Abstract

Assessment in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays a strategic role in measuring cognitive achievement while simultaneously internalizing religious values. This aligns with the theory of assessment for learning, which emphasizes assessment as a continuous process of constructive feedback and Bloom’s taxonomy as a reference for developing cognitive questions from lower to higher-order thinking. This study analyzes the cognitive assessment practices of PAI teachers at a junior high school in Bandung, covering teachers’ understanding, planning, implementation, use of assessment results, and professional development. A qualitative approach with an instrumental case study design was employed, involving four purposively selected PAI teachers. Data were collected through structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of teaching modules, test items, and rubrics, then analyzed using Huberman’s stages of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Findings reveal that assessment planning is supported by curriculum and MGMP forums, though rubrics remain holistic; implementation combines various techniques but written tests dominate; results are used for remedial; while professional development occurs through MGMP but still requires practical training on HOTS and analytic rubrics. This study contributes by mapping the contextual assessment cycle of PAI and recommending rubric strengthening, differentiation, and continuous professional development, enabling assessment to function as both a driver of holistic learning and a medium for value internalization.

Abstract

This article examines the intellectual contributions of Islamic civilization to The rise of Medieval Europe through a historical and cross-civilizational perspective. Using the historical method with steps heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. This study analyzes how the Islamic Golden Age (8th–14th centuries) produced significant advancements in medicine, mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, and educational institutions such as the Bayt al-Hikmah. The research highlights the pathways through which knowledge was transferred to Europe, including translation movements in Toledo and Sicily, intercultural encounters in Andalusia, the Crusades, and trade networks across the Mediterranean. The findings show that Islamic intellectual traditions introduced algebra, Arabic numerals, empirical scientific methods, clinical medical practice, astronomical observations, and philosophical reasoning that later became foundational to European scholasticism and university curricula. The integration of this knowledge contributed to Europe’s transition from the Dark Ages toward the Renaissance and the Scientific Revolution. This study emphasizes that the rise of Europe was shaped not by isolated development but through interconnected intellectual exchanges between civilizations. This research contributes to historical studies by balancing historical understanding related to Islamic civilization with the Global (European) scientific tradition, providing an academic foundation for cross-civilizational studies, this research presents richer, contextual historical learning materials, and eliminates euro-centric bias.

Abstract

The provision of affordable community-driven cooperative housing models presents a promising alternative in Indonesia, optimizing land use by separating building costs from land ownership. However, the viability of this model is fundamentally undermined by land tenure insecurity. Residents who invest in the construction of their houses remain vulnerable, as the land held under a long-term lease can be sold, mortgaged, or alienated by the original landowner, risking their long-term security. This study conceptualizes Islamic legal framework of waqf (endowment) as a direct legal remedy to this specific vulnerability. This study employs a qualitative socio-legal analysis, collecting data through classical fiqh text that further analyzed for its feasibility within Indonesia’s contemporary Law No. 41 of 2004 concerning waqf, and used the Rujak Center for Urban Studies (RCUS) cooperative housing model as a case study. The results demonstrate that by synthesizing the principles of perpetuity and inalienability with the separation of corpus and usufruct, the risk from landowner default or third-party sale is mitigated. This study contributes a novel legal framework that reconceptualizes waqf not merely as a charitable act, but as an instrument for land tenure security.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an academic critique of the phenomenon of religious horror cinema in Indonesia by analyzing the film Munkar (2024). The research addresses the theoretical issue of commodifying sacred texts within the cinematic realm. Drawing on Vladimir Propp's narrative analysis and Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics, the study examines how verses from the Qur'an are transformed from theological authorities into elements that evoke horror. The narrative analysis identifies 24 Proppian functions that position sacred verses as magical agents driving the plot. From a semiotic perspective, symbolic deconstruction emerges through the icon of the red mukena and the subversion of the mosque's sacred space, leading to the portrayal of a religious devil. The study's contribution confirms a pattern of desacralization of Islamic symbols, blurring the line between the sacredness of the text and the interests of the entertainment industry. These findings offer a new perspective on how popular media reconfigures discourses of morality and destiny through provocative horror imagery. Propp’s analysis reveals 24 narrative functions within the film’s plot, while Peirce’s semiotics examines icons, symbols, and indices related to these verses—such as Herlina’s red clothing, the mosque as a site of terror, prostration facing away from the qibla, and the roles of water, prayer beads, and the Qur’an in confronting evil forces. The results show that the film does not merely use Qur’anic verses as decorative or proselytizing elements, but also as tools to reinterpret Islamic values, depict the arrogance of the devil, illustrate the consequences of rejecting destiny, and convey the law of cause and effect (retribution) for unjust actions. However, there is also potential for a shift in meaning or commodification

Abstract

This article examines Abdus Salam's thoughts on the integration of religion and science in the context of the development of modern Islamic science. This study aims to describe the philosophical foundations, integration models, and the relevance of Salam's ideas in responding to the challenges of contemporary science. The study uses qualitative methods through literature review using documentation techniques on Salam's primary works, scientific books, and recent journal articles. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis to identify key concepts and link them to Islamic scientific discourse. The results show that Salam built the integration of religion and science based on the principle of monotheism, which views the order of nature as a manifestation of God's will. His integration model encompasses epistemological, axiological, and educational dimensions, emphasizing that scientific activity must have a moral and welfare orientation. These findings contribute to the strengthening of the Islamic scientific paradigm that harmoniously combines revelation and empiricism. This study concludes that Salam's thoughts remain relevant in addressing contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the revitalization of science in the Muslim world, and offers a conceptual framework for the development of character-based Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines pilgrimage (ziarah) to the tomb of KH. Abdurrahman Wahid (Gus Dur) as an adaptive and resilient cultural system within contemporary Indonesian Islam. Rather than treating pilgrimage solely as a religious rite or a form of religious tourism, it conceptualizes ziarah as a socio-cultural ecosystem shaped by ongoing negotiations among individual values, collective meanings, and material structures. The analytical framework integrates Schwartz’s Basic Human Values Theory and Ungar’s Cultural Resilience Theory to bridge micro- and macro-level analysis. Methodologically, the study adopts a qualitative multi-method approach based on secondary data analysis, including statistical data, surveys of pilgrims’ motivations, ethnographic findings, and analyses of media and community narratives. The findings indicate that pilgrims’ motivations are diverse and overlapping, driven by distinct configurations of psychological values, which are articulated into four dominant pilgrim archetypes—Ritualists, Moralists, Seekers, and Tourists—coexisting within a single pilgrimage ecosystem. The cultural resilience of the Gus Dur pilgrimage site lies in its capacity to accommodate these archetypes without compromising its spiritual core, mediated by Gus Dur’s role as a central figure with religious, political, and moral legitimacy and reinforced by the transformation of pilgrimage into a community-based socio-economic ecosystem. As a synthesis, the study proposes a Sustainable Pilgrimage Culture Model that offers theoretical and practical contributions to inclusive, value-centered, and sustainable pilgrimage governance.

Abstract

This paper investigates the concept of wahdatul ulum from the perspective of Ibn Rushd. The researcher utilized qualitative research with a descriptive-historical analysis method. The primary data source for this study is Ibn Rushd's magnum opus, "Faslu Maqal fi Ma Bayna Hikmah wa asy-Syariah min al-Ittisal." The findings suggest that, according to Ibn Rushd, religion and philosophy—being the foundation of science—are fundamentally harmonious. Consequently, the relationship between the two is both absolute and inevitable. It is inconceivable for contradictions to exist between religion and philosophy, as both stem from the same essence: Allah. When apparent contradictions arise, a hermeneutic interpretation is essential to uncover their underlying rationality. In his examination of God’s provisions, Ibn Rushd applies the principle of cause and effect, firmly rooted in rational thought. He places significant emphasis on the importance of logic within religion to prevent individuals from succumbing to the pitfalls of theodicy, apologetics, and dogmatism. Ibn Rushd distinguishes knowledge not by categorizing it as religious or scientific, but by interpreting it as the knowledge of Allah and the knowledge that can be comprehended by humans.

Abstract

Communication between parents and children is vital in shaping character, attitudes, and the overall quality of family relationships. In Islam, this communication is regarded as an essential aspect of education and moral guidance. This study seeks to delve into the ethics of communication between parents and children as grounded in Islamic teachings by examining the normative values present in the Qur'an and Hadith, as well as their relevance in contemporary Muslim family life. The research employs a qualitative approach, conducting a literature review that analyzes primary sources, including verses from the Qur'an and Hadith, along with secondary sources such as books, scholarly articles, and academic studies addressing family communication and Islamic education. The findings reveal that Islamic communication ethics emphasize principles such as gentleness (qaulan layyinan), honesty, patience, wisdom, exemplary behavior, and mutual respect between parents and children, all of which are foundational for fostering harmonious family relationships rooted in spiritual values. Additionally, ethical communication has been found to significantly contribute to instilling moral values, enhancing emotional closeness, and preventing conflicts within families. This study offers both theoretical insights into the development of family communication studies based on Islamic values and practical guidance for parents and educators in implementing ethical communication practices to cultivate families that are socially, emotionally, and spiritually fulfilled.
