Abstract

This study aims to identify the secondary metabolite content and evaluate the antibacterial potential of the methanol extract of Indigofera tinctoria leaves. The research was conducted using an exploratory laboratory approach, which involved several key stages sample preparation, ultrasound-assisted extraction with methanol, phytochemical screening, and antibacterial activity testing by the agar disk diffusion method. Phytochemical screening used specific reagents, such as iron (III) chloride, Wagner’s, Dragendorff’s, and Liebermann-Burchard reagents to detect secondary metabolites. The results of the phytochemical analysis showed that the analysis revealed that the methanol extract of Indigofera tinctoria contains various bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids. Antibacterial activity testing showed the extract inhibited the growth of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Notably, the extract exhibited the greatest effectiviness against gram-positive bacteria, with the highest inhibition zone recorded in Bacillus subtilis (19.45 mm), followed by Staphylococcus aureus (17.30 mm), Escherichia coli (15.55 mm) and the lowest in Salmonella typhi (8.80 mm). The results suggest that the methanol extract of Indigofera tinctoria leaves processes significant antibacterial activity, particularly against gram-possitive bacteria, and highlight its potential as a source of natural antibacterial agents for future pharmaceutical applications. Further research, including in vivo studies and the isolation of individual compounds, is recommended to understand better the mechanisms involved and to assess the safety and efficacy of Indigofera tinctoria as a therapeutic agent.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the role of green open space (GOS) vegetation on air quality in densely populated residential areas of Makassar City. Rapid urban development, increased vehicle activity, and the reduction of urban green spaces have contributed to the decline in environmental quality, particularly ambient air quality, in urban settlements. The research was conducted in the Tamalanrea District at six observation points representing commercial areas, main roads, warehouse areas, and residential settlements. A quantitative descriptive method was applied through direct field measurements of ambient air quality parameters, including Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Total Suspended Particulate (TSP), and Lead (Pb), combined with vegetation observations to identify vegetation density and dominant plant species at each observation point. The results showed that ambient air quality at all observation points remained below the national ambient air quality standards. Higher concentrations of SO₂, NO₂, and TSP were found in areas with high vehicle activity, such as commercial zones, residential gateways, and warehouse areas. In contrast, residential areas with denser vegetation cover tended to show lower concentrations of air pollutants. Vegetation in the study area was dominated by species such as Samanea saman, Swietenia mahagoni, Tabebuia sp., Terminalia mantaly, and Syzygium oleina. The findings indicate that vegetation density and land-use characteristics influence ambient air quality conditions in urban residential areas. Therefore, the development and preservation of green open spaces are essential to support environmental sustainability and improve urban air quality.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of interactive PowerPoint-based learning media in IPAS instruction for third-grade elementary school students on metamorphosis material. The research was conducted to address students’ low interest, participation, and understanding caused by conventional teaching methods and limited media variation. Since metamorphosis is an abstract concept, interactive media are needed to support meaningful learning.This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations and interviews involving third-grade teachers and students at SD Pelang, selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion verification. The findings showed that interactive PowerPoint-based learning media increased students’ interest and participation in learning. The media also facilitated understanding of metamorphosis concepts through engaging visual and interactive presentations and positively affected students’ cognitive learning outcomes. These results are supported by a review of eight previous studies indicating that interactive PowerPoint-based media have high validity, practicality, and effectiveness in IPAS learning. The findings showed that interactive PowerPoint-based learning media increased students’ interest and participation, facilitated understanding of metamorphosis concepts through engaging visual presentations, and improved cognitive learning outcomes. These findings are supported by a review of eight previous studies indicating high validity, practicality, and effectiveness of interactive PowerPoint-based media in IPAS learning. Therefore, this media can be considered a viable alternative for improving learning quality in elementary schools. Future studies are recommended to involve broader samples and different research approaches.

Abstract

Evaluating learning outcomes across different class types remains a critical yet underexplored issue in Indonesian higher education, particularly in science teacher preparation programs where pedagogical equity is essential. This study evaluates student learning outcomes in the Child Development (PPD) course using the case study learning method at the Science Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Makassar, during the Even Semester of Academic Year 2025–2026. A descriptive-quantitative approach with comparative case study design was employed. Research subjects consisted of 98 students across three classes: ICP Class (n=29), Regular Class A (n=36), and Regular Class B (n=33). Analysis encompassed descriptive statistics (mean, median, SD, skewness, kurtosis, 95% CI), Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, One-Way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis as non-parametric alternative, and Mann-Whitney post-hoc tests with Bonferroni correction. Descriptive results showed mean scores of 87.79 (SD=6.59) for ICP, 87.17 (SD=4.87) for Regular A, and 88.09 (SD=3.47) for Regular B. Shapiro-Wilk test indicated non-normal distributions across all classes (p<.001), warranting Kruskal-Wallis as the primary test, which revealed no significant inter-class differences (H=1.039, p=.595). This was corroborated by One-Way ANOVA (F(2,95)=0.301, p=.741, η²=.006), indicating a trivial effect size. Mann-Whitney post-hoc comparisons with Bonferroni correction found no significant pairwise differences (all p>.017). These findings imply that case study method implementation in PPD produced equivalent and consistent learning outcomes across all three classes, with a classical completion rate of 98.0% (grade ≥B+).

Abstract

Memahami preferensi modalitas permainan siswa sangat penting untuk mengoptimalkan desain pembelajaran berbasis permainan (GBL), namun sebagian besar penelitian GBL di pendidikan tinggi mengukur keterlibatan dan hasil pembelajaran tanpa secara sistematis mendokumentasikan jenis permainan apa yang disukai siswa dan mengapa. Tujuan: Studi ini menyelidiki preferensi modalitas permainan dan harapan pembelajaran dari 78 calon guru sains (kohort 2024) di Universitas Negeri Makassar setelah berpartisipasi dalam intervensi GBL multiplatform dalam mata kuliah Filsafat Sains. Metode: Instrumen survei dengan enam item terstruktur dan terbuka menilai: (1) modalitas permainan yang disukai secara keseluruhan; (2) permainan offline yang disukai; (3) permainan psikomotor yang disukai; (4) platform digital yang disukai; (5) urutan pembelajaran yang disukai; dan (6) hasil pembelajaran yang diharapkan dari permainan. Item terbuka tambahan mengumpulkan saran permainan yang dihasilkan siswa. Analisis frekuensi dilakukan untuk semua item; perbandingan antar kelas dilakukan untuk preferensi modalitas secara keseluruhan; dan analisis konten kualitatif diterapkan pada saran terbuka. Hasil: Permainan offline adalah modalitas tunggal yang paling disukai (42,3%), diikuti oleh kombinasi ketiga modalitas (38,5%). Di antara permainan offline, Teka-Teki Konsep Ontologi-Epistemologi-Aksiologi (60,3%) dan Kartu Diskusi Sokratik (57,7%) paling disukai. Quizizz mendominasi preferensi platform digital (78,2%). Peragaan konsep yang diwujudkan (50,0%) dan Debat Berdiri (44,9%) memimpin preferensi psikomotorik. Peningkatan berpikir kritis adalah hasil pembelajaran yang paling diharapkan (78,2%). Analisis kualitatif mengidentifikasi enam kategori tematik dari saran yang dihasilkan siswa, dengan permainan berbasis debat paling sering diusulkan (31,3%). Kesimpulan: Temuan ini menantang asumsi bahwa permainan digital secara universal disukai oleh pelajar Generasi Z.

Abstract

Low student learning outcomes in Life Organization System material remain a persistent challenge in junior high school science education, often due to the abstract nature of the content and teacher-centered learning approaches. This study aims to determine the improvement of learning outcomes of seventh-grade students on the topic of Life Organization System through the implementation of a cooperative learning model based on Game Board Card. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in three cycles. The research subjects were 30 students of class VII.5. Research instruments included learning outcome tests (pretest and posttest), and student worksheets (LKPD). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the N-Gain test. The results showed an increase in the average learning outcomes from Cycle I (67.00), Cycle II (70.17), to Cycle III (73.50). The percentage of students achieving mastery increased from 44.0% in Cycle I, to 50.0% in Cycle II, and 66.7% in Cycle III. The N-Gain analysis yielded an average score of 0.33 in the moderate category. The cooperative learning model based on Game Board Card is proven to gradually improve student learning outcomes on the Life Organization System topic.

Abstract

Fractionation is a method for separating proteins and enzymes widely used in biochemistry. Enzyme precipitation can be performed using either organic solvents or salts. This method is useful for separating protein components in crude enzyme extracts from non-protein components. The most commonly used salt is ammonium sulfate because it has high solubility, is relatively stable, and can precipitate proteins without causing denaturation. Commonly used organic solvents are n-hexane, ethyl acetate, water, ethanol, and methanol. This literature review aims to analyze the application of fractionation methods with salts and solvents in protein and enzyme purification based on reviewed articles. The method used is a literature review by examining research results from several articles related to extraction, fractionation, compound content analysis, and specific activity tests. The review results show that salt fractionation is effective in increasing the purity and concentration of proteins or enzymes. Several studies have shown that ammonium sulfate saturations of 20–40%, 50%, and 60% often produce the highest enzyme specific activity or protein content. The review results show that the ethyl acetate solvent fraction often provides the highest specific activity due to its ability to attract semipolar compounds such as flavonoids, phenols, certain alkaloids, and other active secondary metabolites. However, precipitation using salt is superior and advantageous compared to organic solvents. Therefore, salt fractionation is a simple, inexpensive, and effective method for the initial stage of protein and enzyme purification before proceeding with dialysis, chromatography, or further characterization.

Abstract

Rendahnya kehadiran siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika dapat berdampak pada keterlibatan dan hasil belajar siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kehadiran dan hasil belajar siswa kelas XI SMAN 3 Parepare melalui penerapan pendekatan restoratif dalam pembelajaran matematika. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang meliputi tahap perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus dengan melibatkan 26 siswa kelas XI SMAN 3 Parepare. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi. Indikator yang diamati meliputi kehadiran siswa, ketepatan waktu hadir, keaktifan siswa, dan hasil belajar matematika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan pendekatan restoratif memberikan dampak positif terhadap seluruh indikator yang diamati. Kehadiran siswa meningkat dari 31% pada pra siklus menjadi 73% pada Siklus I dan 88% pada Siklus II. Ketepatan waktu hadir meningkat dari 37% menjadi 63% dan kemudian menjadi 91%, sedangkan keaktifan siswa meningkat dari 27% menjadi 52% dan kemudian menjadi 78%. Rata-rata hasil belajar matematika juga meningkat dari 44 pada pra siklus menjadi 58 pada Siklus I dan 75 pada Siklus II. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan restoratif mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang lebih positif melalui dialog, refleksi, dan komitmen bersama sehingga meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa dan hasil belajar matematika. Dengan demikian, pendekatan restoratif dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif strategi yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kehadiran dan hasil belajar matematika siswa. Oleh karena itu, guru matematika dan pihak sekolah disarankan untuk mengintegrasikan pendekatan restoratif secara berkelanjutan dalam proses pembelajaran guna membangun keterlibatan siswa yang lebih optimal dan menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang kondusif.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of digital literacy on the mathematics learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Parepare. Digital literacy in this context encompasses students’ ability to access, evaluate, and utilize digital information in mathematics learning. The study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto correlational design. Data were collected through a digital literacy questionnaire and documentation of students’ midterm examination scores, and subsequently analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicate that digital literacy has a positive and statistically significant effect on mathematics learning outcomes (t = 2.102; p = 0.040). However, the magnitude of its contribution is relatively low, as reflected by the coefficient of determination (R² = 0.069), suggesting that only 6.9% of the variance in learning outcomes is explained by digital literacy. The regression model was also found to be statistically significant simultaneously (F = 4.418; p = 0.040). In conclusion, while digital literacy significantly influences mathematics learning outcomes, its effect remains limited. Therefore, it should be integrated with other pedagogical factors to more effectively enhance students’ academic achievement.

Abstract

Rendahnya keaktifan belajar siswa pada materi perbandingan trigonometri menjadi permasalahan utama yang ditemukan di kelas X Unggul 2 UPT SMA Negeri 3 Parepare. Berdasarkan hasil observasi awal, sebagian besar siswa cenderung pasif selama pembelajaran berlangsung, dengan rata-rata skor aspek kerja sama dan kepercayaan diri hanya mencapai 2,64 dari 4. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keaktifan belajar siswa melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Cooperative Learning tipe Numbered Heads Together (NHT) pada materi perbandingan trigonometri. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan mengacu pada model Kemmis dan McTaggart yang terdiri atas empat tahapan, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Penelitian dilaksanakan dalam tiga siklus dengan instrumen pengumpulan data berupa lembar observasi yang memuat delapan indikator keaktifan, meliputi kesiapan belajar, bertanya, mengerjakan tugas, berdiskusi, bertukar jawaban, mencatat hasil diskusi, menjawab pertanyaan, serta berpendapat dan menanggapi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan rata-rata keaktifan belajar siswa pada setiap siklus, yakni dari 49,75% pada Siklus I, meningkat menjadi 62,36% pada Siklus II, dan mencapai 75,16% pada Siklus III. Seluruh delapan indikator keaktifan mengalami peningkatan konsisten, dengan indikator berdiskusi, bertanya, dan mencatat hasil diskusi mencapai nilai tertinggi sebesar 77,63% pada Siklus III. Dengan demikian, penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Heads Together (NHT) terbukti efektif meningkatkan keaktifan belajar siswa pada materi perbandingan trigonometri di kelas X UPT SMA Negeri 3 Parepare.
