Abstract

Work-based learning (WBL) is a critical approach in nursing education that emphasizes experiential learning. However, qualitative studies frequently report challenges nursing students face in WBL settings. This study aims to systematically analyze qualitative evidence on nursing students’ experiences in work-based learning within healthcare organizations, highlighting key challenges and areas for improvement. A systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed using Medline, Embase, CINAHL, and JSTOR databases. Quality appraisal was conducted using the JBI-QARI framework. The initial search yielded 311 studies, seven of which were deemed eligible based on inclusion criteria that focused on qualitative English-language studies involving nursing students. The review identified three major challenges in WBL: (1) time constraints limiting learning opportunities, (2) workplace environmental factors such as lack of mentorship and high-pressure conditions, and (3) unclear benefits perceived by students in WBL programs. These factors contribute to varying levels of engagement and satisfaction among nursing students. This study is the first systematic review to evaluate nursing students’ perceptions of WBL, offering a comprehensive analysis of recurring issues. The findings provide valuable insights for educational institutions and healthcare organizations to enhance WBL effectiveness through structured mentorship, improved scheduling, and targeted support strategies, ultimately bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience in nursing education.

Abstract

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are crucial to a nation's economy, especially in developing countries; nevertheless, their involvement in international trade, particularly exports, is minimal, with SMEs representing merely 15% of Indonesia's total non-oil and gas exports in 2024. Women manage Indonesian SMEs more than men, yet they encounter difficulties doing foreign activities. This study aims to analyze the elements influencing the internationalization of SMEs and gender-specific roles. The research sample consisted of 190 SMEs, with 137 operated by women and 53 by males. The data analysis employs moderating regression analysis (MRA) with Smart PLS. The study's findings reveal that the critical determinants for the internationalization of SMEs in Indonesia encompass entrepreneurial characteristics (age and experience), SME characteristics, entrepreneurial orientation, and environmental factors. A significant disparity exists between male-managed and female-managed SMEs concerning their characteristics, environmental factors, and regulatory structures. Female SMEs exhibit enhanced agility and compliance with regulations. The characteristics of SMEs and the environmental factors have a more significant impact on the internationalization of male SMEs than female SMEs. This study's novelty is in the elements that facilitate successful internationalization and the contribution of women-led SMEs to enhancing internationalization efforts. Although the study's sample included Indonesian SMEs, the findings may yield more significant implications for the success factors of SME internationalization worldwide concerning gender diversity. This study offers insights for policymakers to enhance SME internationalization by incorporating SMEs into extensive industrial ecosystems and fostering a collaborative environment among industry stakeholders and SMEs within the export product supply chain.

Abstract

This study aims to diagnose students' conceptions and identify their sources related to direct current electrical circuits using a five-tier isomorphic diagnostic instrument. A quantitative method with a research and development design was used involving 108 grade XII students from State Senior High School 1 Jambi City. Data was collected through an isomorphic test of 9 questions, interviews, and documentation. Validity and reliability analysis using SPSS showed that the instrument was reliable (Cronbach's Alpha = 0.911). The implementation of this research instrument showed that the average percentage of students' correct answers (at Tier 1-4) was only 19.9%, indicating a low understanding of the concept. Then, this study also identified students' misconceptions, which included eight main types of misconceptions with an average overall percentage (at Tier 1-4) of 13.6%, which was also categorized as low. Personal thinking was identified as the primary source of misconceptions, providing important insights for designing physics learning interventions. This study's novelty lies in applying a five-tier diagnostic instrument to identify misconceptions and their sources, finding that students' thinking was the primary source. The results of this study provide important implications for physics education, including targeted intervention strategies and increased conceptual clarity, which ultimately support the teaching and learning of basic physics concepts.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Android-assisted virtual physics learning developed using Smart Application Creator in enhancing students' critical thinking skills during the study of optical material in high school. The novelty of this research lies in its integration of mobile-based virtual learning environments with a targeted emphasis on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) a crucial competency in 21st-century education. While prior studies have explored virtual learning media in science education, few have systematically examined their cognitive impact particularly on critical thinking in the context of physics. A quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group was used, and purposive sampling determined the participant pool. Data were collected using validated test instruments designed to assess five core indicators of critical thinking. Statistical analysis through an independent sample t-test at a significance level of α = 0.05 revealed a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00, indicating a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. The average N-Gain in the experimental group (0.74) significantly outperformed that of the control group (0.53). The most notable improvements in the experimental group included the ability to evaluate arguments (88.2%), draw conclusions (84.3%), identify assumptions (80.4%), apply deductive reasoning (75.2%), and logically interpret data (65%). These findings demonstrate the pedagogical potential of Android-based virtual media in supporting cognitive development in physics learning. The study provides a foundation for developing scalable, interactive learning tools that align with HOTS frameworks, offering new directions for physics instruction in digitally driven classrooms.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has reshaped various sectors of human life, including education, where digital tools are increasingly integrated into instructional practices. Among these tools, the Virtual Writing Tutor (VWT) has emerged as a promising platform for enhancing writing instruction through real-time feedback and automated assessment. While existing studies have explored VWT’s potential in assisting writing tasks, limited research has examined its integration into a structured, pedagogically sound writing learning model. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of incorporating VWT within a comprehensive writing instruction model and its impact on improving students’ academic writing skills. Employing a descriptive research design, this study involved 30 undergraduate students from the English Literature Study Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara. Writing tests were administered before and after the implementation of the VWT-integrated model. Students' written outputs were assessed using VWT’s diagnostic features, focusing on coherence, grammar accuracy, vocabulary use, punctuation, and spelling. The data were analyzed descriptively to capture improvement patterns and student performance trends. The findings demonstrate that VWT significantly supports students in the writing process by helping them generate, structure, and refine their ideas with more autonomy. Students also showed improved awareness of language mechanics and vocabulary selection. A novel contribution of this study is its proposal of a VWT-integrated instructional framework that not only facilitates independent learning but also complements teacher feedback. These findings underscore the importance of embedding technological tools like VWT into writing pedagogy to enhance writing outcomes and promote learner-centered instruction in higher education.

Abstract

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) have emerged as powerful tools that bridge vast learning resources with diverse global learners, particularly gaining prominence during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. While numerous studies have investigated the general application of MOOCs, limited research has specifically focused on their distribution and utilization within the field of mathematics education, especially in the post-pandemic context. This study aims to fill that gap by conducting a systematic literature review on MOOCs in mathematics, using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) framework to ensure a rigorous and replicable review process. At the identification stage, 2,349,886 articles were initially retrieved. After a comprehensive screening process based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, 78,191 articles were considered relevant. From this pool, 12 articles specifically addressed MOOCs in mathematics. However, only 6 articles met all the eligibility criteria for in-depth analysis. The findings reveal several key insights: (1) mathematics MOOCs are underrepresented in research, particularly in the context of school education; (2) research output on mathematics MOOCs has declined post-pandemic; (3) quantitative research methods dominate the field, limiting deeper qualitative insights; and (4) African countries remain significantly underrepresented in terms of both production and study of MOOCs in mathematics. This study contributes novel insights to the literature by highlighting geographic and methodological research gaps. It suggests that future research should explore mathematics MOOCs in school contexts, particularly using mixed-method approaches, and focus on understudied regions like Africa to promote equitable digital education access and innovation.

Abstract

It becomes a dilemma when on the one hand to meet market needs, people massively utilize the environment and on the other hand it causes damage, especially in agriculture. There needs to be an appropriate problem approach to overcome this. The purpose of this research is to develop a strategy model for implementing integrated organic farming based on circular agriculture. This research uses quantitative methods with sequential exploratory design. This design begins with quantitative research first, then qualitative with the aim of completing the discussion with Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) analysis. The economic dimension has the greatest weight with a value of 0.381. This indicates that in realizing organic farming integrated with Circular Economy, the first thing that needs to be focused on is the economic dimension by making production cost efficiency (Rank 1; GW 0.118).

Abstract

This study aims to develop and assess the effectiveness of inquiry-based teaching materials in enhancing both mathematical and language literacy among university-level mathematics students. Using the Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model, the research involved second-semester students from the Mathematics program at Universitas Negeri Padang, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires, observations, interviews, and tests assessing mathematical understanding and language literacy and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics along with thematic analysis for qualitative data. The results revealed significant improvements in student engagement, with 80% of participants reporting enhanced understanding and critical thinking. Furthermore, pre and post-test scores showed a notable increase in both mathematical and language literacy, from an average score of 60 in the pre-test to 78 in the post-test, alongside marked improvements in critical thinking, evaluation, and analysis skills. The findings demonstrate that the inquiry-based approach effectively promotes active learning and enhances both mathematical and language literacy. The novelty of this research lies in integrating inquiry-based learning to simultaneously address both cognitive and literacy skills in mathematics education, offering a more holistic approach to student development. This research suggests that incorporating such methods into the curriculum can foster more interactive, student-centered learning experiences, encouraging educators to adopt these approaches for improving critical thinking and literacy, thus enriching students' academic and professional capabilities.
