Abstract

This research was aimed to study curative effect of sour soup seed powder on cattle invested with ticks and goat infected with scabies. This study was using 12 cattle invested with ticks and 12 goats with scabies. The cattle divided into 4 groups (S1, S2, S3 and S4) while goats were divided into 3 groups (K1, K2, and K3) equally. For cattle with ticks group S1 received water (control group), while group S2, S3, and S4 received 1%, 5%, and 10% sour soup powder respectively. Ticks that fell to the ground and not engorged were collected and identified. Statistical analysis showed that all concentrations of sour soup were effective in paralyzing and or killing ticks of the genera Boophilus sp. and Dermacentor sp. but were not effective against Rhipicepalus sp. For goats with scabies, groups K1, K2, and K3 received 1, 5 and 10% sour soup powder respectively mixed with water applied to whole area of infected and uninfected skin surrounding infected area. Number of mites per cm2 before and after treatment was counted. Statistical analysis showed that 1, 5, and 10% sour soup powder effective in reducing the number of scabies mites on day 1 and 7 after treatment and were significantly different from those number of mites before treatment (P0.01). Statistical analysis also showed that no significant difference among concentration of sour soup seed powder in decreasing the number of mites (P0.05).

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui perbandingan efektivitas pemberian hormon prostaglandin komersial yang berbeda terhadap persentase berahi dan kebuntingan kambing peranakan ettawa. Kambing betina yang digunakan mempunyai kriteria umur 2,5-3,5 tahun, sehat, tidak bunting, minimal 2 bulan pasca partus, sudah pernah beranak, dan mempunyai bobot badan yang relatif sama. Di samping itu digunakan 2 ekor kambing jantan untuk membantu deteksi berahi. Hewan percobaan dibagi atas 3 kelompok perlakuan, masing-masing kelompok terdiri atas 5 ekor kambing. Kelompok perlakuan I diinjeksi dengan 2,5 ml Lutalyse (dinoprost tromethamine 5 mg/ml dan benzil alkohol 1,65%), kelompok perlakuan II diinjeksi dengan 0,5 ml Prostavet (etiproston 5 mg/2 ml dan ethylen dioxy 15 mg/2 ml), dan kelompok perlakuan III diinjeksi dengan 1,5 ml Capriglandin (dinoprost tromethamine 5,5 mg/ml dan benzil alkohol 12,0 mg/ml). Penyuntikan dilakukan 2 kali secara intramuskuler dengan interval 10 hari setelah penyuntikan pertama. Kambing-kambing yang memperlihatkan gejala berahi dikawinkan secara inseminasi buatan. Diagnosis kebuntingan dilakukan dengan menggunakan USG 30 hari setelah inseminasi. Data onset berahi dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian, sedangkan persentase berahi dan kebuntingan dianalisis secara deskriptif. Onset berahi ketiga kelompok perlakuan masing-masing adalah 40,8±0,57 36,0±0,57 dan 50,4±1,52 jam (P0,05). Persentase berahi pada ketiga kelompok adalah sama yakni 100%, sedangkan persentase kebuntingan pada kelompok I, II, dan III masing-masing adalah 100, 80, dan 60%. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa onset dan persentase berahi tidak dipengaruhi oleh ketiga prostaglandin komersial yang berbeda tetapi berpengaruh terhadap persentase kebuntingan kambing PE.

Abstract

 The research was aimed to evaluate feeding effect of powder and extract of dahlia tuber as a sources of inulin prebiotic on protein digestibility and productivity of crossbred local chicken. A total of 280 unsex local crossbred chicken with the age of 22 days and average weight of 180.46±1.21 g was assigned in a completely randomized design with 7 treatments and 4 replications (10 birds each). Dietary treatments consist of T0 (basal ration), T1 (T0 + 0.4% dahlia powder), T2 (T0 + 0.8% dahlia powder), T3 (T0 + 1.2% dahlia powder), T4 (T0 + 0.39% dahlia extract), T5 (T0 + 0.78% dahlia extract), T6 (T0 + 1.17% extract dahlia). Treatment was conducted for 8 consecutive weeks. Variables observed were protein digestibility, short chain fatty acid (SCFA), muscle protein mass, muscle calsium mass, and body weight. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by Duncan test at the level of 5%. The results showed that feeding inulin in the form of powder or extract of dahlia tuber significantly (P0.05) increased protein digestibility, SCFA level, and body weight. Treatments T2 until T6 significantly (P0.05) increased muscle calsium mass but did not increase muscle protein mass. In conclusion, the used of 1.2% dahlia powder and 1.17% extract dahlia tuber as an inulin source increase protein digestibility and productivity of crossbred local chicken.Key words: inulin, dahlia tuber, crossbred local chicken

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh pemberian suplemen bungkil inti sawit (BIS), tepung daun katuk (KAT), dan kombinasi bungkil inti sawit dan tepung daun katuk (BISKAT) terhadap peningkatan kualitas spermatozoa kambing jantan peranakan Ettawa (PE). Dalam penelitian ini digunakan 20 ekor kambing jantan PE, berumur 1,5 tahun dengan berat badan antara 15 -20 kg dan dibagi atas empat kelompok yakni P0, P1, P2, dan P3 yang masing-masing diberi akuades, BIS 100 g/hari/ekor, kombinasi BIS 100 g/hari/ekor dan KAT 15 g/hari/ekor, dan KAT 15 g/hari/ekor. Pemberian perlakuan dilakukan selama 35 hari. Pada hari ke-36 dilakukan kastrasi dan selanjutnya dilakukan pemeriksaan kualitas spermatozoa yang meliputi motilitas, viabilitas, integritas membran, dan abnormalitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian suplemen kombinasi BISKAT dapat meningkatkan motilitas, viabilitas, integritas membran, dan menurunkan abnormalitas spermatozoa dibanding kelompok kontrol. Disimpulkan bahwa pemberian suplemen kombinasi BISKAT berpotensi meningkatkan kualitas spermatozoa kambing PE.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate administration of Zingiber zerumbet (Z. zerumbet) extracts on performances, carcass characteristics and Echerichia coli (E. coli) bacteria of commercial broiler chickens. One hundred day old CP 707 broiler chickens (mixed sex) were randomly distributed into 20 floor pens with four treatments and five replicates. Each group of broilers was treated with diffrent level of Z. zerumbet extracts in drinking water (P0= control, P1= 0.025 % in drinking water, P2= 0.050 % in drinking water and P3= 0.075 % in drinking water). Broiler chickens were fed commercial diet based on nutrition requirement for starter and grower. Feed and water were provided ad libitum. Body wright of chickens and feed were recorded weekly. All data were recorded to measure for performances, carcass characteristics and the inhibition of E. coli bacteria. The data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA. Statistically differences among treatments were stated with a probablity of P0.05. The results of study indicated that administration of Z. zerumbet extract in drinking water with different concentration up to 4 weeks did not significantly influence (P0.05) on the performances, carcass and giblet characteristics of broiler chickens. The inhibition of E. coli bacteria was significantly affected (P0.05) by inclusion of Z. zerumbet at different concentration. In conclusion, administration of Z. zerumbet in drinking diet had no detrimental effect on animal performance, carcass and giblet characteristics.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of sucrose addition in tris-based egg yolk diluent in maintaining and protecting spermatozoa during preservation. The design of this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of five treatments with ten replications. The treatments were tris-based egg yolk diluent without sucrose (P0, control), tris-based egg yolk diluent with 0.2% sucrose (P1), tris-based egg yolk diluent with 0.3% sucrose (P2), tris-based egg yolk diluent with 0.4% sucrose (P3) and tris-based egg yolk diluent with 0.5% sucrose (P4). The parameters measured were motility, livability, abnormality, intact plasma membrane, and recovery rate. Semen was evaluated 2 times, freshly after being collected and post thawed. The results showed that the increase level of sucrose addition from 0.2% to 0.5% increased the motility value from 43.59% to 48.15%, the livability value from 51.24% to 55.45%, the intact plasma membrane value from 44.66% to 48.21%, the recovery rate value from 54.6% to 60.2 %, and reduce the abnormality value from 13.49%-10.24%. It can be concluded that the addition of 0.2- 0.5% sucrose in tris-based egg yolk diluent could increase motility, livability, intact plasma membrane, recovery rate, and could reduce the abnormalities of Bali cattle spermatozoa during preservation

Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of genetic and environmental factor on locals Madura cattle semen production and quality. A total of 2275 semen collections records from 11 bulls from 2012 to 2014 were analyzed to evaluate the genetic potency of semen productions. Genetic evaluation consists of repeatability estimation of semen volume, sperm concentration and sperm individual motility. Data were analyzed by HGLM (REML) with environmental factors of age, seasons, interval of semen collections, and frequency of ejaculations as fixed effect and bulls as random effect using GENSTAT 16th edition. Result showed that age and ejaculation frequency affect to all variables; interval of semen collections affected to both semen volume and sperm concentrations; while seasons only affected to sperm concentrations. Repeatability estimation of semen volume, sperm concentration and sperm individual motility were 0.376, 0.445 and 0.567 respectively. It was concluded that the quality of Madura bulls ejaculate less affected by environmental factors.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari gambaran ultrasonografi (USG) ovarium kambing kacang setelah penyuntikan hormon prostaglandin. Penelitian ini menggunakan enam ekor kambing kacang berumur 2-3 tahun, pernah melahirkan, dan bersiklus reproduksi normal. Pengamatan ovarium dilakukan dengan menggunakan USG selama 7 hari sebelum penyuntikan hormon prostaglandin sampai dengan ovulasi. Pengamatan ovarium dilakukan setiap hari dan diintensifkan setiap 12 jam menjelang ovulasi. Pengamatan ovarium terdiri atas folikel dan korpus luteum (CL). Pengamatan visualisasi respons berahi dilakukan sebelum dan setelah penyuntikan hormon prostaglandin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ovarium memperlihatkan dinamika folikel dan CL. Dinamika folikel dikarakteristikkan dengan gelombang folikel. Interval antara penyuntikan hormon prostaglandin sampai dengan ovulasi ialah 52,8±6,6 jam dengan nilai rataan diameter folikel ovulasi 5,7±0,7 mm. Visualisasi respons berahi pada kambing kacang tidak bermakna baik sebelum dan setelah penyuntikan hormon prostaglandin.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengidentifikasi molekuler virus-virus influenza yang tidak dapat diidentifikasi dengan primer H5N1 sehingga perlu dilakukan identifikasi lanjutan dengan primer virus influenza lainnya untuk mengetahui jenis subtipe virus influenza yang bersirkulasi di lapang. Sampel yang digunakan adalah lima sampel cairan alantois (Kode B1-B5) yang diduga mengandung virus influenza selain virus H5N1. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah dengan reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) menggunakan beberapa set primer influenza dan konfirmasi dilakukan dengan pengurutan deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Dari hasil analisis RT-PCR dan pengurutan DNA menunjukkan bahwa sampel dengan kode B1 dan B2 menunjukkan homologi tertinggi dengan data virus yang terdaftar di GenBank (NCBI) yaitu dengan virus influenza subtipe H3 sedangkan sampel dengan kode B4 mempunyai homologi tertinggi dengan virus influenza subtipe H10. Dari identifikasi dan karakterisasi tersebut kemungkinan bahwa virus sampel kode B1 (A/Chicken/Buleleng/BBVD488-9/2009) dan (B2) A/Duck/Tabanan/BBVD573-10/2009 adalah virus (AI) subtipe H3 sedangkan sampel kode B4 (A/Chicken/Klungkung/ BBVD006-1/2010) adalah virus AI subtipe H10.

Abstract

 This study aims to measure the level of antibiotic resistance to Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from clinical cats in Bogor. Samples were isolated and identified macroscopically, microscopically, and biochemically. Positive isolates were tested for antibiotic sensitivity using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method. The results showed that Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from sputum and laryngeal swabs of clinic cats in Bogor had experienced Multidrug Resistance (MDR). The highest level of resistance to Klebsiella pneumoniae occurred in the β-lactam group (amphicillin 76%) followed by the tetracycline group (oxytetracycline 72% and tetracycline 68%), then the quinolone group (enrofloxacin 52%), and finally the aminoglycoside group (gentamicin 44%). The results of this study are expected to be taken into consideration in the use of antibiotics for the treatment of cases related to the Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria.
