Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level of motivation and the difficulties faced by non-Chinese students in learning Mandarin at SMA Methodist-6 Medan. The background of this research is the increasing demand for Mandarin proficiency in Indonesia, following the growing bilateral relations between Indonesia and China and the increasing career opportunities requiring Mandarin skills. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method, where data is collected through questionnaires distributed to non-Chinese students. The results show that most students have high motivation to learn Mandarin, particularly instrumental motivation related to career opportunities. However, the main difficulties they face lie in writing and speaking skills, which are caused by the structural differences between Mandarin and Indonesian, as well as limited opportunities to practice outside the school environment. Additionally, there is an indication of a gap between students' high motivation and their actual ability to overcome linguistic barriers. The Pearson correlation test results show a weak and insignificant positive relationship between motivation and learning difficulties. Based on these findings, it is suggested that a more contextual and communicative learning approach should be applied to address the learning difficulties faced by students and improve their Mandarin language skills.

Abstract

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by pruritus and recurrent skin lesions, affecting a significant percentage of children globally. The prevalence of AD is rising, particularly in Asian populations, potentially due to rapid urbanization and environmental changes. This systematic review explores the impact of intrauterine antibiotic exposure on the risk of developing AD in Asian children, considering the multifactorial nature of the disease influenced by genetic and environmental factors. Objectives: The primary objective of this review is to synthesize existing research on the correlation between maternal antibiotic exposure during pregnancy and the incidence of AD in offspring within Asian populations. The review aims to identify potential modifiable risk factors and elucidate the underlying mechanisms contributing to AD development. Methods: The review adhered to the 2020 PRISMA guidelines, conducting a comprehensive literature search using PubMed and Cochrane Library. The search strategy focused on studies published in English between 2000 and 2025, involving keywords related to antibiotics, maternal exposure, and atopic dermatitis. Inclusion criteria encompassed studies with healthy mothers and accessible full texts, while exclusion criteria involved studies lacking essential details. Results: The review included 6 prospective cohort studies from China, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, with a total sample sizes of 1.073.245 mother-children pairs ranging from 412 to 900,584 participants. The studies employed various methods to assess antibiotic exposure, including maternal urine samples, parent-reported data, and medical records. Results varied, with some studies indicating a significant correlation between antibiotic exposure and increased AD risk, while others found no association. The inconsistency in findings highlights the complexity of AD and the influence of genetic and environmental factors. Discussion: The findings suggest a multifaceted relationship between maternal antibiotic exposure and AD risk, potentially mediated by alterations in gut microbiota and immune system development. The variability in results underscores the need for standardized methodologies and further research to clarify the mechanisms involved. The review emphasizes the importance of considering genetic predisposition and environmental influences in understanding AD etiology. Conclusion: This systematic review indicates a possible link between prenatal antibiotic exposure and AD in Asian children, though evidence remains inconclusive. Further research is necessary to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and identify modifiable risk factors. Understanding the impact of antibiotics on AD progression could inform clinical practices and public health strategies, potentially leading to targeted interventions to reduce AD prevalence in high-risk populations.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease with rising global prevalence, posing significant morbidity and mortality challenges. Skilled nurses play a pivotal role in DM management through holistic care, yet disparities in nursing knowledge, self-management practices, and resource limitations hinder optimal outcomes. This scoping review aims to map proficient nursing practices in DM care, identify barriers to effective self-management, and evaluate the impact of nurse-led interventions on patient outcomes. A systematic search was conducted on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar (2015–2025) using keywords like "skilled nursing practice" and "diabetes mellitus." From 325 identified articles, 20 met inclusion criteria and were analyzed thematically. Key findings revealed: (1) a strong correlation between nurses’ knowledge/attitudes and quality of care; (2) socioeconomic and educational barriers to patient self-management; and (3) the cost-effectiveness and efficacy of nurse-led interventions in improving glycemic control (e.g., reduced HbA1c levels) and patient satisfaction. The study underscores the need for standardized nursing training, enhanced patient education, and policy support to address workforce shortages. By bridging knowledge gaps and optimizing nurse-led models, this review contributes to global DM care standards, advocating for scalable, patient-centered interventions.

Abstract

This paper is entitled "Juridical Analysis of the Authority of the Honorary Assembly of the Constitutional Court on Allegations of Violations of the Code of Ethics (In MKMK Decision Number: 5/MKMK/L/11/2023)." The main focus of this paper is to examine the violation of the code of ethics of Constitutional Court judges in the case testing process, as well as to analyze the impact of these decisions on the integrity of the institution. This research was conducted with a normative juridical approach, which relies on secondary data in the form of laws and regulations, legal doctrines, and related court decisions. The results of the study show that there is a violation of fundamental principles such as independence, impartiality, and integrity by the judge in the case under review. These violations have a serious impact on the credibility of the Constitutional Court, raise public doubts about the neutrality of the institution, and set a bad precedent for the Indonesian legal system. In addition, weaknesses in the supervision mechanism and the application of the judge's code of ethics are also factors that worsen the situation. This study recommends strengthening the authority of the Constitutional Court Honorary Assembly, drafting a more specific code of ethics, and implementing stricter and more transparent supervision mechanisms. This effort is expected to increase accountability and maintain the integrity of the Constitutional Court as an institution that safeguards the rule of law.

Abstract

The Indonesian Army Military Academy (Akmil) in Magelang, established on October 31, 1945, plays a key role in the education and development of career officers for the Indonesian Army (TNI AD). This research aims to evaluate the design of a new Main Hall facility at Akmil, focusing on the use of terracotta materials for its façade. This study employs a quantitative research method with a descriptive approach, supported by qualitative insights from interviews. The primary objective is to empirically assess the psychological impact of terracotta materials on the façade of the Main Hall at Akmil. Data collection involves questionnaires and surveys targeting cadet soldiers to assess their visual perceptions, emotional responses, and preferences regarding the terracotta façade. The proposed design using terracotta materials for the façade is anticipated to enhance both the physical and emotional appeal of the Main Hall. The use of terracotta is expected to create a welcoming, symbolic landmark that reinforces Akmil’s institutional identity and the pride of its personnel. The new Main Hall, incorporating terracotta, promises to address the space limitations while enhancing the psychological and symbolic value of the building. This upgrade will strengthen Akmil’s role as a leading institution in military education. The findings provide insights into how architectural design can contribute to both functional efficiency and emotional well-being in military institutions. This research offers recommendations for future military building designs, emphasizing the importance of material selection for promoting institutional pride and identity.

Abstract

This study involved three variables, namely self-efficacy (X1), emotional intelligence (X2), and anxiety of public speaking (Y). The research sample consists of 175 students from the class of 2017 (semester 2) at Satya Wacana Christian University (Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana, UKSW), representing 13 existing faculties. This study uses a quantitative method with a sampling technique employing random sampling. The data collection technique utilized is scale distribution. The variable of public speaking anxiety uses a scale from Bartholomay & Houlihan (2016), which consists of 17 items. The self-efficacy variable uses the scale of Ralf Schwarzer and his colleagues (in Zhou, 2015), which consists of 10 items, and the emotional intelligence variable uses the scale of Schutte et al. (in Jonker & Vosloo, 2008), which consists of 29 items. The results of the study prove that: 1) Self-efficacy independently can be a predictor for the emergence of public speaking anxiety in UKSW students; 2) Emotional intelligence independently cannot play a role as a predictor for the emergence of public speaking anxiety in UKSW students; and 3) Self-efficacy and emotional intelligence together can play a role as a predictor, accounting for 12.7% of the appearance of public speaking anxiety in UKSW students.

Abstract

The civil court process is certainly different from other types of courts, such as criminal, administrative, military, and international courts. Civil courts are quite unique and complex, with judges tending to be passive, placing the burden of proof on the parties involved in the case. The agenda for hearing witness testimony is a crucial aspect of this process, and it is essential that both parties—the plaintiff and the defendant—respect and adhere to the applicable civil court procedures, such as those outlined in the HIR (High Court Regulations) applicable in Java and Madura, and the Rbg (Regional Court Regulations) applicable outside Java and Madura. This article aims to emphasize that the parties involved in the case should not arbitrarily withdraw their claims or unilaterally refuse to attend the scheduled hearing agenda, to prevent any abuse of power between one party and another, where one party prioritizes their own rights without considering the dignity of the court or the rights of others.
