WACANA SARASWATI : Majalah Ilmiah tentang Bahasa, Sastra, dan Pembelajarannya publishes manuscripts on research in language teaching, literature, and linguistics. This journal accepts submissions of manuscripts that will be published within the scope:  Linguistics; phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and critical discourse analysis. Abstract

This research purposed to describe character values in English learning to the eleventh-grade students at SMA Saraswati 1 Tabanan. The subjects of this research were an English teacher and 24 students. The techniques used to collect the data were observation, interview, and documentation. The data obtained were analysed by using qualitative data analysis. The result of this research showed that: (1) Character education was implemented in learning process, (2) Character education in this research was inserted by strategy of micro character development including teaching and learning in the classroom. Abstract

The process of communication and social interaction raises the tendency of a speaker to utilize the potential for language variations. One variation of the language is code switching and code mixing to maintain togetherness in the community. Code switching and code mixing are changes in the use of a particular language or variety of languages to other languages. This study aims to describe certain forms of code switching and interfering forms found in the Student and Student Dialogue in Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Mahasaraswati University (Unmas) Denpasar. The results of the study show that there is indeed code switching and code mixing in the Manggarai student and student dialogue. took place at the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program (PSP) Teacher Training and Education Faculty (FKIP) Mahasaraswati University Denpasar (Unmas). The forms of code switching and code mixing in the dialogues of Manggarai students and students are in the form of sentences and words. The factors that influence code switching and code mixing in the dialogues of Manggarai students and students take place, namely. Speakers or speakers, listeners or opponents of speech, habitual factors, changing situations, the presence of third people, changing situations from formal to informal, changing topic of conversation, forgetting local language, affirmation or to clarify, to trends and not to be outdated. Abstract

The use of language much morre depend on, when, who use it. This happens because of the dynamic characters of language. It means that languange will always develope in accordance with the development and dynamics of sociaty. Whether the language changes quickly or not it depends on intrinsic and extrinsic factors. Intrinsic factors consist of character of language itself namely, established, fleksible or adapted. Beside that the important thing in dynamics as of language is that how important the rule of the language as the referance of the other dialecs. Apart from the intrinsic factors. The extrimsics factors also have important rule in the dymamics of development of language. This concerning wheter. The language itself fungtion as a mean of unity or as the identity of the speakers. Abstract

Learning to identify the structure and linguistic elements of fantasy story texts has been taught in class VII B State Junior High School 6 Tabanan according to the 2013 curriculum. the average obtained by students is still relatively low. This happens because of the inaccuracy of the learning method applied by the teacher when the learning process takes place. Teachers theorize more, so students feel bored and less interested in participating in learning. This study aims to describe students' abilities in identifying the structure and linguistic elements of fantasy story texts before and after applying the discovery learning method and improving learning outcomes obtained by class VII B students of State Junior High School 6 Tabanan in the 2021/2022 academic year. Data collection methods used, namely the method of observation, test method and method of recording documents. Observation method was used to obtain data about students' attitudes and behavior. The test method is used to determine the students' ability to identify the structure and linguistic elements of fantasy story texts. The data analysis method used is descriptive analysis method. Based on the data analysis that has been carried out, the results obtained are, the average value of students in the pre-cycle is 65.00 then in the first cycle it increases to 73.82 with a percentage increase of 14.76% and in the second cycle it increases again to 84.41 with a percentage increase of 14.76%. an increase of 15.51%. Thus, if it is connected with the action hypothesis, the ability to identify the structure and linguistic elements of fantasy story texts by applying the discovery learning method for class VII B students of State Junior High School 6 Tabanan in the 2021/2022 school year increases significantly. Abstract

The implementation of the arranging words game in order to increase the students speaking abillities. The subjects of this research was the students of VIIIASMPN 2 Tampaksiring in the first semester of the academic year of 2020/2021. The writter choose this class because there were so many students still have less abilities in English, especially in speaking skill. The main purpose of this research is increasing students speaking abillities by the implementation a new teaching learning model. The data collecting methode is learning achievement test.The data analyze is descriptive to qualitative and quantitative data.The research revealed that The implementation of the arranging words game in order to increase the students learning achievement.We can see the students achievement can increase from the early cycle to the first cycle and to the second cycle.Finally,It can be concluded that the implementation of the arranging words game can increase the students achievement. Abstract

The spread of COVID-19 across the world influences different aspects of the world, one of which is education. There are many ways the government has done to keep it from expanding through social distance learning, one of which is through online distance learning. This study aimed to identify students’ perceptions of online learning experiences. The research was conducted at SMK CIS Bali with twenty tenth-grade students. Data were obtained using a questionnaire and interview to gather information on EFL students’ perceptions of interaction in online learning. Questionnaires are provided to students using the Google form after all content in one semester of online learning has been completed. The data collected from the questionnaire were quantitatively evaluated and qualitatively described. The findings revealed that students perceived a moderate level of interaction in online learning, but some reasonsaffected their interactions in online learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of verb phrase of Uab Meto (UM) in Miomaffo dialect; and to determine the types of verb phrase of that language. The type of this study is descriptive-qualitative. The data of this study were gathered through interview, recording and note-taking techniques. There were two kinds of data used in this study, that is to say, primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained through field studies (empirical research), while secondary data were obtained through literature studies. The data obtained was subsequently processed into a phonemic-orthographic transcription, and after that analyzed using the corresponding, split, and introspective methods. The results of this study showed that the verb phrase of UM has ruling constituents in the verb category, while the limiting constituents can be nouns, adjectives, adverbs, modals, aspects, verbs, and prepositions. First, the verb phrases of UM formed by verbs and nouns generally have the type of verb+object (VO) or modified-modifier. Second, the verb phrase of UM formed by the constituents of aspects, modals, and adverbs has two types, namely modifier-modified and modified-modifier. Third, the verb phrase of UM formed by the constituents of negation has a unique type, namely modifier-modified-modifier. Fourth, the verb phrase of UM formed by the adjective constituents only has one type, namely modified-modifier. Fifth, the verb phrase of UM formed by verbs also has different types, in which the subordinating verb phrase has the modified-modifier types, while the coordinating verb phrase has an equal relationship. Sixth, the verb phrase of UM is also derived from prepositional phrases which also have two types, namely modified-modifiermodifier, and modified-modifier.

Abstract

Jihadwatch.org is a website notorious for its anti-Islam news. However, no study focuses on how the website frames Islam itself. This study focuses on analyzing how Islam and Muslim the people who have Islam as their religion framed in the website. The Corpus approach is chosen in this research. It is chosen as it offers a quantitative approach to the data. This quantitative approach hopefully avoids subjectivity in the analysis. The data was taken in November 2017. Using collocation feature in corpus software, Islam is framed as a radical religion, trying to convert everybody, and the ideology is not suited in the west. Besides that, Muslims are framed as migrants, violent, and cannot accept the western lifestyle. Further research with more extensive data is required for further analysis. The next researcher can also analyze the website in the opposite extreme pro-Islam movement.

Abstract

The aims of the study are to classify and describe the literal translation and idiomatic translation. The theory used in this research is translation theory proposed by Larson. The words or phrases are obtained from the novel entitled The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan. The result of this study are all kinds of translation such as literal and idiomatic translation and those seven procedures of translation such as borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, modulation, equivalence and adaptation could be applied in order to translate the source language into target language.

Abstract

The translation of Indonesian transitivity into English involves the identification of a process type, of way participants are presented (as actor, goal, affected entity, etc.), and the circumstances in which the process takes place. Since SL and TL may differ because of a large number of factors, there are wide of potential shifts in the translation of transitivity. This research applies qualitative approach in which the data was analyzed descriptively. The data was taken from bilingual newsletter (Indonesian-English) entitled “Pasar Tradisional di Era Persaingan Global”; Traditional Market in the Era of Global Competition”.They are the theory of transitivity process categories by Halliday (1985), types of transitivity shifts by Perez (2007).The data was collected through observation methods by comparing, note taking, marking, classifying, and identifying. The transitivity shifts occurred in categories of lexical unit and the syntactic structure. Meanwhile, the transitivity shifts caused by the different interpretation by the translators in order to provide a different picture to the reader without changing the message to be conveyed. Based on the analysis, there are no significant impacts of the transitivity shifts found.
