Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has transformed social media into an influential platform for communication, knowledge dissemination, and religious learning. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), social media has increasingly functioned as an alternative learning resource that enables Islamic teachings to be delivered in more interactive, flexible, and accessible forms. This study aims to examine the role of social media as a learning resource for Islamic Religious Education, particularly in relation to educational innovation and value distortion within digital religious content. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using netnography and content analysis. The primary data source was the YouTube content Belajar Islam Pake Logika featuring Ustaz Felix Siauw on Raymond Chin’s channel, supported by audience comments, digital interactions, and relevant scholarly literature. The findings indicate that social media contributes significantly to the transformation of Islamic learning through rational communication, audiovisual interaction, and participatory learning environments that align with the characteristics of digital-native generations. Rational approaches in digital da‘wah encourage critical thinking, accessibility, and contextual understanding of Islamic teachings. However, the study also reveals significant challenges, including misinformation, oversimplification of religious teachings, pseudo-religious authority, and the commodification of religion driven by algorithmic visibility and popularity. These conditions may contribute to value distortion and fragmented religious understanding among audiences. Therefore, strengthening digital religious literacy is essential to ensure critical and responsible engagement with online religious content. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on rational digital da‘wah as both an innovative pedagogical strategy and a site of value contestation within social media environments.

Abstract

This article examines deconstruction as a critical reading strategy against the binary opposition system embedded in structural semiotics. Ferdinand de Saussure's structural semiotics built its foundation upon binary opposition principles such as signifier, langue, and synchrony, which are considered stable and hierarchical. However, Jacques Derrida through the concept of différance fundamentally challenges this stability by arguing that meaning is never fully present but always deferred and differentiated through an endless chain of signifiers. This study employs a qualitative library research method by analyzing primary texts from Derrida and Saussure alongside secondary sources from relevant philosophical and linguistic literature. The results demonstrate that deconstruction does not destroy the semiotic system but rather opens a space of free play of meaning that structural semiotics attempted to close. Différance as a reading strategy reveals that every sign always carries a trace of what it excludes, so that binary opposition is never truly stable. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of poststructuralist philosophy of language and offers a critical perspective for reading texts beyond rigid structural boundaries.

Abstract

This study examines the discourse of marriage dispensation in contemporary Islamic family law in Indonesia through the archaeology of knowledge approach. The research focuses on identifying discursive formations, epistemes shaping legal knowledge, power relations in the production of legality, and epistemological reconstruction of marriage dispensation within Islamic legal perspectives. This qualitative library research analyzes legal regulations, religious court decisions, and contemporary academic literature. The findings reveal that marriage dispensation is shaped by three main discourses: child protection, preventive morality, and judicial pragmatism. Legal knowledge regarding marriage dispensation is constructed through contestation between classical fiqh episteme, modern child protection paradigms, and contextual judicial rationality. Power relations among the state, judges, religious authorities, and society produce regimes of truth that determine the legality of marriage dispensation. This study recommends an epistemological reconstruction grounded in integrative maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, empirical interdisciplinary approaches, and child centered protection to achieve substantive justice within Indonesian Islamic family law.

Abstract

This article explores the issue of verbal abuse within students’ virtual interactions from the standpoint of Islamic educational ethics. The increasing use of virtual communication platforms, particularly WhatsApp, has reshaped the way university students engage in academic and social communication. Despite offering efficiency and accessibility, virtual interaction also creates ethical vulnerabilities, including the emergence of ridicule, degrading remarks, offensive expressions, and other forms of verbal aggression in online conversations. This study adopts a qualitative library research design employing normative and thematic interpretative approaches. The data were obtained from Qur’anic verses, contemporary tafsir literature, academic books, and previous studies concerning virtual communication, cyber interaction, and Islamic education. The analysis was conducted using content analysis by synthesizing perspectives from communication theory, the online disinhibition effect, and Islamic ethical principles. The study reveals that verbal aggression in students’ virtual spaces is influenced by the weakening of social restraint in online environments, the text-oriented nature of digital communication, and insufficient ethical awareness in media engagement. From the perspective of Islamic education, QS. Al-Ḥujurāt verse 11 emphasizes the prohibition of mockery, humiliation, and derogatory labeling because such behavior undermines human dignity and social harmony. Contemporary interpretations proposed by Wahbah al-Zuhaili, Muhammad al-Tahir Ibn Ashur, and Sayyid Qutb demonstrate that Islamic communication ethics remain highly relevant in responding to verbal misconduct within contemporary virtual environments. This study highlights the importance of integrating digital literacy with moral and character education to encourage a more respectful, ethical, and civilized academic communication culture.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the relationship between sharia, fiqh, and qanun from a siyāsah syar'iyyah perspective by examining historical practices during the Ottoman Empire and the Mamluk Dynasty. This research uses qualitative methods with a library study approach, drawing on classical and contemporary literature on Islamic law and Islamic political history. The results show that sharia serves as the primary normative source, fiqh as the dynamic interpretation of Islamic scholars, and qanun as an implementable form of codification of state law. From a siyāsah syar'iyyah perspective, these three elements form an integrative and adaptive relationship in responding to societal needs. Studies of the Ottoman period demonstrate a legal dualism between sharia and qanun that developed into a complex legal system, particularly during the Tanzimat period. Meanwhile, during the Mamluk period and the development of law in Egypt, a transformation from the dominance of fiqh to a legal system influenced by modern codification and Western law is evident. Thus, the relationship between sharia, fiqh, and qanun is not static, but rather dynamic and contextual, and oriented toward achieving public welfare as the primary goal of Islamic law.

Abstract

Unregistered marriage constitutes a legal issue that potentially threatens legal certainty regarding children’s identity rights in both Indonesia and Malaysia. This study aims to analyze the role of the state in guaranteeing legal certainty for the identity rights of children born from unregistered marriages, as well as to identify the similarities and differences in the legal regulations of the two countries. This research is a normative legal study employing statutory, conceptual, and comparative approaches. The primary legal materials in Indonesia include Law Number 1 of 1974 concerning Marriage, Law Number 24 of 2013 concerning Population Administration, the Compilation of Islamic Law, and the Constitutional Court Decision Number 46/PUU-VIII/2010. Meanwhile, the primary legal materials in Malaysia include the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 and the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1957. The findings indicate that Indonesia adopts a corrective-progressive approach through the mechanism of isbat nikah (marriage validation) and Constitutional Court Decision Number 46/PUU-VIII/2010, which allows the recognition of civil relations between a child and the biological father based on scientific evidence. In contrast, Malaysia applies a stricter preventive-institutional approach through the Islamic Family Law Act 1984 under the supervision of the Syariah Court. The similarities between the two countries lie in the obligation of marriage registration, the role of religious courts, and their adherence to the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). The principal differences are found in the recognition of civil relations between children and biological fathers, the marriage registration system (centralized versus decentralized), the existence of criminal sanctions, and the orientation of child protection policies. This study recommends the harmonization of regulations based on the principle of the best interests of the child as the foundation for developing responsive Islamic family law policies oriented toward the protection of children’s rights

Abstract

This study aims to describe and compare the curriculum design and education system implementation in an Integrated Islamic Elementary School (SDIT) as a religion-based private institution and a Public Elementary School (SDN) as a public institution. The approach adopted in this research is descriptive qualitative utilizing a comparative study method. Primary data were gathered through in-depth interviews with the Principal of SDIT Labschool Al Fatah and the quality assurance coordinator of SDN Margahayu XIX. The findings indicate that both institutions have implemented the Merdeka Curriculum as their operational foundation; however, significant disparities exist in philosophical orientation, learning concepts, and infrastructural readiness. SDIT Labschool Al Fatah employs a holistic curriculum design that integrates Islamic values and science through a student-centered learning approach, supported by comprehensive information technology (IT) facilities. Conversely, SDN Margahayu XIX focuses on the standard government general curriculum that is inclusive, applying a modified conventional (teacher-centered) method, where the primary challenges lie in limited digital infrastructure and teacher resource readiness. Although the curriculum transition process encountered obstacles such as a learning lag during the adaptation phase in both schools, this new regulation has proven effective in mapping and directing students' interests and talents. In general, this study concludes that institutional status directly shapes the characteristics, culture, and learning ecosystem in responding to national education policies.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the unclear boundaries of immigration officers’ discretion in the implementation of Administrative Immigration Actions (TAK), which has implications for the potential imposition of criminal sanctions. Discretion, as an instrument of administrative law, is fundamentally intended to address legal limitations in concrete situations. However, in practice, such discretion often leads to multiple interpretations and may be classified as an abuse of authority. The main issue lies in the blurred distinction between administrative authority and criminal violations, resulting in legal uncertainty and the risk of criminalizing immigration officers. This study aims to analyze the normative limits of discretion, examine its implications for criminal sanctions, and formulate efforts to strengthen legal certainty. The research employs a normative juridical method with statutory, conceptual, and case approaches. The data consist of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials analyzed using qualitative descriptive methods. The findings indicate that the ambiguity in the limits of discretion leads to an overlap between administrative and criminal law, thereby increasing the potential for criminalization. Therefore, it is necessary to clarify the boundaries of discretion, strengthen technical regulations, and harmonize legal frameworks to ensure legal certainty and protection.

Abstract

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in enhancing student activeness within the tahfidz program under the Full Day School system at MI Miftahul Afkar Bumiayu in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research was motivated by the varying levels of student participation during tahfidz learning activities despite the intensive learning environment provided by the Full Day School system. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that PAI teachers play significant roles as educators, motivators, facilitators, and evaluators in improving students’ physical, mental, and emotional activeness during tahfidz learning. Teachers applied various learning methods such as murāja’ah, talaqqi, memorization deposits, educational games, question-and-answer sessions, and digital media to create an interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere. Supporting factors included a religious school environment, adequate learning facilities, the structured Full Day School program, and collaboration between teachers and parents. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors included students’ physical fatigue, differences in memorization abilities, limited murāja’ah time at home, and learning boredom due to long study hours. Therefore, the success of the tahfidz program in the Full Day School system is strongly influenced by the ability of PAI teachers to manage active, innovative, and student-centered learning.

Abstract

This article presents a comparative study of the Islamic reformist thought of Jamaluddin al-Afghani and Muhammad Abduh as responses to European colonialism and the epistemological crisis facing the Muslim world in the nineteenth century. Although both figures are often treated as representatives of a homogeneous intellectual tradition, this study reveals fundamental divergences in their epistemological foundations, reform agendas, and methods of change. Employing a qualitative library research approach with historical, analytical, and comparative methods, this study finds that al-Afghani constructed a politically militant epistemology that positioned reason as an instrument of resistance against colonial hegemony, while Abduh developed a more systematic theological rationalism emphasizing the harmonization of reason and revelation. Regarding their reform agendas, both agreed that Islamic revival does not entail Westernization, yet differed in their priorities: al-Afghani privileged top-down political transformation, whereas Abduh prioritized bottom-up educational and institutional reform. The study concludes that these two approaches are complementary rather than contradictory, and that both remain highly relevant for contemporary Muslim societies, particularly Indonesia, in addressing the challenges of radicalism, intolerance, and modernization.
