Abstract

This study sought to identify the life skills of sports students based on gender and place of residence. 97 Indonesian sports students that participated in the study's intake class technique served as the sample. The data is gathered using the LSSS (Life Skills Scale for Sports). The Independent Sample t-test from SPSS version 22 was analyzed using the ex post facto approach. This study's findings show no statistically significant difference in life skills between genders (p = 0.101) and significant differences between domiciles (p = 0.013). It is proposed that additional research examine the how and why of these findings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Australian sports diplomacy toward Asia. According to the sports diplomacy expert Dr. Stuart Murray, "Sports-diplomacy exchanges can promote international understanding and friendship, as well as dispel stereotypes and prejudices." Australia is an Oceanian state well-known for its sports excellence and culture. Because of its geographical location and history, Asian partners have never been neglected or forgotten by the administrators since Britain colonized the land in 1788. Over the years, there has been a clear trend that Australia is employing its sports diplomacy and increasingly engaging with Asia. This study uses the Australian basketball engagement towards Asia as an example of its sports diplomacy towards Asia. Reviewing the Australian government's official guiding documents,' Australia in the Asian Century White Paper, Australian Sports Diplomacy Strategy 2015-18, Sports Diplomacy 2030, the authors conclude that Australia is increasingly engaging with Asia with its sports diplomacy, including basketball diplomacy. As a result, Australia has acquired a better international reputation and international relations in Asia. Hence, sports diplomacy has become a valuable tool for Australia to exert soft power and enhance international relations in Asia.

Abstract

Fabric theory, also known as "process theory", refers to the fact that the society consists of interdependent groups and their interacting network throughout history. The macro society and micro individuals are inseparable. In this paper, the author analyzed the Nobel Elias’s "fabric theory" and the European fox hunting activity. The author shall use references, historical research, logic and other research methods, aiming to figure out the evolution process of civilization that European fox hunting implied. Besides, the author tried to the development of competitive sports and social sports in China. In this paper, through the study of the fabric theory to promote the development of civilization, fox hunting revealed the political violence of the British parliamentary system. Stokevis’s critique of Elias showed that: European civilization has achieved rationality. 2. Based on the fabric theory, China's competitive sports and social sports are the outcome of civilization change. Thus, while reading Elias' representative work ‘The Progress of Civilization’, combined with the study on European fox hunting, we can get insights into the evolution of European civilization through the fabric theory. In addition, owing to civilization development, we may reduce violence in sports, which is conducive to the construction of Chinese social sports and competitive sports tradition. Thus, the research could make contributions to the development of civilization.

Abstract

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus epidemic, the impact on social development and the economy has been unprecedented. To prevent the COVID-19 epidemic, China has introduced a series of policies and measures, including home isolation and vaccine. However, working, studying, and living at home for a long time also bring unprecedented pressure on people's physical and mental health, which restricts people's work, communication, and participation in community activities. Public spaces like stadiums and gymnasiums have increasingly opened up due to the normalizing measures for epidemic prevention and control. People's thirst for sports and social activities has correspondingly grown. Ultimate Frisbee has become one of the most popular sports among young people because of its low participation threshold, sportswear fashion, engagement, and strong social content between men and women in their competition. In order to further support the rapid growth of Ultimate Frisbee in China, this study uses the techniques of literature review, questionnaire, interview, mathematical statistics, and logical analysis to examine the influences of Ultimate Frisbee on individual physical and mental health, interpersonal communication, economic development, and cultural development.

Abstract

Outdoor sports activities require excellent skills in situations of high physical stress, so physical condition plays a vital role in supporting the success of mountaineering. Objectives; This study aims to test the validity and reliability of the physical fitness and motor fitness components as a reference for determining the optimal physical performance of mountain climbers. Methods; The method used is Research and Development, the participants this 7 mountaineers on 18 peaks for 12 days at an altitude of 3000 MDPL in Indonesia. The sampling technique used was total sampling. The analysis used is content validity and construct validity. Data analysis was carried out, namely the first to sixth steps, namely the stage of developing standard indicators for physical abilities components in terms of physical fitness and motor fitness. The seventh to tenth steps are the instrument development stage. The small-scale test was used as a product development trial to test the validity and reliability of the test instrument. A large-scale test to develop norms and standards for assessing mountaineer's physical abilities test instruments. Result; The components of developing the physical abilities test for mountaineers include physical fitness factors, including cardiorespiratory endurance fitness (Balke test), muscular strength and power (jump decathlon test), muscular endurance (wall squat test), flexibility (Static Flexibility Test – Hip and Trunk), body composition (BMI and % fat content). Motor fitness factors include speed (running 35 m speed test), agility (hexagonal obstacle test), coordination (Hand and eye coordination test), balance (standing stroke test), and reaction time (whole-body reaction). Conclusion; the physical abilities component of mountaineers has a substantial correlation value, and the test instrument can be used as an evaluation method to measure mountaineers' physical and motor fitness.

Abstract

Concerned with many of the abuses ascribed to students and athletes, an increasing number of administrators, physical educators, coaches, and observers of sports believe that it has the potential to shape character. The potential impact of sports and physical education on character development is discussed in program administration and teaching/coaching behavior. Specific practices such as conditional scholarships, non-graduation of athletes, gender bias, modeling, drill, explanation and demonstration, encouraging athletes to play when injured, "running up the score," and performance evaluation are addressed. If students and athletes are important in sports and physical education, then character development should be an important aim of sports and physical education.

Abstract

This paper will report on the What's the Evidence project scoping review findings, which aim to identify indicators of teacher quality from a holistic perspective. This Australian study deliberately deviates from the commonly used professional standards that often only focus on teaching in order to provide a more comprehensive understanding of teacher quality. To achieve this, a scoping review was conducted as the most comprehensive method of examining contemporary research (2011-2021) for indicators of teacher quality. The PRISMA-ScR structure was utilized for the review process, with a team of 11 researchers engaging in multiple screening processes. The original publication total of 20,854 was reduced to 1,078 publications for indicator analysis and coding. Through content analysis guided by our construct of teacher quality, these indicators were categorized into seven sets containing 51 indicator categories. These findings were then explored by teaching areas, including Physical Education.
