Abstract

Background: Rapid urbanization and economic growth in Malang City have significantly influenced urban mobility patterns, increasing dependence on private vehicles and reshaping commuting behavior. Understanding the socio-economic determinants of travel behavior is therefore essential for sustainable transport planning in secondary cities in Indonesia. Objective: This study analyzes the relationship between socio-economic factors (such as age, income, education, occupation, gender, household size, and vehicle ownership) and daily travel behavior in Malang City, including trip frequency, trip purpose, and transport mode choice. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied using a structured questionnaire distributed to 200 households selected through non-probability sampling. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and stepwise multiple linear regression to examine the effects of socio-economic variables on different dimensions of travel behavior. Results: Education was the only significant predictor of trip frequency (B = 0.081, p < 0.001; R² = 0.140). For trip purpose, the model demonstrated strong explanatory power (R² = 0.610, F = 50.300, p < 0.001), with occupation (β = 0.706, p < 0.001), education (β = 0.132, p = 0.006), and income (β = −0.107, p = 0.021) identified as significant determinants. However, none of the socio-economic variables significantly influenced transport mode choice (R² = 0.010, p = 0.931), indicating that infrastructure conditions and transport service availability may play a more dominant role in determining mode selection. Conclusion: Socio-economic factors influence travel behavior differently across various dimensions. While these factors significantly affect trip frequency and trip purpose, they do not determine transport mode choice.

Abstract

Background: The gas pipeline leak incident on the Grissik–Duri (GD) KP222 line in Selensen, Kemuning District, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau, on January 2, 2026, caused a technical, social, and operational crisis that had the potential to affect PT Transportasi Gas Indonesia's (TGI) Social License to Operate (SLO). Objective: This study analyzed how TGI's SLO was reconstituted after the incident by comparing the effectiveness of technical mitigation and social resolution and examining their implications for the company's social legitimacy. Methods: Using a qualitative case study design, the analysis drew on twelve publicly available documents published between January and April 2026, comprising national media reports, sectoral energy news coverage, and government releases selected based on their direct relevance to the incident chronology, response, and recovery. Data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, narrative display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility strengthened through source triangulation. Results: TGI managed the technical crisis by closing the safety valves, extinguishing the fire within approximately 13 hours, restoring operations within six days, and completing pipeline integrity testing before restarting operations. Socially, the company and relevant stakeholders conducted victim assistance, community consultations, and compensation processes. However, technical success and procedural settlements have not guaranteed sustainable public trust recovery. Conclusion: TGI's post-incident SLO position remains closer to vulnerable acceptance than approval. This study extends the application of SLO theory to post-incident energy infrastructure management and emphasizes the need to integrate measurable social indicators into oil and gas crisis-management systems to sustain legitimacy and operational continuity.

Abstract

Background: Limited resources and the increasing complexity of service needs pose significant challenges for regional Islamic banks in prioritizing Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system features. PT Bank NTB Syariah faces fragmented customer data management, limited customer behavior analysis, and ongoing regulatory and security compliance demands, necessitating a structured decision-making approach. Objective: This study aims to determine CRM system feature priorities quantitatively and objectively using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Method: The study employed AHP involving five internal expert panelists representing information technology, business, compliance, and service quality functions. Four evaluation criteria were established: (1) business performance improvement, (2) customer relationship management, (3) customer data and information management, and (4) compliance and security. Pairwise comparisons determined criteria and alternative priorities, with consistency ratios calculated to ensure reliability. Result: The AHP analysis revealed that customer data and information management received the highest weight among the evaluation criteria, highlighting the strategic importance of data in Islamic banking digital transformation. At the alternative level, the Customer 360° View feature obtained the highest priority weight (0.2586), followed by Omnichannel Interaction & Complaint Management (0.2307), and AI Chatbot & Digital Assistant (0.1080). All pairwise comparison matrices achieved a Consistency Ratio (CR) value of ≤ 0.10, confirming consistent and reliable judgments. Conclusion: This study provides a structured multi-criteria decision-making framework based on AHP for prioritizing CRM feature implementation in regional Islamic banks. The findings support measurable and strategic resource allocation while enhancing service quality and accelerating digital transformation efforts.

Abstract

Background: This research examined how color and layout influenced user satisfaction with the BTN Mobile banking application. The study responded to recurring user concerns regarding navigation clarity, visual consistency, readability, and transaction flow in mobile banking interfaces. Objective: This study aimed to examine the direct effects of color and layout on user satisfaction with the BTN Mobile banking application, investigate the mediating role of perceived UI/UX quality in these relationships, and identify interface usability problems through heuristic evaluation to provide evidence-based recommendations for interface improvement. Methods: A mixed-methods design was applied by combining heuristic evaluation with quantitative analysis using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Questionnaire data were collected from 136 active BTN Mobile users and analyzed using SmartPLS 4, while expert evaluators examined the interface based on usability heuristics. Results: The quantitative results showed that color had a significant direct effect on user satisfaction (p = 0.027), while layout had a stronger significant direct effect on user satisfaction (p < 0.001). However, perceived UI/UX quality did not significantly mediate the effects of color or layout on user satisfaction. The heuristic findings identified 12 usability problems across three severity levels: 3 critical, 5 major, and 4 minor. These problems included inconsistent visual emphasis, low text-to-background contrast, unclear grouping of menu items, and delayed interaction feedback. Conclusion: This study provided practical recommendations for improving BTN Mobile through more accessible color contrast, a more consistent layout hierarchy, clearer navigation grouping, and iterative usability testing.

Abstract

Background: Vocational education requires students to master practical and industry-relevant skills, particularly in laboratory-based fields such as culinary science and food technology. However, many Indonesian vocational programs still rely on instructor-led demonstrations and provide limited access to structured or digital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which may reduce students’ confidence, independence, and accuracy in operating advanced instruments. Objective: This study aims to identify students’ needs for interactive digital SOPs to support self-directed learning and improve competence in operating laboratory instruments, particularly the Texture Profile Analyzer (TPA) and VolScan Profiler. Methods: A mixed-methods needs assessment was conducted involving 40 culinary students. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and open-ended responses to explore laboratory experience, instrument familiarity, perceived barriers, and preferred learning media. Results: The findings showed 75% of students rarely participated in laboratory activities, and 88% relied entirely on instructor guidance. Only 45% had experience using the TPA, while only 5% had used the VolScan Profiler. In addition, 50% reported the absence of written SOPs. The main barriers were equipment-related technical issues (42%), limited operational knowledge (30%), and unclear instructions (15%). Most students preferred video tutorials (83%), supported by simplified language, contextual explanations, QR code-linked manuals, and digital integration. Conclusion: The study highlights the need to transform static SOPs into interactive, learner-centered digital formats aligned with Outcome-Based Education (OBE), digital literacy development, and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) framework. These findings provide a foundation for developing digital SOPs that improve procedural understanding, independent learning, and laboratory competence among vocational culinary students.

Abstract

Background: Postharvest deterioration of tropical fruits is strongly influenced by respiration activity, which is highly sensitive to storage temperature. However, respiration kinetics data for underutilized fruits, such as namnam (Cynometra cauliflora), remain limited, restricting the development of effective storage strategies. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effects of storage temperature on respiration kinetics and estimate the preliminary shelf life of namnam fruit using kinetic modeling approaches. Method: Namnam fruits were stored at 10°C, 20°C, and 30°C and evaluated using a closed-system CO₂ absorption method with triplicate measurements. Respiration rates were analyzed using linear regression, the Arrhenius model, Q10 temperature coefficients, and a zero-order degradation model for shelf-life estimation. Result: Respiration rates increased with increasing temperature, showing a strong linear relationship (R² = 0.9984). Arrhenius analysis yielded an apparent activation energy of 27.3 kJ mol⁻¹ with a moderate model fit (R² = 0.6682). Q10 values ranged from 1.45 to 1.68, indicating moderate temperature sensitivity. The estimated shelf life decreased from 13.46 days at 10°C to 9.06 days at 20°C and 6.26 days at 30°C. Conclusion: Lower storage temperatures effectively reduced respiratory activity and extended shelf life; however, respiration-based estimates should be validated using direct quality parameters before commercial application.

Abstract

Background: The increasing degradation of urban surface water quality due to suspended solids, dissolved metals, and anthropogenic activities has driven the demand for simple, cost-effective, and sustainable water treatment technologies. Methods: This study evaluated a Basic Water Purification System (BWPS) during its start-up phase, examining water quality changes associated with the stabilization of newly installed filtration media. Surface water from a retention pond was treated using a multi-media filtration system consisting of zeolite, silica sand, activated carbon, anthracite, manganese sand, and ion exchange resin across three configurations. Temperature, total dissolved solids (TDS), turbidity, color, pH, nitrate, nitrite, Fe, and Mn concentrations were assessed at three sampling points. Results: TDS, turbidity, color, Fe, and Mn concentrations increased after filtration, resulting in negative removal efficiencies attributable to initial leaching from the newly installed media. However, TDS, Fe, and Mn concentrations consistently declined from the first to the third sampling point, indicating progressive media stabilization. Media 2 demonstrated the most consistent performance, maintaining a near-neutral pH range (6.3–7.2) and the lowest TDS levels, while Media 3 achieved the highest Fe removal efficiency (13.53%). Correlation analysis revealed strong positive relationships between TDS and dissolved metal concentrations, as well as between turbidity and color, confirming that these fluctuations were associated with media conditioning rather than inadequate treatment performance. Conclusion: These findings confirm that the Basic Water Purification System (BWPS) is a promising low-cost, decentralized option for urban surface water treatment, provided that an adequate media conditioning period is implemented before full-scale operation.

Abstract

Background: River flow characteristics play a crucial role in controlling erosion processes, especially in river segments adjacent to infrastructure. The Noelmina River at Km 62.3 Timor Raya Road experiences repeated bank erosion that threatens road stability and nearby public facilities. Objective: This study aims to analyze flow velocity, determine flow characteristics using the Froude and Reynolds numbers, and recommend appropriate riverbank protection structures to reduce erosion risk. Methods: A quantitative field survey was conducted at three observation points (upstream, bend, and downstream). Flow velocity was measured using a current meter at different depth intervals. Hydraulic characteristics were analyzed using average velocity calculations, the Froude number for flow regime classification, and the Reynolds number for flow-type determination. Results: The average flow velocities were 2.298 m/s (Point 1), 1.686 m/s (Point 2), and 1.062 m/s (Point 3), showing a decreasing trend along the river segment. All Froude numbers were below 1, indicating subcritical flow conditions. Reynolds number analysis showed transitional flow at Points 1 and 2, and laminar flow at Point 3. Higher velocities at the river bend indicate greater erosion potential. Conclusion: The river exhibits subcritical flow with varying transitional and laminar characteristics. Recommended mitigation measures include gabions, interlocking concrete blocks, retaining walls, and weirs to reduce flow energy and prevent further bank erosion.

Abstract

Background: Economic security is a critical determinant that shapes the socioeconomic resilience of disaster-affected populations, particularly those rendered vulnerable by prolonged economic instability. Objective: This study aims to analyze the role of economic security on resource management factors in southwestern region of Bangladesh. Methods: This study employed Spearman’s rank correlation analysis to examine the relationship between disaster-resilient community conditions and sustainable economic security factors among 200 systematically sampled households in the southwestern region of Bangladesh. Results: The study examined seven sustainable economic security indicators and their correlations with eight disaster-resilient community status variables. Sustainable agricultural practices showed the strongest positive correlation with adaptation capacity (r = 0.845, p < 0.001), while monthly income exhibited a strong negative correlation with informal loan dependency (r = -0.987, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Sustainable agricultural practices, governmental assistance, and housing construction are significantly correlated with enhanced disaster resilience. Income stability reduces dependency on formal and informal loans. Integrated policy frameworks addressing economic security and disaster preparedness are essential for vulnerable coastal communities.

Abstract

Background: The pulp and paper industry is capital-intensive and operates continuously, making equipment availability a critical determinant of corporate performance. Preventive maintenance is often regarded merely as a cost center, despite its significant potential as a strategic value-creating activity. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of preventive maintenance on the financial performance of PT Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper Serang Mill through the serial mediation of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and paper machine productivity, offering a novel chain-mediation framework that connects maintenance activities to corporate financial outcomes. Methods: A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS, based on data from 120 internal respondents collected through a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire and triangulated with company operational and financial data. Results: All six hypotheses are statistically supported. Preventive maintenance positively affects OEE (β = 0.570); OEE affects productivity (β = 0.601); and productivity affects financial performance (β = 0.514). Serial mediation is confirmed: OEE mediates preventive maintenance → productivity, while productivity mediates OEE → financial performance. Full serial mediation yields an indirect effect of 0.176. Conclusion: These findings confirm a complete value-creation chain through a novel serial mediation model (preventive maintenance → OEE → productivity → financial performance), extending maintenance management theory by repositioning preventive maintenance as a strategic mechanism for sustainable corporate value creation in capital-intensive manufacturing industries.
