Abstract

  ABSTRACK This research is designed in form of action-based research which involved four steps in each circle, namely planning, action, observation and reflection.  Before treatment, pre-test is conducted in other to know the students’ ability at the beginning. So, the achievement can be compared to the next circle. Circle I consisted of four sessions; three sessions for conducting actions and one session administering post-test I. Circle II consisted of three sessions; two sessions for conducting actions and one session for post-test II. The aim of this research is to know the implementation of flash card game through vocabulary mastery of disabled students at Yayasan Bakti Senang Hati. This research is conducted at Yayasan Bakti Senang Hati which some disabled students are used as the subject of the research. It used seven kategories of vocabulary such as animal, family, fruits, number, things, vegetables and part of body as the instrument in colleting the data. The result of data showed that the use of flash card game could improve the vocabulary mastery of disabled students at Yayasan Bakti Senang Hati. It can be seen from the result of the students’ achievement tests which increased continuously during the application of the technique. During the pre-test, students are able to master 17 vocabularies from each category. Then, after the first Cilcle test there are 13 vocabularies form each category that they got. Therefore, their mastery became 30 vocabularies. Finnaly, it became 59 after the result of second cicle is held. Key words: vocabulary, flash card, implementation

Abstract

Learning about subordinate clause it gives the understandings of the fuller descriptions of the main clause. This study aimed to find out the types of subordinate clause in complex sentences found in China Daily Newspaper. The data was collected through library research. This study used qualitative analysis method to describe and analysis the data found. The theory proposed by Miller (2002) is used to analyze the types of subordinate clause in complex sentences. The data analysis was presented through formal and informal method. Based on the result, there were three types of subordinate clause found in China daily Newspaper, namely relative clause, adverbial clause, and complement clause. This research found 61 subordinate clauses of complex sentences. Among the three types of subordinate clause, Relative clause is the most frequently found as modifier which 32 data or 52% and followed by Adverbial clause which 20 data or 33%. While the least frequently found is Complement clause which 9 data or 15%.

Abstract

Ellipsis is a branch of syntax that study about elimination word to avoid repetition word in the sentence. This study concern to find out the types of elliptical sentence and analyze the constituent structure of sentence in the novel by Peter Corris in title Open File A Cliff Hardy. This study applied the theory proposed by Quirk and Greenbaum (1973) to find out the types of elliptical sentence and the theory from Brown and Miller (1991) to analyze the constituent structure of sentence. The data were collected by documentation method and analyzed descriptively by qualitative method. The finding shows that there are five types of elliptical sentence which the most dominant is ellipsis of subject (and auxiliary)

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of subordinate clause and the most occurring type of subordinate clause which found in Gulliver’s Travels Novel. The quantitative and qualitative method are applied to analysed the data which based on the theory from (Miller, 2002) and supported theory by (Kroeger, 2005). The study found that complement clause, relative clause, and adverbial clause were the types of subordinate clause found in this novel. The complementizers found in the complement clause namely that. In the relative clause, the conjunction found such as which, that, who, whose, whom, how, and Ø. Meanwhile, the conjunctions found in adverbial clause are before, where, when (time), as (manner), although (concession), and if, that (condition). There were total 35 sentences containing subordinate clause found in the novel such as 3 sentences (8,6%) of complement clause, 19 sentences (54,3%) of relative clause, and 13 sentences (37,1%). Therefore, the most occurring type of subordinate clause found in the novel is relative clause as subordinate clause with total 19 sentences (54,3%). Especially, the type of non-restrictive with 15 sentences found.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the types of language functions in The Perfect Date Movie. This study is aimed to answer the research problems, which are: (1) to find out the types of language functions used by the main character of The Perfect Date movie and (2) to analyse the types of languages style are found in utterances produced by the main character of The Perfect Date movie. It used a descriptive qualitative method to identify data. Types of language function and language style was described according to the theory proposed by Tillit and Bruder (1985). The result of this study was found 75 data. The 75 data were classified into eleven types of language function which found in the utterances produced by the main character and three types of language styles. The types of language function which found eleven types of language function proposed by Tillit and Bruder (1985) were twelve of openings, pre-openings, and closings type, four data of introduction and addressing system type, seven data of invitations type, eight data of thanking people and replying thanks type, three data of apologizing type, ten data of giving compliments and replying complements type, two data of getting people’s attention and interrupting, two data of agreeing and disagreeing type, seven data of controlling the conversation type, and two data of getting information e language style which was found were ten data of formal expression, thirty nine data of informal expression and twenty six data of neutral expression. The most types of language function found in this study is getting information because the main character feel free and more comfortable expressing their emotional in a language.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are to know the function of derivational affixes and to analyze the word structure of derivational affixes found in HighEnd Magazine. This study focused on the function and the word structure of affixes attached in each word found in HighEnd Magazine. The magazine entitled HighEnd Magazine is used as the data source. In this research, the writer used the observation method in collecting the data and the qualitative method was used to analyze the data. The data were analyzed by using theory from Katamba (1993) and Carstairs and McCarthy (2002). The researcher used formal and informal methods to present the result of the analysis. There are 302 words attached by derivational affixes found in HighEnd Magazine. There are two functions of derivational morpheme they are class changing morpheme and class maintaining morpheme.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the derived process of derivational morpheme found in “The Power of a Positive Wife Book” This study focused on: The derived process of each derivational morpheme used in “The Power of a Positive Wife Book.”  Qualitative and supported by quantitative method was used in this research and the data source was “The Power of a Positive Wife” Book. The method used in collecting the data was descriptive qualitative method. The result of the analysis was presented by using formal and informal method. In affixes, have three types as follows: suffix, infix and prefix. There are nine types of derived process of derivational morpheme such as Noun derived from Adjective, Adjective derived from Noun, Noun derived from Noun, Verb derived from Verb, Noun derived from Verb, Adjective derived from Adjective, Verb derived from Noun, Adjective derived from Verb and Adverb derived from Adjective. The frequencies of each kind of derivational morpheme are different to each other. The most frequently occurring were derived adverb from adjective and the most rarely occurring was derived Adjective from Adjective. Derived verb from Adjective and derived adjective from verb were not found in this data source.  The total data of derivational morpheme found in The Power of a Positive Wife Book was 195 words.

Abstract

This study attempts to describe imperative sentence in “The Guidance iPhone Support Website”. The aim of this study to investigate the types of imperative sentences and to determine the constituent structure by using tree diagram. The data were collected through library research by reading the e-guidance, note taking and classifying the data based on imperative sentence. The analysis of the data was conducted qualitative method and presented descriptively based on the theory proposed by Quirk et al. (1985) in classifying the types of imperative sentence and the theory proposed by Brown and Miller (1991) is used in analysing the constituent structure by using tree diagram. The method that applied in presenting the result of the analysis was used formal and informal methods. There are two types of imperative sentences found In “The Guidance of iPhone Support Website”, as follows: imperative without subject with a total of 242 or 98,4% and negative imperative with a total of 4 or 1,6%. The constituent structure of imperative sentence is described by tree diagram. The constituent of imperative sentence found in data consists of an omitted subject and negative form.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the types of interrogative sentences in “After You” Novel and draw the tree diagram. Qualitative method is used to identify the problem and descriptive method also used to explain the analysis. The data took from interrogative sentences in After You Novel. Based on Quirk et al (1985) theory there are 565 interrogative sentences found. The finding is divided into two types there are 227 sentences are belonged to Wh-question and 338 sentences are categorized as Yes-no question. Wh-question divided into two categories 222 sentences categorized as positive Wh-question and 5 sentences belonged to negative Wh-question. Yes-no question divided into five there are 157 sentences categorized as positive yes-no question, 92 sentences categorized as declarative yes-no question, 48 sentences categorized as yes-no question with modal auxiliary, 30 sentences as tag question and 11 sentences as negative yes-no question. Brown and Miller (1991) as guidance theory to draw the tree diagram which need to attach the wh-question word or the auxiliary to the Complementizer.

Abstract

This research mainly aims at finding out the types and describing the meaning of compound words found in the novel The Land of Stories The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer. This novel consists of 438 pages with 24 chapters. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this research to analyze the data. This research used the theory from McCarthy (2002) and Ullman (1972). The result of this research shows there are three types of compound words found, namely; compound noun, compound adjective, and compound verb with 106 total data found. Meanwhile, there are two kinds of meaning found, those are transparent and opaque meaning.
