Abstract

Discrete Mathematics learning at the university level requires high-level reasoning skills and deep conceptual understanding, particularly in the topic of recursive relations. However, in instructional practice, students still experience various learning difficulties that affect the quality of their understanding. This study aims to identify students’ learning obstacles in recursive relations as a preliminary study within the framework of Didactical Design Research (DDR). A qualitative approach was employed by analyzing students’ responses to true–false items accompanied by written justifications administered in a final examination. The data were analyzed to identify learning obstacles based on ontogenic and epistemological perspectives. The findings indicate that students experience learning obstacles characterized by the inappropriate use of prior mathematical knowledge, limited ability to provide conceptual justifications, and a tendency toward procedural reasoning in contexts that require deeper conceptual analysis. These results suggest that students’ difficulties in recursive relations cannot be separated from the didactical situations framing the learning process. This preliminary study provides a foundation for the development of didactical designs in subsequent research, with the conceptual integration of the Case Method to reconstruct more meaningful learning situations in Discrete Mathematics.

Abstract

Technological developments have made significant contributions, technology has made substantial contributions across various sectors, including education. One example of its application in learning is the development of E-Modules as digital instructional media that can foster active student participation. This study aims to examine teacher and student responses and evaluate the implementation of a mathematics E-Module relying upon the Contextual Teaching and Learning strategy, merged with learning style assessments, concerning the materi of Linear Equation Systems with two variabel. An interpretative statistical mode was utilized within this investigation. Facts were compiled via reaction surveys, yang were additionally validated by conversations. The attendees comprised 32 kelas sembilan pupils and a single matematika guru at a sekolah in Kendal. The results showed yang the typical guru reaction mark reached 3.64, grouped as highly usable, whereas the typical student reaction mark hit 3.48, also grouped as highly usable. guru observed yang the materi shared inside the E-Modul was inclusive, orderly structured, and situational, thus successfully aiding the instructional cycle. Furthermore, learners mentioned yang the E-Modul offered a more fascinating educational encounter and satisfied their distinct learning style choices via its interactive display. Altogether, the created E-Modul was discovered to be fruitful in supporting pupils' awareness of the two variabel Linear Equation System idea and increasing their matematika pemecahan masalah talents, suggesting its possibility for wider usage. However, extra improvement is mandatory, specifically in facets of appearance, resource excellence, and the diversity of exercise masalah, to perfect the result.

Abstract

Produksi dan pembuangan plastik global yang terus meningkat menimbulkan akumulasi limbah plastik rekalsitran seperti PE, PP, dan PET di lingkungan, sehingga diperlukan solusi biodegradasi yang lebih berkelanjutan berbasis mikroorganisme. Aspergillus terreus merupakan jamur filamentosa yang diketahui mampu mendegradasi berbagai polimer sintetis (LDPE, HDPE, PP) melalui sekresi enzim oksidatif dan hidrolitik, dengan efisiensi penurunan massa dilaporkan berkisar 7–30% bergantung jenis plastik, pra-perlakuan, dan kondisi kultur. Penelitian ini merupakan kajian literatur sistematis yang menganalisis artikel ilmiah tahun 2000–2025 dari basis data Scopus, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, PubMed, dan Google Scholar mengenai (1) kemampuan A. terreus dalam biodegradasi plastik, (2) enzim kunci yang terlibat, dan (3) potensi rekayasa genetik untuk mengoptimalkan enzim pengurai plastik. Hasil telaah menunjukkan bahwa laccase dan peroksidase berperan sebagai inisiator oksidasi pada poliolefin (PE/PP), sedangkan untuk poliester seperti PET, A. terreus lebih prospektif dimanfaatkan sebagai host ekspresi bagi cutinase/PET-hydrolase heterolog. Perkembangan teknologi CRISPR/Cas9, promotor konstitutif kuat (misalnya PgpdA), sistem seleksi pyrG, serta strain Δku70 pada A. terreus membuka peluang rekayasa multi-gen untuk meng-overekspresikan enzim endogen maupun memasukkan gen enzim pengurai plastik dari mikroba lain. Meski demikian, masih terdapat tantangan terkait bottleneck jalur sekresi, over-glikosilasi, dan degradasi proteolitik sehingga diperlukan rekayasa sistemik dan validasi skala bioreaktor sebelum A. terreus dapat diimplementasikan sebagai platform bioindustri pengelolaan limbah plastik.

Abstract

Pengembangan karakter lingkungan penting dalam pembelajaran kimia karena pemahaman konsep kimia hijau dan penerapannya dapat meningkatkan kesadaran mahasiswa terhadap keberlanjutan serta tanggung jawab menjaga lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menguji efektivitas mikro modul laju reaksi berbasis kimia hijau terintegrasi proyek dalam meningkatkan karakter lingkungan mahasiswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan pra-eksperimen dengan desain one-group pretest-posttest. Subjek penelitian adalah 24 mahasiswa semester 2 Program Studi Pendidikan Kimia Universitas Negeri Makassar yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan meliputi mikro modul laju reaksi berbasis kimia hijau terintegrasi proyek, 25 soal HOTS pilihan ganda yang telah divalidasi ahli, serta kuesioner karakter lingkungan berisi 12 pernyataan dengan skala Likert 1–5. Data dianalisis secara deskriptif melalui perbandingan skor pretest dan posttest, perhitungan N-gain untuk pemahaman konsep dan karakter lingkungan, serta penentuan kategori efektivitas modul. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mikro modul yang dikembangkan efektif meningkatkan pemahaman konsep dan karakter lingkungan mahasiswa. Skor rata-rata pemahaman konsep meningkat dari 62,67 menjadi 76,83 dengan N-gain 0,37 (kategori sedang), sedangkan skor rata-rata karakter lingkungan meningkat dari 4,18 menjadi 5,00 dengan N-gain 0,32 (kategori sedang). Modul ini juga mendorong kesadaran dan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam praktik ramah lingkungan, seperti mengurangi penggunaan plastik, menekan jejak karbon pribadi, dan menggunakan transportasi yang lebih berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Science Process Skills (SPS) are the skills of scientists in investigating phenomena, developing concepts, and solving problems that serve as a foundation for students to fully understand scientific literacy. This study aims to conduct a literature review regarding innovations in integrating socio-scientific issues into science process skills instruments. This study is a qualitative study using the Systematic Literature Review method that reviews accredited articles relevant to the research topic. Data analysis techniques used include data collection from various journals, data reduction processes, descriptions, verification, and conclusions. The results of the article review indicate that extensive development of SPS instruments has been conducted. However, a research gap remains that a SPS instrument that specifically integrates Socio-Scientific Issues has not yet been found. Existing instruments generally still focus on purely cognitive aspects without involving controversial and contextual socio-scientific issues.

Abstract

Urban development and land conversion in residential areas of Makassar have increased pressure on surface water quality through domestic wastewater discharge, runoff, and reduced infiltration areas. The degradation of riparian vegetation and green open spaces (RTH) may reduce the ecological functions of urban waters, including filtering pollutants and maintaining environmental balance. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the role of RTH vegetation in maintaining surface water quality in urban settlements using a quantitative descriptive approach. Surface water samples were collected from two rivers and one pond, while the analyzed parameters included pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia, fecal coliform, and total coliform based on Class II water quality standards and Pollution Index (PI) calculations. The results showed that BOD and COD exceeded the quality standards, while other parameters remained within acceptable limits. Pollution Index values ranged from 2.82 to 3.02, indicating lightly polluted conditions. Vegetation in the study area was dominated by Nypa fruticans, Sonneratia caseolaris, Rhizophora mucronata, Samanea saman, and Swietenia mahagoni, which contributed to reducing runoff and maintaining water stability. However, the vegetation had not effectively reduced organic pollution from domestic activities and land-use change. These findings indicate that green open spaces act as ecological buffers and support sustainable water quality management in Makassar by promoting vegetation conservation and improving domestic waste management.

Abstract

Inquiry learning is an essential approach in 21st-century education because it develops students' critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific literacy. However, limited pedagogical readiness among prospective physics teachers hinders effective inquiry implementation, making this investigation timely and necessary. This research analyzes prospective physics teachers' readiness to design and implement inquiry learning. A quantitative descriptive approach involved 14 physics education students enrolled in a microteaching course. Data were collected using observation sheets and learning-tool assessments, then analyzed descriptively based on inquiry learning indicators. Results revealed good readiness in organizing inquiry syntax and managing learning activities, although difficulties remained in developing investigative questions, facilitating scientific discussions, and conducting inquiry-based assessment. These findings highlight practical implications for strengthening inquiry experiences during microteaching while contributing theoretically to pedagogical readiness development. Furthermore, improved teacher preparation may enhance future classroom inquiry quality and student learning outcomes. Future research should involve larger samples, diverse institutions, and longitudinal designs to evaluate sustained readiness development and instructional effectiveness.

Abstract

Central Sulawesi experiences fluctuating poverty levels despite various government programs, making accurate forecasting essential for data-driven policies. This study aims to model and forecast the number of poor people in Central Sulawesi by comparing linear, non-linear quadratic, and non-linear cubic trend regression models based on data from Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) 2002–2025. Initially, these three models were evaluated using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) method, where the quadratic and cubic models yielded relatively similar  values of 80.65% and 80.76%, respectively. However, rigorous diagnostic tests revealed that the residual independence assumption under OLS was severely violated across all models due to time-series dependencies. To resolve this issue, the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) method was employed to account for underlying autocorrelation structures. The linear GLS model (  = 552.6687 - 8.3413t) significantly outperformed both the quadratic and cubic GLS variants; it was the only model that fully satisfied the normality and autocorrelation-free (white noise) assumptions while maintaining a high predictive accuracy with a MAPE of 5.484%. Projections using this optimal linear model indicate a stable, continuous downward trend, predicting the poor population to decrease to 344.17 thousand in 2026 (t = 25) and eventually reach its lowest historical point of 227.41 thousand by 2040 (t = 39).

Abstract

Food safety is an important aspect in maintaining public health, particularly in street foods that are widely consumed by university students. However, the misuse of hazardous food additives such as borax is still found in various food products. This study aims to identify the presence of borax in student snacks sold around the campus of Universitas Negeri Makassar. This research employed a descriptive method with both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The samples consisted of meatballs (bakso), dim sum, noodles, and siomay, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The qualitative test was conducted using turmeric paper, while the quantitative test was carried out using a titration method with 0.1 N H₂SO₄ solution and methyl red indicator. The results showed that in the qualitative test, the noodle sample gave a positive result, indicated by a color change of the turmeric paper to yellowish-brown. Meanwhile, the quantitative test showed that the meatball sample had an average titrant volume of 2.67 mL, which was higher than the borax standard of 2.00 mL, indicating the presence of borax. The dim sum and siomay samples showed negative results for borax content. This study indicates that there is still a potential use of borax in student snacks around the campus environment; therefore, continuous food safety monitoring is required.

Abstract

Natural montmorillonite has attracted considerable attention due to its high cation exchange capacity, layered structure, and potential applications as adsorbents and catalyst supports. However, it generally contains impurity oxides that affect its physicochemical properties. This study aimed to investigate the effect of inorganic acid activation on the metal oxide content and crystalline characteristics of natural montmorillonite obtained from Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The montmorillonite samples were activated using 2 M HCl and 2 M H₂SO₄ through acid leaching treatment. The metal oxide composition and crystalline phases were characterized using X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. The XRF results revealed that Fe₂O₃ was the dominant impurity oxide in natural montmorillonite with a concentration of 31.61%. After acid activation, the Fe₂O₃ content decreased significantly to 21.78% for HCl-treated MMT and 18.83% for H₂SO₄-treated MMT, indicating effective removal of iron oxide impurities. In contrast, the SiO₂ content increased from 39.51% to 40.13% and 41.02% after HCl and H₂SO₄ activation, respectively. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of quartz silica, alumina, and hematite phases, with diffraction peaks at 2θ ≈ 26.6°, 34.2°, and 50.1°, respectively. Acid activation also reduced the average crystallite size from 41.2 nm in natural MMT to 35.1 nm and 29.9 nm after HCl and H₂SO₄ treatment, respectively. The results demonstrate that inorganic acid activation effectively modified the oxide composition and crystalline structure of natural montmorillonite, particularly through the removal of hematite impurities and enhancement of silica-rich phases. Therefore, acid-activated montmorillonite shows promising potential for adsorption and catalytic applications.
