Abstract

Gnetum gnemon L. has antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi because it contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins, alkaloids, and steroids. Where these compounds play an important role as an antibacterial. The purpose of this service is to provide information to the public regarding the benefits of melinjo leaves which can act as an antibacterial agent. This service activity is carried out in the form of socialization using lecture, question and answer, and demonstration methods. The number of participants in this community service activity was 20 pharmacists at Grandmed Lubuk Pakam Hospital. Based on the results of the PkM activities carried out, it can be stated that there has been an increase in public knowledge regarding the efficacy of melinjo leaves as an antibacterial substance. This can be proven by the increase in post-test scores when compared to pre-test scores. The average increase in the knowledge of PkM participants was 21.5. On the other hand, the highest post-test score obtained was 85, while the lowest post-test score was 60. Meanwhile, based on the PkM material that had been socialized, the PkM participants understood that the results of phytochemical tests on melinjo leaf Simplicia showed that melinjo leaf extract contains compounds alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. Meanwhile, the antibacterial test showed that the inhibition zones of various concentrations included a moderate concentration of 40%, a moderate category of 60%, and a strong category of 80%. The average diameter of the inhibition zone increased with each concentration of melinjo leaves.

Abstract

Syrup is a beverage product resulting from the production of a mixture of water and sugar at a content of not less than 65%, whether or not ingredients are in the form of food with or without food additives, which have received permission to use according to the regulations of the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency of the Republic of Indonesia. Fruit syrup is made from fresh fruit juice with sugar and the taste and aroma of the fruit. Fruits used in syrup production must have an attractive color, aroma and distinctive taste. Example the taste and aroma of passion fruit (Passiflora edulis S) and sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L). Sweet orange and passion fruit are used as a source of fruit syrup juice. Sweet oranges are widely grown in Indonesia, including North Sumatra, especially in Gung Pinto Village, Tanah Karo. During the main harvest, there is usually a decrease in the price of oranges so that farmers are reluctant to pick the fruit which has been the foundation of their lives. This problem triggers farmers to look for solutions so that their crops do not rot on the trees. Community Service is here to provide a solution by increasing the skills of the community to make Passion Fruit Syrup for the people in the village of Gung Pinto Tanah Karo. The service is carried out by training how to make Passion-Orange syrup by doing direct practice and evaluating the resulting product with a hedonic test. The results showed that the Passion-Orange syrup product showed very good color, taste, aroma and texture, and the public was very happy with the results of the Passion-Orange syrup product. The conclusion of the service shows that the syrup product produced is very good and the community is very happy with the results of the syrup product.

Abstract

Diarrhea is an endemic disease in Indonesia and is also a disease that can potentially cause extraordinary events that are often accompanied by death. Escherichia coli is a commensal bacterium, intestinal pathogen and extraintestinal pathogen that can cause urinary tract infections, meningitis, and septicemia. Most of the E. coli bacteria are in the digestive tract of animals as well as humans and are normal flora, but some are pathogenic that can cause diarrhea in humans (Bettelheim, 2000). Water is very potential in the spread of various diseases, for example water contaminated by pathogens and drunk by humans can cause disease (water born disease). Food and water contamination has been identified as a potential source of the spread of Escherichia coli pathogenicity in humans. The method has the disadvantage of taking a long time, a large number of samples, and an incorrect reading method of results. PCR technique is one of the molecular techniques used to identify infectious diseases caused by Escherchia coli. This method has many advantages that can produce accurate, fast, specific product amplification, requiring a small number of samples. and this method can be used to overcome the weaknesses of conventional diagnostics (cultures). The purpose of this study was to socialize the detection of Escherichia coli bacteria in well water samples by culture and PCR methods. From the examination that has been done obtained the results of cultural examination obtained colonies that grow on the medium Mac Conkey To appear round, flat edges, smooth surface with the color of the colony, then the results of pcr examination obtained 239 bp, which means bacteria found from the isolation of well water samples in the bottom of the identic pakam with Escherichia coli.As well as workshop participants can follow and understand the materials submitted and also the examination procedures carried out.

It is hoped that with the holding of this community service activity, pregnant women can have a more mature preparation to carry out normal labor and it is recommended that they can apply it during normal labor, especially during labor.
