Abstract

Background: Bamboo-based composites have attracted attention as sustainable alternatives to conventional structural materials in civil engineering. However, their broader application is often limited by relatively low mechanical performance, weak interfacial bonding between fiber and matrix, and vulnerability to structural failure under loading conditions. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the mechanical performance and structural behavior of bamboo-based hybrid composites modified with carbon filler and graphene oxide (GO) to enhance strength, improve interfacial bonding, and reduce the risk of structural failure. Methods: An experimental and numerical approach was employed. Three composite configurations were fabricated and tested (n = 3 specimens per configuration): unfilled bamboo–epoxy (control), carbon-reinforced, and GO-modified composite. Mechanical properties were evaluated through tensile (ASTM D3039) and Charpy impact tests. Finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS Workbench validated experimental findings by comparing stress distribution, strain behavior, and total deformation under a 1000 kN axial tensile load, showing strong agreement (R² up to 0.779). Results: The results show that both carbon filler and GO significantly improve the mechanical properties of bamboo composites. The GO-modified composite exhibited the highest tensile strength and elastic modulus, along with enhanced crack resistance due to improved fiber–matrix adhesion and inhibition of crack propagation. FEA simulations support the experimental findings, demonstrating that GO-modified composites display more uniform stress distribution, lower strain concentration, and reduced deformation compared with the other configurations. Conclusion: GO-reinforced bamboo hybrid composites demonstrate superior mechanical performance and structural stability, indicating strong potential for mitigating structural failure risks.

Abstract

Background: As an archipelagic nation, Indonesia faces complex logistics challenges, including limited connectivity, infrastructure disparities, and high inter regional distribution costs. In response, the government and industry stakeholders have adopted various global best practices in digital logistics transformation, yet their implementation often fails to produce the expected outcomes. Objective: This study analyses the effect of National Logistics Ecosystem (NLE) policy implementation on logistics service performance, with digitalization, digital ecosystem maturity, and openness to global best practices as moderating variables, and explains why openness to global best practices does not strengthen that effect. Methods: The study employed a mixed-methods approach with an explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data from 388 respondents were analyzed using SmartPLS 4 and NVivo 14. Results: NLE policy implementation positively and significantly affects logistics service performance, and this effect is strengthened by digitalization and digital ecosystem maturity. In contrast, openness to global best practices neither moderates the relationship nor exerts a significant direct effect on performance. Qualitative analysis attributes this dual null result to Institutional Decoupling, whereby international standards are formally adopted without operational internalization, driven by inter agency sectoral fragmentation and pronounced infrastructure disparities between western and eastern Indonesia, and compounded by uneven digital literacy and conservative organizational cultures. Conclusion: These findings indicate that, absent foundational domestic harmonization, international standards remain ceremonial and lose operational relevance. A sequenced, domestic first approach is therefore required, one that couples regulatory measures to dismantle sectoral silos with investment in digital literacy and human resource capacity.

Abstract

Background: Agriculture 4.0 is reshaping farming worldwide, yet Indonesian farmer groups remain constrained by uneven digital competency. National census data show that 53.16 percent of the 28.19 million farmers in Indonesia still work without modern machinery or digital technology. Objective: This study measures the digital competency level of farmer group members, ranks their priority training needs by domain, and tests the individual factors that shape those needs. Methods: A cross sectional survey covered 210 members of 21 farmer groups in Indramayu, Subang, and Karawang, West Java, drawn by stratified random sampling. The instrument was adapted from DigComp 2.1 and validated by five experts. Analysis was run in SPSS 26 using descriptive statistics, gap analysis, the Training Priority Index, Importance-Performance Analysis, and multiple linear regression after classical assumption testing. Results: Mean current competency reached 56.4 of 100 against a required standard of 80.0, a gap of 23.6 points. The widest gaps were digital agricultural applications (29.4), digital marketing (27.1), and precision farming technology (25.8). Education level (β = 0.412), digital infrastructure access (β = 0.376), and age (β = −0.318) significantly predicted competency and explained 42.8 percent of its variance. Conclusion: Training for farmer groups should be differentiated rather than uniform, pairing foundational digital literacy for older and less educated members with advanced application and marketing modules for younger members who can act as digital champions. Extension agencies can use the Training Priority Index reported here to sequence modules and to schedule training alongside rural connectivity investment.

Abstract

Background: The transition toward low-carbon transportation and the growing commitment to achieving Net Zero Emissions (NZE) have increased the importance of electric vehicle adoption in Indonesia. In Bandung City, however, the spatial distribution of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) remains concentrated in central urban areas, creating disparities in service coverage across different districts. Objective: This study aims to identify priority areas for EVCS development in Bandung City by integrating spatial and multi-criteria analyses. Methods: A quantitative GIS-based approach was employed by combining spatial distribution analysis, buffer analysis (3 km and 5 km), accessibility assessment, service gap analysis, and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP weights were obtained from pairwise comparisons by eight experts from PLN, the Bandung City Transportation Agency, urban planning practitioners, and academics, aggregated using the geometric mean. Results: The findings reveal that EVCS facilities are concentrated in the city center, with 32 of 64 units (50.00%) located in central districts and 11 units (17.19%) along the Soekarno-Hatta corridor. AHP weighting produced population density 0.40, accessibility 0.30, distance from existing EVCS 0.20, and proximity to activity centers 0.10, with a Consistency Ratio of 0.08. Weighted overlay yielded the highest suitability scores for Gedebage (4.72) and Cibiru (4.58), followed by Rancasari (4.41), Arcamanik (4.27), and Cinambo (4.15). Conclusion: The GIS-AHP framework translates spatial inequity into a ranked development priority list, giving PLN, local government, and infrastructure investors an evidence-based instrument for allocating charging capacity equitably and for embedding service-equity criteria into sustainable transportation and energy transition policy.

Abstract

Background: The maritime sector is highly dependent on technological infrastructure, including port management systems, ship monitoring systems, and satellite-based communication systems. This infrastructure is crucial for ensuring the smooth flow of goods between countries and maintaining port operations and safe ship navigation. Objective: This study identifies cyberattack pathways targeting shipboard navigation and operational technology (OT) systems in Indonesian waters, develops attack-tree scenarios for those pathways, and evaluates ship captains' readiness to detect and respond to them. Methods: Attack-tree modeling was used to describe, analyze, and represent potential attack scenarios. The model draws on a literature review and interviews with twelve maritime experts: four captains and deck officers, four cybersecurity specialists, and four technical consultants. Validation was conducted through two Delphi rounds until an agreement level of 80% was reached. Results: Four attack trees produced eighteen validated attack paths across three primary attack goals: crashing the ship (five paths), sinking the ship (three paths), and disabling the ship (six paths), along with four shared enabling paths. Experts rated the attack scenarios for crashing and disabling the ship as highly feasible, whereas sinking the ship was considered unlikely. Overall, nine attack paths were classified as high risk. Conclusion: The attack tree serves not only as a vulnerability assessment tool but also as a structured, prioritized risk assessment instrument for maritime cybersecurity. Abstract

Background: Despite the growing adoption of hybrid contract models in construction, energy, and agricultural procurement, there remains a significant gap in understanding how lump-sum and unit-price contracts differentially allocate risk across sectors and country contexts. This study addresses this gap by examining risk mitigation strategies through document analysis and thematic synthesis. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify key risk allocation strategies, contractual mechanisms, and the effectiveness of hybrid models in managing uncertainty across developed and developing country contexts. Methods: A qualitative approach based on thematic analysis and cross-case comparison was applied, drawing on 48 peer-reviewed sources published between 2015 and 2025, alongside relevant sector documents and procurement reports. Results: The analysis identified that hybrid contracts reduced cost overrun variability by incorporating performance-based incentives aligned with Expected Utility Theory and Principal-Agent Theory, while developing economies such as Indonesia and Bangladesh exhibited distinct risk profiles requiring adaptive contract mechanisms. However, significant gaps remain, particularly regarding the empirical validation of blockchain-enabled contract enforcement and AI-driven risk prediction, as well as the underrepresentation of developing economy contexts in existing research. Conclusion: The findings carry both scientific and practical implications. Theoretically, this study advances an integrative multi-theory framework combining Expected Utility Theory, Game Theory, and Principal-Agent Theory to analyse contract risk across diverse contexts. Practically, the results provide evidence-based guidance for procurement professionals and policymakers in selecting and designing contract structures that balance cost certainty with adaptive flexibility.

Abstract

Background: Digital transformation has increased the strategic importance of application portfolios as key enablers of organizational performance; however, many organizations continue to operate legacy and redundant applications, which reduce efficiency and increase operational and maintenance costs. Objective: This study examines application portfolio optimization in an Indonesian telecommunications company by applying Enterprise Architecture principles through Application Portfolio Management (APM). Methods: APM employs the TIME (Tolerate, Invest, Migrate, Eliminate) Analysis framework. A case study methodology was adopted by combining stakeholder interviews, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), direct observations, and architectural repository data covering 553 enterprise applications. Each application was assessed based on Business Value and Technical Value using a four-point Likert scale. Results: TIME Analysis revealed that 269 applications were positioned in the Invest quadrant, reflecting strong business relevance and satisfactory technical conditions, while 85 applications were categorized under Eliminate, indicating significant potential for application rationalization. The analysis classified 269 applications (48.6%) as Invest, 125 applications (22.6%) as Tolerate, 73 applications (13.2%) as Migrate, and 85 applications (15.4%) as Eliminate, resulting in a Portfolio Health Index of 71.2%. Conclusion: These findings confirm that TIME Analysis, operationalized through an Enterprise Architecture repository, provides an objective and data-driven basis for application portfolio decision-making, extends the Application Portfolio Management literature by linking architecture repositories with portfolio rationalization, and strengthens Business–IT alignment in telecommunications organizations.

Abstract

Background: Digital transformation in vaccine manufacturing requires advanced technologies and competent personnel capable of operating within highly regulated environments. Existing digital competency frameworks remain broad and insufficiently address critical areas, including data integrity, computerized system validation, electronic quality management processes, operational technology, and regulatory compliance. Objective: This study developed a Digital Competency Framework and defined proficiency levels for vaccine manufacturing personnel using PT XYZ as a single organizational case study. Methods: The Design Science Research Methodology and a qualitative descriptive approach were employed. Data were obtained from literature reviews, regulatory and organizational documents, observations, semi-structured interviews with six purposively selected informants, and validation conducted by two domain experts. Results: The study identified 18 digital competencies organized into five proficiency levels, ranging from digital awareness to digital initiative and transformation. These competencies were categorized into three pillars: data, system governance, and compliance; digital manufacturing and quality systems; and operational technology and advanced digital capabilities. Expert validation confirmed adequate coverage, logical progression, and observable competency descriptions. The framework supports role-based competency mapping, targeted training programs, and workforce planning. Conclusion: The framework provides a context-sensitive and proficiency-based reference for competency mapping, gap analysis, and workforce development. It contributes to advancing Pharma 4.0 while maintaining GxP compliance. However, the findings are analytically transferable rather than statistically generalizable, reflecting the limitations of a single organizational case study.

Abstract

Background: The Fresh Water Generator (FWG) is a critical shipboard system that produces potable and technical fresh water from seawater via vacuum evaporation, utilizing waste heat from the main engine jacket cooling water circuit.  The FWG is susceptible to operational disruptions including heat exchanger fouling, mineral scaling, vacuum system failures, thermal efficiency reduction, and salinity monitoring errors. Objective: This study investigates these operational challenges and the maintenance strategies employed to address them, based on the direct professional experience of marine engineers employed by Anthony Veder Rederijzaken, a Rotterdam-based LNG shipping company. Methods: A qualitative case study methodology was adopted, using semi-structured interviews with five marine engineers at the rank of Second and Third Engineer. Five respondents were sufficient because thematic data saturation was reached, with no new themes emerging from the final interviews. Interview data were analyzed manually through thematic analysis, supported by technical document review and structured literature comparison. Results: Five operational challenge themes were identified: biofouling and physical fouling of plate heat exchangers; mineral scaling from calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide precipitation; vacuum system degradation from air ingress; reduced thermal efficiency under variable engine load; and salinity monitoring system failures. Corresponding maintenance strategies include scheduled chemical descaling, vacuum integrity checks, routine performance monitoring, pump and ejector overhauls, and weekly salinometer calibration. These findings contribute a practitioner-grounded, route-adaptive framework for condition-based maintenance practice. Conclusion:  The findings offer evidence-based recommendations that advance maintenance management in maritime engineering and provide empirical material for strengthening maritime education curricula.

Abstract

Background: Remote islands in Indonesia continue to experience limited access to reliable electricity due to geographical isolation and the lack of grid infrastructure. Batun Island in East Belitung Regency currently depends on diesel generators, resulting in high operational costs, fuel transportation challenges, and environmental concerns. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and determine the optimal configuration of a standalone Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to meet household electricity demand. Methods: A quantitative approach was employed by integrating HOMER Pro techno-ecoomic simulation with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) for multi-criteria decision-making. Four alternative PV–BESS configurations were evaluated based on technical, economic, environmental, regulatory, socio-cultural, and risk criteria. Results: The simulation results showed that all configurations were technically capable of supplying the estimated daily electricity demand of 89.99 kWh with a 100% renewable energy contribution. Among the evaluated alternatives, the 50 kWp PV and 200 kWh BESS configuration achieved the highest preference score of 0.889, with an AHP consistency ratio of 0.070, indicating reliable decision-making. This configuration also achieved the lowest NPC (USD 158,577) and LCOE (USD 0.37/kWh). Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that integrating HOMER Pro and AHP provides a comprehensive framework for optimizing standalone renewable energy systems and supports sustainable rural electrification planning for isolated islands in Indonesia.
