Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential competencies in mathematics learning, but learning practices often emphasize final results rather than students' thinking processes. These differences in thinking processes are inseparable from personality characteristics, particularly the Thinking and Feeling types. This study aims to describe and compare students' critical thinking skills in solving mathematical problems based on the Thinking and Feeling personality types. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with two subjects, eighth-grade students at Unismuh Makassar Junior High School, each representing the Thinking and Feeling personality types. Data were obtained through the MBTI personality test, critical thinking ability tests in the form of essay questions, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña model with time triangulation to ensure data validity. The results showed that both personality types were able to fulfill the six indicators of critical thinking, namely interpretation, analysis, inference, evaluation, explanation, and self-regulation, but through different thinking processes. Students with the Thinking type showed a more logical, systematic, and efficient thinking pattern from the early stages, while students with the Feeling type displayed a more gradual, contextual, and reflective thinking process. These findings confirm that critical thinking in mathematics is multidimensional and influenced by personality. This study contributes to enriching the study of mathematical critical thinking and provides practical implications for teachers to design adaptive learning according to students' thinking characteristics.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of classroom-based character education in an elementary school setting. Using a qualitative exploratory case study design, the research was conducted at Muhammadiyah Karangkajen Elementary School in Yogyakarta. The participants included the principal, teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis, with the researchers serving as key instruments supported by interview and observation guides. Data were analyzed through coding, thematic categorization, and interpretative analysis. The findings reveal that classroom-based character education is implemented through four dimensions: integration of character values into curriculum and learning activities, structured classroom management practices, student-centered learning models such as PBL, CTL, inquiry, cooperative learning, and discovery learning, and the development of local content. The local content component is explicitly reflected in Javanese language instruction and batik-making activities, which foster manners, respect, responsibility, independence, and cooperation among students.

Abstract

Early reading acquisition remains a persistent challenge in early childhood education, particularly in identifying instructional strategies that align with the cognitive and developmental characteristics of young learners. Although the Cantol Roudhoh method has been widely applied in Indonesian Islamic kindergarten settings, empirical evidence supporting its effectiveness through rigorous quantitative analysis remains limited. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Cantol Roudhoh method in improving early reading skills among Group A learners in an Islamic kindergarten in Cirebon Regency, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach was employed. The participants consisted of 25 children selected through saturated sampling. Data were collected using a structured early reading assessment instrument that had undergone expert validation and reliability testing, yielding a Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient exceeding 0.70. Descriptive analysis revealed a notable increase in students’ reading performance, with the mean score rising from 7.44 in the pretest to 17.30 in the posttest. Inferential statistical analysis further confirmed a statistically significant difference between the two measurements (t = 14.687, p < 0.05). These findings indicate that the Cantol Roudhoh method effectively enhances early reading acquisition through multisensory and associative learning processes. The study provides empirical support for the integration of structured multisensory instructional strategies in Islamic early childhood education and contributes to the growing body of literature on effective approaches to early literacy development.

Abstract

This study examines educational financing management strategies and their impact on the quality of school services at MTs Negeri 2 Bengkulu Tengah, an Islamic junior secondary school in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the principal, treasurer, teachers, and school committee members, supported by non-participant observations and analysis of financial and planning documents, including the School Activity and Budget Plan (Rencana Kegiatan dan Anggaran Sekolah or RKAS) and School Operational Assistance (Bantuan Operasional Sekolah or BOS) realization reports. Data triangulation was applied to enhance credibility and analytical rigor. The findings reveal that the madrasah implements a strategic financing model characterized by participatory budget planning, priority-based allocation, transparent financial reporting, and multi-layered monitoring involving internal and external oversight. Empirical evidence demonstrates measurable impacts in three domains: (1) improvement of facilities and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) supported learning environments, (2) enhancement of teacher professional and digital competencies through targeted training allocation, and (3) strengthening of student services reflected in increased extracurricular participation and reduced absenteeism rates. Financial transparency and stakeholder engagement further contribute to strengthened public trust and institutional accountability. This study contributes to educational management scholarship by presenting an evidence-based financing governance model integrating strategic planning, participatory decision-making, and continuous evaluation. The findings highlight that the effectiveness of educational financing depends not merely on the availability of funds but on strategic, transparent, and accountable management practices that align financial decisions with service quality improvement objectives.

Abstract

Students' understanding of elementary school social studies courses can be influenced by various internal and external factors, namely learning motivation and activity in the lecture process. This study aims to analyze the relationship between learning motivation and student activity with the understanding of basic elementary school social studies concepts in elementary school teacher education students. The approach in this study is a quantitative survey design with a cross-sectional design. There were 82 respondents, consisting of study groups E and F. The instruments used were questionnaires on learning motivation, activity, and understanding of elementary school social studies concepts. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics with JASP and Spearman's correlation test because the data were not normally distributed. The results of this study indicate a positive relationship between student activity and understanding of basic social studies concepts (p = 0.808; p < 0.001). Learning motivation has a significant positive relationship in the moderate category (p = 0.396; p < 0.001). In addition, there was a strong relationship between learning motivation and activity (p = 0.637; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that motivation and activity are important factors in building students' understanding of basic social studies concepts. The interrelationship between these two aspects is expected to support the effectiveness of the learning process in elementary school social studies basic concepts courses.

Abstract

Nature-based learning (NBL) is increasingly promoted in Indonesian elementary education to support contextual learning, sustainability, and 21st-century competencies. However, evidence on how the Indonesian research landscape has evolved remains fragmented. This study conducts a bibliometric mapping of NBL research in Indonesian elementary school contexts from 2015 to 2025. Using Publish or Perish with Google Scholar, 598 records were retrieved, merged, and cleaned in Zotero, and refined into 473 journal articles for analysis in VOSviewer. Publication output increased sharply after 2020 and peaked in 2025, indicating rapid growth of the field. Keyword co-occurrence mapping identified six clusters, dominated by environmental education and ecological literacy, teacher and implementation issues, Indonesia-specific context, and model or program development. Overlay visualization suggests a progression from early conceptual framing to impact-oriented studies, and more recently to integration and program implementation. Density mapping reveals that competency-specific outcomes remain underrepresented, particularly in social collaboration and critical thinking, and that implementation quality signals, such as teacher readiness and assessment alignment, appear less frequently than broad environmental themes. These findings clarify current emphases and gaps, and support future work that combines broader database coverage with systematic review and evaluative designs to measure competency development and curriculum integration for teachers, schools, and policymakers.
