Abstract

The problem of Biology learning at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang, namely that learning still uses conventional methods, where teachers talk more, ask questions and tell stories to inform all the facts and concepts of learning, the low number of positive activities that students remember is due to the learning techniques used by The teacher does not facilitate students to be more active in receiving the material presented by the teacher. This affects the low motivation and learning outcomes of students. To overcome this problem, the demonstration method is used. This research is an experimental research with a non-equivalent groups pretest-posttest design which aims to determine the effect of the demonstration method on the motivation and learning outcomes of class XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang. The population of this study was all class XI SMA Negeri 11 Semarang with a total of 141 students. Sampling was carried out using a purposive sampling technique with class XIF as the experimental class and class XIE as the control class. The independent variable in this research is the demonstration method and the dependent variable, namely motivation and student learning outcomes. Data on student motivation results were analyzed descriptively and results were obtained at the first meeting with a percentage of 50% and categorized as low, then at the second meeting with a percentage of 62.5% categorized as quite high, because there was an increase at each meeting, it was concluded that the use of the demonstration method could improve Learning motivation of class XIF students at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang. Data on student learning outcomes were analyzed using a two-party t-test with the polled variance t-test formula. At a significance level of 5%, the degrees of freedom (dk=43) obtained tcount > ttable (3.280 > 2.014), so Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. So from the results of the analysis of learning outcomes it can be concluded that the use of the demonstration method influences the learning outcomes of class XI students at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang.

Abstract

Reading is one of the four language skills taught in English learning process. Reading comprehension is the process of making meaning from the texts. Reading comprehension is the ability of the students to read the English reading texts, process the texts, and understand its meaning and integrated with what the reader already knows. The students had still low ability and high difficulties in comprehend the text. This study deals with the abilities and difficulties of the students in comprehending English reading texts. This research study aimed (a) to know the students’ reading abilities in comprehending English text, (b) to find out the students’ difficulties in comprehending English text, (c) to identify factors of causing the students’ difficulties in comprehending English text. The research employed qualitative research method. Data were collected through documentation/worksheet test and interview by 25 students’ and English teacher at senior high school in Sakra Timur. Among other findings, the present study reports that the students’ ability in comprehending English reading texts focus on descriptive text was still low. They had got low ability because they had high difficulties in comprehending English text. The difficulties faced by the students were determining main idea, understanding vocabulary, difficulties in making inference, and to looking for the detail information. The factors were causing the students’ difficulties in comprehending consist of two factors internal and external. The internal factors consist of the student difficulties in understanding long sentence, inadequate instruction presented by teacher, and difficulties in understanding vocabulary). The external factor consists of school and house environment. The other problem is the students’ lack of motivation, lack of interest in English, and lack of participant in English learning process. Their low in reading comprehension was due to their difficulties in comprehension.

Abstract

Learning handouts are printed teaching materials that contain important points of the material that will be presented or taught by students. This research aims to develop a handout on identifying ectoparasites in bats in animal ecology courses. The type of research used is development research using the 4D model approach (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate) which in Indonesian has been adapted into the 4P model (Definition, Design, Development, and Dissemination). However, in this development research, the researcher only reached the 3P stage (Definition, Design, and Development) which was validated by three expert validators (material or content expert, display expert, and language expert) and readability test by students. Based on the results of the validation analysis of teaching materials, it shows that the ecological handouts validated by three expert validators, namely material or content experts, are suitable for use without revision with an average score of 4.12, appearance experts are suitable for use without revision with an average score of 4. 28, and linguists are suitable for use without revision with an average score of 4, as well as a readability test by 15 students with an average score of 3 with a category suitable for use without revision. Therefore, the teaching materials in the form of ecological handouts developed are suitable for use by students.

Abstract

Education is an effort made to achieve a certain goal. Through these efforts, it is hoped that students can increase their knowledge and explore the potential they have, so that it can be useful for themselves and others. The aim of this research is to determine student learning outcomes through the application of the guided discovery learning model. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research. This research design is a one shot case study. The population in this study were class VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsari. The sample used in this research was class VIIA and VII B of SMP Negeri 2 Gunungsari. The instrument used in this research is a learning outcomes test sheet. In this research, the type of test used was a multiple choice form with 4 answer choices. One correct answer and three wrong answers, the score for each question is one if correct and zero if incorrect. The data analysis techniques used are individual and classical completeness and indicator completeness. Based on the research data, it can be stated that of the 10 indicators tested in the pretest, all indicators had an average percentage of completeness of 13.4%, while in the posttest all indicators had an average percentage of completeness of 64.5%. Thus it can be concluded that the application of the Guided Discovery Learning (GDL) model can improve student learning outcomes. This is because this learning can invite students to play an active role, students are able to interact, collaborate with their group friends, and involve the students' initial abilities.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the validity of the ecology practicum instructions. This research is categorized as development research. Data collection techniques employed validation testing. The data analysis technique used the percentage technique. The research findings indicate that the average validity test score of the ecology practicum instructions is 73.33%, categorized as valid. These results suggest that the compiled ecology practicum instructions falls under the valid category and does not require revision.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the readability test results of ecology practicum instructions among students, involving the participation of 15 students. The research design used was descriptive research. The method employed included measuring the comprehension level through readability tests of the provided ecology practicum instructions. The research findings indicate that 90% of the 15 students achieved a good level of comprehension of the ecology practicum instructions provided. These findings suggest that the development and presentation strategies of ecology practicum instructions can play a crucial role in enhancing students' understanding of ecology practical materials. The implications of this study underscore the importance of attention to the design of practicum instructions that support effective learning in ecology within the context of higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of peer tutoring methods on mathematics learning achievement with mixed operation material among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Surabaya. This research employs a quasi-experimental design. The population of the study consists of all fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Surabaya. The sample was determined by directly observing a single group of subjects under two conditions without a comparison group, making each subject their own control group. The research design used is a one group pre-test post-test design. Data collection techniques involve achievement tests. The data were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that the learning achievement data were analyzed using a t-test, resulting in rhitung = 0.859 and rtabel = 0.374 at a 5% significance level, meaning H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. For the significance test, thitung > ttabel was obtained, specifically 7.88 > 0.374, thus it can be concluded that there is an effect of the peer tutoring method on mathematics learning achievement with mixed operation material among fourth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Surabaya for the 2016/2017 academic year.

Abstract

The low ranking of Indonesia in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) in 2018 has led to the promotion of developing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in education. The implementation of HOTS-oriented learning is expected to help Indonesia catch up in PISA rankings. The initial effort by the government involved using HOTS-type questions in the national exams of 2018. However, many education experts have criticized this approach, arguing that the learning process in schools has not yet been oriented towards HOTS. Implementing HOTS in the education system presents a significant challenge, especially when many aspects of learning still focus on factual knowledge and memorization. Therefore, there is a need to develop HOTS-oriented learning and integrate it into the educational process. One way to encourage HOTS in learning is by designing reflective learning through the application of self-assessment. This study aims to provide a theoretical review of the application of self-assessment to enhance HOTS. This research is a library research study. The author gathered data through literature review from various sources such as books, journals, academic papers, and other relevant documents and literature.

Abstract

Initial observations revealed that only two students were able to recite the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) optimally, while six other students were not able to recite the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) optimally. This can be expressed as 25% of students were able to recite the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) optimally, and 75% of students were not. This study aims to improve students' skills in reciting the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) using audio-visual media. The research type is qualitative descriptive. The data collection technique used in this study is observation. The purpose of the observation is to gather data about the learning process in the classroom. Data collected from observations are recorded on the provided observation sheets, then analyzed and presented in percentage (%). The results show that, after the actualization activity, seven students were able to recite the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) optimally, while only one student was not able to do so. This translates to 87.5% of students being able to recite the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya) optimally, and 12.5% of students being able to recite some parts of the prayer (Puja Tri Sandhya).

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the results of the readability test of the invertebrate systematics module that has been prepared and provide recommendations for improvement. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research instrument used was a student readability test sheet. The data analysis technique used is the percentage technique. Based on the results of the student readability test, an average of 3.22 was obtained, the module was declared very valid and suitable to be used as a reference source for Invertebrate Systematics teaching materials.
