Abstract

The service activity aims to hold a bioacoustic workshop for students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education, with the theme of overcoming the problem of wildlife biodiversity research during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This is done so that students know, recognize types of bioacoustics, and understand how to use bioacoustic tools to be used as an alternative to track and identify wild animals without touching or even catching animals that are the object of observation. Bioacoustics is used as a tool to identify the presence of wildlife, the output of the bioacoustic method can also be used to calculate various biodiversity indices, such as the Acoustic Diversity Index (ADI). Bioacoustics is one alternative that can be done in wildlife biodiversity research during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method of implementing the service consists of several stages, including: 1) coordination of activities; 2) preparation of activity tools and materials; 3) implementation of activities: on the first day of socialization (description of bioacoustics and introduction of bioacoustic types) and the second day of carrying out practice and mentoring (practice on how to use bioacoustic tools in the campus environment and assistance in data collection and analysis of bioacoustic data); 4) evaluation; and 5) preparation of reports and publications. Service activities have been carried out on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 14.00 WITA through the Zoom Meeting room and Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Mandalika Education University Campus. The activity was attended by 30 students and students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education. On the first day, the team provided materials related to bioacoustics. The material was delivered by a resource person from the Sumatra Institute of Technology (Mhd Muhajir Hasibuan, M.Si) through the Zoom Meeting room. On the second day, the service team gave an example of how to record wildlife sounds using Audio Month. Students were quite enthusiastic about the implementation of this activity, because this was the first time this activity was carried out in Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education. Outcomes and targets for achievement in service activities are the publication of articles in Nuras: Journal of Community Service (Accepted), videos of the implementation of activities on Youtube (Online/accessible), increasing the empowerment of partners (students of biology education study program) by providing socialization, mentoring, and practice of using bioacoustic equipment (Achievable).

Abstract

Partners are in the city of Mataram, namely the Nurul Islam Sekarbela Islamic boarding school. Starting from the problems of the boarding school, including the low level of independent health of students who are staying and also supported by economic needs in the management of Islamic boarding schools, on the other hand, the cottage has a fairly large yard/land but is still not managed optimally. In our service activities, we provide two things that become solutions to the problems of partners at the Nurul Islam Islamic Boarding School, namely by providing education on the application of land management / boarding school yards with the Agroforestry system. Agroforestry system is a system of land / yard management by combining farming, forestry and animal husbandry systems. This system will increase land productivity while conserving land, promoting aesthetics with flowering plants, and the farm that we will combine is trigona bee cultivation. In the aspect of cultivation, we will combine agricultural and forestry crops and choose bee-feeding plants, namely resin and pollen supply plants. Meanwhile, from the aspect of cultivation, the team provided assistance in providing flowering tree seeds of the Kaliandra species, etc. The service implementation team held technical guidance activities on how to plant on peat land for the right types of trees and planting patterns.

Abstract

Senyiur Hamlet is one of the hamlets located in Senyiur Village, Keruak District, East Lombok Regency. The purpose of this service activity is to increase the knowledge and skills of the community in Senyiur Hamlet about processing corn into Corn Cake. In addition, it can provide alternative post-harvest handling of corn, especially corn that is able to produce products that are acceptable to consumers, provide alternatives to consumers of corn-based products, and open up opportunities for developing agribusiness-based home industries. Methods of activities carried out include: 1) Site surveys and discussions on the technical implementation of activities with partners (Head of Senyiur Hamlet); 2) Determination of targets to be invited, resource persons who will provide knowledge and training; 3) Determination of students who will become assistants when making processed corn products; 4) Submission of materials on the benefits and various processed products based on Corn; 5) Demonstration of processing corn pudding, corn cake and ice corn and 6) Evaluation of Target Knowledge and Motivation. Based on this activity, it is hoped that there will be an increase in community knowledge and skills in processing corn into snacks that have high economic value.

Abstract

The objectives of this service activity are: 1) to introduce and train the abilities of students of the Department of Biology Education, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, Mandalika University of Education in plant cutting techniques in an effort to propagate hypoestes plants; and 2) teach which practical science is faster, the growth of hypoestes roots immersed in well water or B1 mixed water. Service activities are carried out within 1 day (plus follow-up activities in the form of observations for 3-6 days at each home). The stages of this service activity are: 1) introduction; 2) cutting practice activities; and 3) follow-up activities (observations). One day activity is devoted to the practice of cutting techniques, then the cut plants are immersed in water to observe root growth (observation for 3-6 days). Based on the results of the activity evaluation, it can be concluded that the purpose of this service activity has been achieved in accordance with expectations. This achievement can be seen from the student's ability to cut hypoestes plants, and students are able to grow the roots of the cut plants after 6 days of immersion.

Abstract

Anemia is a medical condition in which the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin is less than normal. Normal hemoglobin levels are generally different in men and women. For men anemia is usually defined as a hemoglobin level  of  less  than  13.5  grams/100  ml. Anemia is a common blood disorder that occurs when the level of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in the body becomes too low. This can cause health problems, because red blood cells contain hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to body tissues. Anemia can cause various complications including fatigue and stress on the body's organs. Anemia occurs due to lack of iron and folic acid in the body. Women who suffer from anemia will have an impact on pregnancy and have the potential to give birth to babies with low birth weight. Besides that, Anemia can result in the death of both mother and baby during childbirth. This community service aims to provide knowledge about the importance of consuming a variety of foods that contain iron. The implementation procedure is carried out by counseling youth about the importance of nutrition in preventing anemia, so that the problem of anemia in Indonesia can be resolved. The solution to the problem is to teach teenagers about the importance of knowing balanced nutrition and the importance of consuming iron, so it is hoped that adolescents do not experience anemia. The expected achievement target is that teenagers understand and know how to prevent the nutritional problem of anemia.

Abstract

Food Additives (FA) are ingredients/mixtures which are not naturally part of food raw materials, but are added to food with the aim of influencing the nature or shape of the food. Food additives are usually widely used by food industry companies as ingredients that can produce food structures that attract the attention of consumers and obtain large profits with the smallest capital. Lack of public knowledge about the dangers and how to identify Food Additives (FA) is one of the factors that many people continue to consume without thinking about the impacts that occur. The long-term impact of consuming Food Additives (FA) is the emergence of various diseases such as cancer, tumors, kidney disease, sore throat and others. This is especially true for elementary school children who really like to consume sweet, colorful, tasteful and eye-catching foods that are sold freely around their school environment. The aim of this community service is to become a means to share information on chemical food additives and simple ways to detect these food additives. From the results of the socialization, elementary school children were taught how to identify foods that contain borax in a very simple and very easy way to do so that it can be the first step in protecting themselves from consuming foods that contain dangerous food additives.
