Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the volatility and forecast the stock returns of PT Maskapai Reasuransi Indonesia Tbk. during the 2022–2025 period using the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model. The company was selected because it represents the reinsurance subsector, which has received relatively limited attention in stock return volatility studies compared with other financial sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. This study uses secondary data in the form of daily closing stock prices, which were transformed into log returns. The analysis consisted of descriptive statistics, stationarity testing using the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, ARIMA model identification, ARCH-LM testing, GARCH(1,1) estimation, model evaluation, and forecasting. The results show that the return series is stationary (ADF p-value = 0.01), and the best mean model is ARIMA(1,0,1). The ARCH-LM test confirms the presence of heteroscedasticity (p-value = 9.258 × 10⁻¹⁰), supporting the application of the GARCH model. The estimated GARCH(1,1) model produced α = 0.138186 and β = 0.816668, indicating persistent stock return volatility. Model evaluation confirmed that the model satisfied residual diagnostic criteria, with no residual autocorrelation, no remaining ARCH effects, and an RMSE of 0.03960696. Forecasting results indicate that stock returns and volatility tend to converge toward more stable conditions, while volatility is influenced more by previous-period volatility than by short-term shocks. These findings contribute to the literature on stock return volatility modeling in the Indonesian reinsurance sector and provide useful information for risk management and investment decision-making.

Abstract

Ideal stock price prediction model should capture the random and fluctuating nature of stock price movements to produce more accurate forecasts. Since stock prices are highly dynamic and subject to unexpected changes, predicting future prices remains challenging due to market uncertainty and volatility. Nevertheless, many previous studies have relied on deterministic approaches, such as linear regression and ARIMA, which often fail to adequately represent stochastic market behavior. Therefore, this study aims to develop a mathematical model for predicting future stock prices using the Geometric Brownian Motion (GBM) model, particularly to support investors in selecting companies within the insurance sector. This research employs descriptive and predictive quantitative approaches. The descriptive approach examines the historical characteristics of stock price data, while the predictive approach applies the GBM model to represent asset price movements as a stochastic process influenced by return and volatility parameters. The study focuses on PT Asuransi Multi Artha Guna Tbk (AMAG) during the 2024–2026 period, using approximately 500 historical data observations collected from Investing.com. The findings indicate that the GBM model achieved a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 8.09%, which is below the 10% threshold and demonstrates a very high level of predictive accuracy. These results suggest that the GBM model effectively captures the price dynamics of AMAG stock and can serve as a reliable forecasting tool for investment analysis. Future studies are recommended to incorporate external economic factors or compare GBM with other stochastic models to further improve prediction accuracy and reduce forecasting errors.

Abstract

This is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to describe student errors based on Watson's criteria in flat-sided solid geometry material in grade VIII of SMPN 11 Buton. The subjects of this study were grade VIII students. The technique for determining the research subjects was by administering a diagnostic test to select two high-ability subjects and two moderate-ability subjects. Data collection techniques included administering a diagnostic test, administering a math ability test, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that students with high ability made two errors out of eight Watson criteria: incorrect data errors, incorrect procedures, missing data, missing conclusions, conflicting response levels, indirect manipulation, skill hierarchy problems. In addition to the seven categories above, high-ability students made errors in inappropriate procedures and missing conclusions. This means that high-ability students made errors in determining their final grades and did not write conclusions from their answers. Then, for subjects with low ability, they made 7 types of errors based on Watson's criteria, namely inaccurate data errors, incorrect procedures, missing data, missing conclusions, conflicting response levels, indirect manipulation, and skill hierarchy problems. Subjects with low ability did not make errors in types of errors other than the 7 categories above. This was because the subjects were unable to understand the concept of the problem, were less careful in working on the problem, which impacted the procedure and the results obtained were less accurate.

Abstract

Mathematical conceptual understanding and self-concept remain relatively low, as evidenced by their difficulties in explaining mathematical concepts, representing concepts in different forms, and demonstrating confidence in solving mathematical problems. In addition, the average mathematics scores of Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 15 Tasikmalaya ranged from only 25 to 28, indicating unsatisfactory learning outcomes. One potential strategy to address these challenges is the implementation of the deep learning approach in mathematics instruction. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effect of the deep learning approach on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding and self-concept. A quantitative experimental method with a posttest-only control group design was employed. The population consisted of all Grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 15 Tasikmalaya. Using cluster random sampling, Class VIII-F (34 students) was selected as the experimental group, while Class VIII-E (35 students) served as the control group. Data were collected through a mathematical conceptual understanding test and a self-concept questionnaire. The data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test after meeting the assumptions of normality and homogeneity. The findings revealed a statistically significant effect of the deep learning approach on students’ mathematical conceptual understanding and self-concept, with a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the deep learning approach is effective in enhancing students’ mathematical conceptual understanding and self-concept.

Abstract

Students' mathematical problem-solving ability in the topic of linear equations in one variable (PLSV) is still not optimal because students tend to directly perform calculations or write final answers without going through systematic problem-solving steps. This study aims to describe students' mathematical problem-solving ability on the PLSV topic based on Polya's steps. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach supported by simple quantitative data. The population of this study is eighth-grade students in a public junior high school in Sungai Penuh, with a sample of 16 students selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument is a mathematical problem-solving test consisting of five questions based on the indicators of understanding the problem, devising a plan, carrying out the plan, and checking the solution, and all items are declared valid. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that 18.75% of students are in the very good category, 6.25% in the good category, and 25% each in the fair, poor, and very poor categories. The highest indicator achievement is in carrying out the plan (89.06%), while the lowest is in devising a plan (29.68%). Therefore, students' mathematical problem-solving ability in the PLSV topic still needs to be improved, especially in habituating students to solve problems systematically according to Polya's steps.

Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving ability is an essential competency in mathematics learning because it enables students to analyze, plan, and solve mathematical problems systematically. However, many students still encounter difficulties in solving algebra problems, particularly in evaluating the correctness of their solutions. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the profile of students’ mathematical problem-solving ability in algebra based on Polya’s problem-solving stages. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research design. The population consisted of all SMA Negeri 2 Kerinci students, totaling 21 tenth-grade students as the research sample that was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a mathematical problem-solving test administered to all students, after which four students representing the categories of very good, good, fair, and poor were selected purposively for in-depth analysis. The instrument was tested for validity, reliability, item difficulty, discrimination index, and item correlation using SPSS. The results indicated that 9.52% of students were categorized as very good, 28.57% as good, 52.38% as fair, and 9.52% as poor. Based on Polya’s stages, students achieved 71.43% in understanding the problem, 85.71% in devising a plan, 66.67% in carrying out the plan, and 4.76% in looking back. The findings reveal that most students were able to understand problems, devise solution strategies, and carry out solution plans, whereas the looking-back stage remained the weakest aspect of their mathematical problem-solving profile. These findings imply that mathematics instruction should emphasize not only obtaining correct answers but also developing students’ habits of solving problems systematically and verifying their solutions.
