Abstract

Introduction: Professional nursing caring behaviors can be learned through education. Indonesian research on this area remains limited. This study explores the development of nursing students' professional caring behaviors and clinical learning processes that support them. Method:This ethnographic study involved 34 observations of nursing student clinical practices, field notes, and six focus group discussions with students and clinical instructors from three nursing education institutions across three provinces. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative content analysis. Result: Ten themes revealed: professional nursing caring behaviors are understood as altruistic behaviours, holistic, therapeutic, and bureaucratic dimensions; instrumental caring predominates in student clinical practices; physical interventions serve as the entry point for communication; the provision of information is dominant in interpersonal communication; cultural sensitivity and touching are expressions of caring behaviors; clinical role models, knowledge, and experience are vital in developing professional caring behaviors; patient negative responses, clinical workload, and patient complexity pose challenges in developing professional nursing caring behaviors; insufficient clinical mentoring impacts the achievement of competencies; students' lack of self-confidence is perceived as 'uncaring' behaviors; and there is insufficient collaboration to ensure the attainment of non-instrumental caring competencies. Conclusion: Students' competencies in professional caring behaviors evolve during their educational journey, though the focus remains on instrumental caring. Knowledge, clinical exposure, experiences, role models, and self-confidence are crucial in enhancing professional nursing caring competencies. Clinical learning guidelines, such as preceptorship and collaborative learning models in professional nursing caring competencies, should be considered to develop the skills.

Abstract

Introduction: Current learning methods are constantly evolving. Professional Nurse Program Students need effective learning methods to improve students’ abilities and skills in achieving competencies, and one of the competencies is standard precautions. Virtual care reality video3600 can be an alternative solution for students’ actual and concrete learning methods. This study aims to determine the effect of Virtual care reality video3600 on the standard precautions knowledge of Professional Nurse Program Students.           Methods: The Research design uses a quasi-experimental pre-post test with the control group. The research sample consists of 38 students for the intervention group and 32 students for the control group. The research site was at Jenderal Sudirman University and the University of Indonesia in June-September 2022. The research instrument uses a standard precaution knowledge questionnaire. Researchers provide virtual care reality video3600 interventionfor 17 minutes at least three times in each video. VCR 3600 contains material on standard precautions consisting of proper hand washing, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, safe injection practices, and handling of potentially contaminated equipment or surfaces in the patient's environment. Post-test measurement is carried out two weeks after the intervention. Data analysis uses paired t-tests and independent t-tests.   Results: The results showed that the age of the respondents was between 21-31 years old, with a median value of 22 years. The gender respondents were mostly women, the majority of respondents had never been nurses, the majority of respondents had studied infection control, most of the respondents had not received the Hepatitis B vaccine, and the majority of respondents had never reported the incidence of needle sticks. The statistical test results obtained a significant change in knowledge (p-value = 0.001).  Conclusions: The results showed a significant increase in respondents’ knowledge level after the intervention. The research results are expected to be applied in the learning process of Professional Nurse Programs in universities. In addition, it is hoped that the VCR 3600 method can be used for other Professional Nurse Program learning themes. Keywords: standard precaution; video 3600 ; virtual care reality

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is often referred to as the “silent killer” and based on the 2013 Basic Health Research data, hypertension sufferers in Indonesia at the age of >18 years reached 25.8%, while the undiagnosed reached 63.2%. Research results have shown that most people have sleep disorders, resulting in the recurrence of hypertension. This research aimed to find a relationship between sleep quality and medication compliance for hypertensive patients at Private Hospital, Yogyakarta. Method: This research used a descriptive quantitative research method with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 40 hypertensive patients were taken as the research samples using an accidental sampling technique. Sleep quality was measured using the PSQI (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index) instrument, and compliance with medication was measured using Morisky-8. Result: Findings show that 87.5% of respondents experienced poor sleep quality, while the remaining 12.5% had good sleep quality. Regarding medication compliance, 87.5% of respondents complied with medication, while 32.5% did not. Chi square analysis showed that there was no significant relationship between sleep quality and medication adherence (p=0.523). Conclusion: there is no relationship between sleep quality and medication compliance in hypertensive patients. Based on the results of this research, future researchers are expected to take more samples, random sampling method and examine the effect of medication compliance on quality of life

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is the most dominant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, which is the most frequent cause of deaths all over the world. Patients’ hypertension requires non pharmacological interventions as an integral part of case management. Complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) are recognized and accepted in several countries that have developed a high degree of modern medicine; some researchers showed that CAM could be recommended for lowering blood pressure. The aim of this study is to explore the most popular method of CAM used for hypertension.Method: A systematic review was conducted by searching online databases between 2012 - 2022, by using PRISMA 2020 protocol in filtering the articles. Articles were sourced from Elsevier, Plos One, NIH, Lancet, BMC, Sage, Springer, Wiley, Lippincott and Garuda.  The researcher obtained 26 articles for final review, with inclusion criteria people with hypertension that use CAM as a therapy to prevent elevated blood pressure. Results: Eleven articles were RCT, seven articles were experiments, three articles were descriptive, three articles were cross sectional, one article was cohort, and one article was case control. The result showed that the CAM was effective in lowering blood pressure. People with hypertension most often used herbal medicine, acupuncture, acupressure, yoga, meditation, tai chi, reflexology, massage, guided imagery, and aromatherapy oil (in sequentially). Conclusions: Perception/belief, lack of information, experience and culture affect people's behavior in choosing medical drugs over CAM. Therefore, health care should promote CAM and provide patients with non-pharmacological intervention.

Abstract

Introduction: The complexity of nursing problems arising in patients with pulmonary TB requires professional handling in collaboration between health workers in hospitals. It is used to improve the quality of life and quality of care in patients with TB. However, the application of interprofessional collaboration in some cases of the disease has not been optimalPurpose: Analyze Interprofessional Collaboration in the Care of Pulmonary TB Clients in one of the hospitals in Jember, Indonesia Methods: This study is a case study conducted in one of the hospitals in Jember, Indonesia. The researcher uses the IPC readiness checklist and fills out the IPC implementation evaluation checklist after the patient goes home. Results: The result of this study stated that the implementation of IPC by PPJA, together with other health workers, has not been optimally implemented. In this case, the application of interprofessional collaboration is still not optimal, as evidenced by the results of the IPC implementation checklist assessment, which is still in score categories 1 and 2. There are several obstacles, such as lack of communication between professions, lack of application of PCC and FCC approaches, overlapping roles and responsibilities, stereotypes from one profession to another, and feelings of inferiority to PPJA. PPJA can maximize its role in conducting IPC to improve patient-focused care; thus, the patient quality of life will increase. Conclusion: PPJA can maximize its role in conducting IPC to improve patient-focused care; thus, the patient quality of life will increase.
