Abstract

The changing function of the Cang-cang dance, which was originally included in the Mabang Handak wedding tradition, is now widely performed in various art performances and to welcome guests at weddings and invitations to tourism office activities. The problem of this research is "Why did the Cang-cang dance change in function?". This study aims to uncover and describe the formulation of the problem in the Cang-cang dance in the Mabang Handak wedding tradition as a performance dance in Kayuagung City, Komering Ilir Regency (OKI), South Sumatra. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method, which is artistic (less patterned), and is called an interpretive method because the research data is more concerned with the interpretation of data found in the field. The results of this research reveal that the reworked Cang-cang dance carries a new concept with more energetic, dynamic movements and a more epic floor plan for its performance on stage. It has been completely reworked, creating a new creative dance. However, this rework retains the concept of draping a cloth/scarf around the guest (Cang-cang). Therefore, this dance is still known as the Cang-cang dance, with its function shifting to a performance dance. The results of the research obtained, it can be concluded that the Cang-cang dance, which was originally only a traditional Mabang Handak wedding dance, has been reworked with a new concept, finally becoming a performance dance with a new creative dance.

Abstract

This research explains the philosophy of "Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah" in Social Studies learning as a learning resource within the context of Minangkabau society. Through a literature study method, this research explores the concepts, history, and practical implications of this philosophy in Social Studies education. The discussion encompasses the philosophical concepts of this philosophy that emphasize harmony between customs and religion, as well as its important role in student character formation. The results of the literature study indicate that integrating this philosophy into Social Studies education requires the development of a balanced curriculum between theoretical aspects and local cultural values. Teachers also need to be trained to integrate cultural and religious values into daily learning, while evaluation and assessment must also reflect students' understanding of these values. Furthermore, the discussion regarding the impact of integrating this philosophy on student character formation highlights the importance of learning that emphasizes attitudes of tolerance, justice, responsibility, and leadership. Thus, through a holistic approach to integrating the philosophy of "Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah" in Social Studies learning, it is hoped that students can develop strong character and bring positive impact to Minangkabau society and society in general.

Abstract

The 2024 elections marked a surge in political participation from the younger generation, especially Gen Z and Millennials, who began actively running for the legislature. This research aims to examine the political strategies used by legislative candidates from Gen Z and Millennials through a literature review approach. The focus of the study lies on the political characteristics of the younger generation, the use of social media as a campaign tool, and the challenges and opportunities in actualizing digital political strategies. The findings show that young candidates tend to utilize digital platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to build their image, reach young voters, and strengthen two-way communication. This strategy is considered effective in increasing political engagement, although it still faces obstacles such as digital polarization, limited resources, and social media algorithms. This research contributes to the understanding of the dynamics of youth digital politics and can be a strategic reference for political actors and researchers in the field of contemporary politics.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of Francis Bacon's epistemological thinking to the development of modern science and its relevance to the foundation of social science, especially in Social Studies education. The main issue of this research departs from the scientific paradigm shift from the speculative scholastic tradition to a scientific approach based on observation and empirical experience. By using qualitative methods through literature study and historical-philosophical analysis, this research traces how Bacon's inductive method shapes a scientific mindset that is rational, objective, and systematic. The results show that Bacon's principle of empiricism is not only the basis for natural sciences, but also provides a methodological framework for modern social studies. His concept of idola mentis emphasizes the importance of freeing the mind from bias and prejudice in the process of acquiring scientific knowledge. Bacon's thinking is also relevant in the context of modern education through the application of inquiry-based and experiential learning models that encourage students' critical and reflective thinking skills. Although this research is conceptual in nature, the results open new directions for empirical studies that examine the application of Bacon's principles of empiricism in contemporary social research and pedagogy. Thus, Bacon's intellectual legacy affirms the importance of balance between rationality, empirical experience, and moral responsibility in building the progress of science and civilization.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Problem-Based Learning model in Sociology Learning through an educational philosophy approach covering ontological, epistemological, and axiological dimensions. Through the literature study method, this study aims to analyze how the PBL model reflects the ontological dimension in sociology learning, knowledge is constructed epistemologically through PBL, and axiological values that emerge from the application of PBL. The results of the literature study show that ontologically, PBL reflects real and contextual social reality as a source of problems to be analyzed. Epistemologically, PBL emphasizes the construction of knowledge through the process of scientific inquiry, orientation of students to problems, organizing students for learning, guiding students in individual and group investigations, improving and presenting the results of student work, and analyzing and evaluating the problem-solving process. Meanwhile, axiologically, PBL instills the values of creativity, critical thinking, independent learning, motivation, responsibility for learning, collaboration, and group cooperation. Thus, the application of the PBL model in sociology learning has a strong relationship between the dimensions of ontology, epistemology, and axiology. The limitation of this study is the lack of direct empirical validation. Therefore, further research is recommended to test the implementation of PBL through classroom action research or experiments to obtain concrete evidence regarding its effectiveness.

Abstract

The Limas House at the Balaputra Dewa Museum is a cultural heritage site that must be preserved. The Limas House has been a typical Palembang traditional house since 1930. The first owner of the Limas House was Syarif Abdurachman Alhabsi, who later purchased it from the Palembang City Government. This Limas House is divided into two parts facing opposite directions. The owner of the rear house is Syarif Ali. The characteristic of the four-story Limas House building is called Bengkilas. At major events, seating positions depend on family status. In 1995, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands visited the Balaputra Dewa Museum. The Limas House was legalized as an icon on the 2005 Rp. 10,000 banknote, along with an image of the South Sumatran hero, Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II. Since the 2005 Rp. 10,000 banknote was issued, the number of national tourists visiting Palembang and the Balaputra Dewa Museum has increased. Students and schools in Palembang have involved the Balaputra Dewa Museum in learning about Local Wisdom and contributing to school activities. Each structure in the Balaputra Dewa Museum holds meaning and value for the people of Palembang. This research aims to raise awareness among the people of Palembang and the younger generation of the city about the need to increase their knowledge of Limas Houses and promote traditional tourism. The researchers used interviews with tour guides and secondary data from a literature review.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of facts, values, and events in constructing an understanding of contemporary social phenomena, particularly in social science analysis in Indonesia. The main problem of this research stems from the research gap that separates these elements, resulting in less holistic analysis of phenomena such as structural poverty and educational fraud in the post-truth era. Using descriptive qualitative methods through literature research, content analysis, and hermeneutics, this study explores the relationship between these three concepts based on secondary data from scientific literature, journals, and BPS 2025 documents. The results show that facts as empirically verified objective realities, values as subjective views that shape behavior, and events as social dynamics are interrelated, forming a comprehensive analytical framework. For example, poverty data of 8.47% in March 2025 (BPS) is interpreted through the value of injustice as events such as demonstrations, avoiding the reduction of social reality to mere data. This integration is relevant for overcoming information manipulation and supporting social policies that are sensitive to cultural contexts. This thinking is relevant in the context of social education through the application of integrative analysis that encourages students' critical understanding of contemporary phenomena. Although conceptual in nature with limited secondary sources, the results open the way for empirical studies that test this framework in the field. Thus, the integrative legacy of facts-values-events affirms the importance of balancing empirical objectivity, value interpretation, and event dynamics in the advancement of contemporary social science.

Abstract

This study applies the Discourse-Historical Approach (DHA) within Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to examine how ideological power and nationalism were represented in Indonesian history education during the Guided Democracy era (1959–1965). Using textbooks, curriculum documents, and political speeches as primary data, the research explores how discourse functioned to legitimize Sukarno’s vision of “guided leadership,” unity, and revolutionary identity. The findings reveal that educational texts operated as ideological tools constructing a moral-political version of history that reinforced state authority and excluded plural perspectives. Through Fairclough’s and Wodak’s frameworks, the study identifies recurring lexical strategies—such as “revolutionary struggle” and “anti-imperialism”—as linguistic mechanisms shaping collective identity. The discussion extends to the postcolonial context, emphasizing that decolonizing education in Indonesia still faces epistemic dependency on state-centered and Eurocentric narratives. Aligning with recent scholarship on curriculum decolonization, the study concludes that historical education must move toward epistemic justice and critical pedagogy to reframe national identity and historical consciousness.

Abstract

This study investigates how well junior high school students in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) comprehend the philosophical and cultural principles that support the region's special autonomy. The 2024 study across four regencies and one city in DIY implemented a quantitative survey using structured questionnaires to gather data from around 200 participants. The study discovered that students show limited understanding of important cultural principles like Hamemayu Hayuning Bawana and Manunggaling Kawula Gusti that form the core of Yogyakarta’s identity. Students generally lacked knowledge about the region's governance since many participants did not recognize key historical and cultural aspects. Students' lack of knowledge provides a threat to traditional values, while modernisation and democratic concepts increase their sway. According to this study, in addition to teaching about local governance, schools ought to integrate Yogyakarta's philosophical underpinnings and historical history through their cultural curricula. The plan proposes community involvement programs to help young people deepen their connection to their cultural roots. Future generations risk losing connection to the region's distinct cultural identity if educational and preservation efforts remain ineffective, thereby threatening Yogyakarta special status.
