Abstract

This study explores the uncharted territory of integrating drama into literature and language teaching aiming to unveil its untapped potential for English language learning Titled Toward Literature and Language Teaching: Uncovering the Potential of Drama for English Learning this research embarks on a systematic examination of the benefits derived from the symbiotic relationship between drama and language acquisition The investigation delves into existing literature on the subject acknowledging drama as a powerful pedagogical tool Drawing inspiration from Budiarto s assertion that Drama is a powerful teaching tool the study positions itself within the broader discourse on innovative language teaching methodologies The primary focus lies in unraveling the multifaceted advantages of incorporating drama in language instruction emphasizing its relevance in literature based language learning The geographical emphasis of the study aligns with the prevalence of current research in Asian countries primarily those where English is taught as a foreign language This geographical lens aims to uncover unique challenges and opportunities influenced by socio cultural backgrounds Furthermore the study examines participant diversity encompassing English education majors students from various educational levels and teachers providing a comprehensive understanding of the varied impacts of drama on different stakeholders As the study navigates through the benefits accrued by students teachers and the broader educational landscape it contributes to the ongoing discourse on effective language teaching methodologies The abstract encapsulates the essence of the research offering a preview of the journey toward unraveling the latent potential of drama for English learning within the context of literature and language teaching< em>< p>

Abstract

Video assignments become an increasingly popular tool in education nowadays It offers students a dynamic and engaging way to demonstrate their understanding and performance This research focuses on the students analysis of EFL students video assignments The aims of this research are to find out how much the students understand assignment and how well they manage the contents of their videos Qualitative research and video analysis framework were used in this study to collect and analyse the data of the EFL students who study in their third year at the research site The eight videos were adopted from the EFL students to analyse and collect the data The study found three elements of videos structure such as introduction body and conclusion of the videos EFL students greeted audiences introduced topic structure expectation and engaged interests in the introduction part of the video During the videos students mostly used body languages facial expression voice of tone pronunciation and topic comprehension However students missed using some contents in the conclusion of the videos comprising quotation recommendation and asking for giving comments from audiences for the improvement of their videos Additionally this study may serve as a reference or motivation for further research in the same area This research suggests future researchers to focus on vid1eo analysis in different context participants and analytical framework to minimize the research gaps Classroom teachers should use these results to improve the quality of video assignments in their class < em>< p>

Abstract

Since its emergence TikTok has expanded as a social media platform by facilitating the spread of educational content particularly English language learning which has become increasingly attractive to students in Indonesia This study explores students perceptions of TikTok s effectiveness in enhancing English proficiency By focusing on emotional experiences and practical usage it fills a gap in the literature and provides a deeper understanding of TikTok s educational impact A qualitative approach involving 70 social media active students was employed Data were gathered through questionnaires and interviews assessing social media use and perceived platform effectiveness Results showed a strong preference for TikTok as a supplementary English learning tool due to its accessibility and engaging content However issues like internet connectivity and privacy concerns were noted In conclusion TikTok has potential as a resource for language practice and skill improvement suggesting the need to integrate social media into educational strategies for more interactive learning environments < em>< p>

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics of the major and minor characters in Ernest Hemingway s novel The Old Man and the Sea Employing a qualitative descriptive design the research delves into the portrayal of human traits through the novel s characters The findings reveal that Hemingway skillfully encapsulates various human qualities and struggles in his characters Santiago the protagonist embodies perseverance and resilience despite facing prolonged adversity going eighty four days without catching a fish His eventual capture of the Marlin a massive eighteen foot long fish represents not just a personal victory but also the relentless struggle against forces beyond his control as he ultimately loses the Marlin Manolin a minor character is depicted as a loyal and compassionate boy who supports and cares deeply for Santiago Their bond is marked by mutual respect and a shared passion for baseball highlighting themes of mentorship friendship and intergenerational connection Through these characters Hemingway portrays the universal human experience of determination loss and the enduring strength of relationships < em>< p>

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of the local dialect on students speaking abilities focusing specifically on the Makassar Gowa dialect It examines how the accent and features of the students first language can affect their proficiency in speaking English particularly in multicultural contexts The research explores challenges arising from dialectal interference and factors related to the mother tongue that impact oral performance Using a quantitative descriptive method data were collected through closed ended questionnaires The findings reveal that the local dialect plays a multifaceted role in shaping students speaking skills While dialectal influence poses certain challenges it also has positive implications Students who embrace their local dialect tend to exhibit greater confidence and motivation in learning English Moreover leveraging the local dialect in teaching strategies encourages active learning and enhances oral communication Teachers can utilize these insights to create a supportive learning environment incorporating various media and facilities to improve students speaking proficiency This study highlights the importance of understanding linguistic diversity in educational settings and underscores the potential of dialect sensitive approaches to foster better engagement and learning outcomes for English language learners< em>< p>

Abstract

This study employs a document study to investigate the tasks and TBLT framework used in Indonesian English classrooms < em>Through a rigorous examination of existing literature and empirical research this study will elucidate how these practices contribute to the development of communicative competence a core tenet of the Merdeka Curriculum< em> < em>Several recent studies past five years on TBLT practices have been identified through a review of open access journals < em>The findings reveal a prevalence of authentic tasks consistent with expert recommendations but with varying levels of authenticity In addition implementing TBLT generally aligns with established principles particularly those proposed by Willis but only a few adaptations are made to suit local teaching and learning goals While these findings suggest a positive trend further analysis is needed to identify potential areas for improvement and inform future TBLT practices in Indonesian classrooms < em>< p>

Abstract

The present research study examined the effectiveness of skimming and scanning techniques in enhancing students reading comprehension particularly in fostering their critical thinking and problem solving skills in learning reading comprehension Thus this research aimed to investigate the efficacy of using skimming and scanning as reading strategies to improve students achievement in reading comprehension at a public high school in Battambang The study involved students at the elementary level of Lvea High School in Bavel District Battambang Province The total population consisted of 350 students with 47 students chosen as the sample for this research through purposive sampling The researcher employed an experimental design with one class receiving the treatment Data were collected through a pre test post test and questionnaire The results indicated a statistically significant difference between the pre test and post test scores The mean score of the post test 77 48 was higher than the mean score of the pre test 32 03 Additionally the t score 8 62 was greater than the t table value 2 013 at a significance level of p lt;0 05 for a two tailed test with a degree of freedom of 46 Furthermore the questionnaire results showed that most of the students responded positively to use skimming and scanning techniques in reading comprehension Based on the findings it can be concluded that skimming and scanning techniques significantly enhance students reading comprehension achievement and are appropriate for implementation < em>< p>

Abstract

This study explores the perceived role of English in maritime education at the Merchant Marine Polytechnic of Barombong specifically questioning whether Maritime English is treated as a core or supplementary subject Employing a quantitative approach data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to 100 cadets The findings reveal a strong consensus among cadets regarding the importance of English in enhancing communication skills building professional confidence and supporting future career opportunities in the global maritime industry Despite this Maritime English remains marginalized within the curriculum often taught separately from technical subjects and allocated minimal instructional time The study identifies a significant gap between cadets linguistic needs and the current pedagogical approach The results also align with similar local research in Indonesia indicating a national trend of underemphasizing Maritime English in seafaring education This research concludes with a recommendation to reposition Maritime English as a main course integrated into practical and technical maritime training to better prepare cadets for international standards and global work environments < em>< p>

Abstract

This research investigates how e portfolio assessment is perceived by students and how it helps them develop self assessment abilities in the EFL classroom The research adopted qualitative descriptive case research method for an in depth exploration of students perceptions and development of self assessment skill regarding e portfolio assessment in EFL classroom at STAI Al Gazali Bone Data were gathered using a semi structured interview consisting ten questions to measure the Students Perceptions of the benefits and challenges of using e portfolio assessment in the EFL classroom The findings of this research reveal that e portfolio assessment has a significant impact on students learning experiences in the EFL classroom particularly in enhancing self assessment motivation and engagement Students generally expressed positive perceptions toward the use of e portfolio citing its flexibility ease of access and ability to accommodate a variety of task formats text audio video as major benefits Another important finding is the development of self assessment skills Students engaged in reflective activities such as reviewing their progress comparing their work with peers and analyzing feedback Despite the benefits students also reported several challenges Technical issues such as unstable internet connections and unclear instructions were common obstacles In summary while e portfolio assessment offers meaningful advantages for language learning and reflective practice its effectiveness depends on how it is implemented the support provided by lecturers and the technological readiness of both students and the institution < em>< p> nbsp;< strong>Keywords: < em>< strong>E portfolio assessment self assessment students perception EFL classroom< em>< p>

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether or not there was a correlation between differentiated learning and students English scores The research was conducted at UPT SMAN 14 Jeneponto with data collected through questionnaires distributed to students and from English teachers The results of the correlation analysis using the Pearson Product Moment showed a correlation coefficient of 0 522 indicating a quite strong correlation between differentiated learning and students English scores This suggests that differentiated learning had a positive influence on students academic performance in English Although the correlation was not very strong the findings indicated that when students were taught according to their individual needs interests and learning styles their English achievement tended to improve It can be concluded that differentiated learning contributed to students English learning outcomes < em>< p>
