Abstract

Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae. It is a neglected tropical disease, still found in more than 120 countries, with more than 200,000 new cases reported each year.. The purpose of this research is to characterize leprosy patients in Lhokseumawe City and to describe the Multi Drug Therapy therapy. Information about the therapy, including the kind of leprosy, age, gender, employment, and the precise period of treatment, is evaluated in this research. Instruments for measurement were derived using data collected from medical records in this cross-sectional observational investigation. A whole sampling population was used in the sampling procedure, with 42 respondents making up the sample. Based on these findings, MB leprosy is the most frequent form of the disease (90.5% of cases), men make up the majority (64.3%) of leprosy patients, and the majority of leprosy patients are adults (88.1%). Results from the MDT treatment protocol indicated that 76.2% of patients were considered to have finished therapy (RFT), with the biggest occupational category being patients who did not work, accounting for 50% of the total. It is imperative that leprosy officers work to promote health promotion in order to raise awareness, decrease negative stigma, and speed up the discovery of leprosy cases

Abstract

Irritant contact dermatitis is a skin disease that often occurs in rubber company workers due to contact with irritant materials. Irritant materials in the work environment can damage the skin, cause inflammation, and cause irritation. If not treated immediately, this condition can interfere with comfort and reduce work efficiency. This study aims to determine the factors associated with complaints of irritant contact dermatitis in production and laboratory workers at PT. X. This study uses a quantitative approach with an observational cross-sectional design. The study population was 64 workers, with 38 people as samples taken using a purposive sampling technique. The variables studied included the dependent variable (complaints of irritant contact dermatitis) and independent variables (length of service, exposure to chemicals, duration of exposure, personal hygiene, and use of PPE). Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Chi-Square statistical test with a 95% confidence interval. The results showed that complaints of irritant contact dermatitis with moderate and severe categories were 44.7%, and the mild category was 55.3%. There was a significant relationship between length of work (p=0.031), length of exposure (p=0.032), personal hygiene (p=0.011), and use of PPE (p=0.024) with complaints of irritant contact dermatitis. Abstract

Fungal infection is an infectious disease that has a fairly high prevalence in tropical countries. Fungi that cause infections include Candida albicans and Malassezia furfur. Sungkai plants (Peronema canescens) can be used as antifungals because they contain secondary metabolite compunds, such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The pupose of this study was to determine the antifungal activities of 96% ethanol extract of sungkai leaves against Candida albicans and Malassezia furfur. The antifungal activity test of the extract used the disc diffusion method with test solution concentrations of 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, and 50% with ketoconazole as positive control and sterile aquadest as a negative control. The best inhibition results were obtained at a concentration of 50% with an average inhibition zone of 9.8mm (moderate category) against Candida albicans and an average inhibition zone of 6.88mm (moderate category) against Malassezia furfur. This shows that ethanol extract of sungkai leaves has antifungal activities.

Abstract

This literature review explores the effects of tomato juice on lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure in elderly individuals with hypertension. Hypertension is a prevalent condition among the elderly and a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The objective of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of tomato juice as a non-pharmacological intervention to manage hypertension. The research methodology involved a comprehensive review of studies published between 2020 and 2024, sourced from reputable databases such as Google Scholar and ScienceDirect. The findings indicate that tomato juice, rich in potassium and lycopene, significantly reduces blood pressure in elderly patients. Potassium helps regulate sodium levels in the body, while lycopene provides antioxidant benefits and promotes vascular health. Although tomato juice demonstrates potential as an effective and natural remedy for hypertension, further research with larger sample sizes and longer durations is needed to confirm its long-term benefits. The implications of these findings suggest that tomato juice could be considered as a supportive therapy for hypertension management in the elderly, though it should not replace conventional antihypertensive medications.

Abstract

Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in women worldwide, with approximately 2.3 million new cases or 11.7% of all cancer cases. Human Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor 2 (HER-2) is one of the important therapeutic targets in breast cancer that is overexpressed in 15-25% of cases. Conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy often cause adverse side effects, so safer alternative therapies are needed. This study aims to assess the potential of active compounds from medicinal plants as HER-2 inhibitors through a molecular docking approach. The literature review method was used by analysing related research articles in the last five years obtained from PubMed and Google Scholar databases. The results showed that several active compounds have high potential as HER-2 inhibitors, including beta cystosterol from guava leaves (Psidium guajava L.) with a binding energy value of -12.3 kcal/mol, vitexin from dandang gendis (Clinacanthus nutans L.) with a value of -9.3 kcal/mol, and isovitexin from basil mekah (Ocimum gratissimum) with a value of -9.11 kcal/mol. These findings provide a basis for further development of natural active compounds as potential breast anticancer drug candidates with minimal side effects.
