This study aims to analyse the types of interrogative sentences in “After You” Novel and draw the tree diagram. Qualitative method is used to identify the problem and descriptive method also used to explain the analysis. The data took from interrogative sentences in After You Novel. Based on Quirk et al (1985) theory there are 565 interrogative sentences found. The finding is divided into two types there are 227 sentences are belonged to Wh-question and 338 sentences are categorized as Yes-no question. Wh-question divided into two categories 222 sentences categorized as positive Wh-question and 5 sentences belonged to negative Wh-question. Yes-no question divided into five there are 157 sentences categorized as positive yes-no question, 92 sentences categorized as declarative yes-no question, 48 sentences categorized as yes-no question with modal auxiliary, 30 sentences as tag question and 11 sentences as negative yes-no question. Brown and Miller (1991) as guidance theory to draw the tree diagram which need to attach the wh-question word or the auxiliary to the Complementizer.

This study used qualitative method in analyzing the data and documentation method used in collecting the data that found in song lyrics. The data were taken from the song lyrics in Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent album. Based on Cruse (2000) and Cruse (2006) theory there are 507 deixis that found in this study. This study found 369 of person deixis with percentage 73%, 82 data of temporal deixis with percentage 17%, 38 data of spatial deixis with percentage 7%, 7 data of social deixis with percentage 1 % and 11 data of discourse deixis with percentage 2%.

Abstrak This study focused on analyzing the types of illocutionary acts and the implied meaning of illocutionary act found in the characters utterance in Sonic, The Hedgehog movie. This study used the theory proposed by Searle (1979), about the types of illocutionary acts and a theory from Leech (1981), about the meaning. The data were collected by using library research. The method of analyzing the data was descriptive qualitative method. Formal and informal method is used to present the finding. The finding of this study shows that there are 35 data of illocutionary acts found in Sonic, The Hedgehog movie. Those five types of illocutionary acts consist of 10 ( 29%) data of representatives, 14 (40%) data of directives, 5 (14%) of commissives, 5 (14%) data of expressives and 1 (3%) datum of declaratives. Keywords: Illocutionary acts, implied meaning Abstrak Penelitian ini difokuskan untuk menganalisis jenis-jenis tindak tindak ilokusi dan makna tersirat dari tindak ilokusi tersebut yang terkandung di dalam pesan karakter dalam film Sonic, The Hedgehog. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Searle (1979), tentang jenis-jenis tindakan ilokusi dan teori dari Leech (1981), tentang makna. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi pustaka. Data di analisis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Metode formal dan informal digunakan untuk menyajikan temuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 35 data dari tindak ilokusi yang ditemukan dalam film Sonic, The Hedgehog. Kelima jenis ilokusi tersebut terdiri dari 10 (29%) data representatif, 14 (40%) data direktif, 5 (14%) data komisif, 5 (14%) data ekspresif dan 1 (3%) data deklaratif. Language is very important for every people, by using language people can communicate with each other in daily life. There are a lot of studies that discuss language and one of them is onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia is naming objects or actions based on the imitation of sounds associated with the object or actions. It can be divided into five types; Mechanical Onomatopoeia, Fast Motion Onomatopoeia, Musical Onomatopoeia, Fighting Onomatopoeia, and Animals Onomatopoeia. The article entitled “An Analysis Types of Onomatopoeia Words in Batman Beyond Comic, aims to identify the types of onomatopoeic words are found in Batman Beyond comic. To analyze the data, the main theory used in this article is the theory of onomatopoeia proposed by Marry Elizabeth. This research used a descriptive qualitative method to present the data descriptively and qualitatively to support the data found in Batman Beyond. The result of this study shows the types of onomatopoeic which include Mechanical, Fast Motion, Musical, and Fighting Onomatopoeic. From 56 data found in the Batman Beyond Comic, the types of fighting onomatopoeic are most commonly occurring with 26 data and followed by the mechanical onomatopoeic with 17 data, and the fast motion with 12 data.

Nowadays, combining two languages in the communication process often occurs in the bilingual community that is called code-switching. This study concerned code-switching in Deddy Corbuzier’s utterances on his PodCast. This study has specific aims (1) to find out the types of code-switching used by Deddy Corbuzier on his Podcast; (2) to identify the functions of code-switching used in Deddy Corbuzier’s utterances. This study is concerned with code-switching Indonesian-English language in Deddy Corbuzier utterances in PodCast on Spotify. A qualitative method is used for this study for analyzing the data collected from ten podcasts. The method is applied to give a clear description of the data according to the theory proposed by Poplack (1980) as cited in Romaine (1989: 122) and the theory proposed by Appel and Muysken (1987). Type of code-switching which is intra-sentential switching is the most often used in Deddy Corbuzier utterances because Deddy Cobuzier is more comfortable when using words, clauses, and phrases in one sentence to convey motivational messages. Metalinguistic is the dominant function of code-switching in Deddy Corbuzier’s utterances with 76 data (46,79%) as the final result of this study. It occurs because Deddy Corbuzier wanted to impress the other participants with a show of linguistic skill.

This study aims i). to find out the representative speech acts used in Queen Elizabeth II’s speech entitled Queen Urges ‘Self-Discipline and Resolve’ In Corona Virus Speech, ii). to analyse the meaning behind the utterance of Queen Elizabeth II’s speech entitled Queen Urges ‘Self-Discipline and Resolve’ In Corona Virus Speech. The analysis of the data uses qualitative method as the study presented descriptively according to theory of speech acts proposed by Searle (1976) to classify the representative speech acts and theory of contextual meaning proposed by Yule (1996) to analyse the meaning behind the utterances. The informal method is applied in presenting the result of the analysis. The result of this study shows that there are 20 of 28 utterances that identified as representative speech acts used in Queen Elizabeth II’s speech which means the speaker used representative the most in her speech.

When the students are able to identify derivational affix, they can develop their vocabulary because from just one word it can gain many words with different part of speech. Novel is a long essay in prose and contains a series of human life stories with others around them with accentuate the character and nature of the actor. In The Hobbit, the story inspired by a children fantasy. From having seeing such phenomenon, the writer found that mastering English is not easy if the students are lack of vocabulary. This research aimed to find out the derivational affixes in in in The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien novel. This research is descriptive qualitative research where researcher tries to find out the derivational affix and the roots from the words in The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien novel without using statistical calculation. In this research the writer uses all of words that are attached prefix and suffix as the data. The data source is all the chapters which are the beginning of the story, rising the case and the solution in The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien novel. The result of analyzing data was gained the derivational affixes that found in in The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien novel showed words are 100 (derivational suffixes).Then the roots from the words that also found are 27 (adjective derived from verb), 49 (noun derived from verb), 3 (verb derived from noun) and adverb derived from adjective (21) Keywords: Function of Derivational Affixes, novel, root, base

Abstract The purpose of this study is to illustrate the types and functions of code switching presented in Cinta Laura Kiehl's YouTube video. In the collection of data, the non-participatory method of observation Sugiyono was introduced (2009:15). Hoffman's theory (1996) is referred to in the study of data in order to analyze the forms of code switching, and Gumperz's theory (1982) is referred to in order to analyse the functions of code switching. It is done formally and informally to show the product of the analysis. The writer finds three types of code switching after analysing the results. There are intra-sentential 8 data, inter-sentential 2 data and emblematic switching is do not found data related. In the meantime, code switching has four functions; personalization versus objectification, reiteration, interjection, message qualification. This implies that there are two functions in the data that do not appear; quotation and addressee specification, since the utterance by Cinta Laura Kiehl never quote the opinions of other people or switch to direct the message to one or more potential addresses. Abstrak Tujuan dari peneltian ini adalah untuk menggambarkan tipe dan fungsi alih kode yang disajikan dalam vidio Youtube Cinta Laura Kiehl. Dalam pengumpulan data diperkenalkan metode observasi non partisipatif Sugiyono (2009: 15). Teori Hoffman (1996) digunakan dalam studi data untuk menganalisis bentuk alih kode, teori Gumperz (1982) digunakan untuk menganalisis fungsi alih kode. Ini di lakukan secara formal dan informal untuk menunjukan produk analisis. Penulis menemukan tiga jenis alih kode setelah menganalisis hasilnya. Data intra-sentential terdapat 8 data, data inter-sentential 2 dan switching simbolik tidak ditemukan data terkait. Semetara itu, alih kode memiliki emapat fungsi; Personalisasi versus objektifikasi, pengulangan interjeksi, kualifikasi pesan. Ini menyiratkan bahwa ada dua fungsi dalam data yang tidak muncul; Kutipan dan spesifikasi penerima, karena ucapan Cinta Laura Kiehl tidak pernah mengutip pendapat orang lain atau beralih untuk mengarahkan pesan ke sautu atau beberapa alamat potensial.

Language is a medium that can build human relationships with one another or the media to communicate. This research concerns to analyze hyperbole found in drama entitled “Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. In this study, the researcher focuses on the total of hyperbole and the meaning of hyperbole in drama “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare. The researcher used the theory by Knickerbocker & Reninger (1963:367) to analyze the total of hyperbole and used theory by Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning of hyperbole found in drama “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare. The steps in collecting the data in this study are by found, reading, understanding, taking note and classifying the drama script are contain of hyperbole. In this study, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative method. The total of hyperbole found in drama script “Romeo and Juliet” by William Shakespeare was 8 data and three meaning found were conceptual meaning with 1 data and 12.5% of percentage, connotative meaning with 6 data and 75% of percentage and affective meaning with 1 data and 12.5% of percentage. The highest occurrence meaning of hyperbole in this drama script is connotative meaning with 6 data (75%).

An Analysis of Verbal and Non-Verbal Signs in Nivea Nourishing Body Lotion Advertisemnts Ni Nyoman Tri Jayanti; I Dewa Ayu Devi Maharani Santika; Desak Putu Eka Pratiwi

This study is aimed to analyze the meaning of verbal and non-verbal signs which are found in Nivea Nourishing body lotion Signs are commonly used in advertisements in order to make them attractive and can deliver the messages properly. This research used a qualitative data collection approach and the data source came from YouTube Nivea Body advertising for the Nivea Nourishing body lotion. Saussure's (1983) semiotic theory uses this research issue to evaluate verbal and non-verbal signs and Barthes' (1977) theory of meaning to examine the meaning of verbal and non-verbal signs in advertising for body lotion. 5 verbal signs and 9 nonverbal signs were included in the result. In advertisements, most of these signs contain connotative and denotative meanings, with 1 denotative meaning and 13 connotative meanings identified by the researcher. In all ads, the use of connotative significance is prevalent because advertisers use hidden meanings to communicate messages and encourage buyers to try these goods.
