Abstract

This study examines Nike's advertisement "What If You Can?" through a semiotic and sociocultural approach, focusing primarily on gender representation and women's empowerment in the context of sport, particularly in the Middle East. This advertisement is interesting because it presents a narrative of Muslim women actively participating in sports, a discourse that often faces cultural and social challenges in the region. Using Roland Barthes's semiotic theory, this study analyzes the visual and textual signs contained in the advertisement to interpret their denotative and connotative meanings. This approach reveals how these signs shape the social construction of gender roles, as well as convey implicit and explicit motivational and empowering messages. Within the framework of a constructivist paradigm, this study emphasizes the importance of subjective interpretation of the existing signs, in order to uncover the deeper meanings hidden behind the visual representation. Furthermore, a critical approach is also used to assess the extent to which this Nike advertisement challenges established gender stereotypes, or even subconsciously reinforces them. This research focuses not only on the content of the advertisement, but also on the social and cultural context in which the advertisement is disseminated, particularly public perceptions of women's involvement in sports in the Middle East. A qualitative analysis was conducted on key elements in the advertisement, such as symbols, colors, narratives, and gestures, to identify how gendered meanings are constructed and conveyed. This research is expected to contribute to academic discourse on gender representation in the media, as well as its social implications for public attitudes toward women's equality and empowerment. Thus, this study demonstrates how Nike's visual communication strategy can play a role in shaping public perceptions regarding the role of women in modern sport.

Abstract

During college, various factors influence students' low academic engagement. Emotional pressure, academic stress, and an unsupportive social environment are often the main causes of students' lack of academic activity. However, academic engagement is a crucial factor that significantly influences academic success. Academic engagement itself is a multidimensional construct encompassing emotional, behavioral, and cognitive aspects of students' learning experiences. In general, academic engagement is influenced by internal factors, such as emotional state, learning interest, self-efficacy, and intrinsic motivation; and external factors, such as social environment, peer support, parental involvement, and the teaching style of lecturers. Students at the Painan College of Law (STIH) are not immune to this challenge, especially those who attend weekend employee classes. They face the dual pressures of work responsibilities, family obligations, and academic obligations. This can certainly reduce their focus and energy in optimally participating in lectures. Therefore, academic engagement is a crucial issue that needs to be addressed systematically to ensure students maintain their enthusiasm for learning. Through the Community Partnership Program (PKM), efforts are being made to provide students with a deeper understanding of the importance of academic engagement. The purpose of this activity is for students to understand the factors that influence academic engagement and develop strategies to address them. The methods used in this PKM include presentations, interactive discussions, and self-development and academic planning exercises. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will develop adequate awareness and skills in time management, self-regulation, and internal motivation to remain engaged in academic activities.

Abstract

Fraudulent investments pose a real threat to investors, especially foreign investors who lack a thorough understanding of regulations, the financial system, and market conditions in Indonesia. A lack of understanding of basic accounting principles and limited ability to analyze financial statements makes foreigners vulnerable to investment fraud. This community service activity aims to increase foreign literacy and awareness of the risks of fraudulent investments through basic accounting education and the use of legitimate digital financial applications. The activity was conducted online in collaboration with the Malang International Community in March 2025, with participants from various countries currently residing in Malang and the surrounding area. The activity was divided into two main stages. The first stage involved education and counseling on basic accounting principles, including understanding simple financial statements, cash flow analysis, and recognizing indicators of investment fraud. The second stage included training in the use of official digital financial applications registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK), enabling participants to manage their finances independently and securely. Evaluation results showed that 70% of participants experienced an increased understanding of fraudulent investments, were able to recognize signs of financial fraud, and felt more confident in assessing the legality of investment offers. Basic accounting education has proven effective as a tool to empower foreigners to be more vigilant against rampant illegal investment schemes. This program is expected to become a sustainable model for preventative education, protecting the international community from the risk of losses caused by fraudulent investment practices in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of Islamic parenting in strengthening the prosocial character of early childhood in RA Tarbiyatun Najah, Citapen Village. The background of this research is based on the importance of the role of Islamic parenting in shaping prosocial character as a foundation for children's social-emotional development. Parenting based on Islamic values is believed to be able to instill commendable qualities from an early age, which is an important basis in shaping children's personalities in the future. The research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving direct observation in schools as well as in-depth interviews with teachers and parents. The results of the study show that the implementation of Islamic parenting in the school environment has been carried out effectively, including through the provision of good examples by teachers, the habit of reading daily prayers, strengthening the value of monotheism in teaching and learning activities, and giving appreciation for children's prosocial behavior. Children who are exposed to the practice exhibit behaviors such as sharing, helping friends, working together in groups, and showing empathy for others. However, in the family environment, the practice of Islamic parenting tends to be limited to aspects of worship rituals alone, such as prayer and recital, while moral habituation and direct example have not been carried out optimally. This is due to the lack of understanding of parents about the comprehensive Islamic parenting style and the limited time that parents have to be actively involved in parenting. These findings indicate the need for stronger synergy between schools and families in implementing a balanced Islamic parenting. This study recommends the preparation of special mentoring and training programs for parents to strengthen their role in supporting the formation of children's prosocial character in a sustainable manner through an Islamic approach

Abstract

Students' ability to write news texts is often hampered by a lack of understanding of the structure and elements of good news texts. This condition causes students' writing results to not meet the criteria for language, completeness of information, and factual accuracy. This study aims to improve students' ability to write news texts through the application of the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) learning model in class VII-A students of SMP Negeri 1 Hiliduho. The TSTS model was chosen because it can increase interaction between students, encourage the exchange of information, and foster a deep understanding of the material through structured group discussions. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle includes four stages, namely (1) planning, (2) implementation of actions, (3) observation, and (4) reflection. The research instruments used are news text writing ability tests, observation sheets, and documentation. In cycle I, the analysis results show that the average score of students' writing ability is 45.09%, with the lowest score being 6.25% and the highest score being 93.7%. These results indicate that students' understanding of the structure, elements, and language of news still needs to be improved. After improving the learning strategy in cycle II, there was a significant increase in students' writing skills. The average score increased to 83.19%, with the lowest score being 50% and the highest score being 100%. This improvement indicates that the TSTS learning model is effective in helping students better understand the concept of news writing. Furthermore, the more interactive and collaborative learning atmosphere has been shown to motivate students to actively exchange information and develop ideas. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that Indonesian language teachers utilize the TSTS learning model as an alternative strategy in teaching news writing, so that the learning process becomes more meaningful and student learning outcomes can be optimally improved.

Abstract

The low reading interest and literacy skills of elementary school children in Indonesia remain a problem that requires creative and sustainable solutions. Factors such as limited access to quality books, a lack of reading habits at home, and uninteresting learning approaches are often the causes of a weak literacy culture among students. To address this problem, the Student Community Service Program (KKN) of Sebelas Maret University students in Singodutan Village implemented an activity aimed at fostering a culture of literacy in children through a Reading Book Content-Based Project at SDN 3 Krisak. The concept of this activity integrates reading activities with the creation of creative projects that are appropriate to the content of the reading, so that students not only understand the text but are also able to process the information into real products. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research type to understand students' experiences during the activity. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and literature review, which were then analyzed descriptively. Activities included selecting reading books appropriate to students' ability levels, shared reading, discussions about the reading content, and the creation of creative projects such as posters, picture stories, or artwork inspired by the reading material. The results of the activity showed an increase in student participation in reading activities, an increase in interest in books, and an improvement in their ability to process information into creative works. Furthermore, students demonstrated greater self-confidence when presenting their work to their classmates. The study concluded that the project-based approach has proven effective in fostering reading interest, strengthening reading comprehension, and developing creative thinking skills in elementary school children. This strategy has the potential to be adopted as a literacy learning method in other schools to address the low reading interest in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the social, economic, and environmental impacts of the Buruan SAE (Healthy, Natural, Economical) program implemented in Arcamanik District, Bandung City. The Buruan SAE program is designed to improve urban food security by promoting healthy and economical organic-based urban agriculture. This study used a mixed methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to provide a more comprehensive picture of the program's social impacts. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation conducted with community groups directly involved in the program. This method allowed researchers to explore community perceptions and experiences regarding the benefits they received from the program, as well as the challenges they faced in its implementation. In addition, the economic impact was measured by calculating the Social Return on Investment (SROI) Ratio, which provides an overview of the value of social benefits generated from each unit of investment spent. The results showed that the Buruan SAE program generated an SROI ratio of 3.73:1, meaning that every Rp 1 of social investment spent generated Rp 3.73 in social, economic, and environmental benefits. This demonstrates that the program is not only effective in improving community food security but also has a positive impact on improving the local economy and a healthier environment. Overall, this study concludes that the Buruan SAE program is effective in providing significant benefits, both socially, economically, and environmentally, and can be used as a model for developing sustainable urban food security. Furthermore, the Buruan SAE program also plays a significant role in strengthening social solidarity within the community. Through joint activities in urban agriculture management, the program encourages closer relationships between residents, especially within farmer groups and local communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the E-Samsat service in improving compliance with Motor Vehicle Tax (PKB) payments in Binjai City. The method used is descriptive qualitative with observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation techniques. This study involved 5 taxpayer informants who had different E-Samsat usage intensities (always, routinely, ever, rarely, never) and 1 key informant from the UPT Samsat. The results show that the E-Samsat service through the SIGNAL application and E-Samsat Sumut Bermartabat provide convenience, speed, and transaction security that have a positive impact on PKB payment compliance. This application makes it easier for taxpayers to make payments without having to visit the Samsat office, which of course increases convenience and time efficiency. However, there are still obstacles related to digital literacy and limited network infrastructure that hinder optimal utilization of the service. Many taxpayers do not fully understand how to use the application or do not have adequate access to use the service. Data on the realization of PKB in Binjai City shows an increasing trend in tax revenue after the introduction of the E-Samsat service, although this increase does not fully reflect an optimal level of compliance. This indicates that further public education is still needed regarding the importance of paying taxes and how to use the E-Samsat service. Ongoing supervision is also crucial to ensure that taxpayers not only conduct transactions but also fully understand their obligations. Furthermore, this study's findings suggest that public understanding of the importance of paying taxes still needs to be improved. A more effective communication strategy is needed to ensure that information about E-Samsat and its benefits is more widely disseminated. Overall, while E-Samsat has a positive impact on PKB payment compliance, infrastructure support, digital literacy, and more intensive education and supervision are essential to achieve maximum compliance.

Abstract

This study discusses the dynamics of the application of the principle of ultimum remedium in the eradication of corruption in Indonesia and its relevance to the principle of restorative justice. Corruption is seen as an extraordinary crime that requires a repressive approach and severe criminal sanctions, but on the other hand there is a discourse on the application of the principle of ultimum remedium which places criminal sanctions as the last step after other legal remedies are considered ineffective. This problem poses a dilemma in law enforcement, because it is faced with harsh demands for corruption eradication as well as efforts to realize more proportionate justice. This study uses normative juridical methods with legislative, conceptual, and case approaches, so that the analysis is focused on the applicable legal framework, criminal law theory, and application practices in the field. The results of the discussion show that the application of the principle of ultimum remedium in corruption crimes in Indonesia still raises debate, considering the characteristics of corruption that harm state finances and hinder development. On the one hand, this principle can be applied in a limited way to provide an alternative settlement space that places more emphasis on the recovery of state losses. On the other hand, its implementation is feared to weaken the deterrent effect and reduce public trust in the state's commitment to eradicating corruption. The relevance to the principle of restorative justice lies in the orientation of recovering state losses and fulfilling the sense of justice of the community, not solely the punishment of the perpetrator. Thus, this study emphasizes the importance of formulating policies that are balanced between repressive and restorative interests.
Pengaruh Work Family Conflict dan Workload terhadap Burnout pada Ibu Pekerja : Studi Kasus di Perusahaan Multinasional Apipah Apipah; Intaglia Harsanti

Abstract

The dual roles carried out by working mothers in managing household responsibilities and fulfilling professional duties often create pressures that affect their physical, mental, and emotional well-being, thereby increasing the risk of burnout. This study aims to examine the influence of work family conflict and workload on burnout among working mothers. A quantitative approach was employed using purposive sampling, involving 136 respondents. Burnout was measured using dimensions of exhaustion, mental distance, cognitive impairment, and emotional impairment. Work family conflict was measured using dimensions of time based WIF, time based FIW, strain based WIF, strain based FIW, behavior based WIF, and behavior based FIW. Workload was measured using dimensions of work speed and work quantity. Data were analyzed through multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that work family conflict and workload, when considered simultaneously, have a significant effect on burnout. Partially, work-family conflict significantly influences burnout, whereas workload does not have a significant effect on burnout among working mothers in this study. The study also suggests that while workload is a relevant factor, its direct impact on burnout among working mothers may be mediated by other variables such as personal coping mechanisms, support systems, and organizational practices. The lack of a significant relationship between workload and burnout in this study may reflect the adaptation of working mothers to their work environments or the presence of supportive workplace policies that help mitigate the negative effects of workload. In conclusion, this study highlights the need for workplace interventions that address work-family conflict and provide adequate support to working mothers. It also emphasizes the importance of developing policies that help alleviate the pressures of dual responsibilities, thereby reducing the risk of burnout.
