Abstract

This study investigates linguistic errors found in the abstracts of undergraduate theses written by students of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature, Faculty of Adab and Humanities, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research analyzed 50 thesis abstracts and identified 60 language errors categorized into three main types: phonological and morphological errors, morphological and syntactic errors, and syntactic and semantic errors. The findings show that the most common phonological error involves the incorrect use of hamzah, reflecting a lack of adherence to Arabic orthographic conventions. Morphological and syntactic errors consist of inaccurate verb conjugations, incorrect noun forms, and sentence structures that deviate from standard Arabic grammar. Semantic errors appear as vague or incoherent expressions, frequently resulting from syntactic mistakes and inappropriate word choices. The study identifies three principal causes of these errors: insufficient mastery of Arabic grammar and morphology, limited vocabulary prompting reliance on unchecked translation tools, and inadequate supervisory feedback from academic advisors. This research highlights the urgent need to strengthen Arabic academic writing instruction and encourages more active lecturer involvement to ensure that students' theses meet both academic and linguistic standards.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the behaviorism theory in Arabic language learning and its impact on the design, implementation, and evaluation of the learning process. Additionally, it highlights the advantages and limitations of behaviorism in the context of Arabic language education. The research employs a literature review method, involving the process of searching, selecting, evaluating, collecting, and analyzing data from various sources. This approach allows researchers to gain a deeper understanding and synthesize relevant findings. The study’s findings indicate that: First, behaviorism emphasizes observable behavior, the use of positive reinforcement, clear feedback, repetition, and the active role of teachers as facilitators. Second, in behaviorism-based instructional design, key aspects include structured objectives, a supportive learning environment, positive reinforcement, and repeated practice. Third, teachers serve as leaders, facilitators, and feedback providers, while students play an active role in the learning process. Fourth, evaluation in Arabic language learning is conducted through objective assessment, progress monitoring, and feedback provision. Fifth, although effective in shaping behavior, this theory has limitations in addressing cognitive aspects, intrinsic motivation, and individual differences.

Abstract

Eighth-grade students at MTs Al-Irfan Tanjungsari Sumedang are facing low reading skills in Arabic language lessons. This issue is caused by the conventional, teacher-centered teaching methods, which result in students being less active in the learning process. This study aims to determine how the jigsaw cooperative learning model is applied to improve the students' reading skills and whether this model can enhance their reading abilities. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) of a descriptive nature. The data was collected from the Arabic language teacher as the research subject and the eighth-grade students as the research objects, using tests, observations, and documents for data collection. The data analysis method in this study used percentages. The results showed that after using the Cooperative Learning Model of the Jigsaw type, students' reading skills improved, reaching the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). In the first cycle, students' reading skills reached 50%, and in the second cycle, it increased to 80%. From these results, it can be concluded that there is an improvement in students' reading skills using the Cooperative Learning Model of the Jigsaw type.

Abstract

This study explores the theological foundations in the development of the Arabic language curriculum as an integrative effort between Islamic values and contemporary educational needs. The Arabic language curriculum is not merely viewed as a linguistic instrument but also as a medium for character building, strengthening of Islamic faith (aqidah), and preservation of the Islamic scientific heritage. The aim of this study is to uncover theological dimensions that can serve as a basis for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Arabic language curriculum in Islamic educational institutions. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, critically examining primary and secondary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic educational literature, and curriculum documents. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using a descriptive-analytical method. The results of the study reveal five main theological dimensions that can underpin the development of the Arabic language curriculum: monotheism (tawhid), revelation as a source of knowledge, worship (ibadah) as the goal of learning, Islamic education (tarbiyah Islamiyah) as a holistic educational process, and Islamic civilization as a historical and cultural framework. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating theological values in constructing an Arabic language curriculum that is not only academically functional but also spiritually transformative.

Abstract

This research discusses oppression of women and the patriarchal system in Nawal el Saadawi's novel Catatan Dari Penjara Perempauan uses a radical feminism approach. The novel shows how women experience structural repression institutionalized by the state, religion, and patriarchal culture. The female characters in the novel are depicted as subjects whose bodies and minds are controlled by the system of power, but also show various forms of active resistance to this domination. Through symbolic actions, verbal expressions, and legal awareness, they dismantle oppressive power relations. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with literature study techniques on the text of the novel as the main data source. The analysis was conducted by identifying forms of oppression and women's resistance reflected in the novel's narrative. The radical feminism approach is used because it is able to unravel the ideological roots of oppression against women, especially through control over women's bodies and expressions in a patriarchal system and authoritarian regime. The results show that this novel is not only a record of Nawal El Saadawi's personal experience, but also an ideological field of resistance to systemic patriarchal power. Thus, this study emphasizes the role of literature as a medium of social criticism and a space for struggle for gender equality.

Abstract

The research found that this song contains profound symbols related to spiritual love. The symbol of the heart or qalb is the center of the marker in the semiotics of love in this text. This paper aims to analyze the representation of double meaning in the song Qolbi Fiil Madinah by Maher Zain using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The three levels of meaning-denotation, connotation, and myth-illustrate the complexity of understanding a text. This song was chosen because it contains strong religious symbolism and conveys spiritual messages through lyrics that are rich in denotative and connotative meanings. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with Barthes' semiotic analysis technique that includes three stages of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The results show that the song lyrics represent spiritual longing for the Prophet Muhammad SAW and the City of Medina through metaphors, symbols, and poetic diction. The city of Medina is not only interpreted as a geographical place, but also as a symbol of peace of mind and spiritual closeness. Shalawat becomes a semiotic form to convey love for the Prophet Muhammad. The song also functions as a medium of da'wah that conveys religious values and love for the Prophet in an aesthetic and emotional form. This finding shows that religious music can be an effective means of cultural and spiritual communication in modern society. This research is expected to broaden the horizons in the study of literature, music and semiotics, and become a reference in understanding the multiple meanings contained in contemporary Islamic artworks.

Abstract

This study examines the ideological foundations in the development of the Arabic language curriculum as part of a strategic effort to shape national identity, Islamic values, and cultural integrity within the educational system. The Arabic language curriculum functions not only as a medium for language learning but also as a means of internalizing educational ideologies that reflect Islamic, national, and humanistic visions. The study aims to identify and analyze the ideological dimensions that influence the direction and content of the Arabic language curriculum, particularly in Islamic educational institutions. A qualitative approach is employed using a literature review method, analyzing various sources related to educational ideology, curriculum, and language policy. Data were collected through documentation of primary and secondary sources and analyzed using descriptive-analytical methods. The findings reveal three main ideological foundations in the development of the Arabic language curriculum: religious ideology (Islam as a core value), national ideology (Arabic as part of the heritage of Indonesian Muslims), and humanistic ideology (character development and global ethics). These findings affirm that the Arabic language curriculum must be developed with consideration of ideological contexts that strengthen students’ identity as faithful, knowledgeable, and morally upright individuals.

Abstract

Film has the ability to convey implicit messages through its visual imagery. Capernaum, therefore, presents various forms of criticism, values, and norms. Directed by Nadine Labaki, this film portrays powerful messages of humanity and offers sharp social criticism in response to the realities faced by marginalized communities in large cities. The purpose of this study is to examine the social criticism presented in the film Capernaum. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method, as well as a quantitative approach, based on Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory. The researcher will carefully select specific scenes that reflect the concept of self-meaning. These scenes will then be analyzed in terms of their meaning through the components of sign, object, and interpretant as found in the film. The findings of this research reveal that Capernaum contains various forms of social criticism, including criticism of child exploitation, structural poverty, social class inequality, domestic violence, and the involvement of children in drug trafficking
