Abstract

Sexual violence remains a persistent challenge in university environments, despite the implementation of various policies and task forces, including at Universitas Brawijaya. This study investigates the integration of fiqh sexuality in preventing sexual violence on campus. Employing a qualitative case study with a socio-legal approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation of the Universitas Brawijaya's PPKS Task Force activities. The findings reveal that while educational efforts are underway, the approach predominantly focuses on legal and psychological aspects, with fiqh sexuality not yet systematically integrated. Crucially, from the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah, fiqh sexuality offers significant potential for preventing sexual violence through the principles of ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-'aql. Therefore, mainstreaming fiqh sexuality education is essential in university sexual violence prevention strategies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the construction of human identity in the Qur'an, engaging in a critical dialogue with the Western anthropocentric paradigm. While modern Western thought often positions humanity at the center of reality, reducing it to mere biological and rational dimensions, this research demonstrates how the Qur'an offers a more holistic perspective. Employing a qualitative approach and analytical methods, the study examines key Qur'anic terms for humans: insān, basyar, an-nās, and banī Ādam. The findings reveal that the Qur'an views humans not merely as biological beings, but as rational entities with moral and social responsibilities. The term insān portrays humans as weak and forgetful, basyar emphasizes biological aspects, an-nās signifies social beings, and banī Ādam underscores human dignity and acknowledgment of God. This critique of anthropocentrism is supported by the principles of tawḥīd (unity of creation) and mīzān (balance), asserting that humans are an integral part of the cosmic system. Human identity in the Qur'an is defined by the capacity to fulfill the divine amanah (trust) and maintain ecological harmony ethically, providing a foundation for a more responsible and sustainable self-understanding. Penelitian ini menganalisis konstruksi identitas manusia dalam Al-Qur’an dan menempatkannya dalam dialog kritis dengan paradigma antroposentris Barat. Jika pemikiran Barat modern sering kali menempatkan manusia sebagai pusat realitas dan mereduksinya pada dimensi biologis serta rasional semata, penelitian ini menunjukkan bagaimana Al-Qur’an menawarkan pandangan yang lebih holistik. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis untuk mengkaji istilah-istilah kunci Al-Qur’an untuk manusia (insān, basyar, an-nās, dan banī Ādam). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Al-Qur’an tidak sekadar menyebut manusia sebagai makhluk biologis, tetapi juga sebagai makhluk berakal yang memiliki tanggung jawab moral dan sosial. Istilah insān menggambarkan manusia sebagai makhluk yang lemah dan pelupa, basyar menekankan aspek biologis, an-nās menunjukkan manusia sebagai makhluk sosial, dan banī Ādam menggarisbawahi nilai kemanusiaan serta pengakuan terhadap Tuhan. Kritik ini didukung oleh prinsip tawḥīd (kesatuan ciptaan) dan mīzān (keseimbangan), yang menegaskan bahwa manusia adalah bagian integral dari sistem kosmik. Identitas manusia dalam Al-Qur’an didefinisikan oleh kesanggupan menjalankan amanah Ilahi dan menjaga harmoni ekologis secara etis, memberikan landasan untuk pemahaman diri yang lebih bertanggung jawab dan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to compare and contrast the writings of Fazlur Rahman and Quraish Shihab to develop contextual Islamic education. They are known as contemporary Islamic figures who strive to make Islamic teachings relevant in the modern world. This research uses Qualitative-Descriptive method with Systematic Literature review. The results show that through historiography and the double movement method, Fazlur Rahman emphasizes the importance of ijtihad and rationalism in Islamic education, while Quraysh Shihab uses a thematic-humanistic approach to emphasize the value of inclusivity, diversity, and spiritual-social balance. This study shows that despite their differences, both share the same vision in viewing Islamic education as a means to foster human dignity, critical thinking and resilience. This makes a conceptual contribution to the development of a more flexible, humanist and transformative Islamic education paradigm and encourages the integration of Qur'anic teachings in a global context.

Abstract

In the contemporary era of globalization, Islamic education faces the critical challenge of preserving its distinct identity while effectively adapting to modern demands. This study addresses this challenge by analyzing the integration of Qur'anic values within Sunan Drajat's Pepali Pitu teachings and evaluating their relevance as a local Islamic heritage for Islamic education management. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach based on library research, the study utilized primary data from Pepali Pitu quotations and Qur'anic verses, supplemented by secondary literature on Islamic education, local wisdom, and value-based management. Findings reveal that the seven moral maxims of Pepali Pitu, encompassing social, spiritual, and ethical values, are substantively aligned with Qur'anic principles. These principles are demonstrated to serve as a foundational value system for managing Islamic educational institutions, particularly in shaping leadership models grounded in spirituality, social responsibility, and managerial ethics. The study underscores that local wisdom, exemplified by Pepali Pitu, need not be abandoned amidst global shifts; instead, it offers a strategic framework for developing Islamic education systems that are both deeply rooted in identity and adaptable to contemporary challenges. This integration provides a pathway to preserving traditional roots while ensuring global relevance.

Abstract

This article explores the intersection of clean water crises and the burden of gendered labor in the informal community of Muara Baru, North Jakarta, through the lens of ecofeminism and Islamic spirituality. In this coastal urban slum, women not only bear the brunt of ecological and infrastructural failures but also emerge as key agents in grassroots environmental resistance. The study reveals how structural inequalities—urban policies blind to gender, water privatization, and discriminatory land tenure requirements—disproportionately impact women, intensifying their domestic and ecological responsibilities. Drawing on the principles of ecofeminism, this paper highlights women's adaptive strategies, localized ecological knowledge, and collective actions in advocating for equitable water access. Their agency is further interpreted as an embodiment of Islamic ethical values such as rahmah (compassion), tawāzun (balance), and mas’ūliyyah (responsibility), reflecting a deeply rooted spiritual consciousness in environmental stewardship. These values align with the Qur’anic vision of humans as khalifah (vicegerents) entrusted to protect and sustain the Earth. Theoretically, this study expands critical ecofeminist discourse by integrating Islamic spirituality as a transformative ethical framework for environmental justice. Practically, it offers insights into the need for inclusive water governance, gender-responsive urban planning, and the amplification of women’s roles in ecological decision-making. In times of accelerating ecological degradation, the experiences of women in Muara Baru point to an urgent call for spiritual-ethical realignment in environmental policy and community resilience. Artikel ini mengkaji keterkaitan antara krisis air bersih, ketimpangan gender, dan spiritualitas dalam perspektif ekofeminisme Islam, dengan studi kasus di Muara Baru, Jakarta Utara. Wilayah pesisir ini menghadapi tantangan ekologis akut, mulai dari penurunan muka tanah, ekstraksi air tanah berlebih, hingga akses air bersih yang diskriminatif bagi komunitas informal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi bagaimana perempuan—yang menanggung beban ganda dalam rumah tangga sekaligus dalam perjuangan memperoleh hak atas air—berperan sebagai agen perubahan dalam krisis ini. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berbasis studi pustaka, analisis dokumentasi lapangan, dan tinjauan literatur ekofeminisme serta spiritualitas Islam, artikel ini mengungkap bahwa agensi perempuan di Muara Baru tidak hanya bersifat praktis, tetapi juga merefleksikan nilai-nilai religius seperti rahmah (kasih sayang), tawāzun (keseimbangan), dan mas’ūliyyah (tanggung jawab). Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa spiritualitas Islam dapat menjadi kerangka etis dalam memahami relasi manusia-alam secara lebih adil dan lestari. Artikel ini juga merekomendasikan model pengelolaan air yang partisipatif dan berkeadilan, dengan mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai ekofeminisme dan etika Islam sebagai kontribusi terhadap paradigma pembangunan berkelanjutan yang lebih inklusif

Abstract

This research examines sand mining practices in East Lombok Regency through the perspective of Hifz al-Bi'ah (environmental protection) within the framework of Maqāṣid asy-Syarī‘ah (the objectives of Islamic law). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study integrates empirical data from field observations and interviews with affected communities, along with a normative analysis based on Islamic teachings. The findings indicate that sand mining—whether in rivers, coastal areas, or at sea—causes multidimensional environmental damage, including the destruction of agricultural land, coastal abrasion, water pollution, and social conflicts. From the perspective of Maqāṣid asy-Syarī‘ah, these practices contradict the principles of hifz al-nafs (preservation of life), hifz al-māl (preservation of wealth), and hifz al-bi'ah (preservation of the environment). Furthermore, they disregard the principle of fiqh al-awlawiyyāt (legal priorities), which emphasizes long-term public welfare. This study affirms that environmental protection is a syar‘i obligation and recommends the need for policies based on Islamic values to achieve sustainable development. Penelitian ini mengkaji praktik penambangan pasir di Kabupaten Lombok Timur melalui perspektif Hifẓul al-Bi'ah (perlindungan lingkungan) dalam kerangka Maqāṣid asy-Syarī'ah (tujuan-tujuan syariat Islam). Dengan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, penelitian ini mengintegrasikan data empiris dari observasi lapangan dan wawancara dengan masyarakat terdampak, serta analisis normatif berdasarkan ajaran Islam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambangan pasir—baik di sungai, pesisir, maupun laut—menimbulkan kerusakan lingkungan multidimensi, termasuk kerusakan lahan pertanian, abrasi pantai, pencemaran air, dan konflik sosial. Dalam perspektif Maqāṣid asy-Syarī'ah, praktik ini bertentangan dengan prinsip ḥifẓ al-nafs (menjaga jiwa), ḥifẓ al-māl (menjaga harta), dan ḥifẓ al-bi'ah (menjaga lingkungan), serta mengabaikan prinsip fiqh al-awlawiyyāt (prioritas hukum) yang menekankan kemaslahatan jangka panjang. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa perlindungan lingkungan adalah kewajiban syar'i dan menyarankan perlunya kebijakan berbasis nilai-nilai Islam untuk mencapai pembangunan berkelanjutan.

Abstract

The construction of the Daegu Mosque in South Korea is a significant symbol of transformation, fostering understanding, social cohesion, and the social inclusion of migrants. This study examines how the mosque's construction facilitates the social integration of Muslim migrants into Korean society, particularly within the local community. Utilizing qualitative research methods, including in-depth interviews, document analysis (of pamphlets and other materials), and participant observation, this study investigates the experiences and perspectives of migrant Muslims. The findings demonstrate that the mosque plays a crucial role in mitigating prejudice, promoting solidarity, fostering a sense of belonging among migrant Muslims, and enhancing intercultural understanding, thereby contributing positively to their social inclusion. By bridging religious and cultural divides, the mosque helps strengthen social ties within the broader Korean community. The construction of the Daegu Mosque serves as a positive example of a welcoming place of worship that promotes interreligious harmony and respect, demonstrating how such spaces can foster understanding in interreligious relations. This research underscores the importance of embracing multicultural and religious identities to build more peaceful and inclusive societies.

Abstract

This article examines the concept of Ulil Albab in the Qur’an and its relevance as a foundation for Islamic education in responding to the challenges of the contemporary digital era. Amid rapid technological disruption, the formation of human resources who possess not only intellectual competence but also spiritual depth and moral integrity has become increasingly urgent. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach based on library research, this study analyzes QS. Ali ‘Imran (3): 190–194 through the interpretive framework of Ibn Katsir’s Tafsir. The analysis focuses on identifying the core characteristics of Ulil Albab and their educational implications. The findings indicate that education grounded in the values of Ulil Albab is structured upon the integration of dhikr (remembrance of God), fikr (critical reflection), and amal ṣāliḥ (righteous action); the centrality of tawḥīd; a balanced development of spiritual, intellectual, and social dimensions; a commitment to knowledge and wisdom; and adherence to truth and noble character. The study further demonstrates that the implementation of these values in education requires character-based learning, an integrative curriculum, active pedagogical strategies, the role of teachers as murabbī, and collaboration across educational environments. This research contributes to Islamic educational discourse by offering a Qur’anic value-based framework for cultivating a holistic and ethically grounded generation capable of navigating the complexities of the digital age. Artikel ini mengkaji konsep Ulil Albab dalam Al-Qur’an serta relevansinya sebagai fondasi pendidikan Islam dalam merespons tantangan era digital kontemporer. Di tengah pesatnya disrupsi teknologi, pembentukan sumber daya manusia yang tidak hanya unggul secara intelektual, tetapi juga memiliki kedalaman spiritual dan integritas moral menjadi kebutuhan yang semakin mendesak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif berbasis studi kepustakaan dengan menganalisis QS. Ali ‘Imran (3): 190–194 melalui kerangka penafsiran Ibn Katsir. Analisis difokuskan pada identifikasi karakteristik utama Ulil Albab dan implikasinya bagi pendidikan Islam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan berbasis nilai-nilai Ulil Albab dibangun atas integrasi dzikr (mengingat Allah), fikr (refleksi kritis), dan amal saleh; penguatan nilai tauhid; keseimbangan antara dimensi spiritual, intelektual, dan sosial; kecintaan terhadap ilmu dan hikmah; serta komitmen terhadap kebenaran dan akhlak mulia. Penelitian ini juga menegaskan bahwa implementasi nilai-nilai tersebut dalam pendidikan menuntut penguatan pendidikan karakter, pengembangan kurikulum integratif, penerapan metode pembelajaran aktif, peran pendidik sebagai murabbi, serta sinergi antarlingkungan pendidikan. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi konseptual bagi pengembangan pendidikan Islam berbasis nilai Qur’ani guna membentuk generasi yang unggul secara holistik dan adaptif terhadap perubahan zaman.

Abstract

The development of digital technology, especially artificial intelligence, has triggered significant social changes, including in the mechanism of ta'aruf which can now be carried out online through special platforms. This article analyzes the Islamic family law response to the transformation of AI-based ta’aruf practices, focusing on the Muzz app as a representation of a modern introductory platform. This research uses a literature study method that examines the literature on Islamic family law, digital technology, and AI. The findings of the study indicate that the application of sharia values, especially maqasid al-shari’ah, is a crucial foundation in the development of safe and ethical digital ta’aruf practices, as well as being adaptable to various other digital ta’aruf platforms. In this context, hifz al-‘ird encourages strong identity verification to prevent data manipulation; Hifz al-Din demands good communication manners and seriousness of intention; while Hifz al-Nafs requires protection from the risk of cybercrime through adequate data security. AI technology can strengthen these mechanisms through AI-based identity verification, behavioral anomaly detection, and automated moderation. The implications of this study confirm the need for fiqh guidelines for online interaction, sharia standards for the nadhar mechanism and guardian involvement, application certification according to sharia principles, and pre-marital data protection regulations. Perkembangan teknologi digital, khususnya kecerdasan buatan (AI), telah memicu perubahan sosial yang signifikan, termasuk dalam mekanisme ta'aruf yang kini dapat dilakukan secara daring melalui platform khusus. Artikel ini menganalisis respons hukum keluarga Islam terhadap transformasi praktik ta'aruf berbasis AI, dengan fokus pada aplikasi Muzz sebagai representasi platform perkenalan modern. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi pustaka yang mengkaji literatur tentang hukum keluarga Islam, teknologi digital, dan AI. Temuan studi menunjukkan bahwa penerapan nilai-nilai syariah, khususnya maqasid al-shari’ah, merupakan fondasi krusial dalam pengembangan praktik ta'aruf digital yang aman dan etis, serta dapat diadaptasikan ke berbagai platform ta'aruf digital lainnya. Dalam konteks ini, hifz al-‘ird mendorong verifikasi identitas yang kuat untuk mencegah manipulasi data; hifz al-din menuntut tata krama komunikasi yang baik dan keseriusan niat; sementara hifz al-nafs memerlukan perlindungan dari risiko kejahatan siber melalui keamanan data yang memadai. Teknologi AI dapat memperkuat mekanisme ini melalui verifikasi identitas berbasis AI, deteksi anomali perilaku, dan moderasi otomatis. Implikasi dari studi ini mengonfirmasi perlunya pedoman fikih untuk interaksi daring, standar syariah untuk mekanisme nadhar dan keterlibatan wali, sertifikasi aplikasi sesuai prinsip syariah, serta regulasi perlindungan data pra-nikah.

Abstract

  This study examines Surah al-Ḥujurāt verse 11 through an analysis of Quraish Shihab’s interpretation in Tafsir al-Mishbah to critically understand the phenomena of dehumanization and the crisis of spirituality in social media. In contrast to previous studies that tend to focus on normative social ethics or thematic analyses without deeply engaging with digital communication practices, this research offers a conceptual enrichment through a hermeneutical approach that connects the textual horizon, the interpretive process, and contemporary digital realities. Employing a qualitative library-based method, the study analyzes the structure of exegetical argumentation and its ethical-spiritual implications for online interaction. The findings indicate that the verse provides a value framework that functions transformatively in shaping social relations, particularly within digital spaces prone to bullying, hate speech, labeling, and polarization. Quraish Shihab’s interpretation emphasizes the importance of self-discipline, moral sensitivity, and public responsibility as guiding principles of communication. The hermeneutical refinement in this study demonstrates an operational linkage between Qur’anic messages and digital phenomena, ensuring that ethical prohibitions do not remain merely normative but serve as critical guidelines for fostering a more humane culture of interaction. The primary contribution of this study lies in formulating a framework of “Qur’anic digital ethics,” which expands the discourse on Islamic digital literacy while offering a conceptual basis for addressing dehumanization and the crisis of spirituality in the era of social media. Studi ini mengkaji Surah al-Ḥujurāt ayat 11 melalui pembacaan atas penafsiran Quraish Shihab dalam Tafsir al-Mishbah untuk memahami secara kritis gejala dehumanisasi dan krisis spiritualitas di media sosial. Dibandingkan penelitian sebelumnya yang lebih berhenti pada uraian etika sosial atau analisis tematik tanpa menghubungkannya secara mendalam dengan praktik komunikasi digital, penelitian ini menawarkan pengayaan konseptual melalui pendekatan hermeneutik yang menautkan horizon teks, proses penafsiran, dan realitas digital kontemporer. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif berbasis studi kepustakaan dengan analisis terhadap bangunan argumentasi tafsir serta implikasi etik-spiritualnya bagi interaksi daring. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ayat tersebut menghadirkan kerangka nilai yang bekerja secara transformatif dalam menata relasi sosial, terutama pada ruang digital yang rentan terhadap praktik perundungan, ujaran kebencian, pelabelan, dan polarisasi. Penafsiran Quraish Shihab menegaskan pentingnya disiplin diri, kepekaan moral, dan tanggung jawab publik sebagai orientasi komunikasi. Penajaman hermeneutik dalam penelitian ini memperlihatkan keterkaitan operasional antara pesan Qur’ani dan fenomena digital, sehingga larangan etis tidak berhenti pada level normatif, tetapi berfungsi sebagai pedoman kritis untuk membangun budaya interaksi yang lebih manusiawi. Kontribusi utama penelitian ini terletak pada perumusan kerangka “akhlak digital Qur’ani” yang dapat memperluas diskursus literasi digital keislaman sekaligus menawarkan basis konseptual untuk merespons dehumanisasi dan krisis spiritualitas pada era media sosial.
