral discipline, personal spirituality, practical worship, social ethics, communal solidarity, self-improvement, reflective awareness, and eschatological orientation. The article argues that popular Islam in MDC posters is constructed as a concise, aesthetic, communicative, and digitally compatible form of piety. It contributes to the study of digital da’wah, Islamic visual culture, and semiotic approaches to religious communication.

Abstract

Legal protection of the inheritance rights of wives and children in polygamous marriages is an important issue in Islamic family law related to justice and welfare within the family. This study aims to analyze the form of legal protection of the inheritance rights of wives and children in polygamous marriages through reflections on Islamic philanthropy by examining the Rozali-Buntet manuscript as a living legal source in society. The method used is normative legal research with a regulatory, conceptualization, historical, and case approach. The data used is secondary data including primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials. The results of the study indicate that normatively, Islamic law and the Compilation of Islamic Law have provided a clear basis for the distribution of inheritance, but in practice, inequality is still found due to social and cultural factors. The Rozali-Buntet manuscript shows a more flexible and contextual practice of inheritance distribution through a will mechanism, which reflects the values of justice and welfare. From the perspective of Islamic philanthropy, this distribution shows social concern and an effort to ensure the economic sustainability of the heirs. This research is expected to contribute to the development of Islamic family law in Indonesia, particularly in creating a more just, humanistic, and responsive inheritance distribution system to the needs of society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sociocultural values ??transmitted through Waruga and explain its role as a cultural learning space in Minahasa society. The study uses Spradley's ethnographic approach with research stages including participant observation, interviews, and documentation. Data collection was conducted at several Waruga sites in Minahasa, including Benteng Moraya Tondano, Waruga Mamarimbing, Waruga Kiwa, Waruga Timbukar, and the Minahasa Regent's Office area. The results show that Waruga not only functions as a traditional burial site, but also as a transmission of spiritual values, social values, and cultural identity values. These values ??are transmitted through family narratives, ancestral veneration rituals, ornamental symbols, cultural practices, and social interactions within the community. The research findings also indicate that Waruga has great potential to be developed as a source of sociological learning based on local wisdom to strengthen cultural literacy, identity awareness, and cultural preservation amidst the challenges of modernization and globalization. Thus, Waruga can be understood as a living cultural heritage that plays a role in maintaining the sustainability of the cultural values ??and identity of the Minahasa people.
